after watching a dozen of your videos about layers, I memorized the steps and gave it a try last night after so many bad experiences with hairstylists (I live in a small town) . It was a big success ! I have my confidence back ! BIG thanks to YOU !
This has to be the best DIY cut on youtube. No ponytails lol, no guesswork, checking as you go, clearly explained. I'm doing this on my own hair for sure. Thank you so much
This is honestly the best video I have ever watched on cutting your own hair. I have been cutting my hair since 2008 with lots of mess ups along the way, but ultimately this exact cut is what I look best with. My right side is thicker in the back side and left side is thinner and sparser at side back and I appreciate seeing how you cut your finer side and thicker side. This is truly so valuable to show and explain how you do this to yourself. Thank you!
So sweet of you to say!! I'm glad this video was able to help you, it can be very frustrating the difference in thickness! Thank you so much for watching!
Yes! Kinda funny my thinner side is on the left side 😂 Also have had some messed up times.. luckily I have curly and lots of hair my messes don't show much😂😂
I have the same type of hair and hairstylists always cut too much no matter what I say or what pictures I show them… The last time was catastrophic, I paid a lot of money for the worst hairstyle ever, so I was incredibly angry with myself, and I made the choice to never again go to a stylist. It’s a shame of course because I see so many competent hairstylists on RUclips, but I can’t seem to find them in my life. Honestly fine hair is not that difficult to cut and there are so many good tutorials. Cutting my own hair was a bit confusing the first time, but I was very careful and nothing bad happed. The second time was better and the third time I actually knew what I was doing. The best thing is that each time I learn and get better so it’s satisfying. I have watched many of your classic videos and they were great and this one is even more helpful. Thank for your time and effort, you are making us all more knowledgeable and skilful.
So happy that I can be helpful to you!! Fine hair is easy to cut, as long as the stylist listens! I'm sorry you have had such a bad experiences in hair salons. There are a lot of good stylists out there, sadly just can be harder to find than it should be. Thanks for watching!
I recently had a cut an experienced the very same thing !! I attempted to show her highlights of summers video as a guide an to show her what I wanted, she seemed bored an was busy throwing the date over me...then proceeded to dry cut my hair, using the scissors like a razor, sliding down my bangs an sides....I was so ticked !!!
I always cut my own hair - I have turned it into a career as so many people are frustrated the same as you and when I tell people I cut my hair own hair they ask me to cut their hair....
I have watched dozens of these videos looking for a instructions for cutting my own hair. This tutorial is the best one on RUclips. The clarity of instruction is amazing. Thank you very much for posting.
Fantastic Haircut Tutorial! **** Many thanks Summer for sharing this great video. Your detailed instructions and insightful tips have been an absolute lifesaver for me. For months, I have been struggling to correct some unfortunate DIY haircut mistakes, and finding your video was like stumbling upon a hidden treasure. This is not perfect, but I can now go out without feeling ashamed, grow my hair out and seek the help of a professional stylist without fear of ridicule.
Let me start by saying it took me like 5 times to watch your videos and have the courage to do this cut since my hair is curly. But let me tell you, this has been the best haircut I've done to my self. I'm so in love with my curls and the volume. You are a great teacher, Thank you! ❤😊
I agree you really clear on how to hold fingers and comb, It's funny my hair is the same way as the instructor hair,so I am feeling as though I can cut my hair now.
Yes it's one of the best tutorial for cutting your own hair! It's nicer and more challenging to watch a haircut on a real parsons hair , especially if that person is yourself. Thank you !
What a fantastic video. You were amazing and so patient in the delivery of your content. Like you, I also struggle with thin hair and fining a hairdresser who understands my needs can be frustrating at times. If only you lived closer!!! ❤️❤️ As for products you recommend and how to use them, I’ve pretty much been using the same ones except the morrocon oil brand. I mean I’ve been a fan of Thor hairspray and oil,but never tried the shampoo and conditioner. So, there will soon be a shopping spree for me,lol. Thanks for sharing your expertise. I’m so happy to have found you here on RUclips. I’m never disappointed with your videos 😊
Summer, you are an angel! I have tried so many face framing tutorials, but they always turned out so bad. I tried just the face framing part of this, and only your tutorial gave me such a flawless, lively, gorgeous result for my fine hair! Thank you so much!
Summer, I did this today and it turned out beautifully! This is the best layering technique that my hair has ever experienced either from myself or at the salon! I so appreciate you, Summer. Thank you so much! 🥰
Thks so much for this tutorial! I’m kinda relieved that I’m not the only one with one side of my hair thinning. Thks for your tips and easy to follow along teaching!! 🙌🏻😁
Thanks for this channel and all your hard work! After letting myself go a bit I finally feel I am back on track. I relax my own hair at home, and thanks to your videos I was able to cut my hair in a style today and it looks great and you have saved me so much money! You have the best videos so glad I stumbled across your channel!
That looks amazing. I cut my own hair too so I appreciate how frustrating and difficult it can be (meanwhile I would never let anyone else do it after all these years LOL). It's so different to cutting other people's that hair we have to learn and experiment over time. You have clearly mastered it. Please do another big volume velcro roller blowout video with your new cut and layers! 🙂
Summer, Excellent tutorial! Thank you for continuing to share your talent! I've had this cut before, and have been thinking about it for the summer of 2023 🙂
Hi Summer. This is such a good tutorial - thank you! I like how you checked that everything is aligned by bringing pieces forward. This is such a useful tip!
Your videos are the best! They are the clearest, the easiest to follow that i have found so far! I haven't decided which one im going to do to my hair, bit im confident ill do a good job following you!
Yes! Great job 👏🏽 I've been cutting my own hair for a while & I love to see a professional DIY haircut. Don't feel like a weirdo anymore for cutting my own hair 😂😂😅. Thank you so much for this tutorial 🎉
Thank you, I have been cutting my own hair for years and you have given me several new tricks and techniques to try. I appreciate your skill and artistry. God bless you
Hi Summer, I just subscribed like yesterday. I saw your video on the one with the side part. I part my hair on the side, so it was very helpful. I am still coming out of 3 horrible salon cuts, one after another, since 2020 and I don't want anyone to touch my hair. So, in the meantime, I have been cutting it myself, but I am not a stylist, so I have made my own mistakes. One right now is the disconnect in perimeter on the sides going to the back. It's slightly off, but I need length, so am just dealing with it....wanting so bad to cut it but worry I will mess up. My face framing is pretty good, but my right side lays differently than the left and so I keep messing with the face framing trying to make it look better and I keep telling myself "Leave it alone, let it grow, quit cutting your hair every week trying to even it out". I do think however it does not look horrible in the grand scheme of it all....and that I am learning. But I am also older than you so time is not on my side. I will say though that there are more awful stylists out there than good. It is an art, and many do not know what they are doing. I have severe ptsd from the last 3 years of bad cuts. I trust no one and maybe one day I will get the courage to go back but for now I am taking on the challenge to do it myself. Thanks for your videos..They help a lot .
have same problem with one side thinner than the other. I also have one side along the base of the back of the neck that the hairline is a bit lower than the other side so it will hang longer and need trimmed more than the other side or the length will be off on that side. love your hair so much. It's beautiful and looks fantastic on you; love the color highlight too. thank you!
Thank you so much for this video!!! You did such a fantastic job with the sections,,points, and the angles of your fingers. It was all there. Thank you!
You are a amazing teacher. Very informative and very thorough. I’m going to try this myself. I have a hair stylist who does my color which she is awesome with. But I have taken pictures of a cut that I want and she never even comes close!! Lol she cuts the same way every time. Hahahahaha Im just amazed!! Lol So I will cut it myself.
WOW, I love, this video & your style of cutting. My hair grows so fast & long so quick. I love trying to cut & trim my own hair. This is going to be so helpful for me to be able to get it "right", hopefully...lol, I can't thank you enough for sharing. I was so excited about the video, I didn't watch it to the end AND I didn't stop to think that my arms may not be long enough to do my own hair...Many thx and God Bless.
Hi Summer! I LOVE watching all your hair cutting videos & have enjoyed using your techniques on my own clients! I was in need of a cut so when I saw this video I had to try it out on myself & it came out so cute !! Thanks so much for your videos ❤
I love how detailed you are but it is very intimidating and complicated but I wanna learn this and try for myself. Thank you for teaching us and GOD bless.
I really am enjoying this self-hair cut, but I wonder what you would suggest for those of us with thicker and heavier hair, that needs a bit more layering. TIA
The best..most amazing DIY haircut!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Going to try this… After doing that “rubber band butterfly fiasco” .. the fiasco was all mine..I owned the disaster..Lol! … I can see where this will help make things MUCH neater and better ❤ Thank you! 😊
😂I’m so glad your professional eyes saw the lil corner on perimeter. I’m 6 years retired 34 years behind my chair. I miss it . Time is spinning ‘round and ‘round too fast
😂 I'm so neurotic when it comes my haircut! I could care less about how my color grabs but my cut.....I'm always nipping at it 🤣 . The girls I work with always say their nervous to cut my hair because I'm so particular!
Summer, I'm happy to tune in for today's video and I am soooo trying this on some of my friends who have fine hair and your volume tips honestly work like a charm and I'm at my beginning phase of my stylist career and boy am I excited to Sonic Speed my way into the beauty industry 🙃😎🤓
Great tutorial on cutting your own hair. I used to do the upside down hair cut, but seeing this I decided to try it. Especially all the separations that make it easier to see with better results. My hair is thicker on the one side, but I believe it's because I part it on that side. That's were my natural part lies. I always have to make adjustments to assure they look the same. One side curls in-ward as the other side wants to flip. But styling makes a difference with a round bush. I also have bangs that I have to feather in on the sides so it merges with the rest of the hair. Do you have any of those videos? Thanks in advance.
Thank you so much for this tutorial Summer! Does this technique work for a side parting too? How should it be adapted for a side parting? A central parting just doesn't suit me sadly
Ditto on best tutorial for cutting your own hair! I totally get the passion you have for your profession, that comes through in EVERY video. I am not a professional, just a lover of having great hair days, ha ha. Question, do you have tips to help avoid snipping the flesh on your fingers??
Thank for watching Rochelle and such a sweet comment 🥰. I still nip my fingers! When I got my shears a few months ago, I basically cut off my knuckle 🤣. Take your time!
Hi :) My mom is a hair stylist, an absolutely amazing professional, and all my life I've only had my hair cut by her. I'm afraid to go to someone else because I almost never see any good haircuts on the women around me. I only hear disappointed reviews from people who go elsewhere. Since we are living in different countries, I get my haircuts once a year or once every two years, and I've taught my husband to trim my ends. But after watching your videos, I'm seriously considering trying to add some lost volume to my hair myself. Thank you for your amazing videos ❤
I can see my fingers as bloody stumps given by the scissors points but I'm truly going to give this a shot! It looks so easy & your hair is just gorgeous! 🤩 thanks for sharing!
@7:42 ⬅️click it I just did Brad Mondo's butterfly cut at home (8inches & I have a video but not public) I'm really happy to have this tut so I can blend it & get it really REALLY "Matchy"! Lol but for real 😅
A very good tutorial, good to have for when it was during Covid and everything was closed...thanks Summer.I think I'm lucky to live where a haircut costs between $5 and $15 max, and you don't need an appointment although you can if you want to, and the hairdressers are really gifted ones (99% men don't know if this influences the results?). Same for mani-pedi jobs, I paid $30 for a manu-pedi with gel otherwise it's around $20. I'm gonna save this tutorial for emergency times. Thanks again.
I have the same problem more hair on my right side then my left and I always feel lopsided 🤣. Thank you so much for this tutorial! So happy I found this channel! And your hair looks AMAZING 🤩
I have the style as you, been trimming my own hair for three years, I have a fringe is the only difference, my front layers start three inches below my chin, watching you I wonder if my face framing should be shorter.
That look really nice on you. I would like to know if you have video of how to cut your old haircut, the one you had at the beginning of the video. I would like to have a haircut like that. I love it!
My last 2 haircuts were the worst I ever had. My layers weren’t blended causing short layers and a major disconnect with my long layers. I will be cutting my own hair from now on. Ty for the great video.
Love that I just found you. You explain everything so well. My hair is fine, but thick. I have long hair with some layers. I can't easily come through my hair with a comb like you do. It gets too tangled, even using a lot of cream rinse. Plus it seems a lot of hair comes out. What shampoo and conditioner do you suggest? I have minimal highlights. Thank-you
Nice job. I have been cutting my own hair since 1977. Of course I get pro cuts sometimes, but in my region the schools turn out crappy cutters. 20 years ago have I spent $40 on a cut only to have 1 side 1/2 inch shorter than the other. Now I go to super cuts type places and rework my sides. I am from Los Angeles originally and I miss the precision cuts they gave there. Do not know if their people are as good as in the 70's and 80's by Sassoon and Paul Mitchell. Again Summer very nice job. I love your color. Looks like you have a little natural strawberry tones, pretty.
I personally am not a huge fan of Redken guts, I know a lot of people love it but for me it's just never been my go-to. If you have never tried the Moroccan oil one it's worth it to give it a try!
Hi Summer i love your channel, i cant stop watching but i would like to know do you have any suggestion for a haircut to medium long length for fine thin post-partum hair 🫢🫢🫢 i need help
Summer, I just recently came across your site and I am so grateful for all the knowledge you have provided. What would you tools would you recommend for a person who wants to be able to cut her own hair & is not a professional?❤❤
Hi Summer. Hope you are doing well. I'm really enjoying your content. Although I'm not a stylest, you provide me with the "ammo" for my next appointment. I too was graced with fine thin hair. Do you have any suggestions for a product that would provide both hold & volume. On the days when I do curl my hair, I've been unable to find a product that will hold the curls for longer than a few hours. Have a great weekend!
Thank you for watching and great question! I like IGKs Bouncy Blowout Cream it has a bit more hold to it. Kenra's Perfect Blowout Styling Creme and a Moroccan Oils Styling Gel are great options to add to your volume products that I find to help my curls stay! I usually will do a light mist of hairspray on each section too when curling to help!
Thank you so much it’s a DIY haircut perfection !!! It can be done on longer or shorter hair ! The perfect haircut for me .♥️ and Professional looking. I cut my hair for years now but this technique will improve my results ♥️😻♥️ kisss from France
I have seen covid hair loss amongst some clients. They don't always work for everyone but scalp serums or sprays can work great, but you have to use them every single day and some twice a day. I personally love Nioxin Minoxidil. If you want something more natural based, Kerotin has some lovely options as well!
Great instructions. Thank you. 🙂 I want to try this but my hair is on the wavy/curler side, and it’s a lot longer. Plus, I’ve also been wearing it a lot more natural these days. Trying to get my natural curl pattern back from years of straightening and coloring my hair. I wonder if this would be a good cut for someone doing the CGM? Would you recommend? Or, has anyone else with longer, curler hair, tried this cut at home? I’m also a little confused with the fingers placement. This technique looks like it might be the best for my hair. Since my hair is also on the finer side, and could desperately use some movement right now. 😕 However, I’ve been watching a few other DIY videos, and some hairdressers (with longer hair though) say to position the fingers and incline the hair (layered sections) differently. So I’m all types of nervous now, and afraid that since my hair is on the longer side that’s I’ll mess up and end up butchering it. Which would then completely defeat the purpose of me cutting my own hair in the first place. Since that’s the reason why I no longer want to get my hair professionally cut for anymore. 🤦🏻♀️ Thanks again for your help. ❤ Sorry for the longest comment EVER.
It's perfect...leave it please.. I love it..I had so many hairdressers. Not 1 has taken that time to cut mine.. Come to Australia..lol Thank you great channel..💖🇦🇺
It turned out very nice. My hair is just as thin, just longer. It's not developed for me yet. Where can I see a similar cutting technique for graduated front bangs? Thank you (-Faceboc where can I find you? Thank you)😇
Your hair is absolutely gorgeous. What do you use? I know you listed the products below but like shampoo and conditioner and all that on every day basis and is your hair thick it’s gorgeous. Please let me know. Thank you.
I love your haircut in this video!!! I remember watching a video collab with you and Gabby where you said you live in Florida? I would love to get this cut by you however, I live in California :( :( What would I need to ask for if I wanted this cut?
I am in Florida! This is basically a version of the butterfly haircut! It's medium to shorter layers but with a softened face frame, is how I would describe it to a client if that helps.
after watching a dozen of your videos about layers, I memorized the steps and gave it a try last night after so many bad experiences with hairstylists (I live in a small town) . It was a big success ! I have my confidence back ! BIG thanks to YOU !
Oh I'm so happy to hear this! Glad I could help, bet your hair looks fab!
This has to be the best DIY cut on youtube. No ponytails lol, no guesswork, checking as you go, clearly explained. I'm doing this on my own hair for sure. Thank you so much
Yay! Thank you!
Año a
how did it go?
@@annawvw it was hard the first time, but I've done it twice now and the second time was much easier. Its worth trying for sure
I love that you’re showing us this on your own hair..Thank you for sharing.
This is honestly the best video I have ever watched on cutting your own hair. So sweet of you to say!! I'm glad this video was able to help you, it can be very frustrating the difference in thickness! Thank you so much for watching!
firstly, you’re adorable
secondly you are a great teacher 😊
Summer is the best in all her videos
Yes! Kinda funny my thinner side is on the left side 😂
Also have had some messed up times.. luckily I have curly and lots of hair my messes don't show much😂😂

I have same issue! And started to do myself, even it not so perfect I still happy because it free and I learned how to do just my way!

I totally agree with you 😊
I always cut my own hair - I have turned it into a career as so many people are frustrated the same as you and when I tell people I cut my hair own hair they ask me to cut their hair....
I have watched dozens of these videos looking for a instructions for cutting my own hair. This tutorial is the best one on RUclips. The clarity of instruction is amazing. Thank you very much for posting.
I’m in awe on how pretty your cut is and how the face framing really brings out the beauty in your face. You are stunning. ❤
Fantastic Haircut Tutorial! **** Many thanks Summer for sharing this great video. Your detailed instructions and insightful tips have been an absolute lifesaver for me. I always cut the very bottom layer straight across...which made a 'V' in the very back center. This really helped with that issue. Thank you.
Yes it's one of the best tutorial for cutting your own hair! It's nicer and more challenging to watch a haircut on a real parsons hair , especially if that person is yourself. Thank you !
Thank you so much!!
Very clear instructions and explanations without all the belaboring “about me” talk. Thank you so much!

Summer, I did this today and it turned out beautifully! This is the best layering technique that my hair has ever experienced either from myself or at the salon! I so appreciate you, Summer. Thank you so much! 🥰
Love the ways you are explaining how to angle the hand when holding the hair
Thks so much for this tutorial! I’m kinda relieved that I’m not the only one with one side of my hair thinning. Thks for your tips and easy to follow along teaching!! 🙌🏻😁
Glad it was helpful!

Wow!!!! You really know your hair. I wouldve nevee known that your hair is so fine. It looks fantastic
Love this Summer, great that you did it on your own hair for cutting our own hair. Really clear tutorial and fab end result.!! 👍
Can't wait to hear all about it!!!
So cool to see a hairstylist cut her own hair!
I *really* enjoyed this self-cut video! Thank you! Would love to see more
Thank you so much for this tutorial Summer!
Thanks

I just did Brad Mondo's butterfly cut at home (8inches & I have a video but not public) I'm really happy to have this tut so I can blend it & get it really REALLY "Matchy"! Lol but for real 😅
🤣 glad I can be helpful!
This is my go to haircut! It is so versatile , a little shorter sometimes and a little longer sometimes! Love your technique, thank you!
Love the color....do you do your own highlights?
Thanks so much!
Love the videos. In one video you mentioned hair extensions. Can you tell what kind/brand hair extensions you have and the maintenance required.
I have the style as you, been trimming my own hair for three years, I have a fringe is the only difference, my front layers start three inches below my chin, watching you I wonder if my face framing should be shorter.
All personal preference! You could probably cut into them a little bit but there's also nothing wrong with a slight disconnect.
Hi Lovelies! I so hope you enjoy todays tutorial!! Happy cutting 😁

Maybe if you part your hair slightly over to the left it will give you more volume to your right/front 😊 just a thought, great video.
My questions is, how do you get all those hairs from your top/blouse?
Thank you so much! What blending shears do you use? Can you please list?
I use 40T thinning shears from shark, you can find the link in the description!
Thank-you
Do you have a video explaining the difference between short and long layers? I could have sworn I saw that in one of your vids recently.
Do you prefer the Moroccan oil root boost over the Revlon Guts? I use the guts and was wondering if I need the root boost instead. TIA
Great video, Summer! I have a side part and wondered how this method could apply. Any suggestions? Thanks!!
You can do this same cut with a side part!
Great video Summer. Keep them coming.
Thanks for watching!
Summer, I just recently came across your site and I am so grateful for all the knowledge you have provided. What would you tools would you recommend for a person who wants to be able to cut her own hair & is not a professional?❤❤
Tbh you are a magician, a very talented hairdresser
Best hair trim video.. So detailed. Loved every min of it. ❤
Gorgeous!!!!
I'm ordering sissors, but could you cut the hair bluntly, instead of pin point?
Thank you so much it’s a DIY haircut perfection !!! It can be done on longer or shorter hair ! The perfect haircut for me .♥️ and Professional looking. I cut my hair for years now but this technique will improve my results ♥️😻♥️ kisss from France
Happy to hear!
The best face framing cut on you tube .simple.
So cute! How would I ask for this at the salon? I want this exact look but I don’t know how to communicate this to my stylist? 😕
I agree, I need it help trimming my own hair at home. Thanks
Waouh your hair is so beautiful ! Very shiny !
Thank you so much!!
Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you !!!
So glad!
do you have any recomendations for hairloss or thinning hair possibly r/t Covid or illness? have you learned any new info on this? thank you
I have seen covid hair loss amongst some clients. They don't always work for everyone but scalp serums or sprays can work great, but you have to use them every single day and some twice a day. I personally love Nioxin Minoxidil. If you want something more natural based, Kerotin has some lovely options as well!
@@StylesBySummer thank you
Gorgeous hair! Also, what eyebrow pencil/color do you use? It’s beautiful with your hair color
Is there a video where you initially cut the front/face framing layers??
I don't have one on myself but I set my guide first by taking the very front corner pieces of each side and then blend from there.
Great instructions. Thank you. 🙂
I want to try this but my hair is on the wavy/curler side, and it’s a lot longer.
However, I’ve been watching a few other DIY videos, and some hairdressers (with longer hair though) say to position the fingers and incline the hair (layered sections) differently. 🤦🏻♀️
Thanks again for your help. ❤ Sorry for the longest comment EVER.
It's perfect...leave it please..
I love it..I had so many hairdressers. Not 1 has taken that time to cut mine..
Come to Australia..lol
Thank you great channel..💖🇦🇺
Beautiful hair color
This is the hairstyle i want to get
Thank youuuu. My hair is amazing now ❤
Woohoo! I'm so glad!
Amazing tutorial, do you think this haircut will work for thin hair?
Yes it will, just really be aware of where your thinnest parts are when cutting!
Very minimalistic cut.
Thank you.
Que lindo quedó. Porfa me pued s decir que tonos de tinte tienes aplicados. Thank you
I love your haircut in this video!!!
I believe my hair is like yours so I'm wondering if you suffer from tangled hair after washing. If so, what detangles your hair?
Do you ever do mens cuts? If so do you think you could do a tutorial video?
I have one clipper cut tutorial ruclips.net/video/JwbgKqXDFVo/видео.html
@@StylesBySummer Oh awesome! Thanks and sorry for missing it myself :)
love U --perfectionist❤️❤️❤️❤️your DIY video saved my hair
