Excellent video. I’ve been cutting my own hair since I was about 18 (59 now). I got tired of hairstylists always cutting too much off. I have fine hair. I also colored it myself, blonde. I did go to a stylist years ago for color because I wanted red, brown and blonde streaks. I went to her for years because she only trimmed about 1/4 of an inch each time. She moved out of state in 2010. Devastating! I stopped coloring (LOVE my gray hair!) and since then I’ve had my hair professionally cut about 6 times, otherwise I do it myself. This video helped me with the front area. Going to try that pulling to one side. I have bangs and want the curve from the bang down to the sides, like in a ‘C’ shape. Thanks for the tutorial. It helps a lot.
Thank you for watching and for taking the time to comment! I am really happy that I was able to help you (especially with the front sections!) The key is to always go slow and cut off less then you think. You can always slowly add more later.
Gabi, you look gorgeous ❤The hairstylist I saw a few weeks ago needs some lessons from you. I have fine textured hair and she cut all these short layers (2") over my head. Then she said she had to cut off the back length of my hair to even off what she had done. The only long section left was my bangs and she styled them with a big round brush and it was all puffed out 😬 I am glad I am in Canada and I can pull up my parka hood and hide under it 🤣
You helped me so much ! I've had these overgrown layers for over a year, and I needed help! Your video Gabi, helped me have the confidence to give myself so well deservced style. So much love and light to you beautiful soul. Love and Light.
This was incredibly helpful! Thank you! I've been cutting my own hair for years and I didn't know about the angling of you fingers. Which makes complete sense. I've just brought my hair straight up, let a bit fall in the back and cut the rest straight across. I was about 12 when I learned how to cut my own hair. My brother's girlfriend at the time cut his hair and his friends hair. I watched and figured it out. But, I didn't notice the angling of the fingers. Now I understand how to change the depth of my layers. I am definitely giving this a try for my next cut. I think I'll try the angle up for a shag. I'm really looking forward to my next cut now. 😁💖🌺
So... if I pull it more towards nt face when I pull it up, that should give me longer layers? I pretty much already have built in long layers from the vid and losing my hair 3xs. It has finally gotten back to the thickness I am used to. However, that is only abot 4 or 5 inches from the scalp. It get thinner as it goes towards the ends. So I'm thinking to get it to look and feel healthier, some long layers may do the trick.
Gabi, you are an inspiration and all your videos have been so helpful. I have not been happy with haircuts lately from my stylists so I have been using your video tutorials and have now cut my own hair and am loving the styles I'm achieving on my own. Thank you so much. You are so darling and fun to watch as well as being a brilliant stylists with great ideas. I don't know why there are not more hair stylists who know what you know in styling hair and I loved watching your hairstylist cut your hair and was so happy to hear your views of starting from the front instead of the back which I've always suggested to my stylists and they always refuse. Now I'm going to insist. thank you so much for all your wonderful videos.
I have a short-long bob that had grown out and was looking really flat and awkward. This tutorial was perfect, I just followed the instructions and cut only the front section of my hair (which had grown out) and I got so much volume back! Thank you for explaining it so well! ❤
Great tutorial! If only I could do that to myself, my hair is long, thin and fine and I’m terrified of most hairstylists, I’ve tried so many…I usually look worse after they are done than before they don’t seem to know how to deal with hair as fine as mine once they wet it they can’t find the layers and just cut it straight across like a kid with scissors. Yours is beautiful ❤
I am so sorry that you had such a tough experience getting your hair cut in the past. Have you ever considered cutting your hair shorter and closer to my length? The shorter and more blunt you cut your hair, the thicker it looks.
@@GlamGirlGabi thanks Gabi I think of it but I don’t think I have a pretty/perfect enough face for it, I had short hair for a couple of years like 15 years ago every time I see a pic from then I notice some uneven features, people looked at me so much harder in the face, with long hair people mostly just notice my hair (for better or worse ha ha)
If they were really great senior stylists, they were not really that great. I find the majority of hair stylists are not that great. They watch too much social media and think they are worth their crazy prices. They are not.
@@tconcotelli You mean you have never had a stylist be a neurotic psychopath? LOL. I joke about that with my clients all the time. I practically following them to their car with a comb. Nothing like running your fingers through freshly cut hair! I have cut my own hair many times in my life, got better at it with time but made some big mistakes along the way. For example in high school, every other month, I would trim the ends of my long hair by dumping my hair upside down, brush thoroughly and lightly trimmed the ends parallel to the floor. Then I would stand up, brush my hair into place and trim the ends from side to back. It turned out pretty blunt in the front and uneven layers in the back. Not perfect…but I didn’t have split ends! Lol. Thankfully my wavy texture was very forgiving and disguised the mistakes well. Thanks for this tutorial! I am sticking with my hairdresser, Melody. She is such a great listener and so precise!
I’m SO SICK of getting horrible haircuts!!! Haven’t had it cut since April & just wore it up all Summer. Now it’s pretty bad, but it’s curly, so curl often hides a multitude of ills. I really need a cut but am afraid to go anywhere, (will YOU please cut it???) so I took the plunge!! Bought some stylist’s scissors & followed your directions to a tee. We’ll see…my hair is longer than yours & taking off length wasn’t addressed, so it is the same length but the layers are cleaned up. We’ll see what happens when I wash it again and style the curls as usual. Thanks for a GREAT tutorial!!! I’ve never done this, so it took forever just to section off that first front quadrant!😂🤣I know it’s not perfect, but it’s better than it was! Thanks again!!!
Oh my gosh Gabi those videos stress me out you have no idea. I watch with one eye open cringing as they cut the ponytail in a sweat. I feel like I need a glass of wine afterwards lol. I wish I could be like that but I’m too type A personality I’m definitely not a risk taker. These type of hair tutorials I definitely appreciate. 😊
I am the same way. I am too controlling. I went through this precision haircut three times LOL. Twice wet and once dry....The thought of my just grabbing a ponytail and cutting...HELLLLLSSSS NOOOO
Although a little nervous about cutting .y iwn hair, this was very helpful just when I needed a haircut. Yours was perfection and it looks so sophisticated.
Omg thank you so much. I recently blunt cut my hair and it really needs some shape. My hair density is very similar to yours, I can’t wait to try this tonight, this is the exact cut I was wanting!
This is a great cut technique, but I get all caught up in the back trying to make sure my finger angles are the same on each section. It’s so hard to remember exactly how angled my fingers were on previous cut. I always make things harder than they need to be. 😂
I know how you feel. When you don't have the experience of doing it a lot, it can be really confusing. The key is mainly to follow the guide. Take sections that are small enough that you can see the guide through. That is the easiest way to make sure that every section is exactly the same. Practise makes perfect too. You just have to practise and you will get better and better each time.
@@abunchahooey Yes I did that too when I was a beginner. Be careful that you have the angle you want when you make your guide and then just use that for everything else. As soon as you have your guide, the rest is easy because it's just dragging that guide around the head (by taking half of it as you move around) and cutting to match that line. If you can't see your guide, it is because your section is too thick. Slow and steady wins the race :)
I tape a piece of paper in the proper angle on the wall opposite the mirror. I’ve been cutting my own hair for almost twenty years and I’m not a professional by any means. The paper trick I’ve used for years because my astigmatism makes me see really wonky if I look too far into my periphery. 😂 I’ve used a few pieces of colored construction paper for this when I’ve cut my hair super short. My DH has suggested painter’s tape but I’m used to the paper. If you have good eyesight, a Sharpie marker line on a mirror can do the same thing. Rubbing alcohol takes Sharpie right off the glass.
Can you do a whole box dye video for men? Garnier, Clairol, L'oreal vs Men brands (Just for Men etc), Which reflect of color fits men better (Ash vs Neutral vs Golden)? How to dye very short hair and root touch up? Thanks!
Great Vid! Could you do one with someone who has very long hair. Most of the pony tail vids I have seen are very long hair almost to the waist, some actually are, not mid length or shoulder.
No love, it's not neurotic- it's called perfectionist. And in my book, that's a great thing! Plus, I'm a Virgo😂...I think I don't have to explain any further 😉 I was becoming more and more desperate because I cannot decide which hairdresser to choose and I almost did that "butterfly cut" on myself, although it didn't have much sense...but, as the saying goes: desperate times call for desperate measures. Or something like that🙄😁 Anyways, I'm more that happy and forever grateful for this video!!! I'm going to my mum's tomorrow for lunch and I'll ask her to help me. Definitely there are far less possibilities for it to go wrong than trying that infamous "butterfly butchering". Thank you, not just for this video, but for every single one. Beside being a real professional, you are an amazing, beautiful inside and out woman. I'm so thankful for finding your channel about a year, or a bit longer, ago. I could write an essay praising you, but I hope you know how wonderful and helpful you are. I've watched, I think it was the last one, your video where you talked about your grandparents. I was crying as crazy because it was so relatable. And everything else that you've stated in regards to being a content creator...damn, I always knew it was a tough job, but moreover, everything you've said showed what kind of a person you are: honest, real, kind, lovely...as I've said, I could write an essay. Well, I've already done it 😅 I wish you all the best- lots of love, health and tranquillity and I'm sending you the biggest hug! Love from Croatia 💙

How do I do the face framing when I always wear a side part? Because I find that if I cut it in a middle part and then lay and style it in my side part it looks uneven.... Should I just do this technique on the whole head, cutting it while it is in my usual side part?
Gabi, you are so beautiful 😊 I could never cut my own hair, I will leave that up to the professionals (lol) Thanks for showing us this idea though! Cheers 💕
Gabby may you please do the point cut on a mannequin, is hard to see what you are doing since your fingers holding the hair is blocking the view. Thanks.
It’s so hard to find a good stylist. My last one was great the first few times, but after I got home the last time she completely missed a section (I fixed it) and I have yet to go back. Thank you, this will be the refresh I need! * grabs scissors *
Jamie if that ever happens, give her a call! Sometimes we just have off days as stylists and if she is proud of her work, she will happily take you in and fix it. I have had color errors happen before and I never ever get upset when a client calls me. I would rather fix it then have them walking around feeling uncomfortable with how their hair looks.
Thank you. Can You please write what kind of iron did you use ? It doesn’t look to big and looks like it does a quick , right job with your hair 👍👏thank you
This is a very good tutorial, Gabi, showing people how to actually cut hair like a professional. That rubber-band gimmick is terrible, total laziness with no understanding of hair, angles, how it falls and moves, face framing, and building of layers.
Can we do this only with front face framing layers Just like 90's layers On thin hair?? And the simple trimming on the back not to cut the length?? Would that gives the thick hair illusion?
My hair is fine like your . I would probably never cut my own hair so what do I ask for when I go get my haircut ? I too do not like a lot of layers in my hair which most hairstyles like do.
This is 1,000% the exact hair cut I want and need. I don't have near the skill to DIY it, but may email my stylist this video, is that wrong? Following you now, here and on IG.
So much love for you , thank you beautiful soul 💛 Wish you showed us the end result for little longer, to my taste was not long enough to appreciate your amazing haircut. I want to show it to my hairdresser. Is the cut of the hair ends at the back of your hair (to remove heaviness)appropriate for fine hair? What I mean us about the point cutting to remove density, is it appropriate for fine hair? Blessings 🙌 beautiful sister
I don't know if this could help, but you can slow the video speed down as low as to 25%, and then if you're on your phone take a screen shot or two or three. If you're on a computer you can use "snip" and cut around the portion of the screen you want to save and then send it to your email to show stylist on your phone.
So you don't like short layering because you have thin hair. I have long thick hair. But I want to keep it long to put it in braids and buns and top knots etc. so I would be correct in making long, right? Why over direct to the back? I bought the scissors and comb just now on amazon
Hon, this is WAAAYYYY more involved than the ponytail cutting tutorials! Soooo much can go wrong with THIS method! Duh! The ponytail cut is simple, easy & looks awesome. You should try it! 🤭
I am afraid to try this. But I like the 90’s look. My stylist is very experienced. How do I ask him for this cut & explain it without offending his ego?
How about a tutorial of the blowout to get that volume? Also some products that do not cost a fortune. Money is tight these days so we need less costly options.

I love this cut & thank you so much for all the details re: cutting in the tutorial!
My career was hair cutting...
Perfect haircut...love❤
Gosh, you're gorgeous. I'm not brave enough to do that to my own hair, but glad some folks are!
Great Vid! Could you do one with someone who has very long hair. Most of the pony tail vids I have seen are very long hair almost to the waist, some actually are, not mid length or shoulder.
No love, it's not neurotic- it's called perfectionist. And in my book, that's a great thing! Plus, I'm a Virgo😂...I think I don't have to explain any further 😉
I was becoming more and more desperate because I cannot decide which hairdresser to choose and I almost did that "butterfly cut" on myself, although it didn't have much sense...but, as the saying goes: desperate times call for desperate measures. Or something like that🙄😁
Anyways, I'm more that happy and forever grateful for this video!!!
Well, I've already done it 😅
I wish you all the best- lots of love, health and tranquillity and I'm sending you the biggest hug!
Love from Croatia 💙
I thought it was just me who had recession at the temples! Nice to know I'm normal after all. I have very similar thick hair, so I'm going to try this. Thank you.
What a great video! 💇♀️ I predict a million views on this one! ❤
Absolutely beautiful!☺️
Your channel was mentioned by Penn.Smith.Skincare and I've been loving most of your content! I'm looking forward to seeing future videos - Merry Christmas to you & your family!!
Your hair is pretty!💖💖💖
I LOVE IT SO PRETTY
Would this method of cutting work for thick hair? Or would it look different?
You explained this so well!!!
You look so pretty with that side part!
Aaaw thank you so much ❤️ I really appreciate it.
It looks gorgeous!! YOU look gorgeous! Such a great technic, and your step by step guidance seems doable...I think 😬
Give it a shot and if you get stuck, leave a comment and I can try to help the best that I can! I appreciate you taking the time to leave me some feedback.
How do I do the face framing when I always wear a side part? Because I find that if I cut it in a middle part and then lay and style it in my side part it looks uneven.... Should I just do this technique on the whole head, cutting it while it is in my usual side part?
Excellent tutorial thanks for sharing
You look beautiful in the hair cut
I wish I could be good with parting especially the back of the hair .... I find it so difficult to do it myself 🤷🤦
I'm going to try this, I have 0 shape, long VERY VERY thick wavy hair. QUESTION: Does the first back section go start at the base of the neck?
Thanks for the great tips. So many great tips.
I. LOVE THE " NATURAL BEAUTY"❤
you look very Prety in natural 💐❤
Gabi, you are so beautiful 😊 I could never cut my own hair, I will leave that up to the professionals (lol) Thanks for showing us this idea though! Cheers 💕
LOL! Thanks Antonia for such a nice comment. It is NOT for the faint of heart! I totally get that!
I agree nor me!
To me this is short hair. Maybe medium, but definitely not long. Would this technique work on longer hair?
Gabby may you please do the point cut on a mannequin, is hard to see what you are doing since your fingers holding the hair is blocking the view. Thanks.
Yea for sure! I’ll be doing more and more cutting videos so I can be more detailed about that next time and zoom in on it.
@@GlamGirlGabi thanks, you are the Best 😊
Very helpful. Thank you for the tutorial.
You're so welcome. I appreciate you watching and taking the time to leave a comment.
Great tips 😊thank you for sharing ❤
It doesn’t look to big and looks like it does a quick , right job with your hair 👍👏thank you
Very good! Pro! I will use it to cut my hair. Thank you
Wonderful! Can you describe the point cut a little more please?
This is a very good tutorial, Gabi, showing people how to actually cut hair like a professional. That rubber-band gimmick is terrible, total laziness with no understanding of hair, angles, how it falls and moves, face framing, and building of layers.
Love it! What product do you use for volume? I’ve had no luck… I find they all make my hair sticky
Can we do this only with front face framing layers Just like 90's layers On thin hair?? And the simple trimming on the back not to cut the length?? Would that gives the thick hair illusion?
Gorgeous and talented
My hair is fine like your . I would probably never cut my own hair so what do I ask for when I go get my haircut ? I too do not like a lot of layers in my hair which most hairstyles like do.
Hi Gabi,
Do you still work as a hairstylist? I live in Mississauga and you love to come to you to get my hair done!
GREAT video. Thank uou.
All I can say is I want to be your client!
This is 1,000% the exact hair cut I want and need. I don't have near the skill to DIY it, but may email my stylist this video, is that wrong? Following you now, here and on IG.
So much love for you , thank you beautiful soul 💛
Wish you showed us the end result for little longer, to my taste was not long enough to appreciate your amazing haircut.
Hi, How would I ask my hair stylist for this cut? This is exactly what I want and it never seems to turn out like this. Thanks!
Thank you for the tutorials..i want to know your lipstick shade...please?????
Hon, this is WAAAYYYY more involved than the ponytail cutting tutorials! Soooo much can go wrong with THIS method! Duh! The ponytail cut is simple, easy & looks awesome. You should try it! 🤭
BRILIANT X WHICH PRODUCTS DID YOU USRE ON YOUR HAIR 😁🤎
Love it!
Yay! Thanks for stopping by Summer! From someone who is so amazing at cuts, did I pass on this one?
@@GlamGirlGabi absolutely! Love that you call out the pony cuts 🤣
@@StylesBySummer OMG I can't with the ponytail cuts...I have never and will never do it. The thought of losing that much control is terrifying to me.
Shall I ask my husband to try this? I am sure it would be relationship building!
I like this video. What color are your highlights, and are you warm or cool?
Can you do this haircut even if you do have shorter bangs and so the face framing farther down around the shorter bangs?
How did you style it in the end? Its not straight. It has volume .
You look fab x
Point cutting can be disastrous for many with fine hair.
so helpful
ur hair looks great😍🥰
Thank you so much 😀 I really appreciate the support!
I am afraid to try this. But I like the 90’s look. My stylist is very experienced. How do I ask him for this cut & explain it without offending his ego?
Beautiful
Thank you so much ❤️
I’m so happy that this video was helpful for you!
You're Great. Thank You... And mui bellasimo
How about a tutorial of the blowout to get that volume? Also some products that do not cost a fortune. Money is tight these days so we need less costly options.
your hair looks thicker every week!
It has changed so much hasn't it! It's WILD! I have never had hair this full before in my life.
Oh that looks so pretty "I love it" come and cut my hair.
Eu queria cortar assim mas parece tão difícil para mim 😢
I should have watched this video before I proceeded to my own hair 😂
Can you open a salon in Florida please? ❤
That would be a dreeeeam. Florida weather is my kind of weather!
Is your hair wet while cutting?
Gabi I live in Toronto where are you located and do you cut hair I would love you to cut my hair
hi. i have long layered hair i got a cut last week but the layers are all flipping up it very hard to style can this be fixed
Hmmmm I wonder if your layers are cut with a long to short finger direction and that is why they are flipping up. Do you have thick hair?
fine hair but a lot.
