Yes I would enjoy a series. I liked the dark haired cut better. It flowed and didn’t look choppy at all. Better all around look. I really enjoy your channel - thank you for doing it!😊
Some are turned off by ponytail diy cuts, ponytail cuts really helps a newbie stylist understand the overall cut better, some of us are more visual learners… keep em coming.
Last October I watched your tutorials several times then I cut my “all one length down to my behind” hair that hadn’t been cut in roughly 12 years. Turned out amazing. Your tutorials are the best I ever seen. I just freshened up my hair yesterday and it really looks. I need to pick up some thinning shears to thin mine some since I have very thick hair. Thank you for being so amazing at what you do. Your hair looks gorgeous. Love this look and cut the best! Really suited you.
I would so love to see different ponytail style haircuts on this channel because I live in rural Arizona and cannot find a hairdresser to save my life. If you did that I would be eternally grateful.
Yes to more ponytail style cuts. You are amazing at sectioning the hair as well. And your own hair looks absolutely stunning. Color and cut is perfection 👌
I agree. You look beautiful, I wish I could get coloring on my hair. I have natural black hair, bad hairdresser try to give me some highlights and turned some pieces orange! Yuck
Please more ponytail cuts. ❤ Id love to see longer layers but with face framing layers and feathering. Maybe also a tutorial on using the thinning scissors properly too. ❤
Such a timely video! I was just thinking that I may start cutting my own hair as they are getting too expensive for me. Yes, more ponytail cuts please!
I actually did the butterfly cut on myself on my collar bone length hair. I didn’t cut much from the back ponytail, but I got good face framing layers by pulling the front ponytail to the middle of my forehead like a unicorn and trimmed it from there just below my nose. It was a fairly easy process that I would definitely do again except that I want to grow my hair out as long as possible. 😊
Stylists will always do a better job, I think we all know that. The issue is we can’t afford to pay $50 to get a damn haircut anymore. We have to eat, pay rent, buy gas to get to & from work…..like there are much more important things we must spend our $$ on currently rather than on pleasures such as going to a stylist. I’m 53, I’ve never had to cut my own hair before, but I’m sure thankful for all the HOW TO videos out there to help me. Of course, I never thought I’d live to see the day vehicles cost what my house did. It’s just survival out here right now. And my hair has zero to do with my survival.
Plus, sometimes you’re in remote areas or simply unable to get out of your house. It’s great to have a way to hold you over while you make it to a professional.😅
I watched this yesterday and did my teen daughter’s hair a few minutes ago. I felt completely comfortable and confident doing this. I did the traditional technique. I only done hair during lockdown for Covid a few years back. I feel like I will be doing this again when it’s time. I did the ponytail technique on myself. So I’m thrilled with how well your video helped me. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. ❤ my daughter had Rapunzel hair so it was a challenge to medium long hair.
The longer the hair the longer the layers..so keep your shortest layers a little below should or longer. This will.prevent too stringy or whispy of layers. A cute cut for medium length is a v cut and very very easy. Check that out. Its basically section like taking 2 pony tails at the side not raised but tie them low but over over your shoulders and pull the tie down to the length you want below the tie then make sure both ties line up for even sides. Not professionally we do this but with smaller sections drop.
Please, more ponytail cuts!!! This is a great video! Thank you for your hair tutorials. I have curly/wavy fine hair. Is there a ponytail cut for my type of hair? Again, thank you, for your tutorials!
I really liked this tutorial because it helps to cut for shorter hair that is not long enough to pull forward like other butterfly cuts for longer hair. I first cut my friend’s hair as a layered bob and didn’t like it. She has a lot of thick hair. I have the butterfly cut myself and i love it and my hair is a bit longer. Anyway i went back and gave her a butterfly cut in front which came out beautiful but i couldn’t do the typical back ponytail forward because now it’s shorter with layers. This video shows a different way to pull the back ponytail back instead of forward. So i will correct the back of her hair, can’t wait!
Yess i also love that my salon does something called "quiet chair" and they wont try to do that awkward small talk thing with you which is so nice haha
I loved this video! I always enjoy your haircutting tutorials and explanations. This was a great comparison of a stylist custom cut and the ponytail home cut. It was very helpful on why you held your scissors vertically or horizontal, can you touch even more on why you'd pull your hair higher or lower on these ponytail haircuts. Thank you, for sharing your knowledge!
Out of all the RUclips videos I've seen for ponytail hair cuts and I've seen a lot,you explain so much better and none of them show how to make your hair have a soft look after the cut like you explain, not saying the other people were not good just saying that you give more detailed information on how to do everything and different that's for sure. Watched a few of your videos and I was hooked so ty for making these videos keep them coming please.
You're an amazing teacher!! Thank you loads, I am not able to get out much right now or to sit for ages because of spine pain.. These pony cuts are ideal, I can do at home in stages with a bit of help from hubs! The cut looks better than I have paid a small fortune for in the past. Bless you, Summer. x
I like both. I do see the difference. Ponytail may be easier for us DIYers. Hope to see more Ponytail Cuts in future. Thanks for all these great videos and great cuts.
yes more pony tail hair cuts! its is sooo hard to find a good hair dresser and these videos are so helpful! i actually did the butterfly cut today and loved it! when i seen your video it was too late ..lol but loved your explanation and what sheers to get taking the notes! Can you show us you know it was a little bit "bulky" towards the back of the hair when you were showing the comparison can you show us how to "fix" that once its styled or doing pony hair tails so if we end up with a little bit of bulk we can fix it. You are an awesome hairstylist sighh wish you could do my hair but for now I will follow your tips and tricks.
Definitely would LOVE to see more DIY ponytail cuts! I have long curly hair...I'd love to see one that is curly girl hair friendly. Our hair can easily look choppy with the butterfly cut and borderlines "mullet". That's definitely not what I'm looking for. 🔴😬😅 Something that'll transition layers well from top to bottom while keeping the length full would be awesome! Hopefully this is possible. Fingers crossed! 😅 Thx in advance!
Thank you for being so relaxed you make this cut very enjoyable and not threatening I am excited to see the results good teaching ability! Keep up the great work show us something different I look forward to seeing your platform!
I'd love to see more pony tail cuts!! My hair is long, very thick and coarse w/wave. I've been using various methods like pony/pig tail cutting for many years. There is a vid from over 8 years ago from a woman named Jennisse, one of those " how I cut my hair", and I've used variations of that method with great results. You'd never think it was possible! The pony tail methods of cutting become popular during 2020 but it originated long ago!
Summer, your own hair style today looks absolutely amazing! Do you have a video that shows the steps you take to accomplish this style? How would you describe your haircut . . . eg, is it a bob or a butterfly cut or something else?
It is a regular bob, and this last cut I had her take it a lil shorter on my tucked side to make it a bit asymmetrical. My 2nd to last video I did a curling tutorial and I curled it similar to how I did in that one with the clamp curling iron!
Thank you that was a huge help. I decided to go to a salon and not cut it on my own. Now that I saw the comparison I liked the professional cut more because it looked more full on the ends
Could you do the same cut again by cutting the hair in front at two different angles (45 degrees down and 45 degrees up), showing the difference from what you did now (where you cut the hair in front without lifting it up)? And about the back ponytail, cutting the hair upwards at 90 degrees (instead of 45 degrees as you did), and alternatively cutting the back by bringing it forward (as seen in some videos), comparing the three versions of the cut? I would also like to know how to connect the cut of the two ponytails by making the same type of cut but leaving the hair much longer (I have a tight curl, type 3c), so for example that the cut made in the front ponytail acts as a guide for the back ponytail, in order to avoid a disconnected cut. Sorry for my English.
This is my best hairstyle and I'm so grateful. I have a narrow face without cheekbones, and fine wavy hair and this cut is perfect for "poofing" my waves and adding texture, while making my face appear a little fuller. Now I can get it done myself and save lots of time. Thank you, Summer!
Yes! More ponytail cuts. I’ve been cutting my own hair for over a decade to help with expenses. I’ve learned so much from you, including how to layer my own hair. I recently cut it to a lob, but can’t get it quite right. It’s the layering… Question, is there a trick to bring up the length on this cut? I think I would like a stronger baseline with all that beautiful movement.
This was such a good video, amazing to see the difference! I would love to see more ponytail cuts like this- maybe even on long hair like a long u shaped cut? Love your videos x
YES! Please more ponytail comparison vids! Also, would be helpful to understand how to ensure those of us with fine/thin hair aren't taking off too much in the wrong places where it reduces volume at the bottom or make the ends look stringy. I have Anaya heard I need to make sure there's a good amount of blunt cut at the bottom underneath the layers. THANK YOU! This video is AWESOME! MORE PLEASE! ❤
I would LOVE to see more ponytail cuts. I just don’t have the time, money, desire to go to a hairdresser, but I do want my hair cut sometimes, and the last couple times I’ve done pony tail cuts at home, and I love them. Can’t wait to try this one!
Ponytail cut for the win. The salon one is nice but the ponytail cut really had the edge. The hair has more personality and looks really good. My sister recently decided that the hairdresser didn't give her the layers she wanted so she gave herself a diy ponytail butterfly cut and it looked so much better on her.
Wow the ponytail cut came out so good! I actually think the ponytail cut looks better in the front, but I have to agree about the ponytail blond needing to be softened up in the back like you were talking about. I've never even thought about cutting my own hair until a friend of mine showed me how she did hers in just one ponytail several years ago and it looked so so good! I googled it, and watched videos for weeks and weeks before I finally did a 2 ponytail cut on myself. I haven't been back to a salon since! Though I started doing 3 and even 4 ponytails to get more layers, but leaving some length and especially 4 smaller ponytails does soften the back out like the blonde mannequin needs to be here! It's been a few years since I had anyone else cut my hair! With prices of everything but our paychecks going up, anything I can do myself and 40 50 bucks 3 times a year, it's kinda a have to! I really do miss the pampering and such at the salon though!!
The one you cut and textured is nicer and will last longer while it grows out. The ponytail one is really good for that pony tails wow! I sure was surprised! I would still be nervous. Your cut, hands down! It's the better one with all the face framing. Thank you :)
Would love a series on how to cut and modify wigs. They often have too much bulk. I try to buy the heat friendly ones that can take styling tools. Love your videos Summer!
Yes please series. I used to do ponytail cuts alot due to money issues, but now I have to do it again as my health dosn't really permit me to go get it cut. But nowadays I have bad eyesight (wear glasses, but obv can't while cutting). So trying to do the ones I used to do isn't as good now. 😅
Can you tell us about your hair cut?? Details on the layering, and I'd greatly appreciate information on your color. I'm a redhead and struggling to get the right color from my stylist. Thank you.
It was a great haircut. I usually cut my own hair, but the ponytail in the back would be difficult to do on my own at that particular angle. Paul Watts has a triple unicorn butterfly cut that I think for me is easier because everything is up front.
I, personally, prefer your salon cut. I like density at the baseline. If I did the home ponytail cut as you did in this tutorial, I'd probably end up whacking a couple of inches of the overall length to achieve more balance between the front and back sections. I'm curious about ponytail placement effect on achieving the balance between heavier top layer and bottom less dense layer. Would taking less off the forward section create a more balanced haircut? I guess it wouldn't technically be a butterfly haircut anymore.
After doing this cut, I am excited to try more ponytail cuts. I think the options to create more custom cuts are there, the sectioning and cutting angles need to be right. Definitely still a science to it, but I'm excited to try more!
Yes!!! Been waiting for this one, I always wondered if the pony tail cuts were not as good or better:) Thank you❤️ Oh my gosh, I would like to see all the ponies:)
What would happen if you do the ponytail cut on the back half but then cut the front half manually without ponytail, as you did in the prior butterfly cut. ?
Like both but I prefer the dark pne. It looks softer. The length is round or oval. U wd like a butterfly cut but longer. My hair is mostly white. Length is almost to my waste.
As a stylist there is definitely things I want to go in and do precision cutting, but for the ease of this, if someone can't see a stylist, I thought it can work great for most people. If layers is something, on is wanting of course.
Please do more ponytail haircut videos! I love love LOVE my stylist so much but good haircuts ain’t cheap anymore. 😭 I would love to save money on a haircut/trim by doing it at home and then going to her for my color.
Such a great video! I’ve been tempted to do a ponytail cut for layers in back (I already do my own face framing layers in front). My hair is on the thinner, finer side so it seems a ponytail cut would result in too much fullness taken from the bottom. This video just saved me from a haircut I probably wouldn’t like on me. Thank you ❤❤❤. That said if there is a way to do a ponytail cut for layers for fine hair, I’d love to see it!!!
You’re so gorgeous! I love these videos! I keep watching them over and over trying to get the courage to cut my hair ! Pays $56 for a VERY simple cut recently and was floored ! Nobody had told me about the price hike and I didn’t even notice til I got home . Don’t want to hurt my stylist’s feelings. But I ain’t going back! A super simple face frame and a 3” off trim in the back is not worth that much. Love my stylist . But the salon she works at messed up cuz I ain’t paying that again! Thanks to you , I hopefully don’t have to . Watch me mess up and go crawling back . 😂. I’ve not burned any bridges just in case 😂
I’d love to see more ponytail cuts! Absolutely! This one turned out so awesome! What I’m wondering is with the Mondo version..he pulls the hair forward and down to right between the eyebrows..then rubber bands it. I’m wondering if that’s what makes his version less bulky at the top rear? Maybe that super over forward direction resolves that? (Not a hairdresser ;-) just saw that was a slight difference with the other 2 pony tail cut method!) Thank you! I so want to try this ..but am terrified I’ll mess it up! Lol! 😊
yes more ponytail cuts! i can't afford the salon right now because of inflation so i will be following this cut when i do my hair tomorrow. it would be nice to have more options i can try in the future :) thanks Update: I followed your video and my hair looks super cute!! I found the only issue was the back-top part of my hair was a little heavy just like you noticed on your cut so I went back in with thinning shears and it helped a bunch. :)
This is really nice, thank you for detailed video and comparison! I would like more pony tail cuts definitely! Also in other tutorials I saw front ponytail being put more in between eyebrows (lower), rather then here, where it is more in the hairline, I wonder what the difference is.
I want to see you do the final touches to texturize or fix the ponytail cut manaquin. That way we could do this at home and make it look more professional. i liked the manaquin with the dark brown hair more than the light one. So I'm curious to see what else you could do to the light colored hair to get it to look more like the pro salon cut.
I really enjoyed your video very much! Yes, please do some more ponytail haircuts and if you can create a ponytail haircut where we can then have face framing layers. That would be awesome. I have become pretty good at cutting my own hair and my own bangs with the guidance of some of you. Wonderful hairdressers. Thanks so much 🙏🏼🤗🙏🏼
Would love to have seen how you styled the hair (though maybe you showed this in the professional cut video, I haven’t wacthed it yet). Also, you mentioned texturizing the top section at the end. How would you do that for a ponytail cut? Face that top ponytail towards the back and cut vertically like you did with the lower ponytail? Came out beautifully!
also, it would be great with these 2 mannequin heads, could you take a comb through the ponytail one and see how it all matches up as if you were doing a normal cut like the brunette? I'd love to see how that compares.
It's a true DIY haircut tutorial today! These types of videos are literally improving people's lives.
Except when it goes wrong and they come to us stylist and expect a miracle. lol.
@@tamarastrong3036This is why I do all of my practicing on wigs. I would never forgive myself if I messed up my beautiful natural hair 😂
@@tamarastrong3036or stylists mess up our hair, I've done this cut it turned out so much better than the haircuts I've got in couple years lol

Yes more ponytail cuts please! Also, I would appreciate tips for fine thin haircut DIYs especially how to do the back of your own hair.
Just released another DIY cut this morning!
I love this tutorial!! This makes so much sense and I will definitely make this happen. Love to see more various ponytail cuts. Thanks Summer!

I would definitely love to see more ponytail cuts! This was great to be able to see the differences and the similarities!
Both cuts are stunning and I a would wear both. Yes, please do a video on all the different Pony Tail cuts. Can't wait!!!!!! ❤
The one you cut and textured is nicer and will last longer while it grows out. The ponytail one is really good for that pony tails wow! I sure was surprised! I would still be nervous. Your cut, hands down! It's the better one with all the face framing. Thank you :)
Yes please for more ponytail cuts!!!
One is coming out tomorrow!
I'd love a ponytail haircut ideas series! Really helps ppl like me who aren't really local to any good salons (I'm super rural).
I'm filming one this weekend or early next week!
Hi Summer ❤ I’d LOVE to see a ponytail cut for long layers. I loved this video!
Noted!
Thanks!
YES!!! do a ponytail video of cuts! such a great idea, Summer!
Yes, more ponytail cuts!!❤
I loved this video! Yes please do more ponytail videos. Is there one for blunt bob?
I practiced a bob one the other day! Wasn't exactly blunt but trying to get an idea of what works best for the ponytail options!
Loved it! Thank you 😁
Could you please make a video for a ponytail shag haircut please? (midlength)
I'm planning to do a whole series!
I would definitely like to see a series on ponytail cuts!
Love the pony tail cuts, Ive done a wolf cut on mine and added a partial micro fringe keen to see more
I am filming one probably this weekend or early next week! Glad to hear you enjoy!
Yes yes yes for sure!
How about for very thick naturally wavy hair with a little layering♥️.
Thankyou so much, you are a gem!
Love your tutorials.😊
Another one comes out this week on Thursday!
@@StylesBySummer Thank you! I’m super excited🙈❤️
What would happen if you do the ponytail cut on the back half but then cut the front half manually without ponytail, as you did in the prior butterfly cut. ?
I’d love to see more ponytail cuts, especially for long hair
Like both but I prefer the dark pne. It looks softer. The length is round or oval. U wd like a butterfly cut but longer. My hair is mostly white. Length is almost to my waste.
As a stylist there is definitely things I want to go in and do precision cutting, but for the ease of this, if someone can't see a stylist, I thought it can work great for most people. If layers is something, on is wanting of course.
i like the ponytail cut so much more!! less texture looks smoother and kept together 🫶🏼
Yes ! I wanna see a pony cut for the face frame! Thank you so much! Big hugs n love ❤
Summer, you just uploaded a haircut video on my birthday and I'm here for it 😊😊😊😊😊
Woohoo! Happy birthday Nathan! I hope you have an amazing day!
@@StylesBySummer Thank youuuu and that ponytail cut came out so beautifully and I was caught off guard just like you were
Yes more ponytail haircuts please 😍😍😍😍
Nice ponytail cut! Would it work for wavy hair too?
I think so!
Great video, and YES to more ponytail haircuts. Love ur channel! ❤
Yes more ponytail cuts. I actually like it when I cut my own hair better than when I have a stylist do it bc I know how I want it to look.
yes, more ponytail cuts please! 😍
Would love to see you do different ponytail cuts. Fantastic!!
Coming soon!
Please do more ponytail haircut videos! I love love LOVE my stylist so much but good haircuts ain’t cheap anymore. 😭 I would love to save money on a haircut/trim by doing it at home and then going to her for my color.
Noted!
This is by far the best tutorial I’ve seen. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Lol! 😊
yes more ponytail cuts! i can't afford the salon right now because of inflation so i will be following this cut when i do my hair tomorrow. it would be nice to have more options i can try in the future :) thanks
Update: I followed your video and my hair looks super cute!! I found the only issue was the back-top part of my hair was a little heavy just like you noticed on your cut so I went back in with thinning shears and it helped a bunch. :)
I would love to see your hair cut in ponytails!!! I love your haircut!
It may be a video coming soon!!
Yes pls .. what is the name of your haircut and please do a ponytail video to achieve like your haircut.. thanks
This is really nice, thank you for detailed video and comparison!
I would like more pony tail cuts definitely!
Also in other tutorials I saw front ponytail being put more in between eyebrows (lower), rather then here, where it is more in the hairline, I wonder what the difference is.
Now I have to go look for the video for the dark hair. Came out perfect!!!
I would love to see more!! You are wonderful Summer thank you so much for sharing your talents with us!!🧡
Filming one next week!
I've bee doingmy mom's hair for almost 20 years and she asked me to do this haircut. I was afraid of the result, but now I will try it.
Hi Summer-I believe I am close to you in Orlando Florida. I want to come in for a haircut-how do I set up an appointment?? Thank you!!
Both are beautiful. One is more layered than the other but still great!
Yes! More ponytail cuts, please!
Thanks so much 🙏🏼🤗🙏🏼
I would love a series on the ponytail cuts! I’m going to try this one on myself!
