Hey Lovelies! I hope you enjoy today's video! This is a super fun cut, great for thick hair or those looking for lots of movement and texture!
I wish you were my hairdresser! I can't get anyone to give me this cut
I think most hairdressers just don't want to spend the time. You clearly enjoy it!
Beautiful ❤️
@@sageparsely2365 it’s not that, as a hairstylist myself, it’s painstakingly a ugly cut. It doesn’t look great on everyone and those few that don’t, look crazy. As hairstylists it is our aim to make people feel and look great not walk out of the salon looking worse.
@@sageparsely2365 at least the shags I’ve seen were ugly. The one Summer did is nice.
@@kearabevels I have a ton of hair and one hairdresser even told me once you have too much hair. I never went back bc I always got the feeling she didn't want to work with my hair, she actually told me I have too much hair for that cut. Whaaa? That's exactly WHY I need that cut. So that's my experience. Personally I think she wanted to turn her chair quicker. Everything I asked her to do she would say that's not for me and she didn't feel comfortable doing it. That specifically a keratin treatment. I always got keratin for my frizz and looks and feels great.
You are incredible Summer! I wish I knew a hairdresser with your skills.😔 99% of the time my haircuts are disappointing even after much discussion on the result I’m wanting. Love the layered cuts you do.😊
Thank you so much!! So hope you find someone!
Agree with you Jean
I have thick short hair. When I go to hairdressers, they mostly say, so much hair. So, what they do is to 'thin' the hair out. But what I really want is to enable my hair to have MOVEMENTS ! So so hard to find a hairdresser that understands this.
Hi! stylist here of 17 years. Show pictures! A picture tells a million words. Then express what you like about the picture and maybe what you don't. Try to find a picture of someone who also has thicker hair with the same texture you have. I hope you find a great stylist and have a clear consultation and get the look you want!
Same here
Me, too! Once they thinned it so that they it was almost see through! I was SO mad!
Yes!! Please show this haircut with long hair. My mom used to cut my hair like this, and I haven’t found anyone in the small towns around me, who can do this cut! I have let my hair grow out because I can’t trust anyone to do it. My hair is down to almost just below my middle of my back, and I have only cut the long slopes in the front of my hair, myself. It’s too long for me to try and layer it myself. I was so shocked and surprised when I saw this video come up today!, but SO HAPPY, because I can now show someone how to do it, especially if you do it with the long hair! In the 80’s, I would curl the whole thing back, and the top too, and of course make it stand up some…not as high as some girls did. I never heard it called a shag, regardless..this is my hair cut!!! Thank you so much!!!💜💜💜
I ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ this hair cut . So beautiful and lots of layers. You r the best Ms Summer. It's a really step by step tutorial. I want my hair like this. Where can we find you???
OMG!!!! I had a hair stylist who’d cut my hair this way, but she no longer cuts hair. Since I’ve never found anyone who cuts just as good but this video just does it for me!!! I am so amazed at your work!!! Love it!!!!
Where do you cut hair st?
That style is legendary from the GOLDEN YEARS takes me back to those good hair days ❤
That was my haircut in the early 80s! Thank you! I will do it again with my silver hair.
It's such a fun cut!
Beautiful cutting technique. had this cut in the late 70’s 😁 (plus hot rollers for volume)..
PLEASE would LOVE to see this done on longer hair (ex: Stevie Nicks) minus extensive texturizing. My favorite was the cut before you texturized the first time. But, I understand why it needed done. Texturizing the second time around the face and sides would have to be something I'd eliminate due to less hair volume. Thank you for all of your hard work and videos!
Noted! It's such a fun cut, I like it fuller looking as well!
Beautiful! Just the video I was looking for! I am not a hairstylist but have been doing my own hair for 30 years so I appreciate all your explanations- very easy to understand thank you!
I'm so glad!
I love all your tutorials. I would love to see you do this cut on long one length hair! I’ve never seen anyone hold scissors like you do!
Hey beautiful!! I'm finding myself going to your channel and learning haircuts, I'm currently attending cosmetology school. This is my second career at 39 years old, I've always had a passion for it just so scared to transition from an x-ray tech to a hairstylist but my true passion is cosmetology. I find haircuts to be so difficult for me. You are doing an amazing job teaching me. Thanks doll!!!
Aw thank you! I'm so glad I can be helpful to you! How awesome you are fulfilling your dream! I'm always here if you have any questions and it gets easier with time!
@@StylesBySummer I need to go to Florida so you can teach me live, that would be awesome!! I'll be your free assistant for a couple of weeks. 🙃🙃🙃🙃
Loooove this look! Its the hair I wish I had! Enjoy your teaching style so much!
Thank you Mary! It's such a fun cut to do, wish I got to do it for often!
Love this!! ❤️
And YES to your idea of creating a longer haired version with short layers. It can be overwhelming and I’d love to see how you would tackle that. 👌🌺
Hey Kristen! Yes I need to work on that video. I always like to do a bit of prechopping when someone comes in with a lot of hair prior to going shorter like this!
@@StylesBySummer Same! (I think).
I’ll end up cutting the length first and doing long layers and then coming in with the shag technique, adding the shorter layers.
Is that what you’re talking about? 🙃
This is a great haircut prior to texturizing and after, 2 totally different looks but equally nice. La la love it!
Right! You can totally customize it to fit any need!
Love this look. I have thick curly wavy hair and need layers, but no razor cutting as it causes frizz. Somehow the shag cuts I've been getting never turn out the same way. Thanks for this video!
Beautiful! I'm so wanting an 80s shag right now, this is perfect!❤
You make everything so clear and easy to learn!
Beautiful beautiful, beautiful haircut !!!!
I definitely could tell, it's a new type of haircut..
Just by the different types, of sectioning you did on her...
And that last back section, with no layering at all..
To keep her full length, without cutting the Hair shorter...
I just love watching, your tutorials !
And I'm not even, a hairstylist what so ever..
But I would show, my hairdresser this video...
Keep up the good work !
Thank you for watching! Happy to hear you enjoy the channel!
Would love to see a tutorial of how you styled her hair here. Love the look.
I can try to work on that!
You are right this is from the 80. ❤❤❤
I love a well-blended shag for my thick straight slightly course salt and pepper hair.! BUT I only allow scissor cuts, NO razors. They cause frizz and unhealthy ends, but mostly frizz.
Since covid I've cut my shoulder length hair in a shag using the "wolf cut" method, hair into top head ponytail held high and cut blunt. This method would work for me to do the sides and front.
This is perfection. I'm amazed by this video. Thank you!
Thank you so much!
Thank you for your time and effort you put into your work. You are a very skilled hand, it's good to watch your techniques. And you have well explained videos. Love your work. All the way from Australia 🇦🇺. ⚘️ ✂️
Thank you very much! Very sweet of you to take the time and comment ❤
This is my favorite cut I wore it all through high school in the early 70's. My hair currently is 6" past my back bra strap. Almost all one length. It is so hard to find someone who has your vision and who wants to spend the time to do structured cuts. I would to see the longer version of this cut. Also can you tell me the hair color of the manikin? Love the brown and highlights
Love this cut!!! Best teacher ever!!!
Could you do a video with using blending scissors not the razor. The razor damages my hair.
Scissors with the teeth I like better.
More videos on hair color and blending dark roots with gray and blending blonde. So all blend together!
Not ready to go full gray.
You should be teaching others. Some of these salons that charge way to much, have no idea what they are doing.
That you so much.💕
Great suggestion! Glad you are enjoying the videos!
You have done a great job with this haircut. Anyone who has ever worked on a mannequin (horse hair) knows that it is not like human hair. It's understandable why you need to keep looking and checking at the fullness and thinning it out. I hope to do this cut on someone soon who has much finer hair, thank goodness. Thank you!
Thanks for watching! Mannequin is a different animals that's for sure 😄
Really great job done, perfect haircut 👏
Just Beautiful!! Thank you! You make it easy! I really enjoyed your tutorial! :)
I'm so glad!
My mother is a Stylist and she always gave me the Lisa Rinna haircut which is a short shag, I love it but cant find anyone to cut it for me, I wish you were in Mass😢You're THE STYLIST IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR FOREVER lol
Love that hair cut. Adorable!
Thank you!! 😊
So lovely. I really love the layers all over.
It's so fun!
Love ur hair cutts😍.. Plz do hair cutting styles for wavy hair
I love love this hair cut! ❤.
Love it! Perfect!😍its exactly how i want my haircut💕
Yay!
First time seeing razor texturing, definitely going to try it out!
I love doing it!
I love the look of this hair cut, but I was wondering if you could please do a haircut and style for thin fine hair as my hair is very thin around my crown area and I always get stuck in what to ask for at the hairdressers.
I love this cut, but my hair is thin & fine. You do such beautiful styles. Thanks for sharing. I'd better stick to the butterfly style.
Thank you so much for the tutorial ❤️🙏🏻👍
Yes please show this on longer hair. Thanks
Noted!! Thank you for watching and your comment!
@@StylesBySummer thank you. It will be greatly appreciated.
This is beautiful 😍, I want my hair to look like this 😍
It's super fun!
Great tutorial!! Really clear and concise. 😊🥰
Happy you enjoyed!
I did! , just wish we had a tutorial for the blow dry as it looked sooo good, and with getting the volume on the top.
OOOOOHHHHH MYYYYYYYY GODDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!! That is the layering I need. What type of hair trimming sheers are those, please? Yes, your handling of the scissors are smooth and flowing. Where are you located? Thank YOU for your passion and incredible talent.
Love you teaching is wonderful!
I sent this video to my stylist and am getting it done this Wednesday. Would love to see how you blow it dry so I can get the same look.
So exciting!! I have been meaning to film a blow dry tutorial for it! I'm sure our stylist can give you some tips as well, products are key!
Gorgeous haircut !
Thanks!
I enjoy to see how u cut the hair I love the style and color I wish I can have the color of this hair cut
Thank you Master Summer.God bless Master Summer and family.😀🙏👍🙋🏻♀
I have learned so much from your tutorials thank you. I'll like to comment the way you handle the scissors, can you do a tutorial on managing all the tools you use and your favs I am definitely intrigued on the scissors you use can you link where to purchase these? Thanks again
Great cut, I enjoyed watching 💌
Thank you!
@stylesbysummer can you please make one for curly hair! I have curly hair and I really want this look !! But I never had any luck with the stylists I go too!
I wish you are in Glendale CA. So you can do that beautiful hair cut from my time the 70. I love it
Hi Summer, really appreciated you showing us a clear and technical method of cutting this hair style, step by step I understand your method so well, would love to purchase your cutting shear would you recommend me where to buy it.
Thank you! The brand of shears I have is Kashi, their swivel shears. I typically just order them online.
I love it cant wait to try it
Let me know how it goes!
Love it!
Beautiful hair cut. 😍
Thanks!!!
Do you have a video that shows how to dry and style this cut?
I do not, but I can try and work on one!
Super cute!!
Thanks!
Wow, 30 years of hairdresser in Beverly Hills. You inspire me,pay for Vidal sasoon, and your teaching is before Vidal Sassoon, pivot point. But you are amazing teacher,I recommend my coworkers who are 50 plus to watch your video or you tube. Different perspective on how and why. My point is everyone look. At this very young lady she. Makes it look easy because she knows and had good teachers and or experience in her salon.what ever it is, if anyone is a hater,if you are a true hairdresser..you are always creative and you can learn as well…. So sorry directing it to my coworkers, you make it look easy.you are helping our future people waiting to do hair. Will
Stop. My coworkers talk shit, they’re intimidating with the young people…
Thank you so much, very helpful video 👍👍
Awesome!
long hair with layer's you do such a good job
♥️♥️
Yes, that would be helpful
OMG I wish I was at your area or the country you were in.I you to cut my hair like that.its so beautiful style love it.
Thank you for watching and glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for your videos. You do a great job at showing and explaining. I was hoping you would bring the front sections in with the back sections to show that the layers blended together well. Since they were layered using two different approaches, I was curious about how they would come together. I did kind of cringe at the razoring. I’ve never understood that style of razoring. To me, there’s no control in the layering. After going through the trouble of matching guide strands and sections throughout the cut to then just randomly chop away at the hair simply makes no sense to me. I could see short pieces sticking out on one side with no match on the other side. I’m someone who really aims at precision when cutting so this razoring technique has always thrown me. Personal preference I suppose. Thanks again!
Thanks for watching and your comment! Yes razor is all preference, and this is about the only style I will use a razor on. It's meant to be more messy and not to perfect. I always have an internal battle of wanting everything to line up and evenly flow, when creating the cut so yes lol the razor seems like it's misplaced. I do feel like this type of haircut is meant to not be perfect though.
I managed to do the top and sides the back is going to be hit and miss...lol. going to try pigtails just in those top sections cut at the same length as the top guide. It won't be as pretty as yours but it's already a whole lot better than the puppy I used to be. I spent over a hundred dollar two months ago to get my hair cut. I've had dog ears ever since. Thank you. My curly hair also thanks you. No more dog ears.
Puppy ears are never good! Glad you could get it looking better!
Small update after three months of wearing this cut.....I have never gone out of my home without someone stopping me to tell me how pretty my hair is. Literally in parking lots and checkouts. The shocker......it's women...thank you.
Wish I had a hairstylist like you!!! Gonna tell my hairstylist to check out your site…hope she’s not offended!! Wondering how you use texture paste on long layered hair? Also how about a medium layer on longer hair that takes bulk off the bottom so that’s there’s movement there
Der Unterricht hat mir sehr gut gefallen ! 👌
♥️♥️♥️
Wow😍🥰♥️♥️♥️💖💖 love it
Cool... Bravo !!!
you teach very well I like watching you teach Thank you very much for making a great video to teach.
Thanks for watching!
Love this haircut! But not ready to (re)commit to bangs 🤓 how would you change the cut for subtle face framing and no bangs?
You would just start your face framing layer, farther down and not so high.
I always wanted this hair cut but didn't know its name, thank you so much for sharing! Do you know how it looks like on an curly hair?
Love it😍😍😍😍😍😍
Nice technique TQ for helping clients are your style love from india ❤️❤️❤️🙂
You are so welcome!
In the 90s we were not able Orr allow To use curing iron, only brush work,or pin curls or leave a brush in har. Expensive brush and 8 brushes or Velcro or pin curls.
I used to asked for a "Shag" haircut all the time years ago...watching this shows me I never once got a "Shag" not even from really expensive places...but, I always love it before the "texturing"...seems to think it out way too much
Beautiful n thank's for sharing
Thank you so much!
This is Amazing …. Video ! Thank you so much ….!!!🌹🌹🌹🌹
I'm so glad you like it Treena!
Hello Summer, do you recommend any Amazon texturizing shears. I know there will be no comparison to the higher end ones but I'd like a good starting pair. Thank you.
My tthing in 1992 was cutting and blo drying in the front .
e was front before the back even with blow dry
Thanks from my heart i wish u all the best in your life 🌹🌹🌹

@@StylesBySummer wish you could do my hair
I absolutely love this cut.🤗 I have only come across one hairdresser in my lifetime that cut my hair perfectly and yourself that know how to do this cut. I had to give a tutorial myself to the last hairstylist I went to and it turned out perfect. She was new and I had her give me a Farrah Fawcett cut. These two cuts THE modern Shag and the other go perfectly with my thick wavy hair. I love this! (Also, baby stylist here) But I do have a question, when doing the back, can't you just pull everything up to a stationary guide at the top?
Beautiful 😍
