So i hate to say this but there are only 3 patterns. "Action flash", "comet flash", and my personal favorite "signal alert". Honestly those are the 3 best ones out there, its always a variation of those flash patterns you see on construction and emergency vehicles. But man it looks so good, great purchase!
Thanks for your video, it was the most helpful of any, by far. Also appreciated a complete review of the light patterns on the F150. The patterns look a little different on a Dodge or Chevy setup. You had me nervous when you said "let's see if I blew up my BCM". Your check engine light issue, made me even more apprehensive. But I gave it a shot and everything worked like a charm! A couple things: 1. I disco'd aux battery first, connected it last. I also kept the key fob away from truck until I was completely finished. No check engine light. 2. The amount of wires and items in box is intimidating and the supplied instructions could be better, your video is a must watch. Your suggestion to orient the illustrations to the trucks BCM is helpful. You are right about wishing Ford had made the BCM connection with a little more lead in the wires. It's a very tight fit. 2. BCM/ Fuse box cover won't fit back properly. I had to modify the cover. 3. I'm using the supplied on/off switch. It gets power at all times, with red led "off" light staying on. I hope the power drain for that will be minimal and not cause issue. In the end, this turned out easier than expected in large credit to you and your video. I would've been frustrated as ever without it. Much thanks! You have a sub for life!!! Much thanks
You don't have to give the haters an audience. I didn't watch think it was how to of every minute detail you need. A but if what to do- and then review. You did great explaining why you wanted this, caveats, and your impressions. From a real consumer. Keep it up.
I appreciate the video. I've purchased the Z-Flash months ago and have been intimidated on installing it. I wish you would of showed some detail on the wiring. How to unplug the harness and which plug goes first. There is no room to work down there. Thanks for the video.
I felt the same way going in. But turned out easier than expected and works great. My guess is getting a camera down there to see everything would be impossible. Other videos show how to disc the BCM's, but don't so as good a job with showing the install. You can't connect the wires wrong, each only connects one way. Everything's a tight fit, patience is always helpful.
I hate fords with a passion that I can’t describe here, concerning language and just being unnecessarily foul. However, having said that. This is an excellent video and was described and performed in a professional way that other creators should emulate. Well done sir! Truck looks great!
Well I'm sold, I went to the Z-Flash site. I can't figure out who sells these? Their site doesn't. I didn't see any vendors anywhere. My other concern is while I have factory LED headlights & Fog lights, the rest of my stock 2017 Wrangler JK has reg light bulbs everywhere else. Will these burn bulbs out sooner? I'm a senior, I don't work on cars any more.
Pattern 1 and 4 are called "action flash", its what police, fire, and rescue usually opt for. One of my favorites as well! You'll see the top lighting brands like whelen, federal signal, and code3 using these patterns in their products.
I had the obd in my explorer and I was have problems with it traded the explorer in for 2021 f150 and was thinking about the same set up you have. Any problems or everything this working good yet.
How do I attach the included on off switch and what the heck gets plugged into the black 3-wire harness?? What are all these bronze 25V fuses with wires coming out both sides??
@@GearsGadgets 2020 Ford F150 Lariat Ecoboost FX4 3.5L. . Theres a cable with a mini usb with a switch, which I hate cos my dogs are always pressing it. Dan, can you help me? I want to hardwire my dashcam. I have a 2021 F-150. Which fuse # is the constant on power and which is the on when the ignition is on for the inside fuse box?
I’m curious about being able to connect this to my auto start stop button that came from the factory deleted? It’s just a blank switch that would be perfect for this. What do you think? Could it be done?
Question. I just looked at the zflash site. Looks like they have a plug n play obd2 only setup that eliminates all that plugging at the bcm. Is there a reason you went with this setup as opposed to the easier one?
This is a late response, but are you sure the obd2 plug will fit your 2021 F150? and the other issue -- the obd2 plug version may just be unavailable right now. I was looking at one (possibly the same one you saw), but it was unavailable, with no estimated time that would become available. So.... I bought the bcm version.
That’s odd. I just installed mine today and only have 3 flash patterns. Wonder if it’s because mine is an STX and yours is higher trim with LEDs? What did you do with all the wiring? Mine won’t fit behind the BCM cover. Not a chance
With the other electronics issues you've been having with your truck, are you sure Ford won't void any future issues because of this install? Especially since you did it yourself?
Fair point however it’s worth noting they would have to prove the modification caused the problem and I have enough documentation of problems existing before the modifications, on top of that, the modification is completely removable therefore could be taken off before going into the dealer which is the smartest thing one could do before going in for service on potentially related components. Honestly all the Zflash is doing is triggering light flashes no different than when you hit the lock or unlock button on your keyfob. It isn’t that intrusive of a modification to worry about warranty issues in my opinion. With all of that being said, everything comes with risks I suppose.
Dan love the channel always interesting content that looks great I wish I had a need for it I would get in a second also I finally came across the ford issue my f150 powerboost had a similar problem I am unable to download software I need Apin and a recall for a. You can block certain wires at the junction box area to keep certain lights from being activated. You cannot make that kind of change at the activation switch or pattern change button.
I’m contemplating ordering this for my truck. Which i just got on 1/3. My only concern is would this void my warranty. Can anyone here confirm or deny that it would void the warranty
I would really love to have this splash your system unfortunately with my poor eyesight I don’t think I could figure it out and I would probably blow my truck up LOL!
I had it installed for less than a month. Worked great for first couple of weeks and then my rear blinkers stopped working. Removed the zflash bcm and returned everything to factory and blinkers worked again. Reinstalled zflash and blinkers stopped working again. Paid over 300 for it and can't use it. What a shame and very disappointing
Yeah. Was super excited the first few weeks when it worked and then the issues with the blinker sucked. I run a construction company so was exactly what I needed. Oh well.
I ended up calling them and spoke with the engineer from zflash. He wasn't sure why it was happening but said it might be one of the connections wasn't working right. They are sending me new plugs and we'll see what happens. I have to say customer service is great.
