However, I have to wonder if the title of the song is a response to the title of the Cibo Matto song "Know Your Chicken"? The Shins knew and played shows with Cibo Matto in the early years. The "onion" might refer to the multiple layers of life, and/or the multiple layers of a person's psyche (?).
