When the world eventually ends this will play during the credits
Well said
This actually can work for fight club’s ending also
Please
I’m glad my girlfriend will never understand what this means
we've got to come up with a new thing to say about songs like this
Built to spill is one of those secret mega important bands.
for the chosen few
They are defo one of those secret bands nobody has ever heard of. I found them off the back of finding Modest Mouse, in my eyes the best of those secret mega bands. Odd thing is that so many bands admit to drawing inspiration from them...
We're the lucky ones
Massive to those who listen when others hear.
@@duck5tarhave you considered that you're all just young and we all listened to BTS two decades ago?
My two favorite lines in this song are "I want specifics on the general idea" and "I wanna see it when you get stoned on a cloudy, breezy, desert afternoon".
Greg Brown idk....when i hear “i wanna see movies of my dreams” i get fucking goosebumps every time. The idea is so far out yet plausible one day. Just imagine.
"I wanna see it untame itself and break its owner". I love your favorites too though.
If I don't die or worse, I'm gonna need a nap♡
I love the whimsy of the comets, stars, etc.
@@havable There are many excellent lines in that song, but you pulled out the winner.
This video really reminds me of the Boise I miss. When me and my girlfriend could afford to live in the north end working minimum wage jobs. The whole neighborhood felt like it was full of nothing but artists and musicians. Doug lived really close to me. I would always run into him at the circle k (?) on 13th st.
feels like that whole thing in any town is dead now, too many luxury apartments for young business people
Yeah, unfortunately those glory days of the north end are long gone. My wife and I got priced out of our house in the north end 8 years ago. An average NE studio apartment will set you back around $1500-1700/month
@@evanisovich is it still an expensive place to rent?
That’s how it is everywhere now. You’re either poor or rich
This reminds me of the time I was on a train with the big love of my life. He handed one earphone to me, and played this song. The train ran through the Tuscan countryside at sunset. I laid my head on his shoulder, knowing that our time together was limited and watched the landscape to this wonderful song. We only got to spend 10 days together and I never forgot him. Only recently I have been able to play this song again. Before, I just couldn't, I would lose my breath. The memories it brings are too overwhelming.
You really can't meet him again? This story is so sad... thank you for sharing thou. I can see too many beuty on it too
chia ra i know how you feel , in a way. very beautiful..,
chia ra --I hope we dont only get one big love
I just experienced the same thing. We only had 2 days together as it ended yesterday. I feel like something is missing.
oh sweet youth, what a time, just before adulthood destroys all hope.
doug martsch is such an incredible artist, this shit is straight art.
My older brother had me listening to Modest Mouse, Built to Spill, Cursive, Bright Eyes, Okkervil River, Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Death Cab, and those bands from this time when I was just a little kid. I turn 28 tomorrow and this music really brings me back
Damn I'm 26 and didn't find them until I was about 15 or 16 and I thought it took ME back 😂
I do love hearing other people's experiences with my favorite music. I hope you and your brother are doing well
Funny you mention Modest Mouse, I think the two shared the same producer back in the day. I still have a Boise Cover Band CD that I bought at a Built to spill show in Boise many moons ago. Your older brother schooled you up well on the tunes.
im 42 now and have listened to built to spill since I was in middle school... thanks for all the great music
36 and I completely understand
I’m 42 and just discovered them today
@JSBselvas check out all the earlier albums you'll get into them for sure. each album is different in style but keeps the feel that only they've created. it's all pretty timeless.
@@JSBselvas Welcome!! Check out the song "Three Years Ago Today." Its fun and bouncy and will put you in a great mood and wanting more.
RIP Andy Capps. You are someone I'll never forget. God's speed.
Haven't heard this song in like 10 years and its still the best song ever. Its a roadtrip must!!
me too, long time without listen...
Pat Brown (bass player for Treepeople) @ 1:10 w/ the red shirt. Doug wrote “Pat” about him. RIP Pat
I haven’t heard this song in YEARS! But as soon as it started to play, the memories came flooding back of the dances I would make up for songs I loved. Including this one. I would’ve been a hit on Tik Tok if I were my kid’s age. 😂
Built to Spill songs build so beautifully. The greatest and maybe only indi jam band.
They have a really good flow
One my favourite things about BTS is Doug's guitar, which travels with him through every age.
bless ben, that guitars been through a lot.
Lol "BTS" 😂
@@queequee7104 what?
@@numerohvh Its because there's a more famous but newer band that is actually called "BTS." Its K-Pop.
@@havable i know, but I don't understand the laughing emoji comment
1:30 onwards gives me goosebumps every time.
Boise in the house. The inimitable voice of Doug Martsch. Great tune.
This video makes me miss my twenties, when life was about good friends and good music. Kelly, if you ever read this - this song will always make me think of you.
i have liked this song for a longer time than the time i lived before i ever heard this song
Me three.
me too
This comment makes zero sense.
Can you imagine liking a song for 60 years?
just hit that age lol
I miss old school indie rock music videos where it's basically just grainy 6mm footage of the band doing random shit.
I hear you.
Best genre of music video! Gold Soundz by Pavement, Wrong by Archers of Loaf are some other examples
Always has and always will be a special song.
Nostalgic song
Legendary band, started in the mid eightys, great songs, I feel they should be way more famous, they still Awsome though
@@misero6130 Prolly confusing 'em with Treepeople.
R.I.P. Andy
These barriers to life will finally lead you to a break through.
seemed like a great time to be alive and listen to this music near it's natal day
same
It ages like unopened Scotch for those with this type of taste
Its a Vintage
Every single era of music has comments like this on their message boards.
The common denominator: you hadn't yet been fucked into submission by the long dick of capitalism. Growing older shouldn't also mean you have to give up on your wonderment of the world and all the aspirations you have.
But that don't pay the bills now does it?
Sry for being Debbie downer. I actually come to music to make me feel good so I say this without a frown on my face. Stay up and one love ❤
@@grantprice4456 children in tribal cultures are also shielded from the realities of battle, warfare, privation, etc - it's not an arrangement unique to capitalism. I'm a socialist, a card carrying trade unionist, and someone who is committed to challenging the inequality we've got in our system. I'm also someone who thinks it's really fucking stupid, counterproductive, and even cruel to get on the internet and "well actually" someone who is finding joy in music. You're probably a good person with the best of intentions but you're also going out of your way to make someone else feel stupid for expressing an emotion, and if you can defend that with a straight face you've got problems that I can't solve
Lovely rithm!!!
This is the best song known to mankind.
Song is so underrated. Video too.. Love you guys
great, just great
A mostly forgotten indie classic. Love it.
Unforgettable. Its the first song I show people when turning them on to this band.
Ugh I love this so much
Awesome!
am happy. Supports this.
Brilliant!!!
YOU GET THE CAR I'LL BE STUCK AT WORK BECAUSE MY BOSS IS A JERK.
I wannaaaa see it naaawwww ❤❤❤
i really like this song
I met Doug at a tiny show... he's a such a sweet guy, I told him a terrible girl introduced me to his band. He laughed... :)
He is a super-sweet guy. We've lived in the same neighborhood for decades. He's the kind of person you'll run into when you're in a down mood and he'll drop whatever he's doing and try to salve your pain. This has happened to me more than once, personally, and I'm sure its happened to a lot of other Boiseans.
Not the same Doug she was talking about. that one isn't even IN a band.
car...built to spill.... master piece
Pasan los años.. Pasan.. Pero la buena música de la adolecencia queda.. Aún cuando pasaron 15 años..
hello future me. its been about a year since i have discoverd built to spill now. hope you're still listening to this song on sunny evenings
You get the car, I'll get the night off
You'll get the chance to take the world apart
And figure out how it works
Don't let me know what you find out
I need a car, you need a guide, who needs a map?
If I don't die or worse, I'm gonna need a nap
At best I'll be asleep when you get back
I wanna see it when you find out what comets, stars, and moons are all about
I wanna see their faces turn to backs of heads and slowly get smaller
I wanna see it now
I wanna see it now
I want specifics on the general idea
I wanna think what I should know
I want you to do me what to show
I wanna see the movies of my dreams
I wanna see the movies of my dreams
I wanna see the movies of my dreams
I wanna see the movies of my dreams
I wanna see it when you get stoned on a cloudy breezy desert afternoon
I wanna see it untame itself and break its owner
I wanna see it now
I wanna see it now
"you need a guide, who needs a map?"
You need a guy who needs a map. I think its tongue in cheek for navigator.
@@havablemy comment is 6y, thank you for replying, I forgot about this song 😢
I miss you Chris Takino.
Love this Song!!! Used to float to this People!!!
dug seems like a cool guy; he was nice enough to sign stuff and talk to me after the show
I've seen them five or six times over the last 15 years, and after EVERY SHOW, dug made the rounds and thanked everyone for coming. He's the real deal, man.
One of the best shows and nicest musicians I've ever met.
man, this fucking song is the best thing that ever happened to me
The audio compression on these videos is nuts.
True dat.
i like this song
Feels like coming home
cult cultre masterpiece, should get a run on a movie theater.
Grandissimi.
"Wow."
I WANT SPECIFICS ON THE GENERAL IDEA
This video clip is just cute as a button.
This looks like it could've been recorded yesterday
Fucking love these guys...
Omg brings me back to when I was 16 years old! 35 now! hehe

I fucking had an ad for preparation H before this video 😂 Magic.

Was this filmed in Olympia?
holy shit college was awesome
2021 .....
MY DAD SHOWED THIS SONG TO ME WHEN I WAS AT THE AGE 2 NOW IM 8
Beautiful...
Your dad is awesome!
Rest in peace Andy Capps
Very bright eyes in the chorus 🤙👌
Bright Eyes is very BTS. I met Conor when he was 15 and playing through my town. BTS had been around a good five years by then, at least. They're both great, but BTS is older.
@@havable i think you can think a band sounds like another regardless of who came first, guess its just a subjective/generational thing. For me bright eyes are the first band that i heard that did emotive happy/sad choruses but yeah aswome to know built to spill were doing that once too!
Whatever happened to Car part 2?
the song reminds me of the great film Until the End of the World by Wim Wenders (undisputed king of the road movie). It's about a man who is losing his sight and has stolen a machine that allows the user to watch movies of their dreams. He escapes to the Australian outback with the girl you will see in the following clip. Watch from 1:37 along with the song. So great! ruclips.net/video/8md8py8yVxY/видео.html
Saw this comment and immediately watched it, 4.47 hours long. A crazy genius masterpiece
I can't remember where I heard this song first. Is it from How I Met Your Mother or from other tv series or film?
maybe from a past life bro
Where did you hear this in How I Met Your Mother?
a girl i had a crush on looked at me and started singing this song. in that moment i knew true beauty.
Beatles style ❤️
The recipe book cook of eva thorvald bring me here :3
i bet boise was sick back then
Oh hell yes it was. House shows every week. Roughly 20-30 bands playing regular gigs between bars and basements. Its kinda always been this way though. In the previous era we had Dirt Fishermen, Treepeople, Caustic Resin, Methods of Dance, Vine, Psychic Knot, Sleestacks, Butterfly Train, and dozens and dozens more. Doug was in Treepeople which was the first rock show I saw as a teen. You can def get internet results of the first three I mentioned if you want to hear what it was like to be a teen in Boise in the 80s.
RiP Andy capps
Holy shit I think 1:31-1:47 is the BTS concert I attended back in 2012 or 2013 in Visalia, CA!🙀🤩 Still one of the best & most memorable shows I've ever seen. I love BTS as well as Doug Martsch's solo work! Things Never Shared & Stay from Doug's Now You Know album were both staples of my lovelorn musical diet after a couple of major break-up's lol. "This strange plan is random at best..." perfectly sums up the existential whimsy of our reality.
hedonist grrrl this music video is from the 90s lol
This music video is from 1994 lol
We all die. And that’s a good point
BUILT TO SPILL COME TO KNOXVILLE TENNESSEE!
SUPERDRAG COME TO BOISE IDAHO!
@@i_love_soup Its a great place to live but the rent is getting insane lately. One great benefit is getting to see BTS pretty regular, sometimes for free in someone's basement.
Brian Amberg It’s a joke. Superdrag is from Knoxville, so I flipped it.
