    I believe the Surf is a prototype specifically for SeaWorld and I don't see it going anywhere else
    However, there is a patent for a "sit down" version of this with two across seating, a launch, the articulated seats, basically a B&M Blitz
    That is the one that I can see really taking off
    Also, B&M has said at IAAPA they're not interested in swapping out these trains with the 1.0 stand up trains
    So to answer your question...This coaster is for SeaWorld Orlando lol
    Specifically, a market where novelty and uniqueness, as well as something for families is really what sticks out, the Orlando market.
    This coaster checks a lot of boxes and I think it will be a winner as SW continues to flesh out their line-up

    "Who is it for?"
    The GP. We all know. It is playing to B&M's strength of thrilling but not too intense. It's a unique ride too, and do to this model being more lower to the ground, and with shorter layouts, I don't see it being too expensive for B&M. Probably just slightly more expensive than their mini dives.
    I see it doing as well as their flyer if you exclude the Superman clones. So slightly more than half a dozen (for the stand up variation).
    I see atleast 1 other Sea park getting one (possibly 2). Likely a CF park. Then I can see China getting 2-4, and Europe 2-3.
    Which will put over 100 million in revenue into B&M.
    This is also not including the sit down version I could see being far, far more successful.

    I have a big nostalgia for Cobra at La Ronde. Yeah it was a bit rough and basically outclassed when the Batman clone opened next door but it was a very neat layout and an underrated piece of early B&M history.
    Based on that I'd say standup trains could be a viable way to inject some spice into an undersized looper

    • @atn_holdings
      @atn_holdings Год назад +1

      @@TheCycloneHunter it's way more complicated than that. It's listed as "built" by Intamin, but that would make it the 6th or 7th coaster that the company made overall, and it was "subcontracted" to Giovanolla, which is where the two guys Bolliger and Mabillard worked up until ... 1988, which is the year that this coaster was originally made. And the track is the Giovanolla design that B&M famously recuperated along with the 4-seat one-row car trains.
      You can't say it was "made" by either Intamin, Giovanolla, or B&M. It was that exact point in history where 2 of those companies were being reformed and reorganized into 2 other ones.

    If you've ever gotten airtime on a standup you'd understand, but I don't think you'll find it on the existing B&Ms. I just can't figure out if you'll get it on this either. The people in the animation are going up on their toes, but what if they lift their toes? And if they come off the floor, is it because of the seat or actual airtime? But the standing launch should be SWEET.
    The idea of standups, I think, was to get intensity with a smallish size ride, which this actually may. That's totally relevant to Six Flags and many others. This isn't the only new B&M showing they can work without the big(gest) bucks.

    Down at IAAPA this past fall I heard from a credible source that in order to help fine-tune the prototype ride experience for Pipeline, park officials requested that the surf coaster trains be tested on Mako at Sea World Orlando. These all happened during the overnight hours long after park close. A friend close to my credible source said that he actually was able to experience Mako with these trains, and said that the feeling of leaving the floor while maneuvering an airtime moment is straight-up freaky, and should definitely not be discounted. It sounds like B&M are somehow taking ‘airtime’ up a notch with this technology, which explains why they also filed a patent for a sit-down concept. Like just imagine for a second if you rode an airtime machine like Mako with these trains. So I am excited to try these trains out. We really don’t know what to expect. In my opinion this is B&M’s answer to the spinning / backwards facing cars that Mack has been producing for some of its existing coasters.

    In North America, I think you might be right. The SeaWorld parks kinda feel like the only natural home for this ride model.
    Especially as a "bare" coaster (minimal theming) the ceiling on this model feels pretty mid and the pricetag likely too high to justify it.
    However it still fixes the biggest problems with the standup coaster in my option:
    1. headbanging
    2. positive-g focused layouts.
    Hang-time and airtime while standing are both really fun and unnerving sensations (regardless of the altitude it occurs at) and launches make this model a lot more compatible with places like SWSD with their strict height limits. The vests also facilitate rapid lateral changes without the risk of headbanging. This model could deliver big thrills in a pretty moderate package with the right layout and/or theming (interaction).
    Because of this I suspect the Surf Coaster model will do better in Europe than it will in NA.
    I could see fairly small, but highly themed surf coasters at a park like Alton Towers or Phantasialand where it rides like parkour on rails through a themed village - and yes other models do that things really well too - but they already have those. And the standing element would add a different flavor to it.

So this would be a real novelty here and I could see a lot of park wanting to add this type of ride. I don’t see any other explanation to why B&M would build one of these if it wasn’t to appeal to a new market not one that already know stand ups and don’t want anything to do with it anymore…

The only people who have a problem with standing up on a coaster are people who skip leg day for their whole lives, and sit on their asses all day. • @sebastiannolte1201
      @sebastiannolte1201 Год назад

      Well, at the end it is all a matter of taste - I am more into airtime than inversions. However, I don't really see the development you describe. 20 years ago Hypercoasters (or let's say more general: coasters without inversions and more focus on airtime) became famous. But there was usually a hard distinction between hypers and loopers. And especially B&M keeps that distinction, by having coasters with OTSRs and many inversions, OR just lap bars without inversions. And I don't like OTSRs, which is a reason why I never was a real fan of coasters with inversions. And I find typical inversion coasters "boring", that are just one inversion after another.
      But in the last year coasters are getting more interesting to me (and not all the same - having a typical looping coaster that is just Drop-loop-Cobra roll-zerog roll-loop-end is all the same), when you see how for example Intamin, Mack or RMC dissolve the border between hyper/airtime and inversions, by haveing coasters with only lap bars, air time but also inversions and other fun elements. Riding Blue Fire the first time (I know that enthusiast will say that it is too tame) brought back the fun of coasters with inversions for me. Because only lap bars, and inversions as a special elements.
      And I don't see how hypers are generelly tamer than coasters with inversions.

I kind of hope this does flop so B&M changes direction into something actually exciting. Also calling it now, the restraints on this are going to be uncomfortable. From the renders it looks like there is essentially just a small seat the goes under your crotch and bounces up and down. It's going to be uncomfortable for someone.

    i really think this is just a ride concept tailored to the gp instead of enthusiasts; while it might not be impressive or desireable from an enthusiast viewpoint, i don't know if the parks really think about that very much; enthusiasts are likely only a fraction of the parks' total attendance numbers, with most of the rest being gp. even so, i don't know who else might get one of these, but there could be some international parks that might see the value in this

    Yeah we're all trying to see... will this be a success or flop?? Only time will tell. They just need to move into selling more launch coasters and creating new elements... so much potential there. Dont over complicating this! So many B&Ms at the top cedar fair parks now. There's just better launch options out there to bring in the guests.

    Could the bouncing seats amplify the air time? That is literally the only reason I can think of for the design of this bizarre boring looking coaster

    If the artic rescue addition wasn't useless enough in terms of coaster line up for sea world san diego another (blue)-family-launch-coaster would be absolutely stupid, especially in a park where the stand out attraction is a dive coaster?? They need a true stand out ride instead of another family launch.

    I'm a minority that likes stand up coasters and I think the new surf coaster will actually be worse. Stand ups require you to be in a good spot to be comfortable. I don't want to be bouncing up and down on a bicycle seat. Also I can marathon riddler over wonder woman. The seats on wonder woman spread my legs too much causing cramping/pain in my hips.

    B&M panicked . that's all. with RMC and Intamin stealing the market B&M realised they just aren't getting as many sales. B&M's whole model is being the thing you can always count on to be good. every B&M to thing point has the same style track, same 4 across trains unless its a dive (wing still have 4 across). but now intamin has found their groove and RMC is hyped. plus every park in America has at least 3 B&M coasters. their only way to stay current in the US is too abandon their model and do different stuff. they wouldn't do this if they were not worried about the up and coming companys around them. B&M had to try something different if its a success they can stay in US if it falls they are forced to go overseas and probably have a few cheaper models

    In the US, I just don't see anyone buying this besides SeaWorld. Hopefully Orlando is planning a major coaster for 2025 or 2026 because three basic filler coasters in a row isn't going to bring people to the park. Like Ice Breaker never has a line, at all. I was there on the fourth of July when every ride was 60+ minutes and every show was packed and Ice Breaker was a station wait all day. I don't think building all of these small coasters is going to up the attendance like they think it is. I would think that SeaWorld execs would understand that but it wouldn't surprise me if they don't.

      @Brandon-qd2lb Год назад

      They needed to round out the park in between the major thrills and the kids coaster... they know what they're doing. They don't have to room there for 8 huge coasters. Ice breaker does draw a line it's just later in the day.

    • @steveniglesias2508
      @steveniglesias2508 Год назад

      @@Brandon-qd2lb I understand they need the more complete line up but I'm just saying that these small additions won't equate to increased attendance. They will definitely help with capacity if a big addition draws in more people.

    Yup, surf coaster js going to be a flop in the long term and I like standups.. Well, riddlers anyway..its better than wonderwoman in my opinion, also think the bounce will just be combination of seats to low and seats to high situation..wait til someone thats scared locks their knees out and the seat compresses in positve G's and they blow a knee...you heard it here 1st
