    Gotta tell y’all..my husband recently bought a tiny convertible sports car…and after half-way thru our first extended ride out in the country….my eyes were a mess!! Even though I wear heavy duty wrap-around old lady sunglasses, the wind factor whipped the fluids right out of my eyes! Luckily I had generic drops with me, but had to spend most of the ride home with eyes closed and not enjoying the beautiful mountain scenery (oh, what greenery!) So - lesson learned!

    • @Andrew-nq6in
      @Andrew-nq6in 6 дней назад

      I know exactly how you feel! I hike every chance I can in the mountains and the wind just dries my eyes out and I get so bloodshot afterwards. Wrap around sunglasses barely help. I am looking at wearing ski goggles for hiking in winter and more of a subtle goggle come summer. Best of luck on your end!

    I'm having dry eyes for the last few months. It's getting better now. None of the eye drops (Systane, homeopathy) worked for me. It's in the nutrition- Omega 3's & 6's. I ate cage free 10 eggs made with butter every week for few weeks. Also, consumed sesame seeds & hot cocoa every day. Blurriness is going away. You will have to give few weeks before you see the effects of nutritional foods.

Organic cage free eggs taste much better than the regular ones. I have some horrendous dry eye symptoms. I tried washing my eyes with diluted baby shampoo but it a dried my lids and lashes out making a itching and symptoms worse. I have found that collodial oatmeal well rubbed into a soft damp washcloth works well to clean my eyes without drying my lids and lashes out. I have since discovered Garnier micellar water with glycerin and rosewater. It is also a good in between washes way to get rid of grit and dirt on the eyelids and lashes. Please note: this product is not meant to be used in the eyes.
    I use Refresh liquigel and Refresh gel drops they give better release than most eye drops. Both of these drops are much less expensive on Amazon. Blue light blocking glasses help me when I have to expose my eyes to light.
    I use a humidifier.
    Unfortunately I have had to give up reading and TV and limit my phone exposure severely.
    I hope this information can help somebody.

    Many, many thanks to you, Dr Chua! I followed your video, I applied your guidelines and my dry eyes syndrome is much better now. I'm from Europe and I appreciate it as being better medical advice than in my country even from an oftalmologie hospital.
    My syndrome was very severe, it took a few months
    to be better. Now I can read books again as it is my passion.
    Indeed Systane, the mask twice daily and the massage only in the evening work fantastic. I use 3 different types of drops plus an oftalmologic cream with vit A in the evening after the mask and the massage and in the morning (but in a smaller quantity and without massage). The nr of drops application dropped from 20 times daily to 5-6 times.
    God bless you!

  • @aprildegele1510
    @aprildegele1510 11 месяцев назад

    This was extremely helpful!
    I have had my puncts dilated in the past for my dry eye. That helped for a long while. On my last appointment earlier this month, my doc kind of ignored that. I'm not sure why. However, what we did address is something that looked like a pimple on the inner, lower lid of my left eye, which I thought was going to be a stye, but never matured. My left eye is chronically dry and irritated.
    On eval, he said it was a plugged Meibomian gland. Recommended warm packs, but because I am a retired ER nurse and understand how warm compresses work on such things, I didn't ask for the details. I expected that it would bust open eventually, but it hasn't. He didn't tell me about the massaging. THAT will change things a lot.
    I use Systane and have for several years. You wouldn't think there would be much difference between eye drops, name brand or generic with the same ingredients, but there is. I've found it to be the best. I've not tried the one you suggest though, and I think I will.
    You call it affordable, but that's relative. At most pharmacies, it's over $15 a bottle. You can get a generic version for much less ... but I've not found (yet) a generic version of the drops you suggest.
    I have Systane gel, as well as a version of lacrilube (my husband's because he has a tendency to sleep with his eyes slightly open), but those aren't practical for mid-day use unless you have an hour or so that you don't have to do anything. Leaves a film that, although gloriously comfortable, renders good vision moot until it disperses.
    Have you made a video about punct dilation? Genetically, I have very small ones, as does my sister. Is there some way to keep them clear and working without them having to be dilated? Hasn't been a problem until we were just over 40.

      Ok I would like to report to everyone and the doctor that I received my aroma season eye warming device. I started using it on the next to the highest setting which they do not give you the temperature for. I’m gonna have to call the company to find out that warm but not too hot 10 minutes. I used it three days in a row once a day. The reason I did 10 minutes was because I wanted to see if using it for less time would give me a result. Well, it certainly did.! it’s been a week since then and I’m not using it and my eyes are perfect ! No running , no redness, no discomfort. I’m waiting to see how long I can go without repeating the heating and massage. So it took less time for me to be able to heal my eye for now because as we know dry eye can come and go. very happy and could not get this help for two years from my own eye doctor or anyone else that was in the practice thank goodness for people who take the time to put their knowledge out for the rest of us.!!! I will report back to let people know if it comes back but now I know if it does that I have a protocol to follow that’s effective and fast thank you again!!!

    I want to add to this list of drops. AT THIS TIME, been on cequa rx. Drops 2x’s a day, Tyrvaya nasal spray rx 2x day, Optase OTC drops and lid cleanses PRN, I have tried almost all of them it seems. Optase has been best OTC for me. Definitely PF. Stay away from preservatives and especially BAK. Read labels. I personally can’t use retinol, very limited skincare and no makeup on eye’s especially. At my age I need something. Because of all of this craziness, my self esteem is on the ground. Watch all eye clinics. Now most are including aesthetics in their practices. Very costly. Be mindful of EVERYTHING you use on your face. In my case, it hurts in every way. Education is key and you have to be your own advocate for your self. I’m finding this in all areas of medicine.

    THANK YOU, Dr. Chua! I am completely overwhelmed by trying to decide what drops, regimen, etc. is right for me. I feel like I've tried EVERYTHING. My opthalmologist seems a bit dismissive (" It's one of those, 'my eyes are getting older' things"). I'm 72, but, it affects the quality of my life; so much discomfort. I wore contacts for many years and had cataract surgery six years ago. I will watch this entire video..thank you SO MUCH for this and for your caring, compassionate manner. So comforting.

      I just ordered the iTear device. My eye doctor wrote an Rx for me. It’s arriving in a couple of days and I pray it will work for me. It increases tear production by stimulating a nerve for 30 seconds (on each side of the nose) twice a day.

    Stop washing your eyes and face with tap water. I kept having and eye infection and eyes so dry I was using drops 4 to 6 times a day. It dawned on me one morning to NOT use tap water to wash my eyes and face. I bought distilled water and began washing my eyes and face morning and night. In just two days my eyes were greatly improved. I also noticed the skin on my face was greatly improved, no longer dry. I don't need eye drops a more. Sometimes the solution is simple!

    The only thing I don't understand is how does the solution form the three layers over the eye if it has been mixed? I assume they also use some emulsifier to make the oil and water mix, so it's difficult for me to visualise the mechanics of action. But finally, Systane Complete is available to buy in the UK, and I started using it. Hopefully, it will bring some relief!

    I was prescribed Systane drops, but that was when the eye drops recalls happened. Was too scared to get, got theratears, i have severe medical trauma with eye drops, and found even with the fingertip applicator or “Aimer” it was nearly impossible and incredibly stressful. Anything coming near my eyes makes me scared and flinch.
    Last time an eye doctor wanted to do eye drops on me, I was lightly crying in anticipation and was told it wasn’t worth it to do them.
    I’m not sure how to get over it. I would like to be free of dry eyes but being held down and have burning eye drops put in me as a child has really messed up my body and minds relationship with such.
    Even those eye plugs look alluring, but they don’t knock you out for the procedure, and I don’t want sharp tools near my eyes

    When looking at drugstore products I go for the big names in pharma. No cheaper off shore brands . I've used those disposable drops and they're fine. Now I'm using blink and its fine too. I've used systane and its good too. I'm pretty sure that if I pay attention to drinking enough water every day, I dont notice dry eyes so much. Maybe its connected, I dont know. One thing I do not want to do is use anything made in India. I read a book about generic drugs, many, maybe most made in India. A German tv producer went to the neighborhood where these generic manuf were and the water near those buildings was filthy.

      May I ask whether you got them on the bottom or the top? I got the tear plugs on the bottom and it felt very helpful for about three days. It still has helped a little bit, but I would much prefer a stronger effect and I’ve heard that the upper ones actually block more tear evaporation.
      Sidenote - part of the reason for the exacerbation of my dry discomfort is because I work in an office with space heaters, which blast out hot air instead of a more central or radiator type heater. I can’t really change that, but I would love to know more about whether upper tear duct plugging is more helpful than lower.
