Hi
13 years of severe dry eye and numerous doc visits w no relief...you have helped me reduce symptoms dramatically!
No info from eye docs about diet, only eyedrops.
Thanks for the huge help you've been!!
I feel like a new person thanks to you!
OMG this is such an amazing comment! Thank you Teresa! So happy to hear you are finding some relief!
I know what you mean. After finding out about this channel, I walk around with a different confidence. Dry eye sucks!!!!
My doctor does not tell me anything. I ask him what can I do, he prescribed me eye drops and told me to use warm compresses twice a day.
Thank you doctor for the nice information you shared
@@DoctorEyeHealth at 10:40 you mention algi derived Omega 3s. What are the best forms of Algi, and where does it best grow, please?
I have been eating pineapple for 30 days for floater removal and guess what. The floaters are not gone. The pineapple seller is very happy though.
most floaters are embedded debris from say metal grinding, weed whipping, wood sanding, paint removal abrasives, automotive or nonwater based paint. most of mine are sand type rocks or metal.
other floater are damaged tissue from the above for mentioned that scarred where they contacted the tissue.
nothing gets rid of those. my dad had a piece of slag weld that got into his eye while grinding right from under his eye protection as it bounced off his chest, and the eye doctor used real powerful magnets and it only worked on the bigger pieces.
@@aprilgeneric8027 thanks for the reply.
@@aprilgeneric8027 i thought some floaters were from the aging process of the gel behind the eye ??? you are saying it's foreign bodies ??
I don't know why it didn't work for you ,it works for me ,I ate , drank ,stir fried saute
@@ThuyNguyen-ec1rb Oh wonderful to hear that. Happy it works for some people. I am eating a bowel of pineapples each day for over thirty days. Still have the two prominent floater in each eye.
I used to suffer from Blepharitis. When I stopped eating dairy, gluten, and eggs it went away. I now eat what is called Whole Food Plant Based. Before I started eating like this 100%, if I cheated, I had crusty eyelids the next day. Now I never have the problem. I mentioned it to my doctor, as I had been told there was no cure. They did not know any connection with food. It took a little time to relearn how to eat, but is it totally worth it. Thank you for doing this video.
@@suemahoney7330 Thanks for the comment. Sad so many doctors are not interested in curing you, but love insurance money they receive. Food has everything to do with our health and that is why there are so many unhealthy people. Glad to hear of your success.🙂
This is such a great video. Thank you for providing options for those of us who don’t eat animal products. I so appreciate a Dr who actually provides info on how to prevent health problems!! Most Drs just want to hand a prescription and not talk about prevention measures/lifestyle changes that can help.
Wow Josie! Thank you so much for saying that. I know it can be tough in the clinic, with only a few minutes with each patient, and in a world where the established health care industry is so focused on prescribe prescribe prescribe. But true preventative care falls on lifestyle. Hope to have more similar content soon.
Thanks so much I have been in pain

I just watched your video on dry eyes, and it was so helpful and informative! As someone who suffers from dry eyes, I really appreciate you explaining the available treatments. My doctor recommended Optase eye drops, and I also purchased a moist heat eye mask and eyelid cleansing wipes thanks to your advice. I've been trying to follow a Mediterranean diet like you suggested as well.
Speaking of diet, I actually have some helpful knowledge myself that has helped me fight against overweight, and I would love to share it with your viewers. On a personal note, I've added a few things to my diet from your knowledge and while I can't say for certain if anything has changed or gotten better, I haven't had any issues aside from one floater. Everything still feels great and I feel good overall. Thanks again for the great video!
Thank you! Your expertise is highly appreciated.

One of the main reason of dry eye is MCAS induced inflammation, adopting anti histamine diet is best approach for dry eye
I've been watching your channel the past few days regarding dry eye. I had LASIK in the summer of 2021 after wearing glasses for the first 30 or so years of my life. The first 6 months I had no real problems but suddenly I had some chronic dry eye pop up. Making me feel tired all the time and seemed like no matter how much I slept, I was constantly tired which really halted my day to day life. I've gone through a good half dozen of various eye drops and didn't seem to work as well as plug treatment at my optomitrist and warm compresses. I went ahead and ordered myself a humidifier (which I set up last night), some eye ointments, and some plant based Omega 3 supplements today in hopes they'll help. I just wanted to say thank you for all your great advice ❤
How you feel after your New habits ? Thks
@@sabrinanina7747 This Saturday will mark 3 weeks of taking the Omega 3, 6, & 9 supplement I’m currently taking. Today is oddly enough the first day I’ve been able to not wake up last minute before I went to work in months. So I’m hoping this is a sign that they are working!
@@ForbiddenFoodTVhow r you now?
Me also having dry eye problem 5 months after lasik..it started suddenly ..very irritating and upsetting
@@servantofallah6872 I've been taking an Omega Blend (3, 6 & 9) and I'm not sure I've seen any major effects. I'm going to try increasing my dose and see if that helps. I'm wondering if the blend isn't providing enough Omega 3s standalone.
My routine for dry eyes that has worked so far.
Go in the shower with warm water and let the water hit my eyes for a good 30 seconds. Then use the eye scrubs for 30 seconds on each eye but make sure I get in there and try to clean the lids. Rinse another 30 seconds.
Get out of the shower and add one eye drop on each eye (preservative free).
Then after I get out of work I wash my face and then use my warm compress for my eyes for 20 minutes. Right after the compress is done, I massage the lids by trying to "squeeze" the tears up to the lids. I saw a video online of a sample of how to do it.
I also avoid dairy foods and fast foods. I should be avoiding alcohol but trying to cut back because I notice these 3 things would make my eyes dry
So you only use PF eye drops once a day? You have very mild dry eyes then. Lucky
@May N I put them at night before I go to sleep also. It used be horrible. I would get dry eyes 2 weeks per month but I would never know about ways to do anything about it. I had dry eyes without doing anything about it for over 3 years. I noticed if eye drops weren't PF that the dry eyes would get worse
There is a supplement called Tear Support with Maquibright that I use it helps it’s made by Life Extension
Sounds brutal...
scrubbing etc
Is the water even safe to drink?
In some places it might be.
@Drew_Hurst I ended up getting the IPL procedure done, along with the radio frequency treatment. I no longer use eye drops, but I make sure to still scrub my eyes every time I shower. I close my eyes while scrubbing, so no water goes into my eyes at all.
My doctor told me to use eye drops without preservatives. She didn't mention anything about changing my diet
Thanks for the information.
The not using preservatives is a good tip too
Drinking water during meals are not conducive to the digestion process.
20 minutes before or after is a better suggestion.
If you do drink during meals it should be warm, like green tea
I loved pretty much everything you said in the first half. I have eaten Whole Food Plant Based for 12 years now. No meat, dairy, fish or animal products of any kind. I permanently lost 120 pounds, my high blood pressure, high cholesterol and Diabetes are all gone. I get plenty of Omega 3's from Flax and Chia Seeds so no fish needed. An issue with eating fish is that not only is it meat, but given that our oceans are full of poisons that humans dump into the rivers wind up in the ocean, and the little fishes ingest a lot of these chemicals, like mercury in Tuna, not limited to Mercury or Tuna however. Consider the issue of Bio Accumulation where the whole food chain of fish eating the smaller fish and all those poison wind up in those Tuna and Salmon. Do your due diligence. I suggest you go on with Chef AJ who would be very receptive to your expertise. Totally a good idea. I note my eye prescription improved in the last 12 years. No longer have to wear glasses to drive! Love your message.
Oceans are cleaner than the land we occupy. Also, meat and fish products are routinely used as fertilizer, so you are eating meat in your cereal.
Amazing!!! Thank you so much for sharing this! I think it wise to be aware of what is happening to the oceans too. Our diets play such a huge role the environment and even global warming.
I am so happy you are here Dr. You are wonderful to listen to.
I know I've definitely added a few things to my diet from your knowledge. Can't say for certain if anything ever changed or got better but I never struggled much outside of one floater but, what I can say is nothing got worse and nothing came out of no where. Everything still feels great and I feel good too over all.
do you still have the floater? i've had one for 3 months, remains the same. Did yours go away?
@@pamelajackson2383 It's still there but I barely notice it unless I try and find it.
My eye doc just said, "That's good" when I told him my A1c went from 6.7 to 5.7 in 3 months. Still referred to a specialist for cataract surgery. Prefer to put that off for another 6 months
Oh... This is such a helpful, informative and extensive vid regarding dry eyes. Thank you for explaining the treatments.
Thank you for this superb educational and informative video on eye floaters -- delivered by such a knowledgeable and talented doctor. I have seen other presentations by this doctor and am impressed beyond description. I wish I had seen this and all other videos prior to my recent successful cataract removal procedures in both of my eyes. These are a "must see." Dr. Eye Health is wonderful!!
Very informative! I’ve been using a combination of Nordic Naturals Fish oil caps and Algae caps, Systane Ultra preservative free drops and Bruder warm compresses with good results. I also eat salmon on a regular basis. I discovered as I’m aging I need to increase the amount of fish oil I take. I’m in my mid 60’s
Thank you for sharing. I am 72 and just learning this. What you shared is encouraging and appreciated. Thank you.
Looking forward to your in depth video on fish oil/omega supplements! I will eat any vegetable you tell me to, but I just can’t do fish of any kind 🤢
Great video. I also watch a few other doctors who are open to such “ crazy” ideas that yes, nutrition matters for our health lol.
Also don’t be vexed by the naysavers. Of course you are giving your opinion/ research for who wants to listen, if it’s not for everyone well nobody’s forcing them to take it .
Hey I appreciate that! Thank you
This is such a helpful, informative and extensive vid regarding dry eyes, which I have. Thank you for explaining the treatments available in this live version. Per my doctor, she suggested Optase eye drops. You have been instrumental in my purchasing a moist heat eye mask as well as eyelid cleansing wipes. I also try to eat a Mediterranean diet as you suggest. Appreciate all you said.
Thank you so much! Very happy to hear all this. How are you liking the Optase drops?
Honored that you replied. Thank you so much! Optase drops seem to be helping. I also use Systane night gel and Systane Complete occasionally. Systane was recommended by my former optometrist as you have, but my new one suggested a Optase (which I had never heard of). Although I still experience occasional pain, it is alleviated with these two brands plus all the helpful advice you have provided. Appreciate your reply and for all you do because you have helped me immensely. You are the best!
Please watch seaspiracy and go vegan rather than just Mediterranean. There are vegan omega3 that you can get.
Which eye drops are best for dry eyes
I’m just catching your video here. I have worked with my eye doctor. But they have never talked to me about diet or various treatments. I’ve sent your various RUclips to my doctor. They have tried something’s such as various medications, treatments and finally the stem cell treatment.
My problem is from palsy/ nerve damage to the left side of my face. My doctor did put a metal implant but my eye still doesn’t close all the way.
I have bought the various products you have suggested. But I’m still struggling with dry eye. Vision is very limited. So I will continue to watch your videos.
I wish I lived in your area. I’d love to be your patient.
Wow thank you for sharing some of your story here. Sounds like you do have a rather challenging case. Do you also have neurotrophic problems due to the nerve damage?
The dryness due to exposure can be very challenging. In my opinion, taking supplements can be helpful but may not make a big enough difference when there is exposure/eyelid closure problems going on. Hope you can find some success quickly.
@@DoctorEyeHealth I saw a neurologist for my eye and he said it was fine. Can you tell me which omega 3 pills are good. I’m confused from your videos. Thank you.
My glands on the lower lids are pretty messed up due to wearing contacts for years. My doctor has never talked about diet - just heat, massage, drops and medical intervention. I noticed that when I stopped taking fish oil, my dry eye symptoms got worse. When I mentioned this to the eye clinic assistant, she said that they are big fans of fish oil. No other info along those lines, though.
Any recommendations for dealing with dry eyes and swelling related to Rheumatoid Arthritis ? Thanks
I have had dry eyes for decades and was recently diagnosed with VPD. The price of eye drops is prohibitive when you've used them forever, so I rinse my eyes several times a day with saline. Do I need to worry about the saline, or is that okay?
Love mackerel and sardines in extra virgin oil and I take cod liver oil supplement. I am also going to add super enzymes
what do you mean by super enzymes?
@@DoctorEyeHealth it is a supplement from Now that breaks down fats, carbs and protein to support digestion and help with floaters because I have dry eyes, floaters and double vision.
Please watch seaspiracy and consider taking vegan omega 3 supplements made from sea plants. Those fish victims get their omega 3 by eating plants so why are we killing 2 Trillian sea animals a year for no reason? Flesh foods are always laden with saturated fat which are not healthy and we have polluted the ocean so much that most sea animals suffer from heavy metal contamination - and many mysterious ailments are linked to mercury poisoning
Could you do a video on medications, supplements, and toxicities that cause dry eye?
Also, could mold/cirs cause dry eye because it increases mmp9?
Thank you ❤️ This is very educational for me
Had dry eye issues for 4-5 years. I've tried half a dozen different drops, no help. Some actually irritated them more. I also am extremely sensitive to sunlight or bright lights. Been to several eye doctors with limited help. Unfortunately the diet tips don't help me a lot. Hate fish, nuts gives me fever blisters and not big on fruits or veggies. I'm screwed
Similasan eye drops are the best. Eyebright in some of them. I suck up castor oil, colloidal silver up inside for added benefits. Rub castor oil on eyelids and the rest of your face and neck. Youful you
Hey, thanks for the tips, looking forward to your video about supplements. I've been taking the brand Aqua Omega and in the vegan version, and my eyes are less dry but still dry. I would also like to hear your opinion about grapeseed supplements, its said they help with night vision and protect mouse retinol cells from aging too
Same here. Vegan Aqua Omega or NutraVege brand. My eye Dr recently told me I should double my dosage because of my severe dry eyes (due to Sjögren’s Syndrome) seems to be be helping. It’s definitely a user error issue if it’s not helping because sometimes I forget to take it twice a day lol.
Castor oil on eyelids at night and nac drops

Sardines in olive oil is one of the most nutrient dense foods
Please watch SEASPIRACY. we really should stay away from killing so many sea animals. We can get better nutrients if we stay away from eating sea animals too as we have polluted the ocean so much that most fish have heavy metal contamination

Unfortunately, there is no professional peer-supported research supporting a more vegetarian diet for anything. There are many Meteraian diets - some have a lot of meat some less. To reverse diabetes, which is the major cause of eyesight loss - the diet is Keto.
Thak you for this information. My eye doctors haven't talked about nutrition. I have dry eye and was also just diagnosed with macula degeneration. It's good that I can help this with nutrition.
I don't eat fish but I take fish oil. I also occasionally have organic spirulina smoothies. Is that good Dr.?
Thank you doc for the helpful vlog.Godbless
Thank you!! And same to you!
And what meds, prescriptions, or supplements can be making out eyes too dry? I'm questioning antihistamines or antidepressants..??
Really good question! I should do a video on all those. Yes, antihistamines and antidepressants are both known to cause more dry eye, same with medications for high blood pressure. Also acne treatments.
Catching on a replay. I was told I have dry eyes. No explanation from the doctor only a prescription for eye drops for the rest of my life. I asked about supplements but they did not provide a good answer. Thank you for being here.

Thanks so much. Info very helpful. I have TED and anti -inflammatory diet has been recommended. Just haven’t switched yet. You are very good at educating and the info always very helpful.
i find psylum husk when baking give you good increase of dietary fibre and you really don't need much another thing i love in my diet for vitamin D and a load of B vitamins is mushrooms which is really good. but you need to put them out in a sunny window to increase the vitamin D in the mushrooms as they tend to grow them in the dark, i remember from University that is a common practice for mushroom growing.
I love mushrooms too! Also there is some good support for Vit D for dry eyes too.
Very good but need a condensed version. Will have to come back to this later.

I have definitely changed my diet last year but still have severe dry eye been doing warm compresses and putting artificial tears, and restasis drops, but I think it's time for me to talk to my doctor again about treatments I've tried many hopefully I find one that will make me get my life back
Hope you can find some help and get some relief!
I love all the kind of fish you have mentioned ,I am Asian we eat more than meat because we are poor ,thank you Dr
Please watch seaspiracy and consider not eating sea animals. The ocean is also filled with pollution and fish flesh is contaminated with heavy metals. Consider eating sea plants instead

Hello Dr. Allen, well I am amazed at the wealth of information you are providing, especially on nutrition. (Please let me say that I have hardly EVER heard anything about nutrition from any medical professional, and I am elderly. In fact, there really seems to be no effect of nutrition on health, apparently.) So, you are a breath of fresh air and I am listening to you. Thank you so much.

Great channel! Cool dude. I don't suffer from dry eye, but thank you for giving people hope.
Do you have an opinion though about avocado oil? I take a couple big spoons every day in addition to cooking with olive oil, and taking fish oil and flax seed oil caps.
I like the taste of avocado oil; it reminds me of sunflower seeds.
sardines, herring, tuna, salmon, kippers
Yep similar to eat for everything else but you are so good at making it seem more desirable to eat these things

I had a brain tumor removed about 6 years ago. No radiation or chemo, just surgery.
A few years prior to that, my opthalmologist said she could see a fuzzy area near the center of both retinae. Fast forward 5 years and now my right eye (the brain tumor was on my right side, ate up my vestibularcochlear nerve) and the vision in my right eye is very blurry, but only sometimes. Could it be related to the brain tumor, or am I having issues because of my fuzzy retina? I just had a fasting lab, glucose was at 124 😬 Following the advice at Laird Wellness and other places, I am being more diligent with my diet. You CAN reverse diabetes!! You CAN get your islets of Langerhans to return!! You CAN get your pancreas's beta cells to re-express after they've "given up" and turned into alpha cells 🤯 I'm no expert but I've read enough to know that I think I'm headed in the right direction 🙏 Thank you for the info, gonna sub to your channel

In fact, dry eye can't be a sole problem. What about the liver and the skin at all? what about guts and GI as a whole - sugar, insulin, microbiome, stomach? what about thyroid gland and hypophyse, electrolytes etc.?
And then, what about DE in children, in adults, in seniors?
In different professions?
And what meds, prescriptions, or supplements can be making out eyes too dry? I'm questioning antihistamines or antidepressants..??
I not only have dry eyes but see an ophthalmologist twice a year and a retina specialist and have only been told to buy over the counter tear drops. Not once has anyone told me about diet.
Doctor, I have a question at the end of mansoon season mostly August - starting of October there is constant irritation happens in my eyes and because of that white thread comes out from my eyes and if I take them out it again cause itching in the eyes and if I rub them my eyes turn red. Because of irritation and itching I can't even study properly. Once I consult with the homeopathy doctor and he told me that the cause of this irritation and itching is my high body temperature he prohibited my drinking aur eating any types of spices and strictly told me to not to eat something that increases my body heat. Please tell me what I can do to remove this problem. I am starting to face this problem at 18th year right now I m 21 years old. Please give me some suggestions for this.
I did a Spartan race in 2013 and one of the events involved going under a fence from one side to the other in muddy water. When I came up there was muddy water in my eyes and I had to quickly yank my contacts out. Luckily there was a water station right after that event. I rinsed my contacts off with fresh drinking water then stuck them in my mouth before placing in my eyes. I really had no other choice because my vision is -3.75 and -3.25 and was literally out in the woods. Luckily I didn't have any adverse reactions. My best friend called me a "beast" for doing that. I finished the race to say the least 😂
