See an Opthalmologist about putting tear plugs in your tear ducts. I also suffered from dry eyes after lasik and ruined my life for a few months until I started seeing different Opthalmologists and finally got my tear ducts plugged. It was quick and not painful. I still use tear drops but nothing like before where I couldn’t keep my eyes open.

I couldn't stand the eye plugs. I took them out myself. 😊
But I have Sjogren's syndrome and found primarily drinking water and very little else, helps immensely.
Plus use very viscous eye drops, then at night time, tell me when you are ready for sleep, drink water, use your eye drops, and then apply a layer of ointment.
      It really helps.
PS Has anyone tried Low Naltrexone (LDN) for their autoimmune diseases? It helps the body to regain homeostasis.

I’m 67, have rheumatoid arthritis and severe dry eyes-no tears. I haven’t been able to produce any measurable tears in over 10 years! However it doesn’t really affect my life too much. I can’t sit under a ceiling fan and the a/c in the car needs to be directed away from my eyes. They dry me out. Warm compresses help and preservative free drops. I would like to have a good cry with tears again! That bothers me most. 😢

I had worsening dry eye to the point where I could no longer wear contact lenses for more than a couple hours. I switched to glasses but decided to get Lasik before the dry eye got any worse so there wouldnt be complications healing from the surgery. I have spent thousands of dollars on both prescription and nonprescription eye drops but I attribute the gradual improvement to change in diet. I also suffered from stomach problems and then Reynaud's. Cutting out all simple carbs and processed food combined with adding in cod liver oil, fresh and frozen berries, cooked cruciferous vegetables and salad with olive oil has improved all of my symptoms. A radical change in diet can take months for the gut to adapt to (mine did) but my dry eye is 50% better than a year ago and I think it's still improving because my GI issues are still improving. If you are suffering from dry, scratchy eyes, assess your diet and start replacing as many processed foods as possible with fresh fruits and/or veggies and commit to it for 3 months. No packaged snacks. Eat salmon at least once per week for dinner. See if your dry eye doesn't show some improvement.

I'm amazed at how your dry eye managed to improve even though you had Lasik.
I had PRK a year ago which is supposed to be better in this regard and didn't have dry eye prior to surgery.
I now have severe dry eye and nothing has helped so far. My TBUT is 2s and my schirmer is 2mm.
My last hope are the autologous serum tears.
I'd suggest anyone who already has dry eye to just switch to glasses and avoid refractive surgery at all costs.

I have severe dry eye. I was on Tyrvaya for a couple years and really liked it. I started on Miebo four months ago, and it has been a HUGE help. My dry eyes is due to having used Accutane about 35 years ago. Miebo works by reducing the evaporation of tears, and it is the first eye drop to work in this way. Miebo costs $834/month, by prescription in the U.S., but Europe has a product called EvoTears ($17/month) that is over the counter and is the same as Miebo. I met with my eye doctor today and she said EvoTears would be fine to use in place of Miebo, as it doesn't have any preservatives.
p.s. I started having sinus headaches with Tyrvaya a couple months before I started on EvoTears. I've been off Tyrvaya for a month, since EvoTears is working so well for me and I will probably stay off it.

You get fluid accumulation in the cornea, blurred vision, and dry eye with watering. He told me to use a particular ointment (OTC) and Systane Complete PE no preservatives. I’ve been using for a couple of weeks, and it is working for me! Vision is better and tearing has greatly diminished. Dry eye discomfort is also better. Get your eyes checked for Fuchs!!!

I keep hearing about this, but nobody will say exactly how to do it because most doctors will tell you it’s not safe. I drop a drop onto a freshly washed hand, squint my eye very narrow, and wipe the drop across the narrow opening in my eyelid and then blink a lot. I end up getting a very heavy and sticky sensation on my eye that blurs my vision, so after blinking for a minute I’ll put a drop of Systane Ultra which helps clear the sensation and prevent watery/burning that a lot of people say happens when you put pure castor oil on the eye. I also only do it at night before sleeping because it’s hard to focus my eyes with the oil. I find that this will relieve my dry eyes for the next day, and the day after that but if I don’t put castor oil again the night of the 2nd day then my eyes will get unbearably watery and dry the 3rd day.

When I went to the eye doctor, the last time, they can see where I have numerous corneal abrasions. I suppose this is because I have to make myself blink. It’s not a reflex, even when someone put something near my eye. I've had dry eyes for years and years. I saw my optometrist 2 weeks ago and found out that now have cornea abrasions to the point where there's a small hole in my left cornea. She told me to use preservative eye drops every hour for a week (She provided I-Drop Pur drops) and told me to use Systane gel drops at night before bed. I also have a cataract in that eye. I'll be seeing an eye specialist but not sure when I'll get in. All of that being said, I take 50mg of Amitriptyline every night and have for 20 year, which gives me dry mouth. Looks like that's one of the culprits here. I take that for Fibromyalgia and am not willing to stop taking it because it's given me a decent quality of life. Thanks for this video, very informative. I can't wait to see the Ophthalmologist and see what, if anything else can be done for me. At the moment my eye can detect nothing but a blur......Yes, my symptoms fluctuate and sometimes it seems the eye drops don't work until I've put them in 3-4 times over a few hours.

Your content is always very comprehensive. Thank you so much! It's surely helpful as many don't have access to top tier medicine like the kind you practice (sorry for being honest). With the information we get here we can arm ourselves better when asking for help or even self medicate or plan some medical tourism if necessary.
Dry eyes are seen as a not serious problem here in The Netherlands. Many other health issues as well. Socialized medicine isn't awful but it isn't good either (specially when there's no real private / free market sector for people who want to prioritize their health or that are too sick and want access to high quality). When you don't pay for it, you're not the customer. Doctors here can't even set their own prices, so there's not motivation for them to compete against each other. Sorry. Unrelated, maybe. I just felt like giving you context.

Hi and thanks for the useful information. Blepharitis certainly plays a noticeable role in my personal dry eye condition. Despite daily cleaning, brushing eye lids etc, the condition does not really improve. Often I am unable to wear contact lenses because of the blepharitis. I guess it is just not likely to go away but it is extremely uncomfortable. I did have several mybomian cycts excised so perhaps that has exacerbated the problem. Thanks for your interesting and educational input. Mike.

As an avid lifelong motorcycle rider, now 71 years old, dry eye is increasingly problematic the last 6-7 years. I figured out my 2x daily Zyrtec was exacerbating it, and reducing it to 1x daily has helped some. It is episodic, and I usually get several minutes' warning before rapid deterioration which can get worse within 30-60 seconds, and lead to near blindness and disorientation. So I pull over and put eyedrops ASAP.

Have you heard of people whose dry eye has gotten worse when they started using a C-PAP machine? My eyes water a lot and I was told it was dry eye. I put a P.M. gel in my eyes and wear a sleep mask, but it hasn't helped my dry eye. I have been using eye drops four times a day as instructed by my primary care phsyican, but it hasn't seemed to help reduce my dry eye symptoms. Now, in one eye, I can see what looks like tiny veins and I have a white spot when I blink (I'm not diabetic, but am significantly overweight). I have an eye appointment in one week, but I am getting very nervous about my eyesight.

I have chronic dry eye. Some days my eye is good, like maybe 2 days good then 1 or 2 days it's like Niagra Falls. I use Systane for dry eye as per my eye surgeon as I had cataract surgery Sept 2023. I wish he would have told me that the surgery can sometimes make the dry eye issue worse. I might have opted to not have the surgery yet. I am up here in the Northwoods of WI. Currently, I'm just not a very happy camper with this issue. I may experiment with another of the drops you mentioned in the other video. Because as you said, is what I always tell people too...What works well for me might not work well for you. I talk daily to my guy on phone we're long distance. And the 1st thing he always asks me is, "How's the eye today?" He is very concerned. Thank you so much for teaching about the other diff drops we can use. It really is like trial and error to get the right drops to feel some relief from all the tearing. I appreciate you!

I don't have to use the cream anymore (after two weeks use) unless it stars again. Appreciated your detailed info regarding dry-eyes, Dr. I learned great deal more abt it now.
Humm, but do not understand why nobody mention nor question about applying Coconut-Oil (Unrefind) to dry-eyes using Q-tips.
It's been helping my Dry-eye symptoms of scratching etching sometimes painful for almost 10 yrs or more now since I sufferred Stoke then subsquent Dementia symptoms.
Im now just turned 70 yrs old, n have been eating (with spoon but "very small portion to fully mix with saliva before swallowing" until get used to eating spoonful portion.
Otherwise, the thick Coconut-Oil can chock-up your throat causing severe coughing n chocking .... )
For DRY-EYE symptoms, I apply Coconut-Oil wz Q-tip right after washing before dry-eye symptoms arise day n night. Yes, after sleeping n then before sleeping after washing.
Any exessive Coconut-Oil around eyes can be simply wiped-off wz paper-napkin.
After all day, or after sleeping, sometimes there is dry-residue in the eyes which washs off easy when washing face, or with water-moistured napkin.
    It works all-day n all-night for me.
I want to give credit to the RUclipsr which was found when I was deperately searching YT for Dry-Eye matter after having to waste a lot of many on Eye-drops which seemed to be helping just few mins only.
I do not remember the name of RUclipsr now especially it's been almost 10 yrs now.
When applied Coconut-Oil (Unrefined) to Dry-eyes, the symptoms disappear immediately for my case anyway.
And, it does not block views like Casto-Oil does which I tried before finding abt using Coconut-Oil instead.
Coconut-Oil has been like GOD sent for my case anyway.
It has helped great deal not only with Dry-eyes symptiom but also Dimentia symptoms as well for my case anyway.
Hoping my experience can be some help to somebody else as well.
