    1. Decrease screen time (every 20 minute blink break)
    2. 3:20 Moisture chamber glasses and goggles (silicone eye cups preventing tears from evaporating, block pollen etc.., needs to be well fitted) like manufacturer sienna
    3. Raise humidity in environment. Humidifier. In car air vent not facing face.
    4. Warm compress 8:20 mark. Optimized when: atleast 104 deg (warm towel can cool off) dont want to heat too much for burn. Recommened 20-25 minutes 111 to 113 deg (ideal temp for warm compress) 1-2 x/days
16:04 experiment used a pizza thermometer. And checked temp of eyes as well as warm compress.. Reached eyelid temp ideal is 105 deg (i may use my silicone water bottle) he used electrical warm eye compress on high and eye lid stayed at 105 deg after 20 min.
    5. 24 min mark. After warm compress do strong blinks. Counter traction massage using clean hands.
    6. 27:00 minute mark. Omega 3 fatty acid oils. Flax..etc. research may not support evidence. Some people have said it helped
    31:00 mark overall review
    What about eye drops?

If you get dry eyes at night, use Glad Press 'n Seal. Cut 2 squares off at least 2" larger than your eyes so they fully cover around your eyes. Press them on over your eyes before going to bed. They need to be big enough to cover the whole area around your eyes, not just your eyes. No air can get in making a complete seal around your eyes. Yes, they stay in place all night and are completely sanitary to use because nothing can get in under them. When you wake up, you will have a lot of moisture under them that kept your eyes moist all night long. They will stay moist until you remove them. It's more comfortable and cheaper than goggles and eye masks. I have MGD and RCE, and this works great. Good luck!

You also confirmed my preferred selection of an electric heat mask rather than a microwave version recommended by the office salesperson. Thirdly, I now know that individual blister “vials” are more prone to contamination than Systane special packaged bottles. Your videos have given me the unbiased information and confidence to treat my dry eyes safely, effectively, and efficiently at home. I’m a very disciplined and frugal individual…I can do this! 0:18 I have suffered from dry eyes for decades and recently developed surfer’s eye. The two issues are likely related. Diet has helped some, but it has never been enough. I write to celebrate true relief with the recommended compress. I have tried compresses before but my homemade compresses were always too hot/too cold and I doubt the sessions ever lasted 20 minutes. My compress arrived yesterday and I applied it right away. My eyes were literally so oily afterward that I could not focus. This morning, my eyes feel fabulous. This is the only true relief I have ever experienced. I bought the less expensive model which does not have a temperature reading. I used it one notch below max and it was perfect for me. Thanks so much for sharing this meaningful tip.

Great ideas, so easy to listen to, the best online /bedside manner on YT. I have 'dry eye' but 90% blocked tear ducts. Wind makes me tear and I'm 3,000 miles in 2 yrs of e mtn biking, ski 60 days a year, play tennis a very dry Utah environment. Glad to wear goggles vs tearing at speed! Hi. Out of nowhere, I got very severe dry eye; one day it just hit me really hard and I was diagnosed with dry eye. Eye drops, gels, wouldn't work. I then tried the Low Light Level Therapy and it gave me big relief for about two weeks before I started feeling bad again. I also made lifestyle changes. I drink much more water, sleep earlier (except tonight lol), lessened screen time. I also clean my eye lids twice or 3 times a day with Ocusoft Hypochlor and use heat mask once or twice a day. Turned off ceiling fans, bought a humidifier, avoided ventilation to my face. Basically I do most of the things that are mentioned in this video. This is the first time I watch this video but I can say that this amazing doctor's advice is really good. Never tried gland expression nor sealed my eyes with goggles. I do use now glasses that cover most of my eyes from getting debris and air from hitting them directly. If I want it to work, I might as well do it right and try an electrical heat mask to provide the consistent "slow cooker" warmth. To prevent it from making inflammation worse, I have tried to use a microwavable mask in combination with a silicon eye mask and some eye drops to keep my eyes moist and prevent the hot mask from burning my eyeballs. @@lauriej4597 Only my right eye suffers dryness, because of the way I used to sleep facing my Hepa filter. It would blow air at my face, but only my right eye was fully exposed. Since I only put the castor oil in one eye, the blurring doesn’t bother me. I would recommend only oiling one eye at a time. However, I have found the heat packs are by far the most effective for me. I hope you have success, because my right eye can be so painful in the morning, that it feels like my cornea is about to rip off.

I had eye allergy and that also gives me dry eyes. I did IPL and really it did worked. But at home what I did my self did worked the best. I used warm compress every night for over 5 months. It actually started worked just over month. Significantly improved. I went to see an dr after one month of using warm compress my tear films was over 10 second. I still get eye allergy but no more dry eyes. I do take flexiseed oil. It’s the best. I have changed my diet. Drink a lots of water was the gold method as well. But my 1 and great method is warm compress. I only use the one from chemists and I put it in microwave and I fall sleep with it. It feels good and it worked 98%. ❤ so good luck. There is always are cured to anything if you keep positive mind set also. Our body can heal it self. Just give it time. And never forget to take you fish oil or flexi seed oil. 👍🏼

What causes the eyelid muscles to be weak and how can I strengthen them.
Is there inflammation that prevents them from shutting properly, if yes what causes it?

Was told it was due to having Lazer surgery 28 yrs ago to correct near sightedness but also bc of numerous medications including a water pill and Omega3. Was told by specialist to use Systane Gel drops and warm facecloth compresses which provide only short term relief. Also had placed a humidifier in my bedroom. I'm wondering if there is an underlying problem that is causing the composition of the oil to change, and therefore its melting temperature.

Love the video. This is the type of experimentation that needs to be done! Since I eliminated my need for corrective lenses (wore -3.75 D contacts for 20 years) I developed dry eyes that keep me just out of reach of consistent 20/20. You can use eye cups or an eye “dam” filled with warm ghee or castor oil, with a couple drops of tea tree oil (shown to kill the bacteria that causes blepharitis) and this method keeps its temp for a much longer time than most eye masks. And you can open your eyes periodically. Of course, it’s a lot messier and expensive, but once or twice per week feels wonderful. That electric compress seems ideal for a daily regimen though and I’m going to pick one of those up. Thanks for the extremely informative video and actually measuring the temperatures and researching what they should be. Improving the health and function of the visual system, I have found, is very dependent on staying within specific parameters, it’s an amazing feedback system!
(Adding that schools are a terrible environment for the eyes. Dry air and those low lux fluorescent light are horrible for vision!!!)

    • @kristenconahan1841

how did you eliminate you need for corrective lenses?

    • @jnananinja7436
      @jnananinja7436 Год назад +1

@@kristenconahan1841 What you need to understand is that the scleral matrix “remodels” itself in response to the location of the focal plane presented to the retina. If the focal plane is behind the retina as in myopia, the eyeball “lengthens” (although this is misleading terminology) to move the retina backwards toward the focal plane. What actually happens is the retina and sclera thin out and the interocular pressure balloons the eyeball in the direction of the thinner matrix. A big negative to this is that blood flow is reduced to the retinal as the vascular it’s of the thin regions is reduced. The genetic pathways responsible for this dynamic shortening or lengthening are already well researched. The initial reason the focal plane is pushed and stuck behind the retina is due to an unrelated ciliary muscle. Call it a spasm, a cramp, stiffness, fatigue, whatever, but too much stress on the ciliary (which contracts to shape the lens for nearpoint vision) and not frequently focusing into the far distance is the basic recipe for disaster. Optometrists will give you negative diopter lenses to pull the focal plane forward but this just eliminates any possibility of your ciliary muscle relaxing. And now when you read or otherwise engage your close up focus for extended periods while wearing your lenses, you just continue to push the focal point backwards , and the eyeball will stretch back to meet it. Now myopia has become structural, based on the shape of the eyeball as well as the cramped/stiff ciliary muscle.
To remedy this situation, two basic things need to be done. The eyeball needs to thicken and shorten to bring the retina forward. This is accomplished by wearing weaker lenses, 1/4D to be exact, for about 6-8 weeks. During this period you just need to repeatedly coax and stimulate your eyes to just overcome that little bit of blur by relaxing and shortening a little bit. It works. Repeat until you are under -1D. At that point you may introduce specific ciliary stimulation/relaxation techniques (quite basic exercises that target total reconditioning of focal mechanism) to achieve 20/20 or better.
