Hi Dr. Thank you for your advice. My eyes are very dry but have improved over time. I use Omega 3, Systane Ultra drops PF, Celluvisc drops if they are very dry due to weather conditions. Green tea steam eye bath, helps the inflammation. I use a small humidifier at night beside my bed. I hope everyone gets some relief.
I especially liked when you noted that people who have more omega 3 fish oil in their diet have a reduction in dry eye. This is helpful and such an easy and natural change to make. Thank you and I look forward to more of your videos.
I used sea buckthorn oil gel caps and it really helped. I think if I continue on them I'll see more improvement. Before taking them, there were mornings when it felt like my eyes were glued shut. One eye seems drier than the other too.....not sure why.
Thank you Dr Chua, I have suffered from dry eye for a long time now. I thought I would just have to suffer through it but after listening to your video I see that there is help available. I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge with all of us and I’m so glad that our paths crossed if only virtually🌺
Maqui berry cleared up my dry eye, which was severe. 1/2 tsp of the powder each morning, dissolved in a half glass of water. I don't know how or why it works, but it does. Worth a try if you have this condition; it costs me about $10 for a 3-4 month supply.
Wow, one of the most helpful videos I've seen in a long time. I do use dry eye drops about 3x a day. My husband got a scratched cornea, and the doctor said that can be caused by untreated dry eye, so it's good to use drops not just for comfort but to take care of the eye. Thank you for your nice smile and valuable information.
@@maninamerica2046 Nope. If you have dry eyes, your eyelids can stick to the cornea at night and when you open your eye in the morning, the top layer of the cornea goes off. I have tried that 5 times in the past year. It hurts a lot
Systane ultra has helped my dry eyes. Woke up one day and couldn't open my eyes. It was blurry and slightly painful. Bought systane and took about 7ml until my eyes returned to its normal state
Thank Doctor! You don’t know how long I’ve been suffering these horrid symptoms and my doctor didn’t get it. Suffering this grainy, sand paper and inflamed sensation is extremely painful. Living in pain and having red eyes on a daily basis truly feels like hell.
I had punctal plugs and while they helped, they always started to reject after around 6 months. I've been on Xiidra for a few years and it's been life changing. I also use warm compresses if I start to have burning.
I was told by optometrists for years that I had dry eye syndrome. I discovered that my eyes were becoming red and inflamed due to histamine and salicylate intolerance. When I corrected my diet the symptoms went away. Now I only get symptoms when I eat foods that I shouldn't.
You are so correct about those recommended meds for dry eye! I cannot afford them. I have Sjogren's and working at a computer all my life, I have serious dry eye. When I experienced Bells Palsy the eye doctor prescribed an antibiotic gel, which I periodically put in my eyes at night and makes a great difference in my dry eyes. When I do use tears, (CLEAR EYES) my eyes itch so badly for quite some time and I think is part of ALLERGIES. After listening to the entire video I realize I NEED TO TOSS CLEAR EYES in the trash!! THANK YOU for this video!
Dry eyes are not always a "stand alone" problem. Sometimes dry eyes are a symptom of autoimmune issues (which, btw content creator, thank you for mentioning this). When my rheumatologist put me on hydroxychloroquine, the symptoms were slightly reduced. What really gave me great benefit was having tear duct plug placed and I'm now looking into having my tear ducts cauterized so that they are no longer functional. Yes, I'd rather have what little tears I do produce make me look like I'm crying a bit.
I see a difference already and it's only day 2! I've used visine for red eye daily for over a decade! And they were just getting worse recently. I started using two of your products recommended just yesterday and my eyes are less red! Thank you so much!
A simple and amazing solution for my dry eye has been an eye vitamin using the AREDS2 formula (the particular brand is not important). This formula causes my eyes to feel 95% better and I don't need to use eye drops anymore. It worked for a friend of mine as well. I'm not sure why this simple solution is never discussed. One ophthalmologist thinks it's the Vitamin E in the formula. But when I stop taking it, within 2-3 days the dry eye comes back. It definitely works for me. I'm so glad to have one less health problem to worry about.
@@jeangilliam8890 @aquarius113 @snowbike8032 It seems my comment was deleted, however, just look for a formula similar to what you find in the drug store which uses the combination of vitamins studied in the AREDS2 study. Tip: I found a formula with less zinc in it, because zinc tends to bother my stomach, and I take it with food also.
Thank you for this. I have an auto immune disease and have dry eyes. Restasis doesn’t work anymore. Years ago my ophthalmologist had me try Muro 128. It worked then but I didn’t like the hazy vision. I used to take a supplement by theratears which contains some fish oil and other beneficial nutrients. After about 3 weeks I noticed that my eyes were more lubricated. That and some moisturizing drops used to help. I can't quite afford everything so I haven't used these capsules in a few years, but I might try them again. I have had red eyes for years, making it look like I haven't slept or was intoxicated. My right eye gets red the worst and its eyelids will be partially closed if I'm really tired, which is odd. My eye doctor keeps telling me it's dry eyes, yet I've been using Systane for years and nothing has really changed much. In modern day society we are on computers and our phones often, but I always make sure I blink a lot. I do have allergies so that probably factors in too and none of the over the counter medications make a difference. I've even been using Lumify to get the red out, at the recommendation of my eye doctor. But it doesn't really keep the red out for long and it's not supposed to be used more than 4 times a day. It gets frustrating. Oh and I've been taking Fish Oil capsule for around 20 years.

I prefer silicone goggles to the overnight ointments. My eyes are moist when I awake each morning. I feel that the use of ointments made my MG problem worse, clogging the oil glands even worse. I also take 4800 mg of fish oil (2400 in the AM and again in the PM). Restasis works to alleviate the inflammation, but has done nothing to change my situation. Retaine is my go to as far as drops. I have been using Restasis since the drug hit the market over a decade ago. I’ve tried Lacrisert and the expensive NOT covered by insurance treatment (Lipiflow)and punctile plugs. None worked for me.😊
Systane complete comes in a preservative free formulation. Systane nighttime ointment works better than Genteal ointment (Genteal ointment stains pillow cases) and Genteal gel is not as effective but is good for daytime use.
I suffer from severe dry eyes and have for many years. My doctor put me on Restasis and just as pointed out in this video it took months before it delivered results but eventually it did help a great deal and after more than year of agony and countless sleepless nights things began to get better. Having tried more than a dozen different brands of eye drops I found that all but one not only didn't help but actually irritated my eyes. Even the supposedly superior and very expensive Oasis was a complete failure! The one that worked for me was TheraTears preservative free. In addition I use warm compresses twice a day: 15 minutes in the morning 30 minutes at night. I tried various commercially available ones and they didn’t hold the heat from my microwave for more than a few minutes. I read about creating your own compresses by placing a handful of rice in one of the ankle high nylon stockings that women use and then tying a know above the rice. This allows you to customize the size of the compress to fit your eye socket. I heat mine in a microwave (times vary depending upon the microwave so you have to experiment) and then wrap them in a small microfiber towel. Initially I apply them over each eye on the side with two layers of fabric and then as the rice cools I switch to a single layer of fabric by rotating the compress. Eventually I totally remove the fabric and place the individual compresses on my eyelids. By doing this I get a full 25 to 30 minutes of just the right amount of heat. I also clean my eyelids once a day with Occusoft foam cleaner. An absolutely incredible source of information and support is the dry eye foundation at www.dry eye foundation.com.
Thank for the recommendation Dr! You mentioned a few autoimmune diseases. Would Hashimoto’s with a thyroidectomy cause dry eyes as well? 3 years about and seems to be having eye irritation and dryness over the last few months. Extra gritty “sleep” in the corner of eye. Going to buy the eye drops and add omegas! Thanks so much!
I was using Systane Complete and my eyes were hurting. I call company and said my eyes could be allergic reaction and lady send me Preservative-Free and work great.
Dr. Chua, I would like to hear your thoughts on the eye drops called "LUMIFY" they are over-the-counter eye drops for redness and it contains none of the bad ingredients of the products you mentioned to remove redness. Is Lumify safe? I love the Systane products for eye dryness my Optimologist has recommended.

At bedtime my eyes becomes so itchy that i used to take cetitizine before bedtime and apply cold compress to soothe the itchiness in my lids....my question is..is it best to use systane complete over systane ultra and systane balance without knowing from where your dry eyes comes from ..as we know that these 3 systane products has their indication for different layers of the tearfilm., lipids , aqeous and mucin..tnx and looking forward for your reply
I had very dry eyes for years. Then my sister convinced me to take 1-2 tablespoons of olive oil every morning. 2-3 days later my dry eyes were gone. My eye doctor was shocked but he humbly and happily agreed that this all-natural, very inexpensive, and healthy approach completely rectified my issue. Give it a try! On top of that pure virgin cold-pressed olive oil is very healthy for us in other areas also. But that is another story.
@@wavetoearf I might have always had sightly dry eyes but after an eye injury, (slashed lense and cornea from broken glasses) the problem became much worse. When my eyedoctor would to a litmus paper test, my eye gave of little to no moisture. I think he described my eye as "bone dry." They required frequent drops. The doctor also inserted a plug in my tear duct to help keep the little moisture that was there. However, after some time of using the olive oil, my eyes became completely normal and he removed the plugs. Of course, I do not claim that olive oil will cure everyone. There are probably different conditions that require different solutions. But it certainly is worth a try. It's cheap. It's easy. It's all natural. And I doubt there are any negative side effects.

Thank you SO much for this information. I wake up throughout the night to put lubricating eye drops in my eyes. Throughout the day at work I use drops repeatedly. I'm a nurse my eyes are always irritated at work and I usually look like I have not slept at all the night before my shift.
I SUBSCRIBED Immediately! I wanna know what you use on your Face? I have never seen such skin. I had a Eye Exam last week and they discovered my lower tear ducts are dry. She asked me if I have seasonal allergies. I said yes, I do. I said I carry Drops. But now I know what are better drops. I heard about the Red Eye Relief Drops back in the 90’s how they were not good for the eyes because of restriction. Thank You for your Video.
Thank you Doc! I have been flipping out until seeing my Optho, but these are sensible and actionable measures 👏✌️
The best doctor who talked about my problem.. Maybe I saved 500 dollars in doctor fees because of this video🙏❤️🇰🇼

Warm compresses help. I ordered a heated eye mask, you can spritz water on it to make it more like warm compress. It has really helped me and hope it will help someone else. God Bless I ordered mine from Amazon
@@fayoconner9140 I just ordered one after reading your comment. Thank you!

Dry eyes is a deficiency in vitamin A , the best forms of vitamin A are
1) cod liver oil
2) liver
3) fatty fish
4) butter
5) cheese
6) egg yolk
7) beef
Lived in South my entire life & never wore sunglasses. Now have to live with permanent yellow/red eyes instead of white because of UV damage & beach sand/dust/eye powder makeup. Take care of your eyes starting at birth. Wear 100% UV wrap around sunglasses outside!!
I was hoping you would say you found a solution. I have the exact same issues.
Thank you Dr.Chua your so generous to give an idea to the Patients like me older than you know and a health condition of eye even younger sufferingr from that situation you helps a lot you are a human gifted for us need an advice Thanks a lot for your kind hearted knowingly a main problem because of the exposure of so many things around us God bless you more Doc Chua stay safe and healthy🇵🇭

Everyone I’ve ever met that had LASIK has dry eyes
I have dry eyes and i want to get lasik

Should get it
Biggest mistake of my life!
@melissaspeering6922 get punctal plugs!! I been suffering from dry eyes for years and always needed tear drops after Lasik.. Now I only need when I feel my eyes sre super dry.. best decision I've ever done. Go to your eye doctor and get them it's worth it!!
True
None worked for me.😊
Which silicone goggles did you purchase for sleeping? I'm interested. Thank you
Warm compress n eye massage after it has helped me most
Systane complete comes in a preservative free formulation.
Thank you very much Dr you are exelent the BEST how many times a day Systane
Thank you, I did not know there was eye dr for dry eyes
Thanks Dr. Chia. Very educational.
Good to know
Thank you. I use the gel at night before bed and it helps.
Doctor can I ask ---- what about Dextran 70 is it good? Thank u for answering my question
So informative ❤️
How many times per day should I use Systane Complete?
Is it ok to take the first two drops if you have had cataracts surgery and laser surgery ?
right after my surgery, my ophthalmologist gave me those samples and even put them in for me the next morning.
I love Systane complete, it so relieving. I will have to get the preservative
free Thank you
How much is this?
I've had double vision for 6 months on right eye...prism lens is not helping much that opthamologist prescribed me with. I do use eye drops but I will purchase these you mentioned for dry eyes which I have had also. My C6-7 is degenerated not sure if this may be causing double vision. Doing lots of research on my health problems. I'm glad to come across your video was very helpful. Thank 🙏 You.
Good evening Doc Do u still recommend using Eye mo?
Please add subtitles for us deaf people. We miss out on so much without them. Thank you

My eyes tear all the time. They are watery eyes. Tears will run down my face and I’m not crying. Is this the same thing as dry eyes? My Dr said yes but he did not mention here in this video about tearing.
Hello doc..i'm an optometrist from phil. And i too have dry eyes..i also have allergic rhinitis that worsens my dry eyes..i use systane ultra .
Can you use one of these after healing from cataract surgery?
I had very dry eyes for years. Then my sister convinced me to take 1-2 tablespoons of olive oil every morning. 2-3 days later my dry eyes were gone. My eye doctor was shocked but he humbly and happily agreed that this all-natural, very inexpensive, and healthy approach completely rectified my issue. Give it a try! On top of that pure virgin cold-pressed olive oil is very healthy for us in other areas also. But that is another story.
so you dont take eye drops anymore?
@@wavetoearf I no longer have to take eye drops for dry eyes.
@@scottvisser8671 what were your symtoms
@@scottvisser8671 Do you still take olive oil to this day?
Have used a myriad of eye drops..always go back to Blink..🇨🇦
