I caught this stream long after it finished, so imagine my surprise and amusement when I heard you say: "I've got to wrap this up soon, my schedule is full," [paraphrase] and seeing we were 45 mins in with 55 to go. It makes me want to grant you Italian Citizenship, maybe on the strength of "furthering an Italian outlook of time management with flair and aplomb."
Now that I am at the end, it's worth saying that Ronnie was my childhood hero; he died two weeks shy of my 14th. I was devastated - we all thought he would end up WC eventually. Now, half a century later, I know the details - both gory and infuriating - and I'm quite glad I wasn't told then. It was bad enough.

@@thomasmitchell6921 I think it is. He's probably more likely to give an opinion when asked than most, and he's more likely to be asked partly because of that and partly because of past success. Doesn't seem like he deliberately digs at stuff. Personal opinion, but I have no problem with him. I know lots do.

Like very many, I am a committed fan of Peter Windsor. Always so knowledgeable regarding motor racing and in particular Formula1 Grand Prix; and, absolutely chock full of enlightened perspectives too!
Sir Stirling Moss was the driver who drove eyeballs 👀 toward F1 on the world 🌎 stage then suddenly suffered from the lack of safety standards that ended his ability to compete at the highest level. He is honoured at Canadian Tire 🛞 Motorsport Park as the winner 🏆 of the first major race in 1961 . Corner 5 bears his name in which he had some input of the final design. 🇨🇦🫡
Where would I like to see Newey go? Andretti: let the F1 club then say that no new team will produce a competitive car. And the answer to the problem of the pot being split 11 ways rather than 10 is simple: still split the end-of-season money 10 ways even if there are 11 teams.
Damn, I've been very excited about the possibility of Andretti F1 but now if it's true that mario, not capitalized, is talking to jimmy jordan makes me sick to my stomach.

I believe Mercedes is struggling more than anyone with the cost cap. The few seasons they struggled 17,18, 21; they threw upgrade after upgrade to the car each week. In all their championships they were always the highest spenders

Not re-signing Valtteri Bottas as team mate to Lewis Hamilton, is only one of the errors that are very questionable.
Not supporting Hamilton in the 2021 Abu Dhabi debacle, that saw 'The Black Knight' robbed of the World Championship was a glaring one.
Not instructing Mercedes AMG engineers to listen to multi-World Championship winner, until it was far too late in design development.
Subsequently, failing to oversee a competitive Mercedes race car, as he had promised Hamilton.
Not awarding Hamilton a multi-year contract was another.
The final indignity of not fighting for Mercedes ambassadorship like Sir Stirling Moss (who was a mentor of Hamilton like Niki Lauda)
Offering Max Verstappen everything that he failed to deliver for Hamilton to try and save face after the complacency of arrogantly believing that he had Hamilton in his pocket until retirement. (Which so far, has made George Russell rather unsettled and got a lot of egg on his face. . .)
Oh yes, Toto Wolff made lots and lots of errors . . .

The Penske scandal gets worse and worse the more you look at it. Penske has all the power, like the checks and balances are almost non existent for other teams. This scandal is exposing the flaws of their current system. The other team owners have no power at all essentially

It seems to me there is something fundamentally wrong when a series, purporting to be a world championship, and therefore by implication, open, sets up a structure where the current competitors have a big input (in practice, if not in theory) about who is allowed to compete with them in the future.
How would it be if Federer had decided who could be allowed into the ATP tennis tour, or Woods in golf? It makes the whole thing a packaged show.
The roots of this go right back to the early 70s when Ecclestone started to band together the teams into a body to negotiate with the race promoters. It didn't have to end up this way, but it opened up the possibility.
Perhaps toto honestly believed that Hamilton would get his 8th crown and then disappear, who knows. I'm happy George is there it's just a pity they struggling like that. Perhaps even more than rb in the hybrid era
You often talk about Rob Wilson and "the flat car" and the "short corner". But what is the difference to trail braking? Isn't it just a binary simplified trail braking: initial lateral load, hi braking and when it gets slow, then rotate. It sounds like trail braking simplified to two parts. Or you could say that it s straight braking with a curvy twist while doing the braking.
Mathematically this is the type of problem that most likely results a continuous process when optimized - sounds like perfect trail braking, transiting at the perimeter of friction circle. Of course you can say, that transiting at the perimeter is the hardest option for tyres. So is flat car-short corner just a way to reduce tyre load ... but that would also mean loosing time.
To shorten the corner you need to trail brake, but trail braking doesn't mean always that you shorten the corner (take turn 9 and 10 as an example at Bahrain.)
The flat car principle means that you have as little weight transfer as possible. The whole idea of a short corner is that you have to do as little cornering as possible because that loses time because then there is a lot of load on the car which also increases tyre wear. To give an example, if you have a corner that you can shorten you trail brake and therefore get some turning done which you wouldn't get if you just normal braked. Therefore you need to steer less to get the corner done, the principle is to do most of the turning at the lowest cornering speed because that gives the least downside. It means that you sacrifice some minimum speed to get more turning done however when done properly it means that you can have a flat car (with less steering) out of the corner before a non short corner driver which in result means better traction.
To get the best example in modern day F1 I would recommend watching Max's onboards and you will notice he trail brakes earlier in the corner than basically anyone and then just before the apex he puts a bit more lock on the wheel to get more steering done and then tries to get the car as flat (straight) as soon as possible.
Good comment on JV at Williams, the more i see him make excuses and use that smooth but bs Mercedes speaking style, the more i think he's not the answer. Williams are doing far worse compared to his first year instead of improving.
Norbert Haug has fuel in his blood (as we say in German - you call it "petrolhead" in English). Toto has money flowing through his veins.
I think Red Bull are well placed to create their own race series, as F1 replacements or something new.
Right now Formula E has a monopoly for what's called "green" open wheeled series under the FIA. No CO2 (actual plant food) out the actual exhaust, only from all the other part of the racing... There is an opposrtunity to have a closed wheel all-electric series. Chinese batteries are at 360 Wh/kg now, commercially. And they won't burn, supposedly. I can see a "prototype" series with 2x the battery size of Formula E, lower consumption, faster laps, swappable battery in pit stops. Think 10-15 second or faster pitstops for 100 kWh battery and 4 tyres. 30-40 minutes at hypercar or even LPM1 pace around GP tracks. 24h capable, at more laps than hypercars.
FE barely offers brands anything to develop themselves. I'd like to see more freedoms, but when using a given cell type, allow other teams to use them as well early in the development process. Very low minimum weight to allow for 50 kWh batteries that take more stops but might be range and heat limited. Could all be programmed to work out nicely for strategy. Say, extra pitlane that is very short, for battery swaps only. Very little time lost but you need to preserve tyres.
There are great technologies coming from road going supercar brands that I'd love to build a series around. Koenigsegg has really light engines and motors on the way. Low Energy Nuclear Reaction tech is even getting rid of carbon emissions from regular diesel/petrol/natural gas engines. Tough luck, Greta! Fresh air out the exhaust and still quite a bit of noise.

On Mercedes missing out on / not pursuing avidly enough Newey, it's a depressing prospect for F1 in general if Newey is an absolute prerequisite for success. However, I find it hard to accept. That he is very good and his hit rate is excellent is undoubted, but there are many other talented engineers in F1. It's a bit like saying one can only win with Verstappen driving, and I don't believe that either. They are both excellent and happen to be right up there at the moment, but no-one is unbeatable. If they were, what would be the point in watching?
I think F1 has gone a bit mad over Newey and Verstappen, and the real reason is that the structure of F1 now means the cycle time of F1 teams rising and falling - well, rising anyway - is extremely slow. It's a structural problem that needs addressing.
If Newey goes anywhere at all, I'd like to hope it is a back of field team.
Always enjoy your streams! In terms of Formula 1 finally fielding a female driver, what do you think is the biggest impediment? Finding, developing, physicality, promotion, money, the FIA?
I think the problem is there just arent enough female drivers entering into racing, in general, to practically sort through a sufficient sample size to find the best. % of female karting drivers? % of junior feeder single seaters? % in world rally? Hell, even % in sim racing, which should be the easiest? All very low and not getting much better.
I feel like it's a bit of a chicken and an egg situation. Where all it will take is one successful female driver and then that will have a cascading effect of more being interested in and having an opportunity to enter the sport.
Racing has always been a Male dominated Sport....... It takes two balls, not just one. The basic problem with Female drivers in Your scenario, is that not very many Women have a passion to race at that level. Then there is the developed skills and raw talent. Just because You really want to do something doesn't mean you can ever be good enough. That goes for everyone, not just females. Just look at Stroll. He should not be taking a seat away from other more talented/gifted people.
Toto made the right call replacing Bottas with Russell. Hamilton has not driven at a level that demands #1 driver status over the last seasons.

What does HAM need to do to get a penalty that actually affects his race? The KMag duel should never have happened, slam dunk drive through to bump 2 cars out. Simple way too late on the brakes, regardless of the outcome. If the Astons had avoided contact, HAM would still have involved THREE cars into his incident.
I'd love for someone to push more for sim racing as a recruitment tool. A way around the super rich kids that are populating F1 Academy. Prove yourself in sim racing if you want to be picked up. There could even be categories based on standard low cost equipment, to give drivers in less wealthy countries a greater chance. Athlete manager recruit runners in East Africa. Why not recruit kids with racing talent? It will be apparent within minutes at the wheel.
Anthony Hamilton is a rare case as a racing dad. Still, I think it started with him being into 4-wheelers. Had he been into violin playing, where'd Lewis be now?
I have to agree. You could see Alonso looking right and not steering into the corner to avoid Hamilton. Stroll couldn't see or expect Hamilton putting his car in that dangerous place. Only one driver could see everything, would've know better, and should've avoid the accident.

Newey to Ferrari would be perfect, if it happens. Lewis beat Charles last year, in an inferior car. In the same spec (and a good spec) car, Lewis will totally eclipse Charles over a full season. Another championship to Lewis would be the ideal, then I am more than happy for Charles to have the rest.
He can barely beat George in the same car. Charles is a superior driver to George.

16 rich girls in F1 Academy. How hard do they work? If I were to recruit boys in sim racing, self motivated doing LOADS of hours, regardless of having rich racing dads...would those not be as good or better with very little testing? We've seen it in Race of Champions and GT racing. Loads of sim racers take to real racing very well. The girls...of 16, 3 or 4 seem like they would be racing if their dads weren't showing up. I was in mountainbike racing, my parents rarely every showed up and I didn't care. I self funded and raced for me. Cost of that sport is similar to sim racing, but sim racing has a lower entry for those who already have a computer of sorts.
Would Sir Stirling have accepted the tremendously unfair restart at Abu Dhabi as valid in ending a race or season without noise?
Another example of a legal restart that forces some fans to wonder how the FIA has not gotten around to amending the result of a clearly illegal one...
