I’m 38, about 4 months ago I was 300lbs and struggled walking up the stairs. In that time I managed to get fit, dropped 40lbs, easily beat the pat and have just received a conditional offer of employment. I still got 30lbs to go but if you put your mind to it and really dedicate your life to being healthy, it’s totally possible. When I took the Pat in seattle I came third in my group and they were all military guys.

This really motivates me to ease into them without burning myself out and to slowly add more to my routine as I move along. I definitely want to do my best and I feel this will point me in the right direction especially with push ups/ sit ups and the running parts in the academy
Hey thanks for commenting! Yeah just going all out from the start will definitely burn you out…but going all in with the perspective of continuously showing up, that’s the game changer. I wish you the best!
What I’ve been doing that has actually been giving me great results I’ve been starting w 1-2 miles a day Mon- Fri (only take 15-30min depending if I’m doing timed run or “just getting a run in”) this has gotten my 1.5 mile run down 5-6sec each week and has gotten my 1mile down to 9 1/2 min. Also daily workout of 100 push ups minimum, 100 squats minimum & 50 calf raises, 100 reps minimum any abs or 5min of planks, (daily workout only takes 10-20min and each week I’m adding reps per set set) I’ve gotten my push-ups from mid 20s to over 40 per min same with sit ups and the squats& calf raises have been helping w my run times
Getting after it! 👍👏💪 I typically take one day a week just to stretch and go on a walk, as recovery day. But just something to consider. Keep at it, I really like when people share their progress because it’s moto for other people

I retired 16 months ago: I was a carpenter until then. About two months ago, I realised, when buying a big bag of garden compost and loading it into my car that I'd definitely lost some of the upper body and arm strength I'd taken for granted all my working life. Three workouts a week (M/W/F) of about 20 minutes duration each on the basic gym equipment provided for free at my local park has already shown tangible results and I'm determined to maintain this regime for as long as I can walk to the park. You don't need to suffer or sacrifice much in the way of time and if that works on a 66 year old, it should work on younger folks I'd have thought. On the subject of sit-ups, i started on 30. Two days later, i had to stop at 6! The next workout, I just did 10, but have done one more each workout. I'm now in the Twenties, and so far that last one has never seemed especially difficult. 50+ here I come!
When i went to do the agility test a poor chubby guy could not even get a foot over the 6 foot wall. Train hard lady's and gents on some David Goggins unbreakable mentality! 💪
I’m 6’2” and was 225lbs a couple of months ago. I’ve been eating clean 1500-2000 calories per day and nothing after 8:30pm. I am just now being consistent with my workouts and running. I am down to 197. I still can’t do more than 15 push-ups in a row, no chin-ups, 30 sit-ups, and 1 mile without my legs getting too tight to run. I do the pre-POPAT June 7 and the program begins in August. I’ll be ready with no problems for August, but a little nervous about the preliminary physical qualifying tests. And I’m 43.
Wow! You're taking action and making progress! Do you do yoga? Go to Coach Vigue's channel and look up beginner yoga and work your way up. In addition to Sean Vigue Fitness, I follow Bully Juice and Next Workout. Stick with it! Best wishes to you applying to the academy and eventually working at a police department.
Usually I do 20 pushups , 40 sit ups (timed) and run a mile. It’s been cold, so I haven’t been consistent with the running. I eat terribly still , drink soda and smoke cigarettes. I got a lot of work to do before I officially apply. BUT, I’m still in pretty decent shape thanks to skateboarding for 20 years.
Skateboarding builds those quads up right?😄 When it comes to our choices that can lead to not-so-good results, there is a lesson learned: What can make the good habits more easy and obvious, and what can make the bad habits less obvious and less easy? I replaced casually drinking beer with drinking sparkling water for example. Made the beer less obvious and not easy to grab out of the fridge. Hope this helps. Keep at it 💪
@@The10CodeMindset it’s built some quads haha, but can definitely tell in my knees, hips, ankles and back that I’ve skated for that long haha. I was doing ok for a while. One soda a day, less cigarettes , then somehow the habit turned back into the habits haha. Thanks for the advice! I’ll be applying to a few agencies here soon. I know the academy will really let me know how out of shape I am haha.
I’m really doing well on sit-ups and push-ups for my academy times but I’m struggling with my 1.5 mile run. I’m close to a 10 minute mile but I seem to gas out after a mile and slow down. I hope this video helps me with one month left of training before academy! Thank you!
Eat healthy, get good sleep, and some things that helped me during the track and Marine Corps days was to run hills as much as possible and run longer distances than the required distance. Don’t give up! You can do this!
Thanks a bunch mate, such a great resource. Recently passed my panel interview for the Western Australian police and I've been a bit worried about the physical portion of the academy. I will definitely keep these tips in mind and work hard on the calisthenics and especially the cardio. Might give yoga a try too!🤣🤣
You will be just fine as long as you are in good shape for the Academy, and I do not mean collegiate athlete shape! A friend of mine joined at age 47 or so and he is still in kicking arse and taking names! As you have questions just let me know.

I am 20, and got some plus weight that I really wanna get rid of. In the past couple of weeks I looked into starting some kind of workout even created a plan of some sorts to start with. When I was in High school I disliked running very, very much. I am planning on starting jogging and improving the pace and distance as times go on to get in shape and create some leg muscle, I don't know if it's a good start for someone like me with a 242lbs body weight. Then the usual stuff with push ups, situps, squats, and pullups. I really need some heads-ups or confirmations from pros like you whether it would be a good start. :D Thank You, sir! God Bless
I am definitely not a pro trainer by any means, just speaking from experience. But you got this! Stay determined and just put in the work. Some fitness channels I follow (in addition to Sean Vigue) are Bully Juice and NEXT Workout. I’m sure they have weight-loss/beginner routines to start. Just don’t start out with something too intense, leading to injury and/or discouragement. Hope that helps!
Hello, I don't know if any of y'all are having this problem but I thought I'd ask. Do any of y'all get really bad foot pains after running long distance? It's like a burning sensation that goes away after you rest it for a bit. (It comes back after you start up again.) If you have, do you know how I can prevent it from happening so I can run farther distances? Thanks so much for your time!
Careful, might be plantar fasciitis. I dealt with it when I ran track in high school. Do you stretch before running? Do you have new shoes with good support to them? Roll a tennis ball under your foot, putting tolerable pressure on it. Good massage. Also, this might help, start smart: ruclips.net/video/P3Quz5jVC-w/видео.html

I have a question that is unrelated to this video. I am a 16 year old female and I really want to be a police officer. I have studied and watched videos for the past few months and know all the pros and cons. I am ready, as soon as I hit the age Im going to the academy. The only problem I have now is support. I have had multiple bad arguments with my mom about this, and I just want her to support me! My dad does and even he has tried to talk to my mom. She doesnt think it is a good idea because Im a girl and she thinks Im going to die. I understand completely there is a chance I can get hurt or killed, but I want her to see I really want to do this with my life! My uncle had a full rant on why I need to change my career, and I understand why they are worried, but I wish they would at least support me and be happy for me! I cant even talk to my mom about it because she gets upset and starts telling me I shouldnt do this, and its really having a toll on me emotionally. I was just wondering if you had the same problem and what I should do about it.
Thanks for sharing and please understand I’m not intending to get into the middle of a debate but this situation does remind me of when I wanted to enlist in the Marine Corps at 17 and my mom was very apprehensive about it until she met with the recruiter and had all of her questions answered. So having said that, would meeting a police hiring supervisor/recruiter at your local Police Department be possible? Is there an explorers or cadet program you can participate in? Is there a citizens police academy event the family could attend? Just brainstorming for you. I wish you the best!
hi i see a lot about how we'll be doing sit ups burpees mountain climbers but how long should i aim to be doing these exercises ? is 1 minute holding each then rest & repeating 5x enough ? or how can one tell if their current endurance is enough for the academy?
That’s a good question! I wish I had specifics for you but that’s a good academy if it’s known for burpees and mountain climbers! 😄💪 Your 5 rounds of doing each for a minute sounds good as a start. If you can follow along in a 20 minute HIIT workout or cardio workout on a channel such as Juice and Toya, I’d be shocked if you weren’t prepared enough. Keep working on those reps. I wish you the best!
I'm not a fitness expert or trainer, but it depends on the consistency and efficiency of your new workout plan...AND...some police academies are physically grueling (which I'm not saying they shouldn't be), and then other academies it's pretty darn easy. So there is that to consider with your fitness planning. Hope that helps.
25 and working in teaching, and I've decided I want to change careers. My biggest issue was diet, but I've already dropped 10 pounds (190 to 180), and I've gone from barely being able to run to having a bit of trouble running 10 minutes straight. Sounds weak as hell I know, but my dumb ass never cared about my health until I was already fat as all get out.
Hi brother next month have to do 1.5 in 15 minutes 55 seconds. 15 inch vertical which im so worried about since the 3 meniscus surgeries. 24 push-ups in minute which I can do and situps 28 in min and 300 meter. Any tips on vertical
Hello good sir! I really have no idea how to jump higher from a stand still, but what has helped my knees is stretching my itBand, having turmeric and Relief Factor vitamins. Power yoga and stretching. Also reducing diary and refined sugars. This is what has helped me, but since I'm not a doc by any means I really can't give direction.
HA! I don't know much about him, but in regards to yoga exercises/stretches, I'm on the same page as him (obviously). Gosh with anything else, I haven't paid attention to how he was since leaving Seattle. Hard to believe I made this video 3 years ago.
Hey Brother, for long runs (5 - 8 miles ) what is the pace you guys suggest at the Academy? Jogg or run or right in the middle? Thanks Btw awesome video. 🙌🏽
Thank you! Now when it comes to an 8 mile run, I wouldn’t have been able to do that in the academy! Haha! If this reference helps, I would suggest being to run 1.5 miles in less than 12 minutes and if you have to maintain a pace for 5 miles then be able to run the total 5 in less than an hour.
@@The10CodeMindset Yeah. I actually do match 1.5 in 12 min and running 5 M with in an hour. For the 5 Mile, I actually Jog 10-11 min per mile. I was just concerned about that if i have to run 5 mile with the same pace for the 1.5 miles run? Because that would be tough lol Any information on that brother? Thank you
Hi there! I could give a lot of information, but in addition to the content in the video, I would focus on good sleep, running a little bit further each week at your pace, and then maintain an overall healthy eating style. I know it can be intimidating, but to get better at running, fuel your body and just keep practicing the running. I wish you the best!
Anytime! Get after it. 💪 I know I’m not a formal fitness instructor, but when I needed to get better at running, I just ran longer than what was expected and up as many hills as possible:
Don’t quote me on this, as I never worked in hiring…but if it doesn’t inhibit the ability to perform the physical requirements of the job, then I don’t see a problem.
Tough love for you: Rephrase your wording to "20 sit-ups feels like 100 to me, for now!" And then stick with them, and get better. Remember to fuel your body with healthy foods as well. When I get slack on eating well, I notice the abs workouts are the first to suffer the consequences. Keep at it, and get strong!

I got a lot of work to do before I officially apply. BUT, I’m still in pretty decent shape thanks to skateboarding for 20 years.
Skateboarding builds those quads up right?😄
When it comes to our choices that can lead to not-so-good results, there is a lesson learned:
What can make the good habits more easy and obvious, and what can make the bad habits less obvious and less easy?
Keep showing up 💪

@@The10CodeMindset I plan on it! Cool, thanks for the recommendation! I’ll definitely check it out!
Love your content, keep it up
I appreciate that
I’m really doing well on sit-ups and push-ups for my academy times but I’m struggling with my 1.5 mile run.
Might give yoga a try too!🤣🤣
No might about it, just do it 😄
I’m grafeful you found the video helpful
Hi, going in soon, hope Im not too old. 35 years old. My age worries me... have a good day.
You will be just fine as long as you are in good shape for the Academy, and I do not mean collegiate athlete shape! A friend of mine joined at age 47 or so and he is still in kicking arse and taking names! As you have questions just let me know.
@@The10CodeMindset Thank you, I am in shape. Actually my body fat was recently too low. I'm 6'5 and 200lbs. Thank you for the good words of motivation .
Anytime. Get after it! I’m also going to start filming my workouts just to virtually workout with people, and we can hold each other accountable.
Hey I’m 42 and I’m going for it. 35 is a great age 😀
@@amaranthinebeauty AWESOME!
I wonder how long it will take for me to get fit enough to join academy. My 1.5 is at 12 mins right now... And i definitely need to work on upper body strength. Im a 5ft 2in female. I think i hate working out 😂 but im committed. I have something to prove.
Commitment and consistency 👍💪
@@The10CodeMindset I'm gonna try stretching a lot more before I go out running. I tried the tennis ball and I think it really helped. Thanks for responding.
@@liftedcandy9146 Good! Glad it is helping! Stay well!
@@The10CodeMindset You too!
During the academy training, will they provide meals to fuel you correctly?
We call burpees 8ct body builders in the Navy
Heck yeah! Same in my beloved Marine Corps and is it just me or does counting it out make the burpee feel longer and tougher? 😄
They work, for sure!
I hate burpeeees
@@jerurenteria325 I second that, but will continue to do them 😄
I am 15 about 5'4 or 5'5 I weight about 118 pounds looking into law enforcement I can do 25 to 30 pushups and I do sports at my school football and basketball has helped me be really conditioned and feeling good any other things I can do
Stay active! 💪
And you will get stronger as you hit 16-18.
Well, you should 👍
@@The10CodeMindset Thanks brother god bless you🙏
I have a question that is unrelated to this video.
Your 5 rounds of doing each for a minute sounds good as a start. If you can follow along in a 20 minute HIIT workout or cardio workout on a channel such as Juice and Toya, I’d be shocked if you weren’t prepared enough. Keep working on those reps.
I wish you the best!
How long would it take to be prepared if you never worked out before?
I'm not a fitness expert or trainer, but it depends on the consistency and efficiency of your new workout plan...AND...some police academies are physically grueling (which I'm not saying they shouldn't be), and then other academies it's pretty darn easy. So there is that to consider with your fitness planning. Hope that helps.
I am 15 and I want to be a cop. I’m 5’10 200lb and I can’t do more than 10 push ups in a row. What should I do ?
Got ya covered, never too early to start preparing. Watch: ruclips.net/video/Dw6nlQsQWkw/видео.html
@@The10CodeMindset thanks!!
It is NEVER too late to get back into shape, and I have no doubt that you can, as you know you must. Keep showing up and dominate!
I don’t even want to be a cop I just want to get in shape 😂
😂👍
Well if you watched the video I hope you found it helpful towards your fitness goals
Imagine 3 years ago we referred to Russell Wilson as something to be like
HA! I don't know much about him, but in regards to yoga exercises/stretches, I'm on the same page as him (obviously). Gosh with anything else, I haven't paid attention to how he was since leaving Seattle. Hard to believe I made this video 3 years ago.
Wall sits wall sits wall sits wall sits wall sits.. all I gotta say. People failing out cause they cant do 1:30 of wall sits.
Since that’s apparently the case at some places, I’m glad you brought that up! Get those wall sit reps in!
Hey Brother, for long runs (5 - 8 miles ) what is the pace you guys suggest at the Academy? Jogg or run or right in the middle? Thanks
Btw awesome video. 🙌🏽
Because that would be tough lol
Any information on that brother?
Thank you
I can’t remember if we ever had to run 5 miles. If we did it was not expected to be a timed and graded run.
@@The10CodeMindset Thank you for the information brother. Appreciated
Anytime.
Hello Sir.... I want to join police force but i can't run i always get tired ... What should i do?
Hi there! I could give a lot of information, but in addition to the content in the video, I would focus on good sleep, running a little bit further each week at your pace, and then maintain an overall healthy eating style. I know it can be intimidating, but to get better at running, fuel your body and just keep practicing the running. I wish you the best!
@@The10CodeMindset Thank you so much Sir🙏😊
Anytime! Get after it. 💪
I know I’m not a formal fitness instructor, but when I needed to get better at running, I just ran longer than what was expected and up as many hills as possible:
How about joining police while acl graft i am totally recovered could police disqualify😢
Don’t quote me on this, as I never worked in hiring…but if it doesn’t inhibit the ability to perform the physical requirements of the job, then I don’t see a problem.
DDP yoga
Think this guy ever seen Police academy?
Zero chance
Nahhhh what
20 sit-ups feels like 100 to me 😭
Tough love for you: Rephrase your wording to "20 sit-ups feels like 100 to me, for now!" And then stick with them, and get better. Remember to fuel your body with healthy foods as well. When I get slack on eating well, I notice the abs workouts are the first to suffer the consequences.
Keep at it, and get strong!
