I didn’t know Steve O became a cop. Congratulations on your new career path sir
Hahahahahahaha!! I have gotten that comparison plenty of times before and it still cracks me up
As an army veteran in a combat mos, I thought about going the police department, but I refuse to go back to the old days of getting no sleep, the long days, etc.
Only thing I can say is if you wanna do anything similar to the military you'll probably have to deal with that. Not all yhe time but most likely
Neither a rookie or a veteran, just a student of police psychology. Loving the content! Very insightful.
I really appreciate that Anne. So police psychology? Here is my calculated formal conclusion: A few nuts and bolts are loose in the brain housing group to ever want to do this job. 😂 I'm kidding, couldn't help myself. Thanks again.
I one million percent believe police work is a calling, and you’re either cut out for it or you’re not. I was called, I served, and now I’m enjoying the benefits of retirement at a young age. I’ve seen many tragedies in my career, but the memories that haunt the most are those of children that died way too young. Those were the toughest scenes for me to work. Maintaining a positive mindset, and my spiritual faith has kept me somewhat sane. Great video, I subscribed.
You stated everything spot on and you are absolutely right.
I wish you the best retirement! Thank you for subscribing!!
It's basically an unskilled job so not really. Its the same as being a mall cop with a bit more paperwork.
@@jamestaylor5341said what everyone’s afraid to say
I'm sure you are enjoying retirement courtesy of Johnny taxpayer.
@@jamestaylor5341why are you so critical? I wanna know your position
I retired in ‘97 w/30 yrs on the job, survived a gunfight w/armed robbery suspects and am happily retired now.
I recently became a licensed officer. What are something a rookie might avoid and are important.
Hello there! I have made two videos particularly for new officers that have seemed to resonate:

Wishing you all the best! Stay knowledgeable, seek learning and training, and remember respect and empathy go a long way.
Great Video Content and i Appreicate You and Your Fellow Police Officers for Your Services and Protection and not a Police officer but i Admire The Police Officers ❤
Thanks for watching the videos!
Excellent video with solid points! Sorry that you are taking a leave of absence ….but understandable if you are moving. Keep us updated and best of luck moving!
Are you relocating to another state?
I left Cali for Naples, Florida and I’m much happier here!
Hey Grant! Yep, I'm moving to a different state but I won't mention location here on RUclips. Wow! From Cali to Florida?! In my opinion, I bet you are happier not living in the state where the "Rules for thee, not for me" Governor is in office, and the high cost of living. Yes, I took it there. 😆 Free speech!
In all seriousness though, I know several people in Cali and they are very upset with what has happened to their beautiful state, especially some big cities.
@@The10CodeMindset …Yes, I’m actually a legal immigrant from Zimbabwe that had to jump through many hoops to prove I was worthy of my Greencard and citizenship in Cali. All that has changed with open borders now and the Cali Gov is running Cali into the ground. It’s very sad because it is such a beautiful state. Yes, Florida is much more affordable and our Governor is doing a great job. Desantis fully supports LE and it seems that all our LE love him. Anyways, please let me know if you are ever visiting/talking in South West Florida!
Thanks for sharing all of that! Very well said, and interesting to learn about your past.
One last thing about Florida, Sheriff Grady Judd. Absolutely spot and his press conference statements can be epic.
@@The10CodeMindset …. Sherriff Grady Judd is Legend!
Returned home from the military and I am very set on becoming an LEO. Botched the interview at my first choice but I took it as a lesson learned. Continuing to apply at another department.
Good perspective 💪
Keep plugging away 👍👍
You mentioned it here but I can't stress enough is to learn something else while you are an LEO! Don't count on your cop skills to find a job that pays as well or even better than Law Enforcement. Find something that pays well, is recession proof, and a school that is flexible with your schedule if you can. I didn't know what I know now and regret not learning another high paying skill after my career was over. Don't make the same mistake!
I appreciate your input, and if I may supplement the advice….learn how to apply skills learned on the job (ie crisis communication) to other jobs and/or monetize what you know. Thanks again for the input
Thank you for the information i am thinking of joining law enforcement i am 17 the department i would like to join is the National Park Service as a Law Enforcement Ranger! and your Videos have been helping!
Oh cool!
And I’m glad you find the videos helpful. I did a ride-along at 17 and I was hooked. 👍
All the best to you!
Great video bro, I can't wait to go hands on for my first time,, stay safe out there bro
Thanks again!
If I may offer some advice about hands on... physically train and prepare, and then mentally rehearse scenarios in your mind...but you can wait, and you know to avoid it if it can be avoided. You be safe as well!
I’ve always wanted to be an officer as a kid. But rn I’m in school, second year(sophomore)to become an accountant. Have two years left until my degree. But I’ve idk how I’ll handle doing the same at a desk. But the job security as an accountant is very appealing. My PD in my town is hiring here in TX(small town). Starting pay is $58K without any prior experience. Done research on being a PO and it does sound appealing just not sure, primarily due to currently being in school. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
What do you ultimately want to do and who are you as a person? I know, it will take time think about it. And then I would plan out what finances would look like. Have you been on a ride along yet? Maybe you can do that to get a better perspective as well. I wish you the best
Im not law enforcement. But I am glad you guys exist. I couldn't do it myself. Thanks for all you do. Trust me you guys still have tons of civilian support even though it probably doesn't seem like it.
Thanks for supporting the police who do the right thing.
Amazing video! Yes take care of yourself!
🙌
And thank you for complimenting the video.
Would you advise to start a law enforcement officer career for a person who is 40? I just moved to US from Europe and first thing I feel is being unsafe. I would like to change that. That feels like my call. I used to be a sales person. I workout 4 times a week and I feel mentally strong. What do you think?
You can implement your sales skills and dialogue to help a situation stay calm and connect with people. Doesn’t work every time, but most of the time. When it comes to 40, patrol is a young person’s game but I have plenty of friends still on the job 40+
I made a video about this aspect of getting in later in life: Becoming a Police Officer at an Older Age - Challenges and Benefits
ruclips.net/video/RaKIXW4m7B4/видео.html
As someone interested in pursuing law enforcement I just finished my bachelors degree and cna license and have 3 kids; what was something that made you want to join if I may ask? And if you reply I appreciate you greatly
Long story as to why I got in it but it all started in childhood when watching cops and I really enjoyed the episodes when the cops caught people in the act of stealing, robbing people, or breaking into places. That ended up being my favorite part of the job, catching thieves along with serving warrants…and having a loyal K9 by my side for 3 of those years. But, when I went to work as a SRO, I was surprised how much I liked mentoring the students as best I could. Law enforcement is challenging for a family, but not impossible. Hope this helps
You seem like a real cool guy. I'd definitely drink a beer or a coke zero with you, maybe I'd cook some burgers too! Keep on rocking, human society worldwide needs people like you, Sir!
A coke-zero 😄
What if I’m a Pepsi person? I’m kidding. I sincerely appreciate the compliment.
I worked in Corrections and hated every second of it. I didn't even last 3 months before I quit. I wanted to be a police officer but kept failing the written exam.
I moved to a bigger city where a written exam isn't an entry level test. I think I have the real possibility of making it now.
Problem is, I'm scared. Not of failing but of making it and hating it. I want so bad to love the job I'm terrified that if I hate it I officially wont know what to do anymore.
I know that sounds whiny, but I just don't want my life to be consumed by a bad department and screw with my family life.
You don’t sound whiney at all, just in a temporary bind. I understand your frustration and concern. I would suggest doing research on departments to work for. If they allow ride alongs then go on a few because you don’t want to take a recruiter’s word for it. I recommend a few because you might get one Officer that complains all day and then another who likes it. Up for you to decided but I wish you the best.
I know this feeling all too well. I lost interest in IT work after doing it on and off for 3 years. I still have a attachment to it, but another part of me wants to explore other jobs/careers to see what I like the most. I'm just afraid to commit to something and end up not liking it.
From your experience/opinion, do you recommend local over federal?
Oh it definitely depends on the type of work you’re focused on, and then consider that the feds put you where they need you. Local at least know where they’ll be working.
What would do you want to do in law enforcement?
I think I would like to do patrol. I’m currently in a federal agency but I’m considering switching to local
Or you could do something productive with your life.
Hello sir. I’m really considering being a chp. I realize the risks of the job but one thing I highly value in life is God and rest. I worry it will take me from church and sleep. If I’m not rested my physical performance is poor and that’s just for sport but I would want to always be at peak performance if I ever were in a dangerous situation. If I value 8 hours of sleep EVERYDAY would you say this career or way of life might not be for me? I value taking care of my self physically and mentally and staying active. I’ve read a lot online about cops developing sleep problems and I couldn’t imagine living life like that. Thanks
It’s definitely a challenge with sleep particularly when working nights, but my last year and half I learned a lot more about sleep and how to optimize it and I would actually sleep pretty well during the day. Working in law enforcement didn’t keep me away from church, I was able to go every other weekend with the work schedule. I hope that answer helps! Take care, God bless!
@@The10CodeMindset thanks for the reply sir.
You’re welcome! Take care!
I know this is posted a year ago but I’m joining the police academy this January and I’m planning on being a cop for 3-5 years then when I’m 25 switch to firefighting
All the best to you when you start in January. May I ask why not start in firefighting now? Don't get me wrong, we need good cops out there, but you're the first to say you'll do a few years then switch. Just curious but if you don't want to answer on this public platform, I fully understand.
In cook county IL there are more cons than pros......
I think challenges is an understatement for Cook County. I particularly really respect the officers working in Chicago doing the right thing and continuously showing up. Very tragic to learn of yet another officer suicide at CPD.
From which state to which state?
Hey, how are you?!
For safety reasons I won’t say it on RUclips.
@@The10CodeMindset understand
But I still want to know
Maybe one day
What they don't get is that bad cops get the good cops the real consequences.
I don't want to be micromanaged period!
Agreed
Have you seen people in their 40”s become Officers and stay a while ?
I absolutely have. I would say that patrol is overall a young person's game HOWEVER I've seen people in their 40's in better shape than some in their 20's. Have you seen this video about entering LE later in life...
ruclips.net/video/RaKIXW4m7B4/видео.htmlsi=UhYfs_S0Kq4IRzFS
P.s. i'm not a Police officer but i've seen things i wish i never saw
As your mind cannot unsee those things, it can cope in a healthy way. I hope you are doing well with that.
Aliens??? UFO???
I don’t mind the danger
👋
I’d respond to it in a heartbeat because it was needed (obviously at times), but didn’t live for it. Speaking for me only. Are you former LEO or still on?
Bro you look tired as hell.
Oh I definitely was 😄
Wasn’t sleeping very well then
@@The10CodeMindset Are you sleeping better nowadays?
@@CobaltFyrestone Yes, thank you.
@@The10CodeMindset he's probably stealing cocaine out the evidence locker or he just a regular drunkard pig
What about money? Does it provide a good living
You can live off it yes, but let’s just say people don’t typically get into law enforcement for the money. Some agencies pay more than others
That’s a big no for me bruh 🚮🤣
😄
What rational and sane person would even consider becoming a cop? After watching countless body cam videos, I know law enforcement is no longer considered an honorable and respectful profession. Nowadays, it would take a lunatic to ever dream of becoming a peace officer. In reality, there are several RUclips channels dedicated to exposing ignorant cops who are ignorant of the rights citizens have in the United States. Many cops in this country don't even know the laws. I highly recommend taking a screenshot of this list of RUclips channels and then doing a search for them here on RUclips. Because then, you can become more knowledgeable about the tyranny that is taking place in this country. Cops are earning the hate. Wake up america!

You could do something productive with your life instead of arresting poor drug addicts/homeless people.
There’s nothing more productive than that
not everyone is cut out to deal with people like that u gotta give cops some credit they got a really stressful dangerous job
