Why'd this police officer take it there?! [Columbus Ohio]
There are a few issues for someone significantly older joining, and not just physical. Overall yes there is more maturity and more overall knowledge and experiences, but it's also on average harder to learn new things, you get set in your ways and it's harder to see things from a different point of view, same issue why the Military prefers recruiting young. More than that, if you're joining the police somewhere around 40 a lot of your colleagues and superiors will see your change as a form of Mid Life Crisis, and that's not an entirely unjustified view, you're asking them to trust you and potentially put their lives in your hands when they think you're there to basically scratch an itch and show you can still hang with the young crowd, you have to work twice as hard to prove you're serious.
This is fantastic advice for life in general. Be open to new opinions and making changes. Just because something has always been done one way, doesn't mean it's going to stay the best way forever. I cherish when new employees question why things are done in what seems to be an inefficient way. It gives me the opportunity to improve my department or an opportunity to explain to them the exact reasons why something must be done a certain way.
I appreciate you providing your input on this!
@@The10CodeMindset thank you for offering all the advice you do!
Not what I thought the video was going to be about. Good video thanks Officer!
Even though it wasn't what you would thought it would be, I'm glad you liked it. Thanks! Hard to believe I made this 3ish years ago.
@@The10CodeMindset I thought you were talking about the inside, hope you are doing and feeling good, I'm a fan of your work!
@@jakejudson8578 Oh, haha, whoops! Yeah I can see how that text in the thumbnail would make one think that. Yes, doing well. Heading out to TN soon to speak at a statewide School Resource Officer Conference. I don't work in law enforcement anymore, but do work with law enforcement now, nationwide. I know you didn't ask for all of that. HA! Thanks again!
I'll do what I can, thanks for being a Cop.
Thank you for these videos Scott, I just got off FTO at my first department ever and am now on solo patrol. So far, it's going great, and I'm loving it. You have helped me become a better cop so far!
I really appreciate that! You be well, do great!
Appreciate for making this video.
Thanks! I’m glad you liked it
I don’t want my officers looking like the people they arrest.
So true I was on patrol (FTO) for my SO for 5 1/2 months straight out of a live in academy for 6 months and with the stress of the academy and FTO near the end started to affect my family life and mental state. It took a 12 year FTO to sit me down and explain to me that the job is not worth losing your family over. So I took his advice went back to work the jail and work on my personal life so when I go back out again I will be far better off.
That’s absolutely commendable the FTO did that and the fact you took action. 💪 Thanks for sharing that.
Hey Scott! How much can a patrol officer make ? I've thought about going into law enforcement and taking criminal justice in college !
It depends on your area
Definitely depends on the area of the country. Out in California, entry pay could be $80K (per Indeed.com), but say in SC it’s avg of $52K. Wow, and in 2007 I started around 36K 😄😬

The Badged-Brethren R.I.C.O. is NOT your friend. You will become another of the mafias & the worst & most hypocritical of all mafias. Don't wear a policeman's costume unless that's what you are
Wow!
25 years on the job and I feel nothing anymore. I don’t want to appear weak or burden someone with my issues.
It’s not weakness at all to be bothered by something or many things, without knowing how to process them. You’re only human and we ourselves don’t always have the answers. And to those dedicated to helping others have fulfillment again, there is no burden. I recommend seeing a good therapist/coach, because it helped me more than once, when I was sinking. If you don’t know who to turn to, I know someone who can assist. Once again, it’s not weakness.
Bullies with badges evil and corrupt
Local departments need the ability to deport directly without the need for ICE. This fake "asylum" is ridiculous.
That seems like too much common sense. This administration won’t ever relinquish control of their authority to not have control of what’s going on at the border. I interviewed someone who knows first-hand what’s going on there: ruclips.net/video/b62XM12c7Kg/видео.htmlsi=f09QDd_T5AD_cdz8
I think cops need more power when dealing with violent criminals. Violent criminals get too many protections now days.
Well according to the Mayor of Boston, larceny shouldn’t even be prosecuted, so there we have it, more enabling criminal behavior. 🤦🏻♂️
They don’t make enough.i think it’s by design. They don’t want you poor enough you feel no motivation and they don’t want you making so much you have the freedom to enjoy life so much you want to leave or retire early
31 years old... am i too late to consider this as a good career? I have been known to be a good defuser of tense situations, and i am a natural leader. I love helping people, and am not afraid to defend myself or another in a hostile situation. Would it be wise of me to leave a career in the kitchen to pursue a law enforcement gig? Honestly this video has left me torn on my final decision.. any advice?
Have you been on a ride-along yet? I recommend that, and 31 is definitely not too old. I made a video about those entering later in life (as in not early twenties lol): ruclips.net/video/RaKIXW4m7B4/видео.htmlsi=cVrjKArPqoISycLH Good old fashioned pros and cons list can help gain some clarity too. I wish you the best. 👍👍
💯
Truth brother. Thank you.
Probably some of the realest advice. That’s how it is for me for pornography. I stopped finding why and just tell myself one day at a time.
Yes. One day at a time.
Truth. It can kill a body....a career.... a marriage and/or a family.
Yes it can, but thank goodness it’s never too late to begin the road and journey toward recovery.
❤I can’t thank you enough for these amazing tips Peace ☮️
I’m glad you found the video useful.
Im ordained, the badge stands for hypocrisy and thats pretty much it. If hypocrites die in the line of duty, they are still hypocrites and scripture does not speak kindly for hypocrites. If u want to enter heaven, id suggest not becoming a LEO. I got ordained to take cops salvation cuz all ive seen from them is bullying and hypocrisy.
Right! It's called handS on, not hand on. Hands...plural. not one hand to grah and a taser in the next
It’s way too risky. Not worth it in my opinion
One thing is true; Purell flowed like the Niagara Falls shortly after.
Hahahahahahahaha!!!! 💯
A MUST!!! I usually train after shift work but I want to discipline my mind to do it before because I hate waking up early with a passion
Haha! I hear ya, at least you get it in though. As you stated, a MUST
You speak the truth brother. As a LEO, you train to face the worst scenario. Never cheat yourself out of a rep, training or taking care of your mind & body
Absolutely! Thanks for adding that.
So you’re scared of everyone and want to hurt everyone? Be a cop then. You’ll fit right in with the rest of them. They all cry about the dangers of the job and how stressful it is. However they fail to realize their job isn’t that bad. They are ranked 23rd in the US for most dangerous jobs, behind groundskeepers, garbage collectors , construction workers and mechanics. Cops also get far more protection with equipment. The protection a LOT of people bring up is qualified immunity where cops can break laws and not be held accountable. They can completely destroy an innocent persons life and face no repercussions. Proving innocence from a cops is a task/bill of 10-20k normally and takes years. Cops just goes on and arrests more innocent people since accountability is lacking. So cops if you want respect then hold yourselves to higher standards like you say you do. Know the laws you are supposed to enforce. Don’t treat everyone you encounter as a threat or immediately guilty. Investigate first, do your job and remember you serve the PUBLIC. The public does not serve you.
Been doing it for 12 years. Don’t do it. Work stress is a real thing and then you deal with the politics and your own personal life. You will miss birthdays, holidays, and you will miss a majority of your children’s baseball games or whatever sport they play. You work 12 hour shifts and will always be tired. Get a regular 9-5 job so you can have weekends and holidays off 😂 it will be a better career choice. Also, keep in mind every time there is voting for a president, the media pushes out a police video that angers everyone and even though you didn’t do it, they all hate you too. Do what you want, but this is my very strong opinion 😂
I appreciate you keeping it real, and people must understand the reality of how tough it can be working holidays, birthdays, 12's, etc...and definitely put that into making their calculated decision. I'm glad Banning Sweatland touched on that in the video. 12 years is a good amount of time, are you pursuing another opportunity now?
@@The10CodeMindset Im up for promotion soon, so im probably going to do another 8 years and leave. I should also add that all because I don’t recommend the job anymore especially with how the world is today, I should at least add that I don’t necessarily hate the job. Nor should anybody bring that feeling of negativity to work either because you bring people down with you. I go to work still with a positive attitude and I get along with everyone. I just think it’s important for young people to understand one day you will have a family and you will miss time with them that you can’t get back. I missed the first 5 Christmas’ with my first son and now he’s 13 so it bothers me I can’t get that time back. Meanwhile you deal with families that hate each other while you’re missing time with yours. And yes, I already have something lined up for when I do leave. Good luck everyone, make your own decision and don’t base it off of what i or anyone else says. These are just our opinions as you can see, some people recommend the job while others don’t. 👍 stay safe out there
@@samurai_JD55 I appreciate your reply...valuable advice and input! You stay vigilant and healthy, and all the best when the promotion happens!
Thank you for your honest and candid answer.
I appreciate it.
Hey Scott great video. Would you mind sharing why you left?
Thanks! Glad you liked the video. The career wasn’t working out for my family anymore. As hard as it was to leave, I realized I had to put them first.
I got on a relatively new police agency. In one decade, they hired 2000 new cops. So, when I got on the job was fully staffed, and staffed with primarily young people who weren't going anywhere. Promotion through the ranks or detective was very difficult. With a generational process, people are still getting hired and retired in groups compared to continually. I may take a civilian-admin job just to keep busy. Some jobs (applicant investigation, pistol permits, fleet maintenance) are part time. I'm a big runner too; 40 miles weekly.
40 miles! Better you than me! 😄
that judge got a great kick out of it 😭
God dang temptation really got this man lol
Police are domestic terrorists. They are not usually held accountable for their actions
I heard about this today over the radio, I thought it was a joke😂😂
Thankyou Sir
I’m glad you found the video useful.
You are allowed to drive to your doctors office while suspended actually
The judge said otherwise lol
@BeboTVreal even judges don't know the law
There are not standard conditions and restrictions that apply to all suspended licenses. It is a case by case situation.
Many news outlets showed the footage but here is one link to the story: ruclips.net/video/1EJQALzHDu0/видео.htmlsi=fVnL__eNdDG0Fyje
My reason: I believe in the law and the constitution. I want to not only protect my community but protect the ideas of liberty, justice, and freedom. These things correspond strongly with my own personal values and those are worth upholding.
So you enjoy abusing citizens with dogs? Have you seen the grave injuries people have suffered by the mouths of K9s? You're a tyrant
Sincerely, the greatest possible gift you could bestow upon us would be, your eulogy. Personally, I find the idea of your magnum opus still consisting entirely of someone else’s content that you’ll claim credit for, one last time is, simply poetic.
Accountability and competence are 2 words that are never associated with police all over this country. It take 2 years to be a hairdresser but they slap a badge on every sciopath with an ego in 3 to 6 months. You're all tyrants and stand the biggest threat to the bill of rights. End qualified immunity and take lawsuits out of police pension funds. And the FOP is a giant conflict of interest.
Once upon a time if you broke your oath, you were put to death. Now if you break your oath, you get in less trouble if you didnt take an oath. Cant wait until our government collapses and we can uphold oaths again.
This lots a cops man when i seen this I laughed we need to put video cams in cop's cars too cuz, none of them have integrity
