Thank you kind sir, I am a 65 year old lady, living in the back of beyond, I knew in theory how to change a wheel just never done it before. All going ok loosened the nits by standing on the brace, jacked it up, got the nuts off, feeling pleased with myself, but then that wheel was not budging. Thanks to your video I used a hammer on the front an then a few hits from the inside, it came away. Spare now on, you are a life saver. 👏👏👏
I sat on my butt and alternated legs, kicking the tire about 20 times total before it popped loose. Everywhere the rim touched the hub was thoroughly rusted together. Everytime I kicked the tire, the wheel rotated a little giving me a new area to break free. I am 70 years old, so this is doable for almost anyone. Thanks for the tip.
I've found the best way for me is remove all but 2 lug nuts that are across from eachother. Loosen those but dont remove them. Jack the car up and put a old brake rotor underneath about halfway towards the inside of the car. Then lower the vehicle on the rotor slowly. I've gotten even the most stubborn wheels off that way. Nice video bud.
@@peterhandelson1193 yes Jack it up place the rotor underneath about halfway and release the jack slowly. Helps to hit the tire with a hammer when it's on the rotor to if it's still stuck.
There is method number 5 that we use with 40 tonne heavy trucks with flat tires at the roadside, and it works for cars as well if you don't have a heavy hammer available. If your vehicle has a spare wheel, then use that as a gentle battering ram. Just roll it at low speed into the wheel edge/tire of the stuck wheel. This works because the angle of impact is pretty much exactly 90 degrees and because a rolling wheel has a surprising amount of energy behind it due to its weight. I used this technique today when fitting the winter wheels on my 6 month old car where the alloys were about as stuck as any car I have ever seen with corrosion. You just have to be careful not to impact the surrounding bodywork and take care not to lose control of the spare on slopes. I must have done this a couple of hundred times over the years with stuck roadside flats and it always works and I have never damaged the bodywork yet. I have also done it with tractor tires with equal success.
I just wanted to comment here and say that none of the 4 methods worked for me. I went around my block 6 times and 1 wheel was still not coming off. A few CAREFUL rolling impacts with the a wheel/tire that was being replaced popped her off. I appreciate this tip that allowed me to do this without buying even more tools!!!
The kicking methods worked for me. If after all the methods in this video don't work, my next step would have been to discover oil where I live, become a millionaire, and just buy a new car.
None of those worked on my Xcursion. I had to loosen the rear tire lug nuts then put a 4x4 piece lumber with a jack at one end and force the tires apart. This worked easily and quickly. Beating on the tires, driving around with loose lug nuts, heating them, kicking them, lowering the jack quickly to drop it on the ground - none of that worked. On the front wheels, I was able to put a short piece of lumber between the tire and leaf springs and turn into it. That made the fronts pop off quickly. I hadnt taken off the wheels in about five years. I had redone the whole braking system and put new rims and tires on, then moved to a remote area where I barely log any miles on the truck compared to most people. Im glad I did this when I did cause if I had ever got a flat, I would have been screwed.
Makes it nice n easy when the first method works 😅. Had to give it a soft kick n there she goes. Thank you good sir, now i can put my new wheels on 😊🤝🏼
I just hammer the Fudge out of my gf's front wheels and I used rust penetrate oil and magic tricks...I finally got it out but I never thought of that number 4 tricks .....that's actually a good one
I tried the first and second method did absolutely nothing I don't really recommend the first method because you're kicking it towards the axle which really isn't going to do anything you wanted to go out words so the tire comes off but the third flask method worked perfect tire came right off after I had to whack it a little bit but it did get it unstuck it was on there very very bad it was on a police crown Victoria 2011 thank you so much for posting this video I would have never got it off.
But if it's a flat tire you sometimes can't get enough weight on it to pop it loose. Wedge something under the tire, like a piece of 4x4 wood, then lower it down.
I've always put anti seize on the hub face and lug threads and never had a problem. Living in the rust belt I would never put a wheel back on without it.
im currently dealing with that exact problem. Just bought a used car, its in a good condition but the guy never removed the fucking wheels. They just wont get off!! edit: took 2 days, 3 guys, a broken ratchet, a bent tire iron and a 4 foot long metal pipe
I appreciate your suggestions but to remove the right rear wheel on my 2011 F150 I used the vehicle jack between the leaf spring and the tire to pop it off. And Pop it did! Got er did.
Thanks for the video. Had to change a tire yesterday and it was a doozy. Kicked the crap out of that wheel but trying to see if there are any other options.
#4 usually works great for the really stuck on wheels, but not always and if it is a brake job you need to do, may not be the safest (in my case the brakes are not working fully). I did it in my driveway and even a little on the local street in front of my house since not really any traffic. Even swerving and trying to lock up the E brake it's not coming off. It's a jeep so I even tried rolling over some split pieces of wood to get it to bounce... still nothing. These were all with the lug nuts backed off a few turns and with spraying some PB blaster between the drum and the wheel. Going to try again using Austin Olson's suggestion below. Don't have an old brake rotor around but do have some old landscaping bricks which should do the trick. PBB has been on the wheel over night also so hopefully will come off. Wish me luck.
This method should work. Leave a slightly more gap with the lug nuts and go off a slight bump like a driveway going into a street. Do that a few times and you should here that magic pop when it breaks free. Worst case drive around hitting the worst bumps.
None of these options worked for me. I ended up using a farmer's jack and a 2x4 of an appropriate length to span the space between the two rear wheels, and push the stuck wheel off
or use a chisel/big screwdriver to wedge them off..None of above worked for me so I had to chisel off 4 wheels with big screwdrivers and a hammer... Now I have greased all contact surfaces and I will use a crowbar and sledge if this ever happens again. Yes salted roads my way.
Sounds like there is two separate problems. The wheel nuts are stuck either because they’re seized or over torqued, the brake would be stuck for another reason.
Soaked it with wd40 and drove back and forth on my driveway entrance. My driveway entrance has a 140 degree dip to it. Left 3 lug nuts halfway tightened.
I have a question for method 4, I stupidly lowered my left front wheel down without lug nuts on and it lowered but kind of went on a slant inward for a few seconds and I raised it back up, didn’t hear anything happen really it just did not look right, wondering if I should be worried lol
Sledgehammer worked for me. Tyre was rusted on to fuck. Popped the new wheel on for now, but will change the breaks in a week or so after i get some other stuff i need for my car
Nah nah nah forget what everyone is saying this is it. Just put transmission fluid on hit wait a few minutes hit the wheel with a hammer, should come off about third swing. Most seized up wheel I ever had did that and 3 swings and she popped right off! Save yourself the trouble!

Just tried this and it worked a treat thanks 🙏 I’m in my 60s So thought this method safe for my age 😂
I feel Method 1 should work for everyone, just be patient and don't be afraid to kick hard. Thanks for this life saving video

Tire was seized and wouldn't budge. Watched this and drove the car not even 10 feet and heard it come loose. Thanks for the advice!

This video was so much help. Not only because my driver's side rear wheel is seized, also because I've got the same truck

No problem, happy to help! Actually the first method works as a lever, so when hitting the one side, it'll kick out the opposite side.
Method #1 all the way! thanks for the video.
Right on and happy to help!
Very Helpful. rove about 10 feet forward andnswerved to the right. Wheel broke loose immediately.
Happy to hear it worked, thank you for the feedback!
Thank you! I did the kicking it backwards one and it worked! Thank you. ❤
Happy to help!
Thanks for the video. Method #4 +#3 worked.
Awesome to hear and thank you for the feedback!
Perfect. Thank you for posting
My pleasure!

Sledgehammer on inner sidewall worked great, thanks! 👍
You saved me! Thank you! I sat down and starting kicking and it came off
I always used a 4 foot 4x4 post. Couple hits usually did the trick. Always had a couple handy on the tow truck.
I read this and laughed, my apologies, 2 hits from the 4x4x4 and it popped right off.
I think it must have to do with the shape of the 4x4
Thank you.
@@peterhandelson1193 A little 4 wheel drive truck would be capable of doing the same thing. Lol

great suggestions, but now what do we try next. Wheel still stuck. drove for two days with only two lug nuts tight, soaked with wd 40?

If you are in a pinch and don’t have a hammer, use your spare tire. It works amazingly well.

Yes I am. What is your question?
Loosen the nut and drive left and right till it’s loose slowly
I cant drive it and its completely stuck
#4 is no use if the tyre is flat.

Yep same here non of these work for a tire that's actually stuck and flat.
None of these worked . Im taking it to the dealership.

Driving off the wheel will damage the rim in most cases creating a shake .. Just go to Walmart if sledge hammer fails
