@@Daktangle I think its because of his first trunks dub was so shit, so garbage, he thought he didnt deserve to do the dub once again, lets just say, that first dub is complete crap, but that was in his puberty so its understandable.
If you think about it, Krillin’s suggestion to Bulma that she should’ve just bitched at Vegeta is what she eventually does and it WORKS 😂

I like to imagine it's a mixture of wholesome friendship and just trying to make deadlines "Kaiser, you're amazing, we love you, you can do this, and if you drag this out any longer, the fanbase will hunt us down and eat our kidneys. Now, get in the booth."
By the way, if Guru can sense the five Ginyus (which includes Guldo at 10.000PL), that means he ALSO would have sense Freeza, Dodoria, Cui, Vegeta, Zarbon when THEY approached the planet. And he made it a CONSCIOUS decision not to warn his people in advance.
Just sayin. He WAS the evil half.
To be fair, all they would have been able to do is gather the dragonballs and wish themselves away, but to where? They'd just be found again without a bargaining chip. Sensing the humans on their way and hoping for the best probably worked out better than warning his people. XD

The fact that Lani and Taka had to outright *_trick_* and even to a certain extent force Kaiser into playing Trunks is honestly both hilarious and heartwarming. They know he'd make an awesome Trunks, and they were adamant about that all the way through.
That's some tough love right there.
This is what makes casting directors the unsung heroes in voice work, it’s their job to pull things out of you that you never knew you had.
Same thing happened to Kevin conroy when voicing Batman. Dude had 0 voice acting experience and was mainly a stage actor and just saw the career as a side gig.
Dude was ADAMANT on playing commissioner Gordon and other smaller roles while his casting director kept pushing and prodding over and over again that Kevin IS Batman before he was ever even officially Batman, and the rest is history.

I loved the "Naaaaaail. Slap Him" line. Nail understands Guru so well, and this is one of the few times Nail doesn’t give Guru any backchat and just immediately follows his orders.
It's simultaneously satisfying AND disappointing.

The look on Vegeta's face as Gohan says "I need an adult" is absolutely priceless, well done on Kaiser for finding the perfect shot to sell the joke. xD
That "Za Worldo" joke has aged like fine ambrosia.
I literally just got to the part in jojo where they returned the favor with a crapbaskets line. I double checked both the sub and dub and they both have it.
Za Warudo was an old joke even before Jojo took off in the states.

I love that "So that's a dragon ball" delivery. It's weird enough to be funny without being out of place.
Kaiser's voice for Trunks is literally perfect. The right choice was made. Thank you for getting him to go through with it!
It's really evident after seeing all these that Kaiser is a bit of a perfectionist with how much he kicks himself over everything in the past and in the present.
I can easily see Lani and Taka dragging a tied up Kaiser with a purple wig to the recording booth while he's screaming NOOOOOO!!!

That "NOOOOOOOO!" Was later used in the show.
They gave him the jacket and sword the first time. That didn't end so well...
I literally quote "I'm gonna go pay him a beating" whenever I have the opportunity. It may be one of this show's best jokes.
"I only hit you because I have pent up aggression against your father. ... Take that." - Easily one of my favorite lines in the series, among many others.
Think about the length of that Vegeta scream and how he would have had to do that AFTER having been in the water holding his breath for a few minutes... He's using literally only rage energy. No air. Only rage.
That hindsight comment hits so hard. It's so easy to claim you could do better, but first of all you have to be able to come up with all the things surrounding it, its not like you're being popped into a writing room with everything ready for you, you're effectively in a vacuum and have to build from 0.
Secondly, what Taka said about hindsight, IN the midst of it, a lot of things can happen, pressure, deadlines, tunnel vision, writers block, etc.
I almost feel like when people suggest that, they probably don't realize they mean they could do a good *editor* job, and while that can be a critical role in it's own right, I'm NOT trying to downplay them, there's probably a reason they're editors and not writers themselves.
I guess I'm odd in that I like the idea that Ghost Nappa is real, not just a figment of Vegeta's fragile sanity

@@Taishawn24.7 Honestly could apply to Dragon Ball fans as well and i'm guilty of it as well by claiming i would have written the show better because of hindsight.
It also makes the claim that DBZA writing being better in the original kind of stupid because the TFS guys had decades of hindsight to rewrite parts to make the show better. Meanwhile when Toriyama was making the show he had a ton more to deal with from animation, planning out a lot of the story, writing, having to deal with a strict schedule. There are literally DBZA episodes one year apart from each other and the episode is like 15 to 20 minutes, Toriyama and his team had to make an episode every week for like eight years. TFS literally cut out entire episodes and didn't had to animate anything from scratch, they just had to edit the shots (which to be fair, takes a lot of work and i'm not taking anything from Scott) that were made by the animation team .
Of course this doesn't excuse a lot of the questionable writing and misuse of characters which you don't need hindsight to know that it was handled poorly, but people should go a little easier on Toriyama.
Everyone forgets that nail had a power level of 90,000 and could have easily bodied vegeta and most of the ginyu force
I really wish we'd gotten to see Nail body some of Frieza's men. That's probably my personal biggest issue with DBZ, especially during the first two sagas of the show. Characters exist in a scenario just to kick the shit out of most the cast while we wait for Goku to arrive and one-tap the minions. Luckily, Toriyama dropped that after the Namek saga. I don't even remember an instant of that happening in Super.
Actually, Nail's power level was stated to be 42,000 in Chapter 286 of the manga. Either way, Nail would've bodied Vegeta who had a power level of ~30,000 before the fight against the Ginyu Force.

@@jacobharris378 Zamasu was defeated by Trunks. Beerus wasn't really defeated at all. He was just testing Goku. But that's still one of my biggest issues with the first two arcs of Super. They're very Goku-centric. As for Jiran... yeah, no shit. He was a mortal that had surpassed god-level. Even then, Goku didn't defeat Jiran. 17, Frieza, and Gohan did. The Tournament of Power gave so many different characters tons of love.
What you guys did with Recoome is the best decision in DBZA in my opinion. I love his character so much and it still cracks me up.

Gohan was able to sense and differentiate people through their ki, while Vegeta only could tell someone was there.

To be clear, he DID have to get the steam roller from somewhere and it absolutely WASN'T from Namek.
If my pleb math is correct, if Vegeta's scream traveled for 20 years before it reached earth, assuming it could sustain that long without dying out (and travel through space at the same speed/distance as it does through air), the distance between Namek and Earth would round up to about 220 000 000 kilometers. Or 0.0022% of one Lightyear.
Which, would place Namek between Mars and Jupiter.
A bit over 1/4 of the distance from earth to Jupiter, which is 778 000 000 kilometers from Earth.
If that’s true then when mr popo showed Bulma how fast the ship could go, they went past namek to get to Jupiter.

I _totally_ forgot that they had that *whole episode* fighting Guldo. DBZA has a way of streamlining things down to just the key memories I remember from watching the show as a youth.
I love how Vegeta got *so angry* that even the very laws of physics, time, space, and even the boundaries of *life and death* just said "Yeah, we're gonna let that one slide..."
Lani truly is one of a kind. Only Sam Kinison (may he rest in peace) could have truly challenged him.

I found this line hilarious, it's next to the next few lines of dialogue he says that ends with "Oh God, I cannot shut up when I'm scared"
until these commentaries i never really *knew* the spot Lani hurt his voice during The Scream. Now it makes me cringe a little imagining how much pain that must have been. AND HE KEPT GOING. Lani MVP
Taka and Lani having a low key conspiracy to get Kaiser to play Trunks makes the scream joke so much better.
It's also a bit wholesome, cause hyping up their homie. ☺️
with the way that the Ginyus acted like their life was a TV show, or multiple TV shows. now I kinda wish that the joke had kind of continued more into HFIL so that they had like, The Office-style talking heads segments.
That would be fun. A bit of a (pseudo) reality show aspect. The characters complain about each other in sit-down interviews. Real Housewives (Housemates?) of HFIL.
All the Krillin and Vegeta banter makes me think of Rattrap and Dinobot's bickering from Beast Wars since those two characters also shared a VA. So all their scenes together are just Scott McNeil yelling at himself.
I remember Nick saying he almost killed his vocal cords in that scene and Curtis is right, Ganxingba absolutely crushed it as Recoome
I like to think Ghost Nappa is a symptom of Vegeta being beaten on Earth. And then whenever he's in a stressful situation, he appears again. The first time he shows up, Vegeta's barely clinging on to life. He's beaten *bad.* It's like a PTSD induced hallucination. Nappa is the embodiment of defeat... and also Nappa screwing everything up. But mostly defeat. And that agony of defeat doesn't go away for good until he gives up trying to play the badass with Freeza and then when Nappa returns from the dead.
You see how Ghost Nappa appears much more after Vegeta's moment of pure rage.
Yeah it would've been better if Ghost Nappa only appeared after the mental break, but it still works.
i love that this Vegeta thinks he could take Nail. Nail would have stomped him so hard still at this point.
Yea I remember that he was stronger then both Zarbon and Dodoria. And could've easily taken them out. I wonder if in canon he ever got his potential unlocked I don't remember it ever stating it.
@@fidelgarcia2224 yeah its never stated, but ive always headcanoned that he did. it explains why hes over 10x stronger than the second strongest Namekian on the planet and helps me logic how he made Piccolo so strong when they merged.
I think my favorite part of Vegeta's character in this series. If anyone greets him, even if they're enemies or he hates them, he will have some sort of response for them. Including "Hi Ginyu" offhandedly before he realizes what just happened
Probably my favorite part of watching these creator reactions is finding out that no one person carried the series on their back. All the guys in TFS were absolutely essential in the making of this. Kaiser's editing, Taka's comedy writing, and Lani and Masako's exceptional performances are foundational pieces that made the show what it is. And that's before all the other amazing talent that they cast over the years too.
That Catholic joke aged so well that the priests now want nothing to do with it anymore.

Ah yes the greatest recurring joke. Ghost Napa. I'm excited to see how far it goes.
For what is worth, that always seemed to be the case given Vegeta's own story. Unlike Piccolo who is actually alone most of the time, Vegeta is mostly alone with his own thoughts when he's in a bad situation. Like the whole "Zarbon doing things to Vegeta" bit, or even the very first bit of "You were saying", both happen in moments where Vegeta is clearly not mentally well. So technically, outside of the very beginning, it's never actually set in the story whether he ever was an actual ghost or just Vegeta losing his mind.
The only thing i would say it's "bad" is that it was set to be a ghost from the start, that's like the ONLY thing that i said could have been better in hindsight, to never say it was a ghost until he snaps at Krillin, to actually keep the implication that he was never meant to be a ghost.
Lol! I love Lani and Taka writing the Trunks bit to make Kaiser accept the role of Trunks 😂 I’m so glad they pushed him so hard to do it, since I love his Trunks
Thinking of King Yemma having kids makes me think that the teenage kid that becomes Janemba is his teenage son, it IS like 10 years later in the series, and he’s a shitty worker who’s Red with horns, the boss’s son type situation lmao! Thats my personal canon now 🤣🤣
Recume's "YES! IN YOUR FACE!!" Is one of my favorite deliveries in the whole show. I use the clip a lot and it cracks me up every time.

That scream is one of my legendary top 5 moments from DBZ Abridged, it was funny enough to have Vegeta screaming like a maniac, but then to have so many people from varying distances hear him was a stroke of genius.
i love the fast fly away cuts like the i need an adult scene. its so funny to hear the WHOOSH and then end scene cut.

Now there's a captain who trusts his men. He tells them to be back by 5 AM, knowing he can trust them to finish and be rested as long as they're back before revelry.
When I was a kid, not even in high school yet and an older friend-of-a-friend was hanging out by himself at a party and he was watching this episode on his laptop. I was like oh, he's watching dragonb- wait what I don't remember a spinning wheel thing in that scene what? I went over to him and asked about it and he was like "...Don't tell your mother about this show but here" and passed me an earbud. Glorious bits in this episode, got me into DBZA way back then and now I've graduated college. Feel old yet?
One thing that I would have loved to see if They would have had Trunks mention Vegeta's scream just off hand

When I first heard Kaiser say that his Trunks wasn’t good enough, I was appalled. The dude was so close to the original and in some ways even better.

I feel it's important to note that I'm working from home today and put this on as background noise, but I'm autistic AF and have perseverance and echolalia. And I had headphones in and just did my best Guru "NAAAAAIIIIIIIIL" impression and it scared my cat

DBZA Trunks is literally my favorite Trunks voice ever.
I love the underwater animation in this Anime. Its great for the time it was released.

Personal headcanon is that after Namek, Nail spent a good month just ranting about his career with Guru, which is why Piccolo has no patience for him at first
the weirdest appearance of this trope in cartoons was the Pryde Of The X-Men with Wolverine who, and this should not be an obscure fact to anyone, is canonically Canadian, and a former member of a Canadian superhero team
but there he was, being played by an American VA doing an Australian accent
Watching Taka cackle at the jokes he wrote as well as help write just brings a new joy to this series. 10 out of 10 would watch this way again.
All of Ghost Nappa is still one of my favorite jokes even if you guys hate it.
I like the implication that Vegeta carries around dog biscuits on his person at all times, either because he likes to feed stray space dogs or in case he fights someone short he can throw them at. Either or works for my funny bone

Funny thing is, i saw DBZA YEARSSSS before i watched Jojo, so when the whole steamroller thing happened i LOST MY DAMN MIND laughing
