Yes, in this day and age with car tech the way it is there is always going to be a less expensive corollary to the luxury model. Take the VW Atlas to the Audi Q7, or the RAV4 to the Lexus NX, etc. But there is a reason why the luxury versions of cars sell, and it’s to a different consumer. If you care about things like open pore wood, premium sound systems, higher quality leather, and more dramatic styling, then the luxury version will be for you. But if you are someone that doesn’t care about those things, you would be crazy to pay the premium.

I was fine with the touchpad, no fingerprints and you get used to it. They did eliminate satellite radio, which is the opposite of a "fix". I was set to replace my 2022 MDX with a new 2025, but hard no without satellite radio.
Regarding the a/c in the 3rd row..Today an Acura salesperson told me the a/c is behind the feet and in the second row it’s behind the feet and in the center console. I’m not sure if this is accurate because I didn’t look at the floor in the 3rd row to see the vents. I should have.
I saw a 4cylinder MDX on a used car lot. It was a 2020 and I was totally surprised to see that. Will Acura make 4 cylinder MDX in their fleet. It had great performance?
That was the smaller Acura RDX with a 2.0L turbo. All MDXs come with a NA V-6 engine, the +22 MDX Type-S have a Turbo V-6 , and the 17-20 MDX Sport Hybrid had a V-6.
Does Acura RDX 2025 model also going to have the touch screen and B&O audio system, and when are they going to be available in the market for sale @CarConfections
We haven't heard any official updates from Acura as to what their future plans are for the RDX. It's about time for a full-redesign which anticipate seeing for 2025 or 2026 model year
How is a luxury brand not offer heated seats and heads up display as standard? Did they make rear-cross traffic alert optional too? Typical Honda as of lately.
WOW -- Acura once takes two steps forward and then one step back. $76K and no read ventilated seats and no 3rd rows AC vents? What boneheaded would drop that kind of $$$$$ on this? So many other choices……
Vents for the 3rd row that will be occupied maybe 5% of the time? Ventilated 2nd row my kids won't even have the option of feeling through their booster seats for several years?? I was also interested in the GLS 580, but between euro-reliability and a review showing the "power" seats folding (super slow, and what happens if/when the motor dies?) vs. the speedy manual simplicity in the MDX, lost interest. To answer your question: those more concerned about others' perception. I'll take what works as expected... when expected... any day.
@@MixedG80 adults sit in the 2nd row as well! As for the 3rd row, why does Acura MDX even have it if they are going to do it half-ass. Don’t defend them. This is a $76K vehicle and will be compared to everything else in that range. They did a nice job on the interior as a whole, but then dropped the ball. I leased two Acuras (TSX) back around 2010. Great cars but I went back to their Honda “cousin” because dollar for dollar the Honda was better equipped. I love the handling of the Acura but you could see Honda was putting more efforts into their main brand back then. Admittedly Pilots still do not have 2nd row ventilated seats even on the top trim while every other 3-row SUV does on their top trims. Money is money and I will go for the tech and features over a racy engine and handling any day, and without paying for premium gas! And even the guys pointed this out!
@@FunAtDisney I can only talk about my preferences and those with similar ones that have family including small kids. Adults will rarely ride in my back seat, and when they do, it likely won't be for any duration that will have them wondering why their seats aren't ventilated. The 3rd row isn't half-ass, it's what's possible without making the vehicle huge (which is precisely why I'm not really considering the new TX or larger vehicles), and will handle my kids (should adults need the 2nd row) or their little friends comfortably if I need to haul some around. If we really want to point out feature disparities, where are the [good] massaging seats in competing $76k models? Just me, but that was money much better spent (that will be used regularly) vs. cooling 2nd row seats. There will always be feature trade-offs, even when one spends in the stratosphere, but as it stands what Acura chose to invest in appeals best to what I'm looking for. Now to your point, why they changed the already outstanding ELS system is a mystery; that money could have gone towards ventilated 2nd row seats or any number of other tweaks, which is the real opportunity missed IMHO.
not really, it's par for the course in this class (barring the TX, which is also notably larger), and always something I considered a "there when needed" feature to either move more kids with or fit some extra adults in a pinch. I'm not interested in driving a boat on wheels, but only driving ~5-6k mi/yr total and living in the city, need a "do it all" vehicle that checks several boxes. All reviews I've seen suggest as a driver's car, it's in a different league with the models you mentioned.
The Mazda CX-90 Turbo S Premium Plus (top of the line model) with rear wheel biased AWD, quilted Nappa Leather, heated and cooled front and middle row seats, 340 hp and 369 lb ft of torque has a lower MSRP than the Acura FWD Technology at $56,300 plus freight. You would have to be a fool to buy this over the Mazda.
agreed they should extend the open pore wood on the Type S and Advanced trims, and on the A spec they should extend the brushed aluminum or textured aluminum trim it will feel a lot more premium than the piano black plastic
Some nice updates, especially the tech, but the overall design is feeling a bit dated relative to the competition. At this price they are bumping up against the Germans, who pretty much defined the luxury SUV segment and Acura doesn't have the same prestige as of yet.
When the performance is as garbage as this, they didn't fix anything. Even a base model X5 xDrive 40i blows this "performance" model Type S away, much less any of the more potent versions of the X5. This and the TLX Type S are both incredibly underwhelming, weak efforts from Acura.
I really appreciate the update of the MDX, mostly the infotainment updates. The blue interior looks great(but cmon Acura, thats waayyy too much black piano plastic fantastic to considered in the luxury class). The major elephant in the room for the Acura: The BMW X5 exists for the same money and is standard with B58 power. It probably has better lease terms as well. And has a better interior.
I think the BMW is a different buyer. For one, it no longer offers a third row. For me personally, a BMW is a car you lease, and an Acura is a car you purchase and keep for a longer time. Maintenance on European cars will start to drain your bank account after about 5 years. Also, the MDX is quite a bit less expensive if you compare apples to apples. To get all of the features on the MDX Type S on an X5 it would much more expensive. I can afford the Type S, I will probably keep it 8 or 9 years and I like knowing I am getting the top model with all of the goodies. But another buyer might say that the BMW nameplate and performance is more important to them, and are willing to settle for less options. Two different approaches.
Yeah. The center dash could still use a cleaner design without piano black. Don't know why they put so much of it. It shouldn't be in a luxury vehicle.
@@FirstHillSeattle We'll see how long this Gen of Acura lasts. The prior gen V6 conrod bearing failures, 10 speed transmission failures, have me questioning their reliability. So far the B58/ZF8 combo on the X5 has been pretty good.
Meh, the exterior design doesn’t wow for the price, especially the back end. Need A C U R A spelled out at least. The console has no good place to put your right hand either.
Is the other guy in the video , not doing any narrating , the same brother that were in the other older videos ? If yes, then they look very different.
What kind of off-road can we talk about when this car now has such a huge front overhang and the turbine radiators and something else are located so low? I also dare to assure you that with such open radiator grilles you will be tired of washing them! And if you do not wash them, then after a certain time, not immediately, the engine will start to overheat, well, and then you yourself understand .... I would also like to note another "saving" from Honda - these are the rear turn signals - you could have made them even smaller! 🤦♂️ Why couldn't they put double LEDs in that long strip at the bottom, where the side lights are, like Audi does? This car already costs as much as a European premium class, but Honda is still thinking about how and where to save money!
The seats have a massage function, but the lower cushion does not extend, it is quite lumpy, so your knees hanging in the air will quickly get tired if you drive a long distance. The gearbox button block is now practically on the dashboard, like in a minibus, which is very far. The gearbox control should be at hand, like on the 2016 model, instead there is a huge platform for the phone and some other incomprehensible niche for small items! 🤦♂️ For the same reason, this model has now lost the huge and, admittedly, very convenient box between the seats - instead of it there is some kind of cut-down box, to open it, you need to twist your right hand. And the bag now does not fit in there. I do not understand why they redo something that was good? Honda fired the person who was responsible for ergonomics? They should have improved the suspension, brakes, and build quality - the gaps between the body parts are so crooked that it looks like it was assembled by 3 drunk Mexicans after a serious accident! And this is a 70+K car.
Agreed! By all accounts the 3d sig was an outstanding system; why fix what wasn' broken, especially when the money could have been applied to other improvements...
Why can’t you full screen the nav in the gauge cluster. Why does it have to be so small? Sure, they got rid of the track pad and the small side screen, but why do they have to “nickle and dime” their updates? It’s that and a few other issues that’s just lack-luster..It’s just still not there yet.
Don’t get me wrong engineering background I think the Acura MDXS type is very nice but I’m still gonna pass and get the BMW X5 M 60 I When you get it new there’s about a $20,000 price difference but when you get it used it’s less than a $10,000 difference For that $10,000 you get a V8 instead of a V6 and you get 500 hp instead of 350 on top of that your ranges 400 miles instead of 310 .
I don't see why the honda pilot cant have a 365hp engine with 400hp of torque, with 20+MPG,, unless its purely just to try to create a false scarcity for performance, which i beleive is the case.
Minivan is the best way to go if you want really good 3rd row seating for adults. Even in a Chevy Tahoe, I don't like to sit in the 3rd row for longer trips. A Lexus TX 3rd row will be better than the Acura MDX 3rd row, but they both are still not very good for long trips for most adults.
Incredibly disappointed. I’m a 2023 Honda Pilot Touring owner, this is a downgrade with no 3rd row ventilation on the third row. That’s not even safe for your kids rating here in Texas; that’s a saving grace for my kiddos, although I wish the vents were ceiling mounted in our 2023 Pilot. For this price second row seat ventilation should be standard. I honestly don’t know who this car is for. As cool as the Acura styling has gotten, I wouldn’t recommend for parents of 3 kids.
The MDX is such a weird car to me. The new one(base model) looks really nice and modern to me but for some reason there's also a huge soccer mom vibe about it despite how large and tanky it looks. I can appreciate the car when I see someone drive it because again its a slick looking car but I don't ever see myself owning one because of how large and slow the car is. In fact I exclusively avoid very large or heavy cars(anything over 3000lbs) now ever since I got to drive a decently light vehicle.

@@mrgold3591 Thanks for the info!
Does Acura RDX 2025 model also going to have the touch screen and B&O audio system, and when are they going to be available in the market for sale @CarConfections
We haven't heard any official updates from Acura as to what their future plans are for the RDX. It's about time for a full-redesign which anticipate seeing for 2025 or 2026 model year
Will this come with SiriusXM satellite radio?
Great review. Nice lanyard. Where can I get one?
Thanks! Have no idea... Acura gave it to us
I like the Acura MDX but I also like the Lexus Texas
Is the engine still with timing belt instead of timing chain ? Do the backside windows one touch down/up or not ?
Definitely timing belt. It would require a complete engine redesign, which Honda hardly ever does on a refresh
77k for a FWD honda pilot is just nuts…… I will take a GV80 or a X5 any day
It’s very nice! I like the blue interior
How is a luxury brand not offer heated seats and heads up display as standard? Did they make rear-cross traffic alert optional too? Typical Honda as of lately.
I have the Type S and it has the HUD and heated and cooled seats.
They don't show this interior as an option on their website ????
Would be nice if Acura could get those mpg numbers up to par.
Yes of course guys & I'm ready to afford this.
You guys hanging out the windows is giving me street takeover vibes!
😂
I hope Acura can come to Germany too.
Way too expensive for what you get. Why would anyone choose an mdx type-s over a genesis gv70 3.5t or a bmw x3 m40i?
Genesis are garbage, and you should compare a X5 vs this, not a X3
For sure way too expensive! Give us the bigger engine without the frills on the regular MDX
Does it still have the annoying VCM and auto start/stop?
Yes
*Type S* *very good price* *awesome car* *It's a pity it's not available in Europe* #officially...
Acura, if you put that big of a wheel with low profile tire, please throw in some sport/lowering springs to make that wheel gap much smaller..
You should get the TL then. Some of us will take this think camping and through gravel roads.
They should’ve kept the hand rest. Honestly thats gonna keep me from upgrading from my 22 to this.
Insane that the third row is so bad despite this thing being 4" longer than the older generation and the same size as the pilot of telluride.
not really, it's par for the course in this class (barring the TX, which is also notably larger), and always something I considered a "there when needed" feature to either move more kids with or fit some extra adults in a pinch. I'm not interested in driving a boat on wheels, but only driving ~5-6k mi/yr total and living in the city, need a "do it all" vehicle that checks several boxes. All reviews I've seen suggest as a driver's car, it's in a different league with the models you mentioned.
31 speakers but can't add couple airvents in the back.
Really.???
Does Mazda has air suspension, 31 speakers, massaging front seats..???
@@thomasp3029 no, but it has premium leather interior instead of leatherette and will blow the doors off the Acura.
The Mazda is a compellingly option in this segment.
@@thomasp3029not the point 🤨
Yes too the CX-90
Get rid of the piano black. Otherwise, it's a nice SUV.
Now they just need to get rid of the piano black trim.
agreed they should extend the open pore wood on the Type S and Advanced trims, and on the A spec they should extend the brushed aluminum or textured aluminum trim it will feel a lot more premium than the piano black plastic
Wood is played out@philipemekaorjiako5342
Although I hate Auto makers remove all the physical buttons, but I feel Acura did the opposite direction which proves too much buttons 😅
We want GRAND PILOT AND GRAND MDX PLUS THEIR HYBRID OPTIONS. Honda has hybrid for small cars but don’t want to make for the big ones
Some nice updates, especially the tech, but the overall design is feeling a bit dated relative to the competition. At this price they are bumping up against the Germans, who pretty much defined the luxury SUV segment and Acura doesn't have the same prestige as of yet.
Ppl complaining about the third row but compare this to SUVs with NO third row like x5....
Honda Pilot for more family oriented and rear A/c vents
Do you really need auto lane change feature?🤔
No one can’t compete to the 4Runners - miles 120000 still asking for upper 25,000 to 30,000
Sunroofs in areas where there is golf ball size hail isn’t good.
That's a whole lot of elephant in the room right there.
Meh, the exterior design doesn’t wow for the price, especially the back end. Need A C U R A spelled out at least. The console has no good place to put your right hand either.
Is the other guy in the video , not doing any narrating , the same brother that were in the other older videos ? If yes, then they look very different.
That's Josh and he's not related to Mason and Drew
There is no spare on the S, run flat tires only, might be a deal killer.
Damn I have to wait another 3 years to buy this used. I don't like to buy first year so 4 years.
For 3k more just get Lexus TX bigger car faster tech. New design.
Can’t believe they moved away from els
Agreed! By all accounts the 3d sig was an outstanding system; why fix what wasn' broken, especially when the money could have been applied to other improvements...
@MixedG80 exactly, I hope the new system is a serious improvement. If it's only marginally better I'd say it's a waste
Why can’t you full screen the nav in the gauge cluster. Why does it have to be so small? Sure, they got rid of the track pad and the small side screen, but why do they have to “nickle and dime” their updates? It’s that and a few other issues that’s just lack-luster..It’s just still not there yet.
Why would they keep the piano black?? 😩 Can we bring back wood but just don’t make it look tacky
Don’t get me wrong engineering background I think the Acura MDXS type is very nice but I’m still gonna pass and get the BMW X5 M 60 I
When you get it new there’s about a $20,000 price difference but when you get it used it’s less than a $10,000 difference
For that $10,000 you get a V8 instead of a V6 and you get 500 hp instead of 350 on top of that your ranges 400 miles instead of 310 .
I don't see why the honda pilot cant have a 365hp engine with 400hp of torque, with 20+MPG,, unless its purely just to try to create a false scarcity for performance, which i beleive is the case.
I think I’m gonna get 2023-2024 models to save a few bucks. The new wheels look hideous.
Thank god for the prices😢
Maybe I will trade my rxd for this..
Hi where is the lower models please not saying the basic the tech and a spec it’s important to us it will greatly appreciate it thank u
So disappointed that this color is not available in the base or a-spec model. Shame on Acura 😢😢😢
Well they nixed the track pad but kept that lame gear selector
My dreams card
75Gs and no rear ventilated seats...bummer
Way too cramped 2nd row. Depreciates like a rock.
I really like this SUV. But not enough to drop $75K!
$76,900 a lot of money for a boatload of piano black.
Still no hybrid come on Acura
I liked this vehicle until he said no 3rd row air vents
3rd row have air vents, they're under the 2nd row seats
This model or the new GX550 Premium +? and why?
This
Big mistake. No hybrid? We. Need hybrid!
Looks espectacular 😳
Listen guys if auto manufacturers are going to add 3rd row, it shd accommodate adults
That's why I purchased a Lexus TX and didn't even consider an MDX. I needed a usable third row.
Finally, a touchscreen!!! Touchpads and dials are lame.
Lexus and Acura have surrendered. Mazda is the last hold out! 😆🤣
Acura needs hybrids so bad
