GG is far too busy dominating the fretboard to take the time to get a haircut or shave, and I love it! A wizard should look like a wizard. I think a robe may be in order 🧙♂️
To solo for nearly 2 mins straight and to continue to keep it fresh throughout its entirety, truly remarkable. I think most people don't realise that he's improvising here.
Guthrie looks like an ancient wizard that lives atop a mystical mountain, moving boulders and bending plants to his will just by using his magical guitar spells. Also I did meet him back in 2019, he's such a nice, cool, down-to-earth guy. Truly the best of our time.
*ADDENDUM 0:52 At bar 24 on beat 2 when he gets to B string there, he's actually just playing chromatic on that string 18 17 16 15, it says 18 17 17 15, but listen again its def chromatic lick. Crazy lick tho, fire AF
Guthrie Govan just simply isn't a human.. 😮 I rarely listen to him because I simply can not contain all the greatness he puts out through 6 dang strings. Musical genius can't even begin to explain.
All round talented musicians. Guthrie ripping it a million notes per sec.... camera cuts someone making 1 strike of a bell. Feels like the band workload is off balance :)
I love buckethead and vai, all the great shredders and everyone in-between players but when I hear this guy, I think he might just be guitar perfection...
Govan is an animal, and I especially love the phrasing in this solo, but why can't I get gigs like the big bell girl or the dude with 1 keyboard but like 25 amps behind him or the electric cello that isn't even in the mix??? Easy money.
Guthrie is good...but this isn't his best...sounds like standard John Petrucci. Just stay in key and play fast notes with some high bends every now and then.
No greater example exists which illustrates just how out of touch Rolling Stone has become. Guthrie's mastery here dates the magazine like a Curtis Mathis console and proves, when it comes to writing about music in 2023, they might as well be a literary laser disc.
It's obviously not just his ability to play fast (even though that's pretty impressive anyway) - it's his uncanny knack for improvisation, combined with great phrasing, telling a 'story' with each solo, and his clean and efficient picking to make every note sound clear as a bell... Guthrie is, to me, the perfect combination of David Gilmour and Paul Gilbert, with a slice of Eric Johnson thrown in for good measure.
not fair, look at all those musicians trying their best to do their magic on their instruments and GANDALF in the center making them look like amateurs
I think he is actually struggling with this solo, there are micro tiny parts here and there where he almost lost the flow, but eventually made it till the end, guitarists will understand this
You shouldn't compare tho. I Say they are equal magnificent and i think u can agree on this too. So If you do why mentioning the comparison. I would've said smth like him and holdsworth are one of the best guitarists that i follow and get inspired by. It's diplomacy. Respect towards art and towards artists not to compare them . Much peace im well intended and i really don't want to upset or be superior. This is what i would comment cause this is also what i feel. Him and holdsworth are my fav guitarists too i can't compare them. Afterall music îs about mood no? Sometimes guthrie is fitting my mood better sometimes holdsworth does it ! Again have a beautiful day and keep composing music for yourself
@@RobertMJohnsonIs that the top of the mountain though? Or are there a few mountains? It's like watching someone run an incredible marathon and focusing on the way this person is a really shitty high jumper. Sure, legs and shoes are involved, but is it really comparable? You can admire each person at their preferred discipline and not criticise them for not being great at both. Seems unnecessarily contrarian to me.
@@stevejosephs8965 I believe there's a couple of videos of him saying he uses Fractal stuff for this gigs and workshops. He's been a Fractal guy for years now, and I believe he only uses real amps when playing with the Aristocrats or The Fellowship now.
I saw the Aristocrats this year and he was only using a fractal through the house PA with a little wegde montior for himself to hear. Amazing sound and tone. @@DaviSiqueiraSilva

...well... as we do know now Govan might be the 251th greatest guitarplayer ever
Haha - yes indeed. Didn't you know that John Lennon was a better guitarist than GG (amongst 240+ others incorrectly placed above him).
Yeah, just watched Beato's video on the Rolling Stone list. The mag is a mere irrelevancy these days.
Agreed.@@wildbeanz Those lists have always been the same. Glorified boomer popularity contest.
Rolling Stone Magazine? They missed out a lot of the best on top 250. Even Gary Moore i think.
Do you really care about a stupid list that much? Are you 14?
As long as you give him food and water there's no reason why he should ever stop.
Preach.
And beer. He does like his beer... 😁
He needs beer too
Petition to dress him up as Gandalf the White for the next gigs
I fully support this.

“A wizard should look like a wizard.” 💀
He was completely bald before the gig. It just grows in time with his immense skills.

His vocabulary is limitless. Brilliant.
He can do that for much longer than 2 minutes hahah
È la prima volta che lo sento così melodico

"Look to my soloing on the first light of the fifth day, at dawn look to the east."

Awesome job transcribing this man.
Thanks man! I appreciate the kind words!
Seems almost inconceivable that he can still be improving but it certainly sounds like that to me. Some absolutely sublime phrasing in this solo.
It's insane. The epitome of living and breathing music.
I have a pavlov reflex: everytime I hear or read the name "Guthrie Govan" I get the chills instantly

Best description yet!
I'm jealous! He sounds like a great guy by all accounts.
If an alien god arrived on our planet, and demanded to guitar duel for the fate of the human race...
I would send Guthrie.
GUTHRIE GOVAN,, simply the best !!!!!!!
I think half the people that go to Hans Zimmer concerts are guitar players going for a pilgrimage to Guthrie.
Me too
You see, the thing you have to understand about Guthrie Govan is that he's god damn Guthrie Govan.
Couldn't have said it better myself!

His playing aside, I find it fascinating how so much hair can get so white in such a short time.

Who was working the camera? the most insane part... you're looking at the person hitting the bell??? lolol
I'm checking out the legs on the chic hitting the bell, screw Guthrie.
lol. Great shot, camera man!
1:13 - the guy in the top middle next to the two ladies. The smile on his face. Haha. He knows!
Hear some lovely Morse speed runs in this
He's actually quite good...
And I doubt he’s having too much fun here. He’s being professional as usual.
Maybe, but it pays the bills and it's a pretty cool experience.

Amazing playing like always. But also respect for the person that made the tabs! Or is this AI now??
That slide up to the 20th fret at the start of bar 9 followed by those bends was phenomenal 👌
No end to his amazing musicianship and chops , Thank you for posting ..
No end whatsoever. It’s amazing.
He has more flow than the Amazon river.
1:13 - 1:19 Really blows my mind, he truly speak with his instrument. Such a beautiful phrase.

Steve Stevens would approve
I feel like guthrie govan is just dave gilmour, but he unlocked 100% of his brain.
Is this what the final boss in guitar hero looks like?
No words.....the best ive ever heard.
The other guitarists coming in with the 'main riff' once maestro Guthrie ends his solo be like "FFS Hans, let Guthrie take this 'famous bit' as well".
The way he can make notes snarl and sear so smoothly on bends is magical
