To recover from a string break and improvise + play the original melody with 5 strings is already difficult AF, with a floating bridge and 5 out of tune stings but still managed to finish it all almost perfectly with a slide? That's my GOAT right there, stunning.
The worst part was the floating bridge, therefore one string breaking causes all the other strings to significantly lose pitch. But he still managed with the fucking slide
What makes the slide more impressive? I've never played the guitar but I've seen a few comments here about the slide and I just want to understand why that would make it harder? Does he always use a slide?
@@lamps110 guthrie is extremely experienced with slide playing, but not in this manner, where the other 5 strings are significantly out of tune and the action (string height) has been lowered, both caused by a string being broken on a floating bridge setup. two things he has to deal with here: he can't rely on the frets to give himself visual cues as to where the general area of the notes are, he has to rely solely on his ears. slide is generally only played with higher action, but in this case, it's lowered way further past the standard. guthrie has to be very light with his touch on the slide or else the slide may push the string onto the fret and cause a tinny, unpleasant sound
Guthrie Govan is without question, the greatest guitarist to ever live! His phrasing is beyond match and allows him to improvise from one to the next flawlessly. But, losing that string and still playing better than anyone else? Untouchable! Zimmer truly made a great choice on guitar!
Intense! didn’t even notice he switched to the slide until it occurred to me that needed to replay it to see it. That’s how seem less it was. GG the GOAT 🙌
funny thing i noticed while watching: guthrie played a very similar lick to 2:54 during the 1st string break with hans ruclips.net/video/oHew2D9zDw0/видео.htmlsi=zv_Q8W6blg2_qwxO&t=249 i guess its not too surprising since its a pretty standard lick
for noun guitarists: with these kind of guitars when a string breaks all other string will go out of tune, he had to use a slide and rely on his ears only.
I watched it 3 times. Bought a tear to my eye each time. Wonderful.

Wow-to pull that out like that with a slide over a part like that... dude, it's special beyond special.
