Guthrie Govan is like Paganini. Not many knew who he was until he was well into his career. Now he is gaining the widespread attention he always deserved and is obviously one of the finest players alive. A level above the previous iteration of megavirtuoso talent
I first became aware of Guthrie when he worked for guitar techniques and used to transcribe solos and play demos for new gear, guitars and amps ect. He was frightening then!
Brian is the very best. I've seen them over 7 times in the Netherlands and the Aristocrats are one of the bands with the most chemistry. And very nice guys on top of that. can't wait to see and hear them for the 8th time!! Keep going, GG, BB and MM!
Having the Aristocrats as your jam band can only be a great thing. Each of the guitarists who remained on the stage are supremely gifted in their own right. Mike and Tosin are mutants, Guthrie is in another league all together and Joe, is Joe. It started looking like a free for all, once Joe bailed though.
Guthrie is the best technical player to ever live, seriously. I had no idea he's the 2nd best slide player too after Trucks. Wth, this guy is just on another level of talent. Endless practice and playing isn't enough to allow one to master literally every technique known to guitar. Guthrie is the only player I've ever heard of who apparently has mastered them all
@James that's your opinion man, cmon don't go stating that as it it's fact. I think Guthrie's songs are far better than Satch's. There's no right or wrong answer here, you can only objectively discuss technical ability. Ask another person and they'll tell you neither Guthrie or Satch compare to One Direction in terms of songwriting.
It's never a good conversation to say someone is better than the other one. But I do find guthrie more appealing and I think he is better than most legendary guitarists both in song righting and technical aspect. But obviously satriani is a legend too. But still listen more guthrie solos , both his own band and with others like Hans Zimmer and Steven wilson etc.
Guthrie is definitely in a class of his own. In my opinion his strongest characteristic that sets him apart from others is his incredible fluidity with improvising. But he does have a great deal of techniques at his disposal as well. There's certainly techniques that others may surpass him in a sense, but overall he is an incredibly versatile player. In otherwords, there are definitely players who are ahead of him with a particular technique, but the when considering the sheer versatility of his playing it's not often matched. Btw, Sonny Landreth is an incredibly skilled slide player. I find his playing better than that of Trucks. But that's just me an my opinion. Check him out if you haven't heard of him. ✌️
Guthrie is the man. Listening to him talk everything about guitar and music is like listening to a Physicist talk. Way, way above anything I could understand, but I can listen to him for hours. Also, super cool dude. Joe is also amazing and a nice guy.
It's hard to imagine how anyone could be better at anything than Guthrie is with a guitar. I'm a guitar fanboy and GG just continues to be the guy who plays the amazing lick I have never heard anyone play before, (and by that I mean no variant of anything I've heard before, just completely out of the ether and stunningly original). Surgical bending skills to boot. The GOAT imo.
Yes, he's been my best guitarist for a decade already. Guthrie and Yngwie are my favorite of all time. But there's a scary new rising player named "Mateo Mancusso" who is almost as good as Guthrie already (or maybe even better technically - playing without pick). Watch out for that guy, he might dethrone Guthrie as the best in the very near future.🔥
Never forget monster which lived once, named shawn lane. Guthrie praised him on some interview and if im understood correctly, shawn is guthries idol. Shawn was technically on his own level and i've found only 1 dude who has been capable to play on that level BUT he was totally missing musical side. It was only technical shredding. Shawn was also musically pioneer and mastermind. Paul gilbert also has said that shawn was league on his own and he was baffled how shawn could play such licks.
that's almost an OD on amazingness in 15 minutes. Everyone kept it tasteful and with So many different flavors and amazing dynamics and clarity. Dude at the end topped it off with the HD blues vocals.
Satch has such a strong sense of melody, it separates him. Him and GG both do. Lots of players have amazing chops but melody is king. What's with camera shutter interrupting solos?
Just to take a look at two guitarists on stage (Marco on drums and Bryan on bass, fantastic as always): Satriani is good, but his playing mostly follows well-known paths. Guthrie always finds a way to combine classic blues playing with appropriate innovative ideas. And come on, listen to his slide solo again (7:15)!
Yeah, Satriani is completely outclassed here. Guthrie is untouchable - he just feels everything going on around him and taps into it like a champ. Meanwhile, JS hides behind his shades. Yeah, nice one, Joe; like, you're really connecting with everyone - not! Just doing your own 'cool' thing. You've heard of Joe Pass? Well, here we have Joe Fail.
@@robinwatson4282 You are just the "my father is stronger than yours" type of guitar player, aren't you (if ever you play the guitar) ? If that's the way you think, you understand nothing...
I mean yeah whatever is happening in this video, it’s definitely not blues oriented. Actually, it encapsulates a lot I hate about modern blues if I think about it.
interesting Tobin couldn’t play through the chords. Definitely wouldn’t be apt to play bebop and confirms most new players can’t swing instead go for the dissonant patterns that do sound amazing percussively but not musical in a melodic sense! The few cats onstage playing out of key are a different animal all together 😂
This is a video that should be MANDATORY for all guitar students to watch! It's 99% what NOT to do. Just because you CAN play a bunch of licks, shapes, riffs etc does not mean you should. What a bunch of sterile noise this is.
Guthrie is no Petrucci, Frusciante,or Navarro nor even close to Sartriani,Vai, Mike Stern or Eric Johnson but with about another decade of practice he could potentially wind up pretty good.
I can tell for sure you haven't watched or listened any of his improvised solos and songs. Have u listened toThe Aristocrats? I dont think so. Frusciante is hell of a player, no question. but you can't compare them lol .. Guthrie is in another level of playing
They are all great in their own music, but Guthrie is just a freak alien beast!!! Just toying with these guys. He made Joe sound so predictable and basic, probably why he took his guitar off. The guy he gave it too was awful. Tosin is out of his element. Mike sounds like that dude struggling at local blues jams. Again, Guthrie is on a different frequency than all these guys.
I stumbled upon this clip.. kinda boring.. JS was straight up predictable pentatonic blues... Guth did some interesting stuff.. its supposed to be fun so cant really pick it apart

Love how The Aristocrats are makin eye contact with each other the entire way through lol. It's insane how incredibly locked in those three are.

Satriani kabur gaes😂
Satch's tone is always so full and lush. Guthrie's phrasing and vocabulary is otherworldly. What a cool lineup. Great video.

Guthrie's just a GEM. So cool and yet so meek, modest and considerate too.
I miss B.B. King😢
People think it's easy to play Blues, but here, only Joe can do it .
They all play great anyway, it's a fun jam :)
Only Joe, Guthrie has shown various demonstrations in various videos.... 👍
Ah dude Guthrie can play the blues. I've seen it.
Joe Satriani is perfect blues musician!
Good grief, no.
Stratosferico gota chitarristico… bellissima jam !!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Ma… and MORE, a parte il bassista de The Aristocrats…, chi sono gli altri ??
Satriani...💎🎸👽
Me too Satch !❤
To be there and hear this live would’ve been a jaw dropping and awe inspiring experience

Saw Vai, Satch and Guthrie live this year. Guthrie live was an eye-opener !

Guthrie this...Guthrie that...but he is looking almost all the time to Joe...that says a lot❤
and joes playing was generic sounding so it doesnt matter lmao

Personne à pus contrer le maître satriani. Merci maître ❤
Ibrahimovic bom de futebol e no bass também
Is it me or was Guthrie at times “playing tribute” to Derek Trucks? So amazingly cool!
Guthrie Govan ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Govan é o gênio da guitarra. E esse baixista mds 👏🏼
Loving Guthrie's 'eye contact' with Joe in the beginning!
Also, could you possibly end your part any cooler than 4:55 😎
that bend by guthrie at 3:09 never seen anything like that.
It appears to be a 2 tone bend
lo you serious?
when Guthrie slows it down it's like, oh, you wana see slow........
Wow gosh! Guthrie is going on the sky with that!
I saw Guthrie on tour with Hans Zimmer.

Guthrie Govan amador tocando blues? 😂😂😂😂
Badass
Guthrie is always fighting his hair with his face...🤣
@igo, se todos tocarem igual não terá graça ...Tosin Abasi tem o modo dele, deixe o cara, mané.

I’m wondering if it might possibly be his tech(?) 🤷🏻♂️

In my opinion no one beat joe among modern player with blues genre... but technic wise Guthrie win here and over all joe.
look how Joe just leaves the stage after Govan solo at 7 minutes. Gives the guitar to some random guy backstage and just quits for the night.
Joe can hold his own with anyone don’t get it twisted . That’s not why he left your looking too much into it
Aristocrats plus!
its hard seeing abasi here, heres such a quality player in his own realm, he doesnt look comfortable!
I didn't know that Jeff Bezos can play guitar. He is pretty damn good
What happened to joe
It really showcases the on the fly improvisation capabilities each person has . Very surprising. Not where Guthrie's concerned
Why did Joe left in the middle?
Had to shit I guess😂
That skateboard was not meant for blues but he managed to get something out of it .
😂 Scrolling through the comments and saw this. A little gem.

PS i agree

The last guy after guthrei was messed up
Vocals, wasted time between solos
😂😂😂

Guthrie just eats them all in every dimension for breakfast. god
baldy satriani disappeared and then returned a new satriani, same sun glasses but with more hair and the same guitar level ja

LOL after watching this entire shit show, go back and watch Guthries first solo. Wiped these guys up so easily.
Maybe only Matteo Mancuso could face Guthrie.
Govan is just a shreeder like many in the world
Guthrie only need to improve his guitar tone, technique and all else is top notch.
He had good tone back in the conford suhr days..
Satriani kabur kencing di celana melihat teknik govan
Tosin Abasi has zero idea how to play blues, I respect him he has crazy legato skills dont hate me but thats the situation here
Govans tone sucked
Please u got no chill off this. No chill
Not like SRV blues!!!
Govan is the most creative of all. The others play like idiots while Goven shares and directs the sound. This jam is painful, I think.
