He most certainly is the greatest to to ever do it, including Shawn Lane, Allan Holdsworth and Danny Gatton. I don't know of any other profession on earth where #1 is sooooooo far ahead of #2.
Control, phrasing, velocity, precision, feel. This guy could play over CDEFGAB, flats, sharps, dominants, augmented and altered played at the same time. He's got nothing to prove anymore.
oink ooink You’re criticising a comment which says Guthrie is insanely technically talented, and arguing that because he hasn’t written any famous riffs, saying he’s amazingly talented is wrong. And now you’re bringing up how I haven’t written any famous riffs either. Bro what are you talking about how old are you 😂
@@oinkooink Waves, Drive Home solo, Regret #9 solo to mention a few. But that's the thing, his music is not riff based, it's ever changing. Of course it's not going to stick like a good old AC/DC riff, but you are comparing apples and pears
Fuck me. I'm addicted to this. The tone, the style, the feel of it. That build up from 1:36 or so to 1:43 gets me every time. If Guthrie did a whole album on this style I'd be all over it.
1:17 I've had this lick stuck in my head for days without knowing what it was from, and I've finally found it. That harmony change is just so beautiful I could never forget it.
+Tantrys personally I rank guthrie above Vai, far above Santana, and just a little below Gilmour (though guthrie is obviously the more technically proficient player)
How do you rank him above Vai and below Gilmour? Gilmour is not a virtuoso. They're literally not even in the same ballpark. Guthrie has more expanded knowledge and capability than Vai - Vai has mastered his craft to where no one has taken it before though. I'd still rank vai in his prime as the one musician who became the grand master of his style. Guthrie is a master of all styles and proficient in anything and everything music. David Gilmour is a great band guitarist that made some pretty melodic songs.
@@joluijten8935 His improvisation is recognizable with just a few notes. This clip is fully improvised. He is a total master of the instrument. There is only one Guthrie and he is just the best. No one can compare to him, the best ever in my opinion.
@@TheEternalGuitar oh my god my eyes never want to read such bullshit ever again. You Gilmour retards always find a way to say things that are beyond insane...Enjoy the music and stfu.

1:30 well i study a lot gt, and i know i need to study a lot but in my humble opinion, the guitar speaks in that minute, and right after that the sentence below gives the answer!
Puts petrucci to shame, which is another highly skillful guitarplayer. Guthries versatility, sense of rythm, speed, mastery of several techniques and genres makes up a player that few players alive can match (R.I.P Allan Holdsworth and shawn Lane)
According to what I just saw, all the RIGHT notes of improv, are on every fret and every string. This NOW makes it very simple for me to shred in key......[LMAO]

Breath taking! IMO probably the most awe inspiring of all the many great guitarist out there. His expression of the piece leaves nothing out. Massive thumbs up Guthrie.
I have just come to realize that the fan in the face thing Actually has a useful purpose. It keeps your hair out of your face and you see where you’re going. Besides making you look like a god obviously.. my hair has been kinda getting outta control during quarantine so now I kinda get it :D not sure if I’m just being captain obvious here anyway!
What scales other than A minor is he using? He does some amazing stuff sometimes when the underlying chords are changing. I just don't know what else than A minor he uses?
Guthrie, Greg Koch, Josh Smith, Max Ostro.... sooooo many KILLA axmen. Glad to see six string slinging is here to stay, for the foreseeable future anyway.
Gotta give props to GG for introducing me to outside lines probably 10 years ago. I hate his tone, hate his style, hate his songs but I probably wouldn't be doing what I do today without him. But seriously you all gotta get some Pat Martino in your life, this is wack.
I can't believe there were 68 people who gave this future legend and thumbs down. I suppose you can do better?? Guthrie is an amazing musician, and really talent
Dare I say I don’t care for his tone in this video. Which is weird because it’s the first time I didn’t care for how he sounded because it’s usually amazing.
I think a lot. And I think that Guthrie is the next step in the evolution of our electric guitar 🎸. If a unification theory exists, he is well on his way. Try watching him without volume. It is simply fascinating
guys is guthrie doing triple muting? using right hand palm + fingers to mute upper + lower strings and with left hand light finger touches aftter lifting off the note? im asking because his right hand is not moving like a sweep movement
He totally ignored that 2nd octave E on the low 6th string at the 24th fret. I would say he missed a note but I think we can all agree that that was an intentional snub. Fail.
I can't even think that good. Seems like there is literally nothing that he can't pull off with ease. Like if he can think it then he can play it. Its totally mind bending and outrageous.
Guthrie is a smooth yet powerful player. In my book collection he is the best out there right now. I say that because he can play anybody else and sound just like them, He can play any style anywhere at anytime.

Is it windy out there, or is his hair just blown away by the awesomeness of his playing?
he comes with his own fan
It's the amp.
I think the camera man let a few go
Best comment here ! :D
The wind comes from his fingers moving so quickly!
The more I listen to Guthrie. The more I believe he's probably the best guitarist in the world.

+Hamada El Mansour Nothing indeed..
Exactly. Just thinking about his vast guitar and music theory knowledge baffles me.
+Hamada El Mansour That is what you get from vast amounts of hours spent applying yourself to guitar and music. I wish i had his dedication.
Do you really think he wants to prove anything to anyone?
Maybe that is why he is so good...doesn't play to prove, just has fun!!
Every time I watch Guthrie playing I think everyone else is a clown
I'm much better than Guthrie .. then I woke up lol

It's like if you put Steve Vai, Carlos Santana and David Gilmour in one man and made them way better.

three people dislike this, they obviously don't know what superb tone and technique sounds like.

Alexandre Mundim and dumb
Nah it's because of jealousy.
No, no that's just their way of saying "I can't handle anyone being better than me"

That is just incredible.
Astonishing. Even the drummer looks like he is about to burst in to tears!
I don't see a drummer in this video - are you talking about the Steven Wilson track?
Shredders need to take notes from this video, so melodic yet still manages to include some speedy runs tastefully.
beautiful, the guitar tone, the music ... Guthrie is the man !...
No words to describe this ..
bass line reminds me a little of the song Take Five's Flavour
That vibrato tho......that does the semi tonal thing....i mean sheeiiiiit with that sustain
Perfect as always. I notice he's a Kemper Profiling Amp. They seem to be getting very popular.
Just amazing,,, in world where there are so many great players, he is something else 👏

+mknomad5 or he (guthrie) just didn't want to lose his cool?
Breath taking! IMO probably the most awe inspiring of all the many great guitarist out there. His expression of the piece leaves nothing out. Massive thumbs up Guthrie.
0.33 takes me back to a melancholic nostalgia trip.

Take Five....
Can't wait for the next new tune although Guthrie's older tunes never get old. Forever grateful. 😃
You may think Guthrie has a fan blowing on him to make him look sexy like Cindy Crawford drinking a Pepsi, but it is strictly to prevent over heating.
This is magic
Never fails to amaze… over and over again. Nothing to prove!! ❤️
not sure about the hair dryer and still not as good as lill Wayne
It's not a hair dryer, it's the heat waves coming off of the guitar.
Best Player!! Do you like my guitar playing on my channel?? Thanks for your comments!
Most of rock guitar players will get murdered on those modal interchange.
What scales other than A minor is he using? He does some amazing stuff sometimes when the underlying chords are changing. I just don't know what else than A minor he uses?
THAT BEND AT THE 1:30 MARK......DANG DANG AND MORE DANG !!
He is doing the Steve Vai fan thing now, or is it just the wind? Maybe just cool down the heat? :D
I wish we could figure out what Kemper amp profile he's using
Guthrie, Greg Koch, Josh Smith, Max Ostro.... sooooo many KILLA axmen. Glad to see six string slinging is here to stay, for the foreseeable future anyway.
I would bump this while im playin violent missions on GrandTheftAuto....
I'm not worthy!
THE MASTER
I wish he wouldn't tag his videos and my playing together.....
Seriously though, superb playing. Inspirational. As always.
Credo che il Mitico Govan qui abbia preso qualcosa da Fabrizio Bicio Leo, qualche bending che ha reso l'impro più accattivante ed emozionale.
Gotta give props to GG for introducing me to outside lines probably 10 years ago. I hate his tone, hate his style, hate his songs but I probably wouldn't be doing what I do today without him. But seriously you all gotta get some Pat Martino in your life, this is wack.
+Kid -Bravo no
I can't believe there were 68 people who gave this future legend and thumbs down. I suppose you can do better??
Guthrie is an amazing musician, and really talent
The Kenper sounds marvelously marvelous don't ya think?
Dare I say I don’t care for his tone in this video. Which is weird because it’s the first time I didn’t care for how he sounded because it’s usually amazing.
Did someone leave the window open or is that a fan?
I think a lot. And I think that Guthrie is the next step in the evolution of our electric guitar 🎸. If a unification theory exists, he is well on his way. Try watching him without volume. It is simply fascinating
guys is guthrie doing triple muting? using right hand palm + fingers to mute upper + lower strings and with left hand light finger touches aftter lifting off the note? im asking because his right hand is not moving like a sweep movement
Such a shame the audio is out of sync
jesus christ.
I am the only one who think's this should be a Guthrie's song
Man... This dude never ceases to amaze me.
0:16 That part just gives me the chills.. it's just fucking perfect
Guthrie... absolutely amazing as usual. Anyone who possibly knows what profile in the Kemper he uses here?
Красавец.Люблю мелодичную импровизацию.эти холодные упражнения надоели.гитара поет.
we need to chip in and build a shrine for him when he leaves this world behind
His phrasing just blows my mind, and for a guy who's mostly self taught it's astounding. Effortless.
Guthrie is a smooth yet powerful player. In my book collection he is the best out there right now. I say that because he can play anybody else and sound just like them, He can play any style anywhere at anytime.
Love it! But i have to say, the breath more comments are right. The spaces could make everything he plays a masterpiece.
