Those initial feelings of defeat will pass and if you are made of the right stuff your fighting spirit will emerge and you may slip into your big boy pants and take responsibility for learning the guitar.
That bending trick at 1:05 always blows my mind. Not only does it sound great, but it's so precise and in-tune in spite of bending to two different pitches in that small a space.

Fuck, he's the most underestimated and unappreciated guitarist ever--but all of us here appreciate him.
It's amazing how he can play absolutely ANYTHING he hears in his head, no matter how fast the run, how big the jumps, he can hear it absolutely cleanly in his head, and he can play ti absolutely cleanly through his instrument, his technical abilities aren't stopping him either. i NEED online lessons from this guy
Speed isnt a requirement to make meaningful soulful music, but when you can play that fast and clean you have mastered the instrument and have a vocabulary that most players will never achieve. Playing in time, hitting all the right notes, landing on the right notes, musical phrasing....when you can jam like Guthrie, you are really special.
I know I'll never be anywhere close to as good, but watching Rick Beato go through and analyse this video made me realise I can still learn a lot even at my meagre level by examining the techniques used and taking it piece by piece. Absolutely stunning work.

The thing that amazes me the most is the advanced lines and outside notes that guthrie throwns in. That and he's so amazingly smooth and effortless while playing crazy leads. This guy is surely one of the best.

Guthrie has definitely set the bar and raised it I don't think anybody really comes close to his playing today there's some great guitar players out there don't get me wrong but he is definitely the goat
Believe it or not, I think the most difficult part of this solo is the low E7 arpeggio - he's hammering on a B and D before plucking the G# on the G string (and ascending chromatically up). It is absolutely insane to do that at tempo.
There is no restrictions for this guy, he does things never heard or thought of its like the normal rules of guitar don't apply to him. He's at a standard even the best players in the world are in awe.
This gentleman was abit of trouble for his mother coming out to take his first breath. Finally figuered why he took longer than most of us to be delivered. Remember in the 60s seeing to many bands and musicians of all types I couldnt.count them all today. Like Jimi Hendrix 3 times Cream fairwell concert. Zepplins first tour through California. The doors, iron butterfly, airplane Chuck Berry,Mayall and the list never stopped until tickets got $ 20 which was a burn. Seen so.many in jazz, blues, fusion, rock and roll,Soul, Symphonys, funk, oldies, surfer music, disco real country and old cowboy bands. Met afew of the great originals when it was real music not synthetic like some today. There's only a few great ones still able to perform live(rare) cuz too many have joined the band in the next world and to me God is the only conductor where everybody gets to play and there's no pay but Love. Anyway so far its been super fun and exciting music is the greatest art form just listen to the birds and the wind and the ways. Here before us and if egotistical humans don't destroy this paradise when human species disappears off the face of the earth and they will nature will still be playing her tunes. Mr. Jovan is in my opinion the greatest active guitarist living today. His versitility is the reason. Truly unique and I don't see anything but a gentleman who smokes that axe Hope he is playing at 100 years old God willing. He's the best alive today that I've seen and heard over my life hands down. I am a huge guitar fan (see my username) and Guthrie is my favorite - EJ, Clapton, Carlton, Ford, DiMeola - I love all those guys, but Guthrie has captivated me. This cat could put out a blues alblum that would just destroy. I hope he starts playing with other artists and go's more mainstream, talent like this needs to be showcased. I don't what it is exactly but, maybe it has to do with the hair and beard, I am currently growing mine out!!!

i dont know how to explain, well you surely noticed he uses the pick to hit the A string and middle finger to hit the G string, but on the left hand he switches roles if i may say , he starts with certain fingers on the A string and you will notice that one of them jumps at the end on the G string, ending with that bend , im sure i did not help much lol;
Rhythmic displacement. He repeats a fixed number of notes in a group against a fixed time frame. If you a play a group of 3 notes in a triplet time frame, the first note in that group will always land on the beat. But if you played a group of 4 notes in a sextuplet time frame, then the first note in that group will only synchronise with the beat every four beats. This is what creates that “shifting” effect, because the first note in the group starts on the beat, then it drifts away, and eventually resyncs again.

Albert King never played a lick that was any longer than 4 or 5 notes. Sounds nothing like Albert King he was a feel player/minimalist, not a shredder. Not saying anything bad about Guthrie, everybody relax, just saying that comparing/relating this to Albert King is asinine.

Guthrie Govan is without a doubt my favorite guitarist. I say that in the present tense because I really dig a lot of other players, but Guthrie just has that special something. I never get tired of watching these videos, the man has truly mastered his instrument. A lot of other players - Vai, Satriani to name a couple - are great, but after awhile I get bored with their playing, not with Guthrie - he always sounds refreshing. Albert King never played a lick that was any longer than 4 or 5 notes. Sounds nothing like Albert King he was a feel player/minimalist, not a shredder. Not saying anything bad about Guthrie, everybody relax, just saying that comparing/relating this to Albert King is asinine.
I see your point,and you're right about Albert King's licks, but its not a solo on the style of Albert King, its a backing track on the style of Albert King with a solo on the style of Guthrie Govan. Just lettin ya know

Guthrie Govan is without a doubt my favorite guitarist. I say that in the present tense because I really dig a lot of other players, but Guthrie just has that special something. I never get tired of watching these videos, the man has truly mastered his instrument. A lot of other players - Vai, Satriani to name a couple - are great, but after awhile I get bored with their playing, not with Guthrie - he always sounds refreshing. If you don't own Erotic Cakes - BUY IT! Cheers G
