Guthrie is the most complete, versatile virtuoso electric guitar player that has ever lived. Jon Gomm is the most complete, versatile virtuoso acoustic guitar player that has ever lived. I feel lucky to have met and experienced a guitar workshop and gig with both of them.
Close your eyes and listen to this whole video - and you can just completely picture the actual person he's impersonating perfectly. It's truly uncanny - like Rich Little of the guitar world. From the attack, to even pick noise (which is really evident on players like Scofield). That said, G2 is an amazing stylist in his own right, and has a sound and style that is as uniquely his own as the greats that he can effortlessly impersonate. My only regret is that he didn't include SRV. :(
Reminds me of those guitar instructional books I bought in the 90s. Seems to be part of the curriculum at GIT and the like... analyze great players and then do your soundalike. I'm sure it's a great exercise for the one doing it.
This was the first time I realized how Jimi could play nowadays if he was still alive. There are many guitar players who try to play like Jimi Hendrix, but nearly all of them end up as sort of a Hendrix impersonation - though not SRV, who played a lot of Hendrix-songs, but in his own SRV-style. This here pics up Jimi's spirit and makes something new out of it. Great respect to GG!

I found the "the edge" section absolutely hilarious.
Same for the Tom Morello section. The two greatest participation ribbon guitarists out there, IMO.
@@Free2shred00 Can't knock Morello for his inventiveness, most people hadn't heard a guitar make some of those sounds before he came along, and some of his riffs are undeniably sick regardless of how simple the may be to play.
@@leerobbo92 He is good at what he does. And he knows how to write a catchy tune, too. But I do think he's waaaay overrated though, at least with regards to his playing ability. His not a slouch, and definitely knows his way around the fretboard, but I don't think he deserves to be mentioned among the greats.
@@Free2shred00 Oh yeah, I totally agree. Anything that has him anywhere near the top 100 on lists is just ridiculous really, unless it's purely a list for the best riff-writers or something (and even then he wouldn't be near the top).
john m I have some friends that consider Tom Morello to be their ‘favourite guitarist’. It’s hard to fight the natural instinct of an eye roll and a deep sigh when I hear them praise that overrated mediocrity.
This dude might be the greatest musician ever honestly. Who can do this but Guthrie
Guthrie just understands guitar on a level beyond anyone
Beyond anyone is a stretch. Tosin Abasi from Animals As Leaders I think takes it farther into originality. Don't think GG could play him either for the most part.
There is nothing to be said about him.. just GOAT
amazing guitar playing, an audible costume party.
OMG... Guthrie is FREAKING AMAZING !!!!!! I love his videos, and is he is quite unmatched in ability to be honest, and his talent in linguistic vocabulary never ceases to amaze me. He's not only one of the best guitar players on the planet, you can't turn away when he's just talking about things such as 'scales' (as boring as they may sound from another source)..
Guthrie we all LOVE YOU brother, you are AMAZING!!!! Rock on my friend.
govan's like the Ditto of guitar players, i wonder if a master ball will work on him
Guthrie is the most complete, versatile virtuoso electric guitar player that has ever lived. Jon Gomm is the most complete, versatile virtuoso acoustic guitar player that has ever lived. I feel lucky to have met and experienced a guitar workshop and gig with both of them.
Tosin Abasi is as good or better than these guys in a totally different way. More original actually. GG is absolutely amazing tho and I am a huge fan.
Man this talent is just overwhelming, possibly the most talented guitar player ever.... Simply genius.
Its truly amazing to see him nail all those different players. God skills
He included Jimi though
Reminds me of those guitar instructional books I bought in the 90s.
Seems to be part of the curriculum at GIT and the like... analyze great players and then do your soundalike. I'm sure it's a great exercise for the one doing it.
1:33 the lick in Guthrie's Beautiful imperfection
This was the first time I realized how Jimi could play nowadays if he was still alive. There are many guitar players who try to play like Jimi Hendrix, but nearly all of them end up as sort of a Hendrix impersonation - though not SRV, who played a lot of Hendrix-songs, but in his own SRV-style. This here pics up Jimi's spirit and makes something new out of it. Great respect to GG!
Back in Lithuania (not really from there. Just sounds good for more story) I heard the story of the Guitar demon who could replicate your style and put you to shame with his technical ability, all while smiling a boyish smile, not ever really shaving much...THE LEGEND IS TRUE!
BEWARE! THE GUITAR DEMON! HE EXISTS! HE'LL STEAL YOUR STYLE AND SHOW THE WORLD OVER WHY HE'S THE GREATEST MODERN DAY GUITARIST!
Scared myself! How will I sleep tonight?!
His name is Damian Salazar.
so hold on a minute, this guy is like dracula?
Im from lithuania tell me more
@@asesuserasnaidzelas You are? Get out! What a coincidence! You know Steve from Punžonys? LOL
@@kojam1 no lol, its like asking do u know Lee from tokyo
I love it Guthrie. I still own the Suhr guitar you played in Holland a few years ago. The guitar sounds great. I will post another song very soon.
Guthrie is probably the only one that can imitate Allan Holdsworth. Genius player.
Have you seen Max Oslo?
@@Elienguitar It's OSTRO
How could anyone not love this guy?
I was going to complain about the Hendrix mistake but this video is too legendary
So ahead of his time, even with this pandemic-friendly presentation 😍
The Edge's section is hilarious. Guthrie probably labored over that part for days.
Whats the name of the edge song
Do you have your own signature sound?
Is it meant to be some sort of joke? :p
For days?? Rumors around the streets are that he had someone else play that part. Couldn't do it himself
oh yes that mellow Timeless Classic sound of One Sweet Baby James🤗🎶🎸
Whenever I listen to Guthrie:
"Ahhhh....gg"
Lots of my favorite guitarists are here (including YOU, sir)!
You nailed every one of their “tendencies”, in a great way!
Made me smile with each one 😎✌️
I can live without the Aristocrats but Guthrie's work with Steven Wilson is sublime
Maybe 'cause u never joined The Aristocrats live..?!? It's unforgetable!
@@ralfkirsten124 Hi Ralf, I think its too musically complex for me but perhaps I need to experience them live to get it?
@@bigschnoz Nah, you just might not be into it. More mathy stuff just doesnt sway with people. But maybe other artists might be a good gateway. Plini, Protest the Hero, Fall of Troy, some djent bands, some might be too brash but try them out and see how they sit. Even Guthrie's own Erotic Cakes album might be good. Take it easy.
@@asciicatface I have looked at a bit of Plini on RUclips, very talented. I do enjoy some mathy stuff e.g. Tool, Periphery and classic prog with odd tempo etc, I just struggle a bit when it heads towards jazz realms. Currently playing a lot of Von Hertzen Brothers.
I'm a huge fusion fan and I don't get the Aristocrats either. I've heard the recordings but I'm not hearing songs. Just a lot of notes. No melodies that I want to hum later. The guys can all play, but there's no THERE there for me with them.
The first magazine I bought that came with a free CD had Guthrie on, for some reason the intro with him talking took me back to that day, 20 odd years ago lol
