      oh WOW!!! the prices are OUTSTANDING!!! right where I would expect them!!! -
      I did want to add that because these guys have SUCH GREAT encode/decode capabilities - would you be able to show us if it actually does those well??? - maybe do some video editing on them and see how the encode to different formats that it says it's capable of, and then run those same tests on other machines??? - it's starting to become a big deal of what chips can do when it comes to video editing and watching different formats, and being able to handle the newer formats is going to be a selling point (I just realized it doesn't AV1... :( )
      - it's just something to think about doing int he future I guess... because testing just game-play on the GPU isn't pushing the limits anymore, because the chips have become so powerful..... so using encoding as a standard benchmark might be a simpler way to show performance instead of JUST emulation ... :)

    The RK3588 may dominate in it's class for a little while to come. The next iteration of the Pi may have to go some to keep people interested. In 2022 though, the whole toothpick/pin solution for flashing is still silly and should be updated to something more practical. Coming to market early is certainly likely to put Mekotronics in some minds but when Radxa do enter the fray with theirs, I fear that it might take over, so Mekotronics might well need something to compete on price. Extremely impressive none the less and at a better price I would have snapped one up myself.

    • @AndrewTSq
      @AndrewTSq 2 года назад +2

      I dont see them as competitors. When Raspberry Pi 4 4GB is in stock, they are $80 here with psu, hdmi cable and a sd-card. This is $220 with taxes here, since I have to import it myself with import-taxes.

    • @jothain

      Very different target group there. I'm currently thinking about using rpi4 as openmediavault system. Not as emulator. If I'd want emulation good as it can be. Heck even ages old obsolete computers beat the S out of rpi in it. Especially if you throw anykind of GPU in. Heck old computers are pretty damn solid emulation computers even with onboard graphics. It's about power consumption.

    • @terrydaktyllus1320
      @terrydaktyllus1320 2 года назад

      Not everyone has a "more speed, more power" attitude, especially when it comes to SBCs. The fact that Raspberry Pi has so much support behind it, even magazines devoted to it, means that nothing else will compete with it any time soon.
      The other issues with SBCs is that the (normal) pricing of Raspberry Pi is very carefully thought out. If you're paying £80 for a Pi 4 with 8GB RAM, you can't go much beyond that as a price for an SBC without getting into the realms of Intel platforms as a better value for money option - you can pick up a good used Core-i5 laptop for around £120 and that will have a screen and keyboard with it also.
      I enjoy using Retropie and am a huge fan of emulation in general (and have been for years) but it does annoy me when all people see on these platforms is "games, games, games" and "how fast does Goldeneye run". SBCs like Raspberry Pi just happen to be good at emulation, plus they are cheap and convenient for building into cases and cabinets too - but all SBCs have applications in education, industry and IoT as well.
      Don't get me wrong, this SBC is impressive but its price alone makes it extremely niche - it's going to be mainly of interest to developers of edge devices where they may need extra computing power for complicated AI applications that can be put into a small box. But if I am planning to spend the equivalent of around $220 for a general usage or emulation/gaming machine, I am going to be looking for a used desktop or laptop for the same kind of money.

    • @srvuk
      @srvuk 2 года назад

      @@AndrewTSq I said next iteration. But as you did mention whilst in stock, the Pi 4 is being sold for much more because of the current climate, which in turn, also affects the price of other devices. So prices may well go down across the board when we see some stabilisation.

    • @srvuk
      @srvuk 2 года назад

      @@jothain The next Gen Pi will have to compete with these newer generation of boards which are a quantum leap in power and performance over the previous generations, so the Pi 5 can't stay too far behind. Eban Upton has also signalled his move away from the original core intention of the Pi, which earned it a charitable status to a pure financially driven company and for that, competition will be more ruthless, which could mean that the Pi may become a rather more expensive proposition going forward.

      I rid myself of my Microsoft abuser when Windows 7 support ended, I have no interest in their products on any device, let alone SBCs.
      So, no, I do not welcome more Windows OSes on SBCs, I think they work against the "hobbyist" nature of using these devices and Windows in its current iterations has big problems with bloatware and privacy that should be of big concerns to those people who are so ready to deploy that rubbish. Likewise Google Android.
      Learn Linux - it is fast, efficient and it cares about you and your privacy, plus you're not paying a "Microsoft tax" when you use it.

      @@LivingLinux I do not use UEFI if I have a choice between legacy BIOS and UEFI. On modern systems booting from SSD, UEFI has no speed benefit.
      From my perspective, UEFI went "hand in hand" with Secure Boot and Secure Boot was designed by Microsoft to put a "sticking plaster" over its own crappily designed OSes and to try to lock other OSes (i.e. Linux) out of PCs at the time Steve Ballmer was calling Linux a "cancer".
      I actually find UEFI far more difficult and fiddly to use than BIOS. I build my own kernels under Gentoo Linux anyway, and I turn UEFI off unless I have no other choice.
      I don't have to "mess with a boot procedure" at all - I compile the kernel, run a "make install" and "make modules install", go to the boot directory to delete any kernels I no longer want, then run a one-line "grub" command to update the boot loader.
      I don't need to "wait" for a build for a specific machine - I use Gentoo Linux only, I make my own builds for my own machines.
      So I don't understand what contribution you think you have made to the discussion at this point, because nothing you've said applies to my use case anyway.

Letricbikes did this…..sent their bikes to a bunch of youtube bikers And rvers for free cheap adverts and sold a ton of bikes.
      very smart for companies to use socmedia for free adverts.
