    As more of these 4K capable devices pop up, could you add Moonlight testing to your methods?
    The app itself opens pretty much on any device, but the decoding and networking performances are what dictate the experience. Seems like a perfect addition to what you're currently doing'

      I'm curious about this as well. I'd like to see 4k 120hz support confirmation as well. This device supports hdmi 2.1 and 8k 60hz, but doesn't explicitly state whether or not 4k 120hz is supported.

    Would be cool to check out the brandnew DosBoxPure Core Windows98, running in RetroArch. It also includes the Voodoo Graphics 3D Acceleration Card. Unreal was struggling on XBox Series X (tested by DF). And would be cool to see if Diablo II could run. Will be a whole lot of thinkering/fiddeling though…. But that’s the fun!

    It hits the right spot in specs:
    8-Core RK3588 chip,
    PCIe 3.0 NVMe for a 2230 M.2 (for the files itself to run fast),
    2.5Gb Ethernet with PoE support,
    64GB eMMC for the OS,
    16GB of LPDDR4X,
    2 full size HDMI 2.1 ports for output,
    Sub-$200,
    And most importantly of all, it fits in your pocket.

    Great video!
    For clarifying somethings
    Snapdragon 855 can get 800 points at single core and 2962 at multi core.
    GPU Wild life about 4700 points at 850mhz with V0631 drivers.
    Snapdragon 865 can get 930 single and up to 3400 multi.
    7400 points at 1050mhz with optimized kernel drivers in wild life.
    You could do a new video if some devs make a optimized rom and kernel for this device.
    That's powerful device but a old Xiomi Mi 9 could beat it in both sides.

    Not feeling it for $200+ even if it is marginally better than the Shield.
    Shield is horribly obsolete by technical standards for today, was a great piece of hardware new, but the past 7 years has really caught up to it, and while I own one, and I do like it, it's outdated and in horrible need of a modern refresh.
    Beating something with a CPU from 7 years ago, isn't all that impressive, while costing more at that.
    Shield had the Pro update, but it wasn't much of an update, more so they shifted to a more modern process node, performance wasn't noticeable.

    • @Birdulon
      @Birdulon 2 года назад +1

      I got an ASRockInd 4x4Box 4800U from NewEgg a while back, overestimated my soldering abilities and ruined the type-A USB3 port trying to replace it with a double port like the barebones board version has (the case needs some modification to fit it). Asked the local distributor if they'd sell me the barebones board and they never replied :D
      Funnily enough they were a supplier for my employer but I never bothered to try again from my work email. It really is a shame these things aren't available retail.

    • @wordsmith451
      @wordsmith451 2 года назад +1

      @@Birdulon I don't even mind the lack of support when it comes to the hobbyist side of things, but I haven't found a way to get anything since I'm not a large corporate customer. Sorry you had to go through that - it's always a risk when you don't have reliable support. The problem is that I need a test board to design a product before I sell it - then once I have a viable product, I can advertise and sell, and order in bulk since I know I can actually handle the volume. I'm sure more advanced enthusiasts have established relationships in Shenzhen and know how to handle it, but unfortunately I'm not in that camp. I love Arduino and Raspberry Pi for their attitudes but their chips just aren't powerful enough for my interests.
      I try to excuse just about everything by chalking it up to the pandemic and resulting supply shortages, but I have a hard time believing it when I see companies riding the same old Rockchip train while two years ago I had a smartwatch with a far more powerful MediaTek chip for the same price. I wish I knew more, but the argument that certain stocks of chips are abundant and therefore cheaper just hasn't proven true in my experience. Sure, the latest chipsets are in shorter supply, but current issues don't justify the continuing flood of RK3326 retro devices and the bizarre disconnect between less powerful Qualcomm SBCs selling for basically the same price as x86 boards that are far more capable.
      Price is crucial as a smaller player, even when making highly specialized devices. The current market simply doesn't allow for small-scale production. As a customer, I wouldn't even want to pay the retail price of the board itself, let alone the base cost of production and materials that end up in the final product. I'm lucky I don't rely on this for income, and feel awful for those that do.

      It seem more and more a tactic to first send them to the reviewers with no price stated yet creating a hype, but with a lot of disappointment when the price gets known. For 250-300 dollar you could look for a midrange mobile more powerfull than is.

      @@erikkarsies4851 I bought the R58X for $250 back in early April. So it's not that they started with hyping, before announcing the price. You can check it on my channel. Mekotronics is looking at distributors to handle the sales. It looks like more companies are adding HDMI In (Lenovo Yoga Tab 13, VIM 4, Rock 5), something I haven't seen with mobiles.

      Save yourselve the money and buy a refurbished HP prodesk 600 or something like that. Can be had for a third of the price if you look around. And those run Linux fine and are supported like any other x86 machine. Unlike this box which the manufacturer forgets about tomorrow because they have something new to sell you.

      With the shortage of the Pi4, real prices are not that much higher. Once Radxa releases the Rock 5, that will be the Pi killer.

      @@bzuidgeest According to leepspvideo they are working on (U)EFI support. When they can pull that off, you can probably run any ARM distro with (U)EFI support. That's how I run Ubuntu, Fedora, Alma, etc. on a Phytium D2000. So it might have longer legs than you can imagine. Just because the Pi community is big now, doesn't mean that they can postpone the Pi5 for a long time.
