    the fact that the ssh68 performed so badly might have been caused by a problem with the heat treat or some other kind of heat damage, Mike B also encountered this with his first test of the 68

    The 6b47 and 6b7-1m use "dry aramid fibre" on the inside, which means aramid without resin. This makes the helmet lighter, but it also makes it deform more when hit. This work against fragmentation, but as shown it presents issues when shot with higher kinetic energy projectiles like bullets. According to Russian testing, the ssh-68 is slightly superior to the ssh-60, maybe it only works against fragmentation. From what I have seen, the "K1" alloy used seems brittle. Thanks for the video

    • @paulcziganj4257
      @paulcziganj4257 3 года назад +14

      Yeah, the SSh-68 offers terrible protection from bullets, but the shape (wide and conical) imply it's better than other, more "spherical" steel pot helmets against shrapnel.

      The General Director of the Center for High Strength Materials noted that, according to the experience of armed conflicts, soldiers are hit first and foremost by shrapnel. That is why the emphasis was placed on anti-shrapnel protection in the design of the helmet, and the bullet was seen as the equivalent of a heavy, high-speed shrapnel

However their engine tech is still behind the US’s level despite it being good enough for its current purpose. As for size, I definitely agree with you for now since it is obvious they wanna catch up in displacement tonnage for ships. For electronics, I’m not familiar with em, so I can’t judge. However, how are their naval personal crap? As of now, I haven’t heard much about them being incompetent. They haven’t caused any accidents that I heard of nor have their ships stalled in the middle of the ocean.

    The 6b47's best attribute is the weight. It's much lighter that western ballistic helmets (such as an ACH with NVG mount and rails). Ballistic protection is most important, but low weight is also important, especially if you patrol for extended periods without getting shot at.

    You can get pads in the new russian helmets, I just bought some team Wendy pads and removed the suspension system and put the team Wendy pads in my 6b47. • @fallout1116

      The British, Italian, Dutch, and German militaries still use similar suspension systems. US M1 pot and PASGT helmets did as well, which is what I was issued back in the day.
      There's actually a significant airspace between the internal suspension (when worn) and the shell of the helmet itself, such that ~20mm of deformation wouldn't even reach the side of the head. The reviewer seems unaware of this. Not saying the newer "football helmet" pad systems aren't better, but that this old style isn't necessarily garbage.

    Honestly the 6b47 I was already expecting it to be equivalent to a decent steel helmet given its weight. I got it back in the mid 2010s when I had more cash and the only other helmets I had were the us M1 and an M88 PASGT. It's so damn light I doubted it would stop more than a 9mm to begin with and I came from the old school mentality of "helmets are for frag protection and nods mounts only". I have have some minor customization that improved it, not in terms of ballistic protection but fit and comfort. Kept the headband ditched the rest of the sus system and added aftermarket US style velcro pads so It fits more securely and comfortably. The GSSH's "headsock" tweaked a bit to fit better, unlike some aftermarket kits. Replaced the russian helmet light with a more durable US one after I found out just how easy the ruski ones break by dropping it just once. I don't do night stuff very often so I'm still working on a counterweight setup and I'm also looking into aftermarket covers for it.
    Anyone have recommendations on a good bipod for the side pic rail? XD
