4:18 The difference in velocities from the muzzle vs handful of meters/yards is insignificant and within variance between rounds. I'd say that the way helmets are suspended allows them to absorb/bounce bullets more effectively. It's the like hitting a fruit with a baseball bat off the ground vs against the ground. When the helmet was on the ground all of the bullet's energy is used to penetrate since the helmet can't move.

@@vantave9946 Yes. Modern helmets are not firmly strapped on to your head and are instead suspended over and around it with a webbing system. When hit, it lets the helmet's materials deform without cracking your skull (like seen on many videos), but also allows for some movement that can also absorb/redirect energy from actual penetration. In addition, the suspended nature of the helmets give some good bump protection (and ventilation).

Funny enough, most shrapnel have the penetration potential of a 45.ACP or even 7.62 soft point. The only difference is the shape but its save to say that with most helmets do far tested here a flat surface area on these helmets would have provided fair penetration potential for any kind of fragments. Do these helmets have the same size and shape? From the beginning of the video it seems as if they don't share helmet covers but I'd like to know if I did a kit that needed a tor, would the other helmet be a good substitute.

    45 APC best
I think it really comes down to weight; does it matter for people who are planning on facing 5.56 FMJ/AP rounds vast majority of time to get more handgun round protection at a heavier weight? Russia doesn't think so(interior troops aren't using the standard army helmets anyway).

    • @Oxide_does_his_best

The 1+ is the same shell as the army helmet. So... yes, interior troops are using bad helmets

I wish someone would actually try this. It could work if you could figure out a good binding agent and used enough layers.

@@Oxide_does_his_best I mean, you probably could but I don't know where you'd be able to get aramid fabric. We could try different glues from superglue, gorilla glue, just duct tape, etc. Could be a doable experiment if you found a good source of aramid. Scav house in sunken village in Shoreline always spawns aramid so I suggest start there

I'm currently making my own UHMWPE plates, not that hard. I'd go for that instead of aramid for helmets, but making a helmet doesn't seem as easy. I need to nail down some details before jumping into the clusterfuck of helmets.
