@@Cytoplasm4508 You are just plain wrong. In the old testament two versions of slavery are mentioned and condoned. The slavery that could be defined as bond servants goes for Jews. No Jews however (from the nations around) can be taken as slaves in the normal sense of the word. They are their masters property for ever and can be beaten etc. In the New Testament both Jesus and Paul specifically address Roman slaves. Even under the system of Roman slavery, which was by no means just bond servants, they for example make the declaration that slaves should serve and fear their master as if it was Jesus himself. NO the Bible does not only speak of slaves as bond servants, and any reputably Bible scholar will attest to that.
@@Cytoplasm4508 Here is a rather balanced video that goes into detail, and also comes to the conclusion that by no means slavery in the Bible only referred to a servant or bond servant. ruclips.net/video/Kc9NGeT8z04/видео.html It would also make no sense in terms of historical context for the Bible to only reference bond slavery.
@@Cytoplasm4508 The Bible is contradictory in many ways. Why does "God" order genocides? That the ten commandments all point to respecting thy nabour is so simplistic that it is astonishing coming from you who elsewhere is calling for the "full context". The bible makes a clear distinction between Jewish debt slaves and the slaves from the nations surrounding them. This also fits with other middle eastern societies at the time. If it was really just talking about debt slavery how could Jesus and Paul tell Roman slaves then to fear their master as if they were God? The concept doesn't make sense and Roman slaves were clearly not all or even as a majority "just" bond servants. The old Testament wasn't even written in Greek on which you base your interpretation on. You pick and choose the context you like and ignore the rest. Yes it is true in parts of the Bible the Bible just refers to bond servants, but in other parts it even is stated as devine law that foreign slaves can be held for ever and beaten as ling as they don't die in the next few days. That does not fall under ant definition of "bond servants".
@@Cytoplasm4508 I hadn't even seen your comment on the video yet. You clearly haven't watched it. The reason why I cited it was because it goes more into the "full context" and at the end references the opinions of historians and Bible scholars on that topic where you can see a consensus that contradicts your conclusion. I never argued that this one video was the end all be all, just that it was giving a good overview. It depends on the arguments that are presented in the video and not on it being a video. And the two videos you cited are a bit lacking when it comes to valid arguments.
Eight major identical twin studies refute Rudds Lies they were born that way. Romans 1 describes how they got that way. It has to do with them rejecting God..and as a result, .." God gave them over to a reprobate mind".
@C K Well it sure made sense to former KGB defector Yuri Bezmenov. Here's how he explains it: "It takes 15 to 20 years to demoralize a nation. Most of it is done by Americans to Americans. Thanks to lack of moral standards, a person who was demoralized is unable to assess true information. The facts tell nothing to him. Even if I show him concentration camps, he will refuse to believe until he receives a kick in his fat bottom. When the military boot crashes his balls, THEN he will understand!" And God doesn't influence them into thinkin or doing them vile things, they do that of their own volition. Everyone is born with the spirit of Christ in them (your conscience to know good from evil). What happens with a demoralized person is that spirit has left them, the truth means nothing to them, and they have lost the will to repent due to gross immoral practices. At that point, God gives up on them. Thus the Bible says, "God gave them up, God gave them over to a reprobate mind" 3X.

Homosexuality has been accepted and celebrated in cultures around the world at different times in history, until someone came along with some puritan, self-righteous values, and tried to force them on other people.
The Bible doesn't support slavery. It simply recognizes it. Example: A slave master told a slave to carry sand bags or get whipped. The slave became upset not wanting to carry sand. My decision on how to respond to this ignorant thing my master wants done, is optional... Either I let it go and decide not to worry about it Or I could just fight him about his nonsense and cause chaos. ---- Just because I think the slave should obey the master and not fight, does in no way, agree with the masters doing! If a man were to strike one cheek, turn to the other.
Fr0stBite The Bible issues specific instructions on how to handle a slave, how to treat your slaves, what punishments are acceptable for your slaves and for what offenses, how to buy and sell your wife, what rights and protections (such as they were) a slave is entitled to, etc etc. The Bible doesn't literally say "Slavery is good" but it certainly condones the practice. In fact, the Bible has always been used to justify the institution of slavery by those who would support it.

And that my dears, showcases the main problem with the bible. It completely contradicts itself in every area except 'be good to your fellow man' . Why should we follow the bible about being gay, when no one follows the bible about not wearing two different materials at once, not eating rabbit, and slaves obeying their masters? Ludicrous.
Marriage as an institution is independent of Christianity, and has existed before it. Thusly it follows that the institutions of marriage within a larger, multicultural society should not be constrained to Christian doctrine. At least, in my belief.
Hell, the Bible can't even keep its story straight. Solomon, a supposed good and wise king had... dozens of wives and hundreds of concubines. Yet God doesn't ever tell him straight up to knock it off, instead waiting several years. And punishes the entire Israelite kingdom. What did your average Brian do to deserve that? He probably didn't even have a concubine, let alone a second wife, and I doubt the king would listen to him if he tried to get an audience. At best he'd be kicked out, at worst executed. Why can't God make a judgement bomb more precise than an entire damn country?
Wow, I really didn't appreciate Kevin enough when we had him. Compared to the current political climate looking back is like looking into a parallel dimension where things make sense...
It's probably because Rudd's predecessor (Howard) wasn't nearly as dumb as Abbott or Morrison. So Rudd was just another smart PM but with different (and in my opinion, better) views.
How does it affect heterosexual people when homosexual people get married. What do they lose? Why would you actively oppose the way other people want to live their lives. Other people say they influence kids to be homosexual... trust me if women were not naturally attracted to men, they wouldn't be bothered with us. So people are who they are!
It does to a certain extent, I mean I think it generally affects heterosexual close relatives of the gay/lesbian person when the person has to come out, it affects personal romantic relationships we've heard many stories of married men secretly sleeping with other men that affects the wife and kids so I don't think most people are really that concerned about homosexuality, its only because it is so pushes onto everyone in the media that its hard not to have a discussion about gay rights and whether being gay is natural or not, even a Union between a man and a woman affected legislation(legal marriage), so of course homosexuality would affect legislation as well if its meant to be legalised, if you look into the history of feminism there has never been a problem with what a woman is today it is some how difficult to define this because there are transwoman as well for example, homosexuality is actually quite an interesting part of biological research in that biology has always focused on male and female nature and not male to male nature or female to female nature so assuming homosexuality has zero affect in humanity is quite unrealistic😌
So why’s marriage between a man and a woman? “well the thing is, every pastor um, Jesus said that it’s uh, marriage should be between a man and a woman and that’s what the Bible says”
Only the narrow minded will discriminate between being straight vs being gay or anything else. Personal opinion: If you're gay, good for you. If you are straight, good for you. What you claim you are has nothing to do with me and that's that.
For what its worth? Yes, hate is righteous. Hate is good. No, I think you are bing called narrow minded because you can't help being gay, but yet you still descriminate.
It is a little bit different. Through the fall mankind got twisted, selfish, alienated, hostile to God, sickness entered, death entered, all kinds of strange philosphies were made up, truth about God and who we are in Him got perverted. But then.... God stooped down in Christ to heal, restore, bring humanity back to origibal created value by His own blood, Spirit because of love. "Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty [emancipation from bondage, true freedom]. And we all, with unveiled face, continually seeing as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are progressively being transformed into His image from [one degree of] glory to [even more] glory, which comes from the Lord, [who is] the Spirit." 2 Corinthians 3:17-18 So yes there are gay people but.... if i can change by the spirit of God into His image, so can they. We are all in the same boat. On 2 occasions a man got healed of some illness under my hands afterwards admitting he was gay. God loves His creation! Next step for these man is to be rebooted back to Gods image by Holy Spirit. www.anewcreationinchrist.nl/english
2 Pet 1:3-4 I mean no disrespect when I ask, because I genuinely wish to understand your view further, but are you arguing that the Holy Spirit is capable of curing homosexuality?
I heard a lot of testimonies of man and women changed back from being gay back to man-woman relationship because they saw this love, grace, truth and were empowered by Holy Ghost to see. There is even a ministry couple who were both hard-core-gangbang-partying gay, found truth, changed, met eachother, got married and now minister to others. One gay i know personally lived under condemnation his whole life. Since i told Him this beautifull truth he fell in love with God and his whole life changed. He sees the resolve, love and determination of God on the cross and knows his future will he different...
So if the bible is tied so closely to the time period in which it was written why should we use it as justification for opposing gay marriage. The institution of marriage has drastically changed since 2000 years ago, and so has the institution of slavery, shouldn't the same logic apply to both then?
@@inigo4937 it's not tied closely with time periods only. Jesus mentioned something that was happening at the time. It doesn't mean all of his words hinged on the time period
@@crazando I agree that there are some things in the bible like love thy neighbour which are still applicable to this day, but just because the bible says something good sometimes doesn't mean we should assume everything it advocates for is good, even if it's still applicable to our day and age.
I've said it once. Ill say it again. You are a leader. I am a lesbian but that does not and will not influence the way I vote. I am voting for you because you have what it takes to lead. (I thank you none the less for standing for marriage equality) A prime minister is only as good as his, or her party and without adequate leadership, that party will languish. The opposition is a prime example of what happens without a decent, honest leader. I do not agree with all you stand for or say, but you are the person to lead this country and I can only hope you are elected. Thank you, Prime Minister Rudd.
In all honesty, the government has no place making rules in the bedroom or heart. The propensity for these issues to be used as a political football does not make it right. The constitutents should have not made this an issue. Who I marry is between myself and my lover. The government should be more concerned with running the country than my life.
The message of Christianity is different from say the message of Buddhism in the fact that with Christianity, universal love is set in the context of grace / forgiveness, which by definition assumes that humans rebel against God's clear and immutable rules and therefore need forgiveness. In Buddhism, there is compassion and universal love too, but not necessarily any God to sin against, and definitely no grace or forgiveness, because the sin/punishment equivalent (Karma) is like a law of physics - it happens no matter what, and the one you ultimately sin against is yourself, and your chances of attaining Nirvana any time soon. The point from this is that for Christianity to work at the most fundamental level, God's standard has to be seen to be clear across the generations and to be the judge of us, not the other way around. Otherwise we - the sinners, decide what sin is in each new generation, which is like the fox being in charge of the chicken coup - we'll always water down the standard to suit our current behaviour in our current generation, so we won't need to make painful changes. This approach kills grace and forgiveness too however, since if we are not sinners anymore (because we were born that way, because its natural - everyone does it these days, because one's upbringing caused it etc - whatever the topic we are talking about), then we no longer need grace or forgiveness. Maybe we just need counselling. At that point the cross of Jesus has been emptied of its power, and he died for nothing, and therefore wasn't - and isn't really "the Christ" or the judge at the end of time - actually we are. Kevin, that is where your current position leads. If you had said that as Christians in politics in a democracy we can't legislate righteousness for those who don't believe, then I would understand that your view may have some arguable basis. But your argument on Q & A , (apart from being shameful and humiliating "smack down" treatment of a member of the public, let alone a brother in Christ), displayed the fact that somewhere in the last few years you have had a fateful change of opinion on the gospel of God's grace - you no longer think God is in control of his word, no longer think he is going to judge us by it, and no longer think he has saved us from that judgement through faith in Christ. I was a rusted on labor voter and ardent Kevin Rudd supporter from the start, but I am planning to vote elsewhere this time, even though "vote compass" tells me I'm labor. I know I'm not the only one in the awful situation of having to do that. The arguments you made about slavery also displayed a terrible ignorance of the gospel. I suggest you read the beginning of 1 Corinthians to understand that God's revolutionary way is not through the weak breaking their shackles to become powerful by force in a bloody and heart rending war, but through the weak trusting the God who chooses to use the weak to nullify the strong. However the Bible does also come down very hard on slave traders - they will get their punishment in the end. It also encourages slaves who can gain their freedom in a legitimate way to do so, and it establishes that we are all equal in God's eyes no matter what our current station in life, and that many who are last now will be first in the kingdom. It also says that the poor are blessed because their situation drives them to trust in God and to rejoice in his coming kingdom rather than in the empty promises of this life. Your policies overall I mostly agree with - education, climate change, broadband, a fair go for all etc (not totally sure on refugees, but I acknowledge that is a hard one), but I am sick of seeing genuine Christians lose their faith in politics, both here and in the US, and would rather see you get your genuine, gospel-centred faith back than get to be prime minister, as that is far more important in the end. I will vote for other progressive parties this time.
You can just see the hatred in that man's heart spilling out of his eyes as the prime minister utterly destroys him. A man like that who has such unfounded hatred of innocent people should be universally despised and scolded.
I was way too young to fully appreciate this man when he was Prime Minister, and now looking back - my God the way he handles this so calmly, collectedly and maturely in a nuanced manner is chilling.
What moral argument could be brought up against something that causes no harm and is done between consenting individuals? Arguments based on scripture frankly are irrelevant, because Australia is not a theocracy, but rather a secular democracy.

Hey Pastor, is this a marriage you're willing to officiate? If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay her father fifty shekels of silver. Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. @@micahaalders9840 you forget that the time in which the OT was written was in the prime of Ancient Israel, where women had basically no hope of surviving without a husband. This is why there were so many laws in the OT that the Israelites had to follow in the protection of "the orphan and the widow." And an unmarried virgin who has just been raped would never, ever, be married to another man again. Sadly, the women's only hope at that point would be A. Actually Romans 1 says they “chose” to be this.
26 For this reason God GAVE THEM UP (He let them BE) to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature.
27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God (GAVE THEM OVER) to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;
- God tried to help them but they insisted so He GAVE them up to their lusts (Let then Be). God doesn’t give you a reason to sin and then Condemn you for it. We are all born “in the image of God” like how Genesis says.

@@Cytoplasm4508 Here is a rather balanced video that goes into detail, and also comes to the conclusion that by no means slavery in the Bible only referred to a servant or bond servant. ruclips.net/video/Kc9NGeT8z04/видео.html
It would also make no sense in terms of historical context for the Bible to only reference bond slavery.

“I just believe in what the bible says.” People who blindly accept without thinking for themselves are extremely dangerous
I would say it’s actually quite narrow-minded to assume that people just blindly accept what the Bible says just because they hear it or read it once and are convinced.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God (GAVE THEM OVER) to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;
- God tried to help them but they insisted so He GAVE them up to their lusts (Let then Be). God doesn’t give you a reason to sin and then Condemn you for it. We are all born “in the image of God” like how Genesis says.
Secondly, slavery was a different term back then. The slavery that God was was referring to us debt-paying system where people were sold to work in exchange to clear their debts. This pastor should have referenced these.
It's reductionist but it's still accurate in a roundabout way. Your sexual preferences are determined by environmental factors. What environment you grow up in is entirely determined by who you were born to, and thus, determined at birth.

How you look
I still don't understand why people think being gay is a choice Like I didn't wake up one morning deciding to be gay. Why would I choose something that makes my life 10x harder?
Hell yeah! The look on that guy's face after he's reminded of what the Bible says about slavery. Homosexuality is ABSOLUTELY, without doubt, unequivocally natural. As long as there have been people, there have been gay people. Homosexual behavior happens regularly in the natural world. Homosexuality has been accepted and celebrated in cultures around the world at different times in history, until someone came along with some puritan, self-righteous values, and tried to force them on other people.
The Bible doesn't support slavery. It simply recognizes it.
Example:
A slave master told a slave to carry sand bags or get whipped. The slave became upset not wanting to carry sand.
My decision on how to respond to this ignorant thing my master wants done, is optional...
Either I let it go and decide not to worry about it
Or I could just fight him about his nonsense and cause chaos.
----
Just because I think the slave should obey the master and not fight, does in no way, agree with the masters doing!
MrStoneycool69 Straight people see an "anus passage as a way of sexual pleasure"... Or have you never watched a porno before? Maybe you haven't. But a high percentage of straight people also engage in anal sex with their spouse/partner. You argument is ridiculous.
Cee Bee I've never seen homosexuals procreate naturally, how is that natural?

As a Christian I can confirm I don’t care if someone is gay as long as they don’t try to fuck me.
So why’s marriage between a man and a woman?
“well the thing is, every pastor um, Jesus said that it’s uh, marriage should be between a man and a woman and that’s what the Bible says”

Now there’s a man with a backbone. Well done.
Only the narrow minded will discriminate between being straight vs being gay or anything else.
Personal opinion: If you're gay, good for you. If you are straight, good for you. What you claim you are has nothing to do with me and that's that.
Narrow minded? l called them principled people with righteous hearts.
And we all, with unveiled face, continually seeing as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are progressively being transformed into His image from [one degree of] glory to [even more] glory, which comes from the Lord, [who is] the Spirit."
2 Corinthians 3:17-18
So yes there are gay people but.... if i can change by the spirit of God into His image, so can they. We are all in the same boat.
On 2 occasions a man got healed of some illness under my hands afterwards admitting he was gay. God loves His creation! Next step for these man is to be rebooted back to Gods image by Holy Spirit.

The bible does not say that slavery is a natural condition. Jesus merely addressed what was happening at the time.
@@crazando I agree that there are some things in the bible like love thy neighbour which are still applicable to this day, but just because the bible says something good sometimes doesn't mean we should assume everything it advocates for is good, even if it's still applicable to our day and age.

wow, that guy was giving you the Julie Bishop death stare!
I've said it once. Ill say it again. You are a leader.
I am a lesbian but that does not and will not influence the way I vote. I am voting for you because you have what it takes to lead. (I thank you none the less for standing for marriage equality)
A prime minister is only as good as his, or her party and without adequate leadership, that party will languish. The opposition is a prime example of what happens without a decent, honest leader.
I do not agree with all you stand for or say, but you are the person to lead this country and I can only hope you are elected.
Thank you, Prime Minister Rudd.
A leader with vision.
I love this man. We need more of him in the world.
You can just see the hatred in that man's heart spilling out of his eyes as the prime minister utterly destroys him. A man like that who has such unfounded hatred of innocent people should be universally despised and scolded.
I was way too young to fully appreciate this man when he was Prime Minister, and now looking back - my God the way he handles this so calmly, collectedly and maturely in a nuanced manner is chilling.
no idea why this is in my recommended, but I love it
Just because something naturally occurs doesn’t mean it’s morally right
What moral argument could be brought up against something that causes no harm and is done between consenting individuals? Arguments based on scripture frankly are irrelevant, because Australia is not a theocracy, but rather a secular democracy.
Can you find a logical reason to oppose it? WITHOUT bringing up religion.
Eight major identical twin studies refute Rudds Lies they were born that way. Romans 1 describes how they got that way. It has to do with them rejecting God..and as a result, .." God gave them over to a reprobate mind".

Hey Pastor, is this a marriage you're willing to officiate?
If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay her father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives.
Deuteronomy 22:28-29
Christians don't follow the law of the Mosaic covenant (stuff you find in books like the Leviticus and Deuteronomy)
@@herecomesnobody4608 Christ himself disagrees:
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:17-20
@@micahaalders9840 you forget that the time in which the OT was written was in the prime of Ancient Israel, where women had basically no hope of surviving without a husband. This is why there were so many laws in the OT that the Israelites had to follow in the protection of "the orphan and the widow." And an unmarried virgin who has just been raped would never, ever, be married to another man again. Sadly, the women's only hope at that point would be A. Stay in her fathers house until he died and the family possibly kicked her out or B. (Which I do believe is still quite abhorrent) marry the man who violated her and move into the relative safety of his household, becoming a part of it.
@@rustaholic2546 Well, you'd think that if Yahweh could tell people not to eat shrimp, and then kill them for picking up sticks on Saturday (Num. 15) or not cumming inside their step-sister (gen. 38) He could figure out how to get his people into a better society than what they eventually learned from the Persians, Greeks, and Romans.
I'd rather worship Ahura Mazda and Zeus. Those gods were more conducive to healthy societies than the Bible god.
