I so enjoy your videos. I am an amateur taxidermist for myself. One technique i picked up from you is mounting the bird wet and drying it after. It is so much easier to see everything. Thanks a lot!
@@ArtofTaxidermy I found a freshly dead Merlin hawk the other day, that i want to mount. I've been watching RUclipss and found yours! Some use tanning liquid after cleaning, some don't. What say thee?

Thanks for the video Ben. I echo others....the voice over is a great idea and so helpful. Question - does the glue activator slow down the dry time? I've never heard of activator to use with krazy glue or any other super glue for that matter. Looking forward to the grooming voice over and would also like one on your airbrush and finish work on a bird. Thanks from WI!
Bruce Maatta the activator speeds it’s up, it turns a slow or medium crazy glue into a fast 2-3 second dry time. I will create more videos that covers other parts of the work.
@@ArtofTaxidermy hey, if I may ask one more question. What kind of adhesive do you use to attach the skin to the form? Having trouble finding info on this. Thanks
One very inportant question: what wire gauge do you use in a bird like that? Too small becames woobly and too strong may break the bones. Mário Ferreira
Mário Ferreira I use black anield wire, they are soft but strong. I think I used 18 for the legs and 20 for wings and neck. I have to double check though.
Hi Ben when wiring do you mark where you enter the body, wings and legs, or you just know from experience? Also the wires here in Australia taxidermy supplies are limited the wires are non existent when googling it takes you to the USA. We can get wires in a coil This would be very hard for leg work etc. what’s the alternative? Bite the bullet and post them.
John… none of my wires are coming from taxidermy suppliers.. I buy them from local hardware stores , they come in different size coil and I cut what I need to straighten them with hammer on my bench vice.
Buffalo Chip84 no I don’t use any fuel anymore, I just wash them very well and rinse them very good. About head lamps, I have used many of them but I like the ones that has reflector and I can adjust the tilt.
what solutions did you use to cured the skin if you can tell me please ??? Beautifull clean work and very protectional by the way you have one more subscriber here
As a wildlife photographer, I have no idea why someone wouldn’t want their photography advertised just because it’s associated with taxidermy, I would love if someone used my photos as reference.
Well.. good point .. I thought it would advertise for him too but He didn’t like it. If you do have a website, let me know what it is and if I find a reference among your photos I can use it and will mention your website. I have a few other photographers that let me use their clips and photos.
Hi John Good to hear from you. Yes I do use caulking. My older videos were quite shortened and edited due to the size of the videos and I still have a bunch of them I haven’t uploaded yet. In my new videos you will see when I caulk them. Keep watching we will get to them. Cheers.
Cheers my friend. I’m glad you like the videos. I learn on how to make better videos as I go forward. But I’m telling you, it’s not easy and it takes a lot of time energy.
Hi Ben it’s John you said you was going to take a picture of the home made fleshing tools and basic taxidermy tools for birds. It would be appreciated. Also have you got a link to previous work.any head sculpting setting eyes on small birds of prey. Thanks
Hi John Thanks for the message , I have taken a bunch of photos and they are in my camera. Just have to get the time to make a slide show out of them and upload. I wish this RUclips channel was all I was doing … but I’m running a full time taxidermy shop and my videos are based on my current work schedule. I still have lots of videos that I just need to edit and upload.
Your taxidermy is almost exactly the way I do it. What is it that you spray unto the crazy glue? I like your twine holder, never seen that before. I use more caulking at the tail base, neck area, and over the whole body so the skin slides nice. Also shapes nice.
SAvAG3 HuNt3R09 my videos are based on my daily work schedule , so whatever is next in my calendar to do will get filmed. But I will have small birds need skinning I make sure to film it. 👍
You skin a small bird the same as big birds, but very carefully, and very slowly.keep the skin moist, and yet the faster you do it the better it will look.Any time you take too much time, things dry out. Be sure to pick a fresh specimen. I still have 50 to 100 small birds to do, but do remember the need for permits.
Videos are in HD quality therefore they have a very large file size.. uploading them is a challenge. if you watch enough of my videos, in each video Ill slow down some parts so eventually you will see all parts slowed down. cheers
I will. Im still putting voice over the videos that were not taken with the same intention.. in the near future I will be posting more videos recorded with voice over in mind.
Please keep making voiceovers to educate beginners like me.
Deadbynow I’ll do my best.
Wow as you glued the feathers on the face I could almost feel the bird begin to come to life
I know what you mean. It can totally change its look every minute and once you blow dry it… bam , you almost got a bird.

as bird bones are hollow inside they are easier to whire right?
I only wire inside the wing bones on some birds otherwise the wire will be taped to the outside of the bones.
Thanks for the advice!
