Carving And Painting A Bird of Prey Out Of Wood - American Kestrel

- Follow along as I carve and paint this falcon (the American Kestrel) from start to finish. Using rotary power tools I shape the bird and then burn in the feather details. After which I meticulously render the birds plumage using artists acrylic paints to capture all the details. Thank you for watching.

That's one gorgeous piece of art , truly a masterpiece
Thank you for the compliment. It is great to hear! Thanks for taking the time to watch.
OMG, that is SO beautiful! Never mind that that is my ultimate favorite bird of prey, your skill and command of color and form is exemplary!
Truly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time watch.
The scene you set with the Falcon and the fence is so life like! Nicely done!!
Thank you Alex and thank you for the music!!
Watching the transformation at such a fast rate and seeing the spectacular end result is simply amazing.
Now if only I could actually carve a piece that fast! 😁 ❤️
Wow, gracias por compartir tan espectacular arte. ❤
Hola, muchas gracias
Awesome Jason! One of my favourite birds . Nice touch with the primaries above and below the tail. thanks for posting
Thank you and yes I like the over/under primaries also. It adds a little asymmetry to the bird.
Looks so natural,very nice!

I had just cut out a Kestrel blank to work on next week at our demonstration. I am sure to return to this video a lot while I am carving it.
I hope it's helpful Don.
My dad used to carve all sorts of ducks, birds, and fish. Keep up the good work!
Thank you. I had spoke a few times with your dad on Facebook before.
@Jason Lucio Art He passed away last May. Loved everything hunting, fishing and carving!
Exquisite!
Thank you again.
Just wow
Thank you Matt.
Beautiful. Wish I could see how you did the fence.

@@patrickmurray9409 thank you so much
👍👏
It looks like you could shoo it off that fence and it would fly away!
======================================================================
😁Thank you!
Superb! Might I ask, what would you say is your average completion time if all goes swimmingly with a project?
It really depends on the size of the bird but something like this falcon would be around 5 weeks.
@@JasonLucioArt Thank you very much for your reply!
Simply excellent final result, just a pity it didn't show the air brush techniques and application, just the hand work (although simply amazingEh!) 😬
Many thanks and I will keep that in mind for future videos.
Nice work Jason. May I ask where you got your pattern from as I'm contemplating on carving one myself
Hi Steve, I drew this pattern up myself. I am looking to finalize it and make it available for download here on RUclips in the near future. Thanks for watching and asking.
Thanks so much Jason! Your work is inspiring!
Do you sell your carvings
Yes I do. You can see them on my website www.jasonlucioart.com
is that basswood?
No it's Tupelo wood. If you aren't familiar with it it is a very light, somewhat soft wood. Carves great with power tools and very little grain.
I noticed one wing didn't have flight feathers, was this intentional? I'm an artist myself. 😊
Actually, one wing crosses over the top of the tail and the other is slightly hidden by being tucked under the tail. I can see how you thought that though.
At around
6:45 you can see them both.
@@JasonLucioArt you're right, my bad! Beautiful work bro.
@@matthewalexander2436 Thank you.
Nice to see someone with actual skills on youtube. Great work.
Thank you very much.
