Thank you for always giving me a good answers When you do bird flushing, do you cut the wing and remove the fat and sew it? I don't think I saw that part in the video ^^... Thank you
Yes… most of the time I cut the under wing, clean and sew back up. Some times on ducks and geese I don’t do that, I invert the wings instead, specially for flying mounts. But both methods work. I don’t make a lot of skinning and fleshing videos because RUclips policy doesn’t like gory and disturbing scenes. But if you go through my older videos I believe I have done skinning videos.
I acquired a golden pheasant. It has the leg bones, the wing bones and the skull but I does not have the original body and the neck. I bought an artificial body but I’m trying to figure it out the length of the neck. Not sure how to guess it. Is it a percentage of the length of the body? And do I need to buy an artificial head or can I use the real skull? Thanks Ben.
It you haven’t mounted I’ve before then you are going to have to guesstimate the length of the neck by looking at the skin. Does the artificial body fit the skin ? There is no scientific rule of body length to neck length ratio.. every bird is different. If the body fits, just slide it inside the skin, then gently pull the skull away ( not too tight) from the body and visualize the length of the neck and go from there. You can use the real skull , just clean it pretty good. I do have golden pheasant but they are at the bottom of my freezers. If it was a ring necked I could give you a size but I haven’t skinned a golden for years.
Man, you make it look so easy!
Each bird Ive done (which isnt many) took me about 2 hours to skin. very impressive!
👍 thank you much.
your videos are so calming, even the skinning ones. You are very good at what you do

🥰 ^^
What powdery type material did you sprinkle on the bird as you were skinning it?
Thats just borax.. I use to get a better grip. and it also dries up the excess liquid from the bird.
Was this bird soaked in alcohol before surgery? I'm from Indonesia and want to learn
Skin preservation happens after the skin is removed from the body.
Was there no action before the bird was dissected? Like soaking or something
Are you using the bird's own eyes or an artificial eye?
Acrylic eyes.
@@ArtofTaxidermy where can I find it
@@tunahanyorulmaz9936 many online suppliers available to you.. just google Taxidermy eyes.
Love the videos
Thanks Matt.
I’m thinking of practicing on quail to get this down. How do you preserve the skin after this?
I have a video about that. Look for a video called “how to deal with bugs”
