First taxidermy video I have ever watched. I gotta say, I wasn’t expecting this at all. And I have to tell you, oh did awesome handling the parrot with care and realizing he means something to people. Really appreciate it
I agree, it's great that he understands that this bird was an important creature in the life of their people. Whenever I work with a dead animal, I start off talking to them when I'm skinning or butchering. It's not a belief in spirit thing, necessarily, although it's not NOT that. It's a respect thing. I think, "Oh, you must have been proud of that shiny, beautiful coat!" or I'll say, "What marvelous clever paws you had!" I'm trained as a scientist, so I know the names of the muscles and bones, how all the organs work, etc. But that never lessens my awe and happiness at the elegance and beauty of how all of us vertebrate animals are put together.
I hope I'm a human again in my next life but if that's not possible I'd like to be a parrot. Preferably one that lives long. Some parrots can live to be 60-80.
Very nice! I’ve heard of doing the wings like that before but have never seen it done. Makes a lot of sense to keep those secondaries in the correct position. Would make mounting much easier and more accurate to life. I’d love to see how you flesh waterfowl. I’ve been struggling a bit. I find it’s hard to know when you’ve fleshed enough or too much. Thanks for the video!!!
TheDecoyDude I don’t do that fleshing and most of my skinning myself ( I have an assistant doing it for me ) ... but there are a couple of waterfowls that I’m supposed to flesh myself. I’ll video that too. Stay tuned.
I can't wait for the video of the rest! I haven't been able to find anything about parrot mounting with actual steps for many years! I have 3 in the freezer. I have skinned 1 out, but really need to see what may be different from mounting other birds. I saved the body to carve one from it.

Everything living shall one die. Everything living also has its time to live and time to die. The human body expires and it's gone. some people do. most people dont. But they can give the dead Bird to be preserved and be enjoyed by others..but for sure its better than wasting them under the ground.

Well... I’m sure you are not alone and the nice thing is that we have lots of options and choices about what we do .... if you find it selfish then I guess you’d better not practice this, but my view on this is to respect the beauty that once was alive and now we preserve it to enjoy it even longer than before instead of letting it go to waste. This bird passed away after a couple of decades and we had two options burry it and let it decompose and gets wasted or preserve it and cherish its beauty for years to come and in some cases use it as an educational item, I choose the second option all the time.
