    I’ve bought my first house with my wife and kid. My family has different professions my uncle is a painter my dad an industrial Plummer my other uncle an engineer and contractor but despite all that I’ve learned more from your videos I searched for how to build a shed because our new house has limited storage space and since I found you easiest to learn from I learnt about the tools and screws and different methods. Basically the basics from A to Z about home diy stuff. Well done this is better that the shit I learnt in school as a short half year time as builder and welder. I’m a karate teacher not a engineer but now I got the confidence I can break a board with my hand and build a shed with my drill and skill saw 😂 new sub you’ve earned much thanks from the Norway 🇳🇴

    Inspiring design. This couple is exactly where we are right now. I've got a slightly different deck dilemma.
    It's 200sf, on the north side of my house. The original contractors didn't install any aggregate beneath, so it's just dirt that never dries out and a mushroomy old stump. The big square is inside the "L" shape of the house, so ventilation is terrible. It attracts critters year round who find ways into the walls. The decking has rotted through in spots.
    I'm thinking about A) replacing it entirely with a paver patio, preparing the substrate as in Jeff's ceramic tile patio video (awesome). However, to save lots of money - this place needs $10K here, $15K there, it never ends - I could also build B) a similar, but better deck using composite decking and combat critters with mesh.
    If I go for the replacement deck, is it overkill to compact multiple layers of aggregate and landscape membrane first?
    I want ZERO critters and I want it to get bone dry after snow melt and rain. I've done so many projects in the age of COVID and learned the law: preparation is 90% of the job. We're going to keep this house forever, eventually as a rental, just like the couple in this video.

    • @HomeRenoVisionDIY
      @HomeRenoVisionDIY  3 года назад +1

      I would suggest the patio this year. make sure you buy your pavers before starting they have limited stock! aggregates are easily come by still however.

    Hi Jeff! Membership question. I am looking at joining (been subscribed for a long time and we love how you teach so much.) but wondered which level is right for me. I am a young widow with 4 teens. I bought a house that is so tiny with 0 open floor. Some days I feel I live in a rat maze with all these boxed spaces. Is there a number of questions or advice per level you will answer? Money is tight but if I screw it up and the house falls in well....money will be even more tight. ;) I want to make sure I am in the right level. I have attempted to get a contractor to come to the house but since so many homes were destroyed in the tornados they are all busy. So, can you answer questions about truss style and tell if it would be safe to remove a wall? And if you can which level would that fall under? Thank you for your time! The kids and I love watching your show. You give that heh HEH! laugh and it makes all of us laugh! :)
    ~Honey

    Ok Jeff now that I see the symbol by my name i know you will see this right? I just tore down 12' X 24' section of my deck. 7 years old rotting like crazy. terrible. Here's what i need to know. I"m installing a swim spa, 20' X 8' , 1500 gallons, 25,000 lbs full plus kids and waves. I'm pouring a pad 8' down on the ground 6" thick with 1/2" rebar. the pad will be about 11 X 24. The tub is 6' tall and i want 20" sticking above the new deck which will be where the old one was at 8 to 9' above grade. What do you recommend that i do to build a platform for the swim spa at abour 5' above grade. how would you build that elevated platform. The new deck will be built around the swim spa and probably be build after the swim spa is set.

      contact a helical pile company to do drawings for you so you can structure a platform to hold the weight. Or contact a structural engineer for drawings. Cheers!

      in a perfect world. but remember the goal here was for a 1st time deck builder to do it DIY and on a tight budget. There are better design options for sure but I don't want to criticize the work. it looks great functions well and he did it alone. I say that's a win

    Weird format for this video. I mean I don't really get it. You go into a place tell them a few pointers about building something and then come back once it's done to gloat? Was this just some type of motivational video to make people feel like they can do something? There wasn't any instructions, no video of the building process, nothing... I guess people can just watch it and say "oh wow they did it." Meh.
