An unsponsored player who traveled to america with $300 in his pocket winning the tournament and becoming a millionaire is some hollywood feel good sports movie plotting

  • @colonelpopcorn7702

Watching this live was great, but why’d they gotta interview Chris Wong like that? Somebody better get a stern talking to for that

  • @freack3333

Knowing now that Uma was unsponsored just makes his victory so much sweeter.

  • @BurnedRetinas

Like Slasher said on Twitter, an unsponsored player winning $1 million dollars in a hololive anime hoodie over a sponsored player is the big difference between the FGC and eSports

This is unironically what the purpose of the online qualifiers was for. Allowing non sponsored players to compete. Low and behold, an unsponsored player wins even though the amount of comments in the discussion around the online qualifiers that went "you really think a noname will beat angrybird or menard" were an overwhelming majority.

You always know it's gonna be a banger when you see Brine open up his browser and you see 30 tabs open

  • @thomasprovitt1806

It seems "If I win, I can show off my Oshi" Is a really powerful motivator.

  • @nekogami87

Side note, it looks like UMA was wearing a japanese hololive vtuber sweater merch, and that when twitter fans of hololive noticed that, they just had to root for him :D

  • @casualgamerdad2878

As a salary man, I really feel for Chris Wong. I can only imagine how much better he could be as a full-time pro gamer.

  • @MissSchala

Definitely didn’t know of UMA Kagami before but he was so great to watch. Love this debrief, thanks for putting this together!

  • @clairemadeinheaven

so glad Uma won, true underdog story

The best part of the end of UMA vs. C.Wong. Prefect parry > DI > Burnout opponent > DI get Stun > Drive rush Combo call the game. what a SF6 moment.

  • @eatit8262

This is the exact kind of story line I was hoping would play out. There was a lot of doom speak about group F ruining the tournament, but an unsponsored broke gamer made it to the summit. Repeat champions are good, but new champions are required for the competitive scene to move forward.

  • @nickkiller-0710

I still feel bad for Chris Wong, not because he lost, UMA played godlike and he deserved his 1mil, but because they interviewed Wong *right after he lost*.

  • @lucasmaciel3850

I gotta say, as a new Street Fighter player, these videos are a godsend. The way you contextualize the players' history into the tournament recaps really helps me understand the big picture of these storylines. Amazing job, man!

  • @raineheartily4580

The Capcom champ might not join Redbull SF invitational Kumite because its held in the same day of Hololive annual festival/concert.

  • @dustinsteiner9730

Great recap - this was almost like a sportscenter presentation. Good work.

  • @cylondorado4582

I literally had never heard of Uma, but his games were awesome to watch. When he started using Juri lvl 1 to get under Luke's lvl 1, I really started paying attention. I also appreciate how when Chris Wong won the first set, I figured grand finals was going to be quick and dissapointing. But then Uma was pretty much like, "Call an ambulance... but not for me."

  • @thespeedof5999

SO many people were saying all the players in Group G (INCLUDING Uma) didn’t even deserve to be at Capcom Cup. It’s only fitting someone from Group G ended up beating everyone and won it all.

Just one small correction: Chris Wong first get qualified from France premier, then Uma qualified from Taiwan/Hong Kong WW regional final "AFTER". As a Taiwan FGC member, we fully aware that Chris Wong joins regional final purely for money (like you mentioned in the video, he's a salary man) and we respect his decision. Though Chris Wong did not being delayed to qualify because of UMA.
