He's lead up to his Evo win was pretty nutty. Won CEO, carried his team in the Korean tournament, and finally cooked Menas Blanka in TNS and Arm the Rebels.
Punk's win was cathartic man. The crowd chanting 'You deserve it' at the very end put me to tears. Now I just hope that Big Bird gets his Evo W in the future.

Man so glad that Punk won. Finally sn AMERICAN took SF. Felt bad for Big Bird cuz he definitely can do it too! However, I took major notice to Ending Walker getting top 6 and 3rd place on his SECOND attempt after getting 64th last time. Definitely a threat at such a young age. First time ever going to EVO and glad I got to witness all of this in person. Also, thank you Brian for allowing me to get a photo with you and Rewind at the last moment of the last day. Met alot of FGC legends. 👏🏾👏🏾 This EVO was a great one!
Brian I'm always SO impressed by your ability on the mic. The world right now is filled with people who smash cut the fuck out of their videos to try and piece together their words and remove the uhh and umm's or try to make themselves sound more concise. You have 1347 tabs open and you went thru every single one without so much of a stammer. Even if you wouldn't make it into a mt rushmore for the FGC, I would guarantee that you would make it to the rushmore of YT commentary. You'd be front and center.
Watching this match live had me going through it. I wanted Punk to win so fuckin badly. When he hit that low forward, I got so hyped and just shot out of my seat, I could not be happier for the man.
8:20 dropping a bnb into hitting a super tough desync is so funny but it also really shows how seasoned Momochi's mental game is to not let that drop immediately affect his execution.
The first Evo I watched was 2016. The earliest FGC storyline that I was exposed to was LI Joe fighting tooth and nail for the USA. And while I didn't watch it in 2017, learning how Punk almost clutched the win in his DEBUT EVO was insane. Not to mention the lasting rivalry with Tokido, who's one of my favorite players to watch. This was the first Evo I actually got to attend. I didn't get into the arena, but I was chilling in Maximilian Dood's watch party. And the energy was immaculate. Easily one of the highlights of the weekend.
Even though I watched all of EVO and have been in the FGC for 2 decades, this was still super fun to watch. Thanks for the recap Brian. "THAT IS THE MOMENT THAT DECIDED THE TOURNAMENT"
This was an amazing Evo, so many literal breath taking moments. I'm happy for Punk, he really knocked it out of the park. If I had to name only one of the highlights, I think it would be the mirror match between Momochi and Endingwalker at the finals. Seeing these two complelety different playstyles (that came a bit closer in that moment) clash and the Ed gameplay really shine with these two experts on the character was just awesome to watch. And yes, in Endingwalker's first game in the top 6 against Big Bird it was so noticeable that he was nervous, he played quite differently, very defensive but I'm glad he turned around for a great third place.
Congrats to Punk for winning Evo. He played amazing and i was happy to see him finally break through and win this event. I also hope to see Big Bird win EVO as well in the future. I felt bad for Nemo as well...that stick malfunction was so unlucky. That being said EW was the stand out for me this year. 3rd place at his first EVO at 17 is insane. If he keeps at it he is going to be the future of SF. As always great video Brine!
Awesome video, tournaments like EVO have so many stories going on, and you do a great job at telling them. 18:31 you misremembered here, it was Momochi's stick that malfunctioned which gave Gamerbee a round, but Momochi won the final round to win EVO.
One thing about punk is his dominance and not necessarily his result. So, despite no cc win or evo at the time, hes still like just 1 inch below the mt. Rushmore for street fighter and thats a fact.
Seeing this live was absolutely incredible. Punk played amazingly and Big Bird was also a sight to behold. As a Marisa main, I felt so bad for Big Bird, but Punk really did earn his victory and the energy in the arena was insane. My favourite part of this whole finale was the crowd chanting "you deserve it" as Punk held the Evo trophy, causing him to shed a few more tears of joy. The FGC is something really special and I want to thank you Brian for doing such a phenomenal job telling these stories in such a captivating way!
Quick correction. Evo 2015 grand final. Momochi v Gamerbee. It was Momochi’s controller that failed. The set was 2-2, and Momochi had won round 1. The controller failure cost him round two and they went into the final round of the tournament
Great video as always, super impressive that you do these in one take, thats talent, about Punk’s win, I cried, when he was down 60% hp I thought it was over, when he jumped I thought it was even more over, it happened in slow motion, I couldn’t believe it landed, it was the very last thing Big Bird expected, he was in the middle of a tornado input, saw the jump, n couldn’t input his anti-air in time, pure panic set in as he got hit with everything plus the kitchen sink afterwards, best finals I ever watched live, best Evo moment I ever seen live (I didn’t see Daigo’s parry live)
18:33 Just wanted to correct this real quick. It was actually Momochi’s controller that malfunctions. Momochi got his stick replaced, Gamerbee won the round, and then Momochi took the next round and one EVO.
It was a pleasure chatting with you and getting a photo! I’m the Alex stan that was talking to you and Mahreen. I was delighted to hear that you both agree that my boi should’ve been in SF6!
I can safely say that this has been the most memorable evo for quite a while for me thanks to streetfighter 6. There was so much going on from every angle and then the icing on the cake was seeing punk get his trophy after so long. This evo had young prodigies, major upsets, nail biting matches, incredible comebacks, devastating beatdowns, redemption, scores settled, stick malfunctions, demons put to rest, fantastic callouts, well earned victories and kept me glued to the screen the whole time. This one will be hard to beat for me.
I am looking so forward to watching this tomorrow. Since watching the evo sf6 finals, I've had no one to talk to about it (as no one in my circle watches any of the fgc videos). The Grand finals were so moving; the way that punk won it. and I also felt so disheartened for Big Bird. One of the best finals in my opinion.
Didn’t get a chance to even see at this EVO Brian, but that’s because of how big the turn out was. Hope you had a blast and it seems like you made out without getting sick.
I really appreciate the effort you put in the vids making them as informative as possible while not explaining every minute detail to keep them concise. Thanks for the documentary-ish video on the EVO hopefully I can go to one in the upcoming years. Keep up the bangers coming.
Thanks for the story. I'm not hardcore FGC but I watch Evo every year and I've seen Punk's name over the years and seeing his emotional win was contagious. Learning about the scope of the story makes it that much more fulfilling.

Brian just literally did an EVO and Punk documentary using 1000 chrome tabs! Impressive! BTW Nemos faulty controller had custom additional buttons that his replacement controller didn't have.
I remember watching evo on twitch with a buddy of mine and when it came to the grand finales he asked who I thought would win and I said “Punk without a single doubt in my mind!” Then the reset happened and we were looking at the twitch poll and it it was like 44% Punk and 56% Big Bird and then he asked if I still chose Punk. I replied with three simple words. I’m a believer. And best believe that when they had that final interaction and punk got the hit I yelled at the top of my lungs I TOLD YOU I WAS A BELIEVER!!! Absolutely well done to both competitors 👏🏽
That was a crazy good match. I wasn’t sure who I’d rather win since either Punk winning or having both Birds win back to back would have been cool, and then it went right down to the wire.
14 years, not quite 20 but still way to long. Punk joins a very short list of players that has taken an EVO title in Street Fighter from the USA. Graham Wolfe, Alex Wolfe, Alex Valle, Mike Watson, John Choi, Jason Cole, Afro Legends, Justin Wong (teams with Issei), Snake Eyez & Punk. It's been long over due. Celebrate the man, he earned it.
HD Remix was not the main Street Fighter of 2010, which is what people are talking about. Because Daigo didn't pull up in 2010 going "I have been really labbing things out in Sirloin's masterpiece", he came there for SF4 like everybody else and entered HD Remix because it was a side thing to do. Trying to bring that up here is like trying to bring up a random 13 person side event; it's a meaningless factoid that doesn't actually get to the heart of what people are talking about, which is the stakes at the highest level of competition (which here is the main SF title at Evo).
This was easily THE most hype EVO I've ever watched, and I only really started paying attention to EVO a year before the pandemic X3 Punk, BigBird and EndingWalker are all the GOATs imo
after every major tournalment i just wait your video. It was worth the waiting, you perfectly summarized everything, As for the torunalment, i honestly hated first Punk, the cocky teabagger, but in the latest years, i found myself rooting for him, and was extremely happy for his win. The guy is without any doubt the most skilled player for sf in the world right now.
I have only followed SF since SF6 came out. I mean as a melee player I knew of lots of SF stuff but never played. Punk is one of those things I knew before I got involved. Watching him win Evo almost made me cry. So stoked for the guy.
These are my favorite type of videos you make. Seems like they do well, but thought I'd say thanks anyways. It's super interesting if I missed the tournament, and still interesting if I watched it.
Nemo's controller disconnect situation just makes me give more respect to Angry Bird. In the grand finals of Evo 2023, when MenaRD's controller disconnected temporarily, Angrybird didn't take the round, he didn't mind it and continued on with the fight. A true player right there.
Ending Walker’s rise is eerily similar to Punk’s rise with how young and how good he was, except EW is younger, and better at the same ages. Punk’s window to have a run of consecutive wins might be smaller than we think, because EW is coming. With so much foundation and young reflexes…he might be the Al Gaib of Street fighter 🤣

First video i've seen from your channel and wow what story telling, great job man!
27:57 that photo is gold
That was a crazy good match. I wasn’t sure who I’d rather win since either Punk winning or having both Birds win back to back would have been cool, and then it went right down to the wire.
Took long enough B... I was waiting on you to give Punk his Flowers!
Great Video!!!
Love it!
Stay doing your thing Bro! 👍
GODLIKE VIDEO Brian! You encapsulated this EVO perfectly!! Bravo
Amazing reporting/story telling on Brian_F's part. I personally
really enjoy these videos. I'm already looking forward to next year
Evo.
Why does the thumbnail look like a funeral photo? All jokes aside, it was an amazing tournament.
Smug has also won EVO
@@Iswearimfunnyhehewasn’t that in SFIV after V was already out?
@@lt_johnmcclane Yeah, but still EVO
@@Iswearimfunnyhehe yeah but Brian made the caveat that the curse was for the main Street fighter title at the time evo took place
This was easily THE most hype EVO I've ever watched, and I only really started paying attention to EVO a year before the pandemic X3
Punk, BigBird and EndingWalker are all the GOATs imo

Shout out to Vexanie, that picture is COLD
thank you brianf, excellent retelling
after every major tournalment i just wait your video. It was worth the waiting, you perfectly summarized everything, As for the torunalment, i honestly hated first Punk, the cocky teabagger, but in the latest years, i found myself rooting for him, and was extremely happy for his win. The guy is without any doubt the most skilled player for sf in the world right now.
watched the whole tournament, still watched your amazing recap, well done sir, what a tournament!
I have only followed SF since SF6 came out. I mean as a melee player I knew of lots of SF stuff but never played. Punk is one of those things I knew before I got involved. Watching him win Evo almost made me cry. So stoked for the guy.
How did Zhen take out PimpBot9000?!? That guy is clutch.
Yeah I was surprised too. Hope to see him and PimpHand304 make Capcom Cup and avenge themselves😂
Great video that told the story of the event of Evo 2024 well
These are my favorite type of videos you make.
Diabolical thumbnail
Ending Walker’s rise is eerily similar to Punk’s rise with how young and how good he was, except EW is younger, and better at the same ages. Punk’s window to have a run of consecutive wins might be smaller than we think, because EW is coming. With so much foundation and young reflexes…he might be the Al Gaib of Street fighter 🤣
