As someone who grew up playing Dragon Ball Z games Fighters Z was a lot different than what im used to. I’d say the last amazing Dragon Ball Z game up until Kakarot and the upcoming Sparking Zero, Dragon Ball Raging Blast 2 is the least talked about game ever and i dont know how media never covered it. That game was so much fun and i made so many memories

I mean, when you say "Fighting game community" that's such a wide blanket, 2D and 3D fighting games themselves differ immensely not to mention all the different franchises and sub-genres.
I already felt it was lackluster compared to the customization of moves of MK10, as usual your average player can't form opinions unless they're high in ranked or a pro.

Or its like saying nba jam is your favorite basketball game. Which just like mk 2 was a cultural phenomenon, that pulled in even non gamers w its accessibility and flashy style. With that and potential nostalgia, would likely be picked by some even though it doesnt have a lot of depth or any chance for a competitive community forming around it.
Nah to do this in person is too much effort, gotta flag people down and correct them and explain the rules every time, what a champ! Enjoyed seeing how happy everyone was talking about their favorite fighting game, very wholesome.
It might've been easier if he just had an art board and drew 5 empty squares next to each tier, and printed out the box art of different games. He would've had to pick out the games and you wouldn't get wild picks like SFxT and Cross Tag Battle. But, it definitely would've saved some hassle. i think my favorite part about of this video is seeing the variety of different people in the community. Just started watching FGC content recently it's feels like I'm opening a treasure chest of personalities - it's a blast to see such a diverse crowd all in one place
The way the tier list organized itself was setup so it wasn't an objective way of seeing it... but it DID make a fun way of doing it that was good enough

I agree with the guy who said MK2. Even if it's not as deep as modern games, if you experienced it, it was a social phenomenon that has no equal in the modern era of online battles. To be at the arcade with 20 other guys around the machine doing a fatality that you learned about on usenet was just an experience that no one in the later generations can even understand. Also soul calibur 2 was great for similar reasons, but it also had the depth that MK lacked.
I think out of the older MK games, that was the game. And if you go to an arcade, you're most likely are going to see a MK2 machine before you'll see a 3, Ultimate 3, and heck, the first one. Agree with SC2 as well.
MK2 is very special for me as well, and it's the best MK.. IMO. I always come back to it. Even better now that somebody made a MUGEN of MK2 called *"MK II remix".* They take everything best from the original and enhanced it. It's super awesome. I'm in love with that game and haven't touch any other fighting games for months now. 🙂

Peak fighting, period. FGC says they love SCII *more* than SC on the Dreamcast, the fighting game that was seriously considered for GotY (not fighting game of the year, just GotY, period) when it's immediate competition was VF3, Tekken 3 and SFIII3S, but they always pretend it's a 'lesser' Tekken even though it controls better and is easier to learn despite the characters having *more* moves than Tekken characters (over half the cast of SCVI had more moves than T7 King). It's sad.
that and no mention of SF2 (unless I missed it) is just baffling, those were the defining fighting games of their era Shout outs to the guy who said Breakers Revenge tho
My goat is SF4. It single handedly brought arcades back for the time being and helped with the transition to home consoles immensely. Not to mention, it literally saved EVO. Without that game, EVO wouldn’t be a thing anymore. (HM’s: MVC2, UMVC3 & SF3S)

This was pretty fun. Well done. I have an affinity for Rival Schools but couldn't bring myself to call it GOAT. Unlike older bangers like Soul Cal, MvC2 and 3rd Strike, it doesn't REALLY have the longevity I think to hold up to today's standards, but I have a special place in my heart for that game.
I really like the format of doing a community tier list like this where people can add any stuff and then eventually can just switch places of two games.
This should be a series. Anytime you go to one of these events, hit people up like this. This gives time for more modern games to establish their legacy, more patches and DLCs, more opinions, and flat out for more games to fit on there!

Not only did it look way better and have more moves, levels, and characters in general, but it introduced Kitana, Mileena, and Shao Kahn, which was pretty huge. Expanded the lore a decent bit compared to the first one. I'd agree UMKIII is better in basically every way, but MKII was pretty amazing when it first came out.

My vote for the GOAT is Killer Instinct 2013. I love it because you constantly are using your brain even on defense when in a combo for the combo breaker meta. Instinct mode was also fun and unique per character. There is basically 0 down time in a match and I love it for that.

As true as that is BBTag has a really nice niche. It's a really easy to get into tag team fighter for new players. I got so many people to start playing fighting games in general by playing BBTag with them. Also it has another kind of niche in that there aren't that many modern tag team games that are fun to just pickup, and play with people that are decent at other fighting games, but don't really have a tag team game they are good at. I really like BBTag even though it's got it's issues for sure. @@zaki1ss
I hope developers see this. Fighting game players clearly don't like it if you can pick up a game and play and get wins. They like to learn the game and get rewarded for their work.

True, it is always 98 or 2002 here, but it is also something I’ll never agree with as 02 is basically a great roster (not going into balance) accompanied by some of the worst presentation ever made, with some of the worst looking stages and hud in the series and a weak ost. Was pretty happy with seeing 97 being high ranked for most of the video though.

I'm surprised Killer Instinct wasn't even brought up, either the original 1-2 or the newer version that's out. Is that series not really regarded that well? It was my favorite game when it first came out, I dumped way too many hours into it at the arcade during breaks at work etc. Edit: Also surprised games like Battle Arena Toshinden, Bushido Blade, Virtua Fighter, Fatal Fury, Samurai Showdown (series) weren't at least mentioned, though most of the people asked weren't even born when these games were out.
As a MK fan since I was a kid, it really is true in terms of competitive fighting games. MK will always be just a fun fighting game for me and then as a kid, I always just enjoyed the lore especially when NRS introduced their open world konquest mode in Deception. MK9 was awesome because you saw the return of 2D in the series but the game was highly broken and so was MKX. It’s like people forget how many people hated MKX when it was a thing. My favorite MK is the new one. I think in terms of mechanics, it’s the best MK they’ve released and I know a lot of people will disagree but I’ve been there and watched the game and scene develop for awhile. MK and really NRS games in general have never had longevity been incredibly successful in the competitive scene. They’ve always just done really good with sales because of the casual fan getting the game for nostalgia or flash.
@@jameswebber1951 yeah, well I mean, I’ve been playing MK since the very first one in arcades, too, and the new one is the one that finally completely lost me altogether after 30 years of being a casual MK fan - but it’s always been the redheaded stepchild series of the mainstream FGC competitive scene even at its most active and is basically just a nostalgic guilty pleasure for me as a fighting game. With so many other actually good to great fighting games out right now, I have zero interest in anything NRS related for the time being 🤷🏻♂️
What do you expect? Most of the people making the picks were not even old enough to actually have played it which is part of the reason why so many modern fighters are higher than they should be. I mean that crew around 13:26 pretty much symbolized the average we're going off of here. Even with the OG that were former pros they in large part admit to just sticking to 1 product and are now after 20+ years opening up to other greats.
As expected, few people in this tournament knows what are Virtua Fighter or Dead Or Alive because it seems that almost no American player plays/played these series. Dead Or Alive 2/5LR , Virtua Fighter 5 US/2/3 are basically unknown 3Dfgs in the USA it seems. Do people here know other 3DFGs except the last Tekken games or SC2 ? Dead Or Alive 2 and LR should be near the top. Custom Robo gets an honorable mention or Good for being the best arena fighter while also being the best projectile based fighter at the same time. Powerstone gets put in mid. Shrek Super Slam gets it's own meme tier lol.
VF5US? Nah man, that game was quite doodoo... i'd rather take the other VF5 versions, rather than that. It was the most anti-climatic return ever, and it saddened me. 100% esports focused and zero Single player fun.
Tekken 5 is top tier. Because the boss for the arcade mode would record your inputs and create a perfect counter play to fight you. The longer the fight lasted, the harder it became. You could only win by being better than yourself
That game was fucking massive when it came out in arcades. Bigger than SF2 or the original MK. You definitely "had to be there" and maybe Diaphone is too young, but that game is legendary and the hype for it was stratospheric.

FGC says they love SCII *more* than SC on the Dreamcast, the fighting game that was seriously considered for GotY (not fighting game of the year, just GotY, period) when it's immediate competition was VF3, Tekken 3 and SFIII3S, but they always pretend it's a 'lesser' Tekken even though it controls better and is easier to learn despite the characters having *more* moves than Tekken characters (over half the cast of SCVI had more moves than T7 King). It's sad.

I'm not too involved in this community but maybe it's one of those games that most people enjoy, but few would call their #1 favorite?
My goat is SF4. It single handedly brought arcades back for the time being and helped with the transition to home consoles immensely. Not to mention, it literally saved EVO. Without that game, EVO wouldn’t be a thing anymore. (HM’s: MVC2, UMVC3 & SF3S)

This was pretty fun. Well done. I have an affinity for Rival Schools but couldn't bring myself to call it GOAT. Unlike older bangers like Soul Cal, MvC2 and 3rd Strike, it doesn't REALLY have the longevity I think to hold up to today's standards, but I have a special place in my heart for that game.
I really like the format of doing a community tier list like this where people can add any stuff and then eventually can just switch places of two games.

@@shaynehughes6645 I think MKII gets remembered because it really was an enormous step up for the time. Not only did it look way better and have more moves, levels, and characters in general, but it introduced Kitana, Mileena, and Shao Kahn, which was pretty huge. Expanded the lore a decent bit compared to the first one. I'd agree UMKIII is better in basically every way, but MKII was pretty amazing when it first came out.

If no games from the 90s made this list I would understand. That was not the case though. So it's odd that those games from the 90s made this list but not any SF2 game.

My vote for the GOAT is Killer Instinct 2013. I love it because you constantly are using your brain even on defense when in a combo for the combo breaker meta. Instinct mode was also fun and unique per character. There is basically 0 down time in a match and I love it for that.

As true as that is BBTag has a really nice niche. It's a really easy to get into tag team fighter for new players. I got so many people to start playing fighting games in general by playing BBTag with them. Also it has another kind of niche in that there aren't that many modern tag team games that are fun to just pickup, and play with people that are decent at other fighting games, but don't really have a tag team game they are good at. I really like BBTag even though it's got it's issues for sure. @@zaki1ss

True, it is always 98 or 2002 here, but it is also something I’ll never agree with as 02 is basically a great roster (not going into balance) accompanied by some of the worst presentation ever made, with some of the worst looking stages and hud in the series and a weak ost.

It was my favorite game when it first came out, I dumped way too many hours into it at the arcade during breaks at work etc.
Edit: Also surprised games like Battle Arena Toshinden, Bushido Blade, Virtua Fighter, Fatal Fury, Samurai Showdown (series) weren't at least mentioned, though most of the people asked weren't even born when these games were out.

As a MK fan since I was a kid, it really is true in terms of competitive fighting games. MK will always be just a fun fighting game for me and then as a kid, I always just enjoyed the lore especially when NRS introduced their open world konquest mode in Deception.
MK9 was awesome because you saw the return of 2D in the series but the game was highly broken and so was MKX. It’s like people forget how many people hated MKX when it was a thing.
My favorite MK is the new one. I think in terms of mechanics, it’s the best MK they’ve released and I know a lot of people will disagree but I’ve been there and watched the game and scene develop for awhile. MK and really NRS games in general have never had longevity been incredibly successful in the competitive scene. They’ve always just done really good with sales because of the casual fan getting the game for nostalgia or flash.
@@jameswebber1951 yeah, well I mean, I’ve been playing MK since the very first one in arcades, too, and the new one is the one that finally completely lost me altogether after 30 years of being a casual MK fan - but it’s always been the redheaded stepchild series of the mainstream FGC competitive scene even at its most active and is basically just a nostalgic guilty pleasure for me as a fighting game. With so many other actually good to great fighting games out right now, I have zero interest in anything NRS related for the time being 🤷🏻♂️

What do you expect? Most of the people making the picks were not even old enough to actually have played it which is part of the reason why so many modern fighters are higher than they should be. I mean that crew around 13:26 pretty much symbolized the average we're going off of here. Even with the OG that were former pros they in large part admit to just sticking to 1 product and are now after 20+ years opening up to other greats.
As expected, few people in this tournament knows what are Virtua Fighter or Dead Or Alive because it seems that almost no American player plays/played these series. Dead Or Alive 2/5LR , Virtua Fighter 5 US/2/3 are basically unknown 3Dfgs in the USA it seems. Do people here know other 3DFGs except the last Tekken games or SC2 ? That's just a question, no offense, but I'm surprised. And even regarding Tekken, where'sTekken 3 ? XD

Because the boss for the arcade mode would record your inputs and create a perfect counter play to fight you. The longer the fight lasted, the harder it became. You could only win by being better than yourself
