    This guy makes it look a lot easier than it was for me. I guess it's easier if you do as maintenance in stead of waiting for your check valve to start leaking. It was not easy for me because my O-rings were practically disintegrated so it was a lot tougher to get the old rings out. I eventually got it done, thanks.

    Not to knock your video but I have done lots of these and a 15 year old o-ring that has failed is hard as a rock and can't be removed that easily. I always resort to dental picks removing the old o-rings piece by little piece. You must be using new o-rings for demo purposes. Installers must make sure that all pieces of the old o-rings are removed, even the smallest fragment will prevent the new o-rings from inserting properly. The o-ring insertion tool works flawlessly, the extraction tool not so much. This job can be a pain but its still a hell of a sight easier then replacing the check valve assembly.

    The kit worked great for the upper ring, spring and check valve. The bottom ring was not so easy, following the video I cut the o ring on my first try, luckily I bought two set so I had another bottom o ring. The second time I just used the plunger to set the o ring, but had to use a small wire to pull a small part of the o ring into the groove, it kept getting pushed above the seat area, wasn't hard to do and once down in the groove, worked great, no leakes.

I recommend doing this, which may be the cause of fuel still leaking by after the final connection.

      I think you don't but push the little button in on the check valve to see if gas flows out without stopping. I believe the pump has to pump fuel out. The check valve only releases the pressure when you push the button. You have to drain it to remove the whole thing from the tank and replace the hose. That's what I believe about the check valve.

    Decided to buy a new check valve today from Harley, it was 52 dollars and with the new seal for top of tank it came to 83 dollars, decided to change the fuel filter while I had it out and it was 88 dollars, the guy at Harley said be very careful getting the system out, you bend something and it's going to cost 480 for a new arm plus all the other seals. I pulled it out and also found the mesh filter for the fuel pump was falling apart and can't be replaced you must buy a fuel pump 246 dollars. So with my new check valve, fuel pump, filter and tank seal with new screws I'm in it for about 500 bucks doing it myself, (not a mechanic, RUclips everything)
    If bike is newer, I would absolutely buy this tool but at the recommended 25000 mile fuel filter change I would go the total replacement because had I just done the o ring I was headed for a fuel system plug and tow with my luck somewhere in the mountains where I love to ride. I will possibly add this tool to my arsenal at some point .

      Hi Mark, this is Mike from FuelTool. I am available at anytime to help you through any problem you may have. My cell is 201-956-2350. The reason the lower o-ring pulled out was due to small fragments of the old o-ring that still remain in the o-ring groove. This prevented the new o-ring from seating properly in its groove. If you take a small pick, place it into the groove and spin it around you will see additional pieces fall out. When these stop the groove is ready for the new o-ring. If you would like I will be happy to forward additional o-rings at no charge. Let e know.

    He did not insert the tool in all the way like the instructions say; which leads me to believe he just put the o-rings in there loosely as a demo of what to do. Also assuming the gas tank was empty because when I did mine, it dumped 5 gallons of gas all over my garage floor. At that point, I just removed the entire check valve assembly from the tank to make the rebuild easier. The tool was unsuccessful at removing the 1st o-ring completely and the WD-40 I sprayed in there at the beginning of my process just left the remaining bit to just rotate in it's seat with no way to remove it. The paper clip wouldn't do the trick. Wasted $ on the tool, wasted time, wasted gas, funkified my garage, ruined my shoes. This should have been a recall in my opinion. My FLHR has less than 10k miles on it. I'm seeing complete check-valves for sale online for around $34. Lesson learned.

    how do you get the o-ring out of the gas line (male part).

    • @M3231-s3v
      @M3231-s3v 5 лет назад +2

      ok, in follow up, and from experience now, if anyone is reading this, it is possible to pull the rings out using a dental pic. not too ard BUT its much easier to pull the unit out of the gas tank, which means draining your tank first but at least you can turn the check valve over and see what the fuck you are doing rather than trying to work upside down with a flashlight and a mirror. After replacing the rings, they held for a day then started to leak again so I ended up buying a new check valve, not too expensive but wish I would have done this in the first place. Buy a check valve, drain your tank. You have to remove the gas lines from the pump... take your console off, open the gas tank inspection plate, remove the gas lines from the pump. Unscrew your old check valve, screw in your new check valve. hook your gas lines back up, close the inspection plate, put you councol back on, put gas back in, go for a ride.

    Bought the tool for $100. The ORings with any age shred when you use it. I replaced the Check Valve, Regulator, fuel filter for $70. Bike wouldn't start once all the ORings were replaced. Unfortuately, the shredded ORing has traveled down into the fuel Injectors and bike didn't start. It takes 15 minutes to replace the parts using Harley original parts. I'm 6 hours and the bike still doesn't start.

    An uneeded expensive gimmick that is NOT required to do the job, Order MC300 and use a motorcycyle lift so its easier to access. A seal pick and manual dexterity are all that is needed.

    This tool must suck since nobody carrys it , just my opinion i had it happen just this week did not want to work on my head easy to pull tank place on padded work table upside down use a 41x10x2 metric oring was done in way less time than trying to do it on the bike.... Big tip make sure you have all of the old oring out even a tiny piece will stop the new one from sliding in again took 15 mins total pulling tank and doing it with tank upside down....

    interesting video.. i think harley wants about $50 bucks for a new ck valve ass'y.. if you haven't ck'd the fuel hose inside the tank for a long time, i would recommend replacing the complete ck valve & it comes with the new fuel hose.. i have had these hose's develope pin hole leaks & then it sucks air & you are stranded..

    spending over $100 to replace two 3 cent o-rings is CRAZY! I would understand if you were a shop and had to do these repairs all the time but not likely. A shop will just replace the part and charge parts and labor according to rate.
    draining and removing a tank is not all that hard to replace a NEW part for half the price.
    Or for under $10 you can buy a crapload of both o-rings and with a $10 pick set you can do the work but it will take you slightly longer then this tool set allows. but again you don't have to drain the tank and the total job would take less than 30 minutes for a complete novice.

    • @5280streetdogs
      @5280streetdogs 9 лет назад

      Not really, my roadglide needed this and a mechanic will charge 3 hours labor plus parts, new screws and seal to pull line and fuel pump out of top of tank, then replace complete line with valve and while open might as well replace fuel filter, about 450-500 bucks at Harley. They will NOT replace just the o rings call and check! I did and it's way cheaper for this do it yourself try.

    • @IvIountainman
      @IvIountainman 9 лет назад +1

      I work at Harley manufacturing plant in York PA. You can buy a check valve screws and seal and do this replacement yourself including parts for about $45 and under an hour.

    You can buy a new genuine H-D check valve assembly for 50 bucks. No special tools required. But the rebuild kit that includes the two viton (important) o-rings, stainless spring and plated valve is worth the 13 bucks. Just use caution when using o-ring picks to not damage the glands. Most importantly, use viton o-rings (normally dark orange in color), not EPDM or Buna-N materials. If you do you will have a greater leak than you do now. The custom tool kit is a good deal if you work on bikes for a living, but, once or twice in a life time is not economically sound.

      I recommend fuel tech. You do not need to purchase the extra tools they offer. you can use standard o ring picks. I experienced issues at first with the company,, but, the owner called me personally and got all the parts to me that I needed for the repair on my 03 glide. chk them out and they will take care of your chk valve parts no problem.

    Just tried it out today with a valve out of the tank and it FAILED to get any o ring out and...What piece of junk! This video is rigged! No way it works that way....The o rings that need replacing are hard and the tool will not grab it to pull it out. I think it will work on o rings that are soft but then they don't have to be replaced.

      I would pull the fuel pump out and disconnect the fuel line from the pump that goes to the valve and remove it and replace it with a new one. You may find you need more like a filter and a tank cleaning and new fuel hoses. All depends on what the tank looks like inside. My hoses were brittle and were replaced. Being a 01 you are going to need some new parts to do it right.

      is not that simple. At the other end is a rugged plastic tube that is connected to the fuel pump. You have to disconnect this tube from the fuel pump in order to be able to twist the check valve or you will twist the tube and possible brake it.
