    I just watched your video about 4 hours ago, then drove into town to the shop where I'm getting started on my 2003 Heritage, and had no issues removing my tank, thanks to you. I will add, a small shortcut I used from your method was to use just one hose clamp on the crossover hose, then after draining the side I removed the hose from first, I pulled the hose with the clamp on it back out the other side and stuck it in the long neck of my gas can, then simply undid the clamp to let that side drain. My gas can was a Plastic 2 1/2 Gallon can with the long flexible plastic pour spout, and that 5/16" hose fit in it perfectly, including length wise, due to the height of the jug and the length of the pour spout. I will say if your tank is over half full you will either need a bigger gas can or you'll have to empty it before completely emptying your gas tank. Thanks again for the great how to video, I look forward to watching your others...

    I invested in a transfer pump that works off of 12V. I installed a 12V cigarette plug on my adventure bike incase I need to reuse someone that ran out of gas. I use it also to drain all my unleaded gas from my 97 Yamaha Royal Star 1300 in prep for winter storage. I fill the tank with treated leaded gasoline and then run the carbs out with petcock in closed position with engine running until it cuts out. Bike always starts without a problem in the Spring. I have the same clamps and they work well. Another very good video.

    Thanks for your instructional video. I just got thru rebuilding my fuel check valve. It was NOT fun since I did not totally remove the tank, just unbolted it, propped it up and used a mirror to see inside the coupling/quick disconnect where the check valve goes. After watching many videos using the process of elimination for the cheesy/risky steps to damage further components/parts. Without the $50.00 fuel tools kit, I bought the rebuild kit consisting of the spring, valve and 2 O’ rings supplied in the package. I used dental picks and a 9/32 deep well socket, small mirror and flashlight for the job. I spent a careful amount of time since I’m limited where to work on this bike and careful not to lose any parts on the ground(mainly the new spring). As much as I didn’t want to lose the “old”spring even though I probably wasn’t going to reuse it, it fell and landed somewhere I can’t find it. So with that being said, little parts and big fumbly fingers, I took extra care and time to make sure my new spring didn’t get lost. Anyway once I got the spring, check valve and 1st O ring in place. I made sure I seated it in the groove best I could see with the socket😅 or end of a blunt nail head/Allen wrench to avoid damaging the o ring during seating. The second O ring that sits below the valve took a bit of working with but going with what I see in the mirror up into the coupling, it is properly seated in its groove just below the check valve. Once done I reinstalled everything(tank, wiring, fuel line etc. filled the tank with just enough gas to crank it without refilling too much until confirmation of the job was a success. I turned on the ignition to check for leaks however still seeing a steady drip out of the coupler. I am stumped since I double checked the coupler to make sure the rings are seated correctly but my big question and frustration now after ALL that time and effort is…WHY is it “still” leaking? Is there someone I’m missing or another issue lying in the fuel line male fitting that goes up into the coupler, could that be faulty or worn out? Could it be the O rings not the proper size and not sealing correctly? I’m ready to ride but with gas leaking, it’s not good and sure not taking the chance to even starting the bike. Any suggestions?

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  2 года назад +1

      @@henrytran3642 If you idnt change your air cleaner to an open air cleaner then I wouldn't worry about it. You didn't change the fuel to air mix...just changing the slip on will not effect anything. If you change the air cleaner to open style (more air in) and the header (cats removed, more air out) then you need to tune. The slip on will only change the sound and give you slightly better air flow but not enough to need a tune as its still restricted by the air cleaner and stock headers.

    I’ll add. I’ve never taken the tank off because of that damn crossover line AND the fuel line coupling. Mine was always stuck. Didn’t want to force it so never went the distance. Made changing my wires a pain in the ass (I have a RK and the coil sits under the tank). For those with a FI older bike- shoot some WD40 on the coupling. 30 min later a wiggle with a flat head and it came out.

    Hello Steve, my Nephew is having troubles with the headlight on his Soft Tail. I sent him your video and he said it was very helpful. I believe his Soft Tail is a 2016, and the cross over line has a quick disconnect in it which is great! His complaint is when he turns the handlebars the light goes out. I helped him out with texts and phone conversations. He got the tank off and pulled the headlight. So I mentioned to him to get the wiring together enough to light the headlight and move the harness around until the light goes out. He didn’t want to start dissecting the harness which is understandable. If you have any other advice please let me know. Thank you for sharing, and I did subscribe. Thanks again.

    Great video. But my fuel on my Softail EFI the chrome button thing you push up on to release the hose where does the hose on the inside go to I unbolted the nut and pulled on the hose and the inside hose came down to far now I can't get my bike to fire up.

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  20 дней назад

      Hey Mark....Its connected to the side of your fuel regulator, please look at this image I found on google and you will see the quick release valve you are talking about and follow it to the other end where it is attached to the regulator...Youll see there are two pinch points to release the hose so if it came off, you more than likely broke the hose. They are very brittle from setting in fuel and its easily broken. You have to buy the whole fuel line and quick connect, you cannot buy just the fuel line because the line is pressed on the fitting. On another video I did on this bike I talked about this because mine broke too..it happens. DO NOT buy a knock off fuel like like I did from revzilla....it will leak...just buy the one from HD and replace it. Here is the image mototech271.com/cdn/shop/files/ff1f306b-54fa-40af-9106-342162622abe_1800x.jpg?v=1692794837 I hope this helps man.. need anything else please let me know. • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  9 месяцев назад

      sorry for the late reply...some of these slipped by me...the best way to get it all out is to waste a little gas ...since you have the tank off...just water down the old fuel with some new fuel, swish it around and keep dumping it out...just small bits at a time...even if there is a little left after you fill the tank it will dilute it so much it wont matter..youll be good.

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  2 года назад +1

      I guess that it probably could be but you can replace that hose very easily from any tractor supply store or anyone that carries fuel line..just buy 1 foot of line and cut it down to size ...it should cost a couple of bucks..there is not special about the fuel line..it is just standard and you will need the size of your hose. You could take it off and take it with you to the store and compare it. Then you will know for sure if it is clogged and very easily change it while you have it off.

    @4:40 now that I have disconnected that and the fuel won't stop pissing out of the self closing valve, how do I fix this? I tried plugging the hose back in and disconnected it a ton of times and it just won't quit, and yes the male connector appears to be seated correctly each time. Then I started to remove that valve from the tank to see if there was debris or something inside there, but now I can feel that it's attached to a hose or something inside the tank...and I'm reluctant to remove it completely in case I screw it up further than it's screwed up.
