Funny these days as we have the Takumi Sen 8 and now Streakfly that are undoubtedly more cushioned than the Adios 1 I used for all my road races from mile to marathon up until 5 years ago or indeed any other "racing flat" of the time. Now we all tend to say we can't race much more than about 5K in shoes unless we have at least 40mm of stack :) Conversely we can't race 5K in a shoe that has too much stack. Reality is of course the "marathon" ones do just fine for any distance and these new 5K/10K racers well am still to see in my own testing that they are actually "better" even for those distances for me.
Totally agree Tim,the marketing BS of these companies certainly seems to have lured in the fanboys.....I like Kofuzis channel a lot but this comparison seems needless to me.
Agree. Have done 2h long run in Takumi and feels great and much more stable than Adios Pro 2. I am Considering it over the Adios Pro 2 for my marathon next week.
I ran the Zurich marathon in the takumi. Just short of 3h. As my foot was hurting from my previous long run in the adios pro 2. The takumi are a fantastic shoe for all paces and distances but won't waste them on easy runs. Hoka clifton for that
I just bought the TS8 on sale (100USD) and i'm going to race with them in my first half marathon 2 weeks from now and my first marathon in september. I was worried about how this TS8 "5k-10k" shoe will perform in this bigger distance events. Where i live here in latin america there's no so much variety in running shoes and if there is it's a bit expensive. So that's why i'm going to race with TS8. ill keep you updated guys!
@@hfurbano I have a narrow feet and the Takumi Sen 8 feels relatively narrow to me but perhaps a bit more in the toebox than some previous adidas shoes.
I recently bought the adios pro 2 over the Sen 8 because the adios pro 2 were on sale and I got them cheaper than the Sen 8. I like them. I ran a quick 5k for my level of running
Thank you for your review. The Sen 8 is so flexible and smooth at higher paces that it may be the best road speed work shoe I’ve ever tried. The Pro 2 is a very solid choice for 15 Miles-plus but not nearly as fun as, say, the VaporFly or ASICS MetaSpeed Sky. If I had it to do over again, I would have sent back the Pro 2 and bought a second pair of the Sen 8s.
The question I want answering is, Adidas are saying this is a 5/10k shoe while this is a half/full marathon shoe with no reference to pace or weight of runner. I can't believe either of these shoes are going feel/perform the same for a 200lb size 10 wearer against a 140lb runner in the same size 10.
Agreed with your thought This is kind of personal choices. For me, about 78kg 173cm , I would prefer Pro 2 for my Threshold training with better support and cushion. Thinking about to just use my Sen for recovery run or 8km base training but for that price, it would be a waste
Just went out for a 10 mile Yasso 800 run at 10K pace in the Takumi’s. Very impressed with the performance and response even at slower recovery paces. The Takumi’s are very capable of running a half marathon and beyond for those that like a lower stack shoe for your racers.
So glad you made this video. I have the Takumi Sens coming via Runningwarehouse this week for the Gasparilla 8k next Sunday. I also got under 17 min in the 5k twice in the Pro 2s in the past few weeks. First time under 17 min in 8-9 years! I couldn't believe how great a shoe the Pro 2s are and even more excited about the Takumi Sen 8.
It would be interesting to do a Adidas/ Nike challenge pairing the pro 2 with the Vaporfly and the T8 with the streakfly to see how the foams, plates and designs match up.
vaporfly sweeps the pro 2 any day. the TS8 and the streakfly even though marketed very similarly i feel like have different uses. i would take the TS8 for a race over the streakfly any day but for workouts the streakfly works amazing.
Picked up a pair of the Takumi Sen 8 yesterday. Can you believe Running Warehouse already has them on clearance for only $139?! They’ve only been out for about 5 months. It’s such a deal, I couldn’t pass them up. These will be my 10K race day shoes In July.
The shoes are two completely different use types as mentioned here. The adios pro 2 comes through in later miles at the marathon level. The takumi seems to be a little more of a shorter distance racer. Conversely I could not do 5ks in thae adios pro 2 because there is simply too much stack height and too much cushion. I use the adios 6 for that. Great review as always. 👍
great review 👏👏👏 but for the track I would not use neither the Takumi nor the Adios Pro2, too much foam for me, I prefer a lower stack height shoe like the RC3. For the Takumi I will try the 5k/10k/21k and then I will compare with the Adios pro 2 trainings I ran for the same distances
Brillant video ko! Loved the comparison and you going with your preference. Just did a trail half with the Boston 9s and it did brilliantly on the buffed dry trails. Would have been interesting to do this with the energy rods too 😁
Anyone else experiencing pains in midfoot when running in the Adios Pro 2? I am not sure if it's the midsole stack height or the energy rods but something is not right with that shoe!
"energy rods"....do you at any time feel they are t here poking your feet. Or do you only feel them "working" ? Also, do you know if the rods over time end up poking through the midsole and into the shoe....then your feet? Or is there something in the midsole that keeps the rods THERE for the life of the shoe? Even when the foam looses it's responsiveness and there's no more tread on the outsole?
For some reason , Adidas is asking pretty much the same price for both shoes in my country. So I guess it would be better to just go with the Adios Pro 2 that could be used from 5km up to ultra marathons ?
Great comparison, as a suggestion, it would be nice for you to mention what pace you are talking about when you mention threshold pace, marathon pace, or even marathon pace (I know I can get the threshold pace used for this test from the second chapter). I know it doesn't 100% translate, but for many people their half-marathon pace is probably closer to your 5k pace, and having those numbers might help put it into perspective.
I am just curious it's a little bit unrelated to the shoes. I was wondering do you run the entire 13 miles at 6 mins per mile without taking a break? I am amazed how people can run such long distances like it's no big deal!
Awesome comparison Mike. I am inclined to agree with you that of the two the Adios Pro 2 etched out the Takumi Sen 8. To add to your points - the Pro 2 just offers more versatility than the Takumi Sen. To have both of these shoes in your rotation isn't that viable considering how tight the price gap is between the two.
As some others have noted, shoes may behave differently for someone bigger/heavier. Obviously you can't change your body for reviews, but do you have another RUclipsr or shoe reviewer you'd recommend for that 6' / 200lbs range runner?
