  • My coach had set me a session of 8 mins at 10K pace followed after 3 mins rest by 15 x 400m, 60 secs at least 5K pace.
    To test my new acquired adidas Adizero Takumi Sen 9 and adias Adizero Adios 8, I did the 8 min effort and the 1st 7 400s in the Sen 9 and then switched over the Adios 8 for the remaining 8 400s. So in this video I discuss how it went and how each shoe felt.

    I'm definitely getting an Adios 8 for me for daily training. The new strategies of designing over-cushioned everyday shoes with 40mm+ stack causes instabilities in the gate of non-elite runners, which long-term causes, Plantar, Achillis and Anterior Tibialis issues.

      I think a shoe like the Adios 8 offers something different these days and indeed may well help to reduce the increasing reliance of high stack soft shoes as you say. I would tend to only use a shoe like the Adios 8 for faster days and not "daily" however as I worry that a shoe likes the Adios 8 just wants to me go faster when that is not always what I should be doing some days.

      Nothing like a bit of goal pace to test race shoes :) Just a regret it is not as fast as I would like these days. Funny as talking to camera between reps on a solo session helps to sort of dull the pain. Definite trail potential in the Adios 8 - worked well on a cricket pitch in summer and guess what - no mud on the heels :) Result !

      @@BenNotley yeah saves the cleaning job for one’s review :) You might think have never worn them. Bit late by the time had finished up for a drink. I think they were still open but nobody then outside. I did pop in last time was here. One of my favourite Shoeoff locations as can park right by the start of a bigger loop and this contrived small 400m sort of dash round the green. Cricket pitch good for filming too and pseudo trail runs! Zero phone reception though which seems odd in this day and age. Dunsfold now has a fair few new houses too. Done a bit of off road round here but most places are now nettle fests and us RUclipsrs need to find places for solid goal pace.

    I'm pleased with this comparison! I love the Adios 6, I've got two of it, but I was thinking about getting a Takumi. But when I heard of the Adios 8, I decided to wait and see... And now you gave me the answer I wished to know. Takumi might be the better one because of its technology, but for us, amateurs, it doesn't work that good being so narrow and unstable. I think the netx Takumi is going to be wider and with full rods like the Pro 3. If the Takumi 10 comes like that, then I think it would be really the best. Thank you for the review!

    • @TimGrose
      @TimGrose  Год назад +1

      Thanks! Having a long narrow foot the Takumi Sen 9 fits me well but performance wise, as you saw, was hard to see or indeed feel any obvious benefit over the somewhat cheaper Adios 8. As you say the Adios 8 does feel a bit more stable and I also have found it a lot better on firm trails so think it is also a bit more versatile. At least the TS9 does offer something rather different to the AP3. There have been times with adidas when most of their adizero shoes were very similar. These two sort of fill similar use cases but the ride is different on foot so good to have the options.

    Thanks, great video! Now we just need a Adios with full LSP midsole. Liked my Sen8 but also found it uncomfortable and unstable for warm ups or off intervals.
    Maybe be an idea for future shoe offs. Measure the shoe efficiency by running on the treadmill for a set pace and measure power using Stryd or wrist based power. The inverse power should be the more efficient shoe (at least for you as a person)

    • @TimGrose
      @TimGrose  Год назад

      Thanks! Guess an Adios with a Lightstrike Pro midsole becomes even more like a Takumi Sen 8 or 9 ! I have largely given up with power in shoeoffs as never really found there was any meaningful difference between shoes and any difference was often "false" by say Air Power differences probably caused by variances in Stryd placement location. Unlike a bike power meter it is not measuring power directly. As such, and on a treadmill especially, I found that the correlation between pace and power was almost perfect.

    I’m a believer of the TS. My 5K time keeps going down and these are the shoes that work for me on race day. I still use the 8 with the same midsole as the 9. Bought a second pair on discount. Am going to try and do a video on all my adidas shoes. Having used them all a bit more now then I would say the Takumi Sen 9 is the best bet for 5K races if you don't like the higher stacked shoes like the Endorphin Pro 3 or Adios Pro 2/3 or indeed the Vaporfly 3 which I have used for 2 5Ks now. I don't think the Sen 9 are any "faster" over 5K than the "marathon" shoes though but if you can't get on with them. Adios 8 is a good budget option for faster training and I find it better than the Sen 9 for off road.

    Lightstrike Pro gets softer as you run and gets better. So, you will probably need some miles with it. The rods in this shoe are fiberglass or plastic. Definitely not carbon fiber or carbon infused.

      I've done about 150 miles now in the Adios Pro 3 and can't really say it has changed much. Certainly notice a slightly softer feel in that one compared to these two. Nearly at 50 miles in the Adios 8 now but need more time in the Sen 9 to see how it changes.

    Good for keeping it hoenst and not giving into the Takumi Sen hype. I really like that shoe but you bring up an interesting point of use case. Would I actually race in the shoe? Well I would, if there weren' t 2-3 Nike shoes I would pick over it. So it' s sort of reserved for intervals only. Even for steady running, it' s really a bit too stiff. Adios 8 seems like it can do a bit more, pretty much everything except for maybe the slowest recovery plods.

    • @TimGrose
      @TimGrose  Год назад +1

      Yeah if you recall I did several shoeoffs with the Sen 8 vs PrimeX, AP2 and VF2 and it was "at best" not much in it even for shortish fastish efforts and not certainly not plods. I did ponder using it "out of the box" for my 5K race last week but played safe and went back to the VF1. Would be good to try it in a low key race but I am the sort of runner that only likes to try my best in races and not plod round as it were. As a workout shoe then certainly worked well enough here but then so did the Adios 8 £50 cheaper - well at least what I could get right now in my largely elusive UK 13.5.

Was in fairly hilly terrain terrain and the uphill nits felt a bit of a slog. Maybe need to try on fresher legs as maybe I am using it for the wrong use case but in the days when I only wore Adios or Boston would have been Boston every time for such runs. After all never felt the need to put on my race shoes for a plod !

  • @SagasuRunning
    @SagasuRunning Год назад +2

    I fully agree, the TS9 is a fast shoe and a vry good shoe...but it is very much a niche shoe. If you have the form and strength to get the most out of it then it is the optimal 5/10k racer... but for most people a Vaporfly is going to be as fast or faster given it is more user friendly.
    As for the Adios 8, you get 90% of what you get in the TS9, but for less money and in a shoe that it good for easy running and interval workouts. Something the TS9 is not great for. Also, from a training effect you likely are going to get more out of the Adios 8 due to the more natural flex and the need not depend on the modern geometry and carbon (infused) rods rolling you forward.
    Both great shoes, no doubt. The Adios 8 is just a little better (and more versatile) overall.

BTW have you got the Boston 12 as well as been a bit disappointed with that one but I wonder in a more “normal” size whether it would feel better. I guess for me the question is how much faster is the new adios 8 compared to the adios 6/7. For me its more like the adios can do 80% of what the takumi does. And if the new 8 approaches 90%, well that 10% in a 10k race for the takumi is significant. My adios pro 2 gives me that over my old marathon shoes choices. Im sure you give the nodd to the vaporflys over anything els to get that 5 to 10 % advantage. So yeah, takumi sen all the way for me.

      Yeah as you saw here both “work” for 400m reps at 5K pace AC’s perhaps a bit under. I do feel the Adios 8 offers more options - they worked well on a steady HM training run on Sunday and felt a lot better on some dry trail sections than the Sen 9 does which I feel is only really happy going for it. I suspect the Sen 9 will feel very similar to the 8 but do feel bit more iteration in the Adios 6 to 8 - significantly lighter and now a bit softer but not as soft as say a Streakfly. As for the race only real way of knowing is it to try. I am much more a Vaporfly than Alphafly fan so in fact haven’t raced in the AF or the Sen. I pondered using the Sen 9 for my 5K last week but with races often you use what you are used to. I do find now increasingly it has gone back to preference as all these shoes work pretty well now.
