  • I have tried 2 different aftermarket companies for valve guide seals. Both fail fairly soon after installation. In this video, I am replacing them with OEM parts using an installation tool from Hemitools.com. Note: as it turns out, I was not using the tool correctly. At one point in the video, I lament having to repeatedly install and remove the tool. This isn't necessary. All I had to do is thread the 14mm nut out a little further, and swing the pressing arm out of the way.

    Thank you! That’s a good trick with the rope, and I appreciate you making sure we could clearly see.

    I had the exact same issue with my aftermarket valve seals.

      The truck just started doing it again just last week. OEM seals. Frustrating!

      @@wlhequipment1730 oh really?? How long did the OEM seals last? My heads are sitting on the bench and I just ordered the OEM seals. These engines are complete junk... I just spent a small fortune replacing the cam and all the lifters thanks to the HEMI tick.

      @@glassglowz I don’t they’re complete junk, but that’s just opinion. I’m letting the damn thing tick, I don’t care. OEM seals lasted about a year, maybe 15K miles? Not entirely sure what I’m going to do next. Maybe put a little RTV or something under them? Not too excited about that option.

      @@wlhequipment1730if you see this ,what causes them to start leaking again that early,I’m thinking oil pressure sensor in my ‘12 300c is pushing more or reading different causing high pressure

      @@LingoENT It’s a good thought, but those seals aren’t under any oil pressure, other than atmospheric.

    Hi, great detailed video, i think im having same issue on my 11 jgc hemi. Notice im loosing alot of oil lately, puff of smoke when idling for a while.... Take off then see smoke .... My question to add to this is, would it make like clattering noise from time to time when pressing gas? I appreciate any info

      Thanks! Let me start by saying I’m not a Hemi expert by any measure. The clattering noise when you hit the gas could be several things; rod knock, piston slap, or more likely in light of your other symptoms, pinging or detonation. Your oil burning suggests rings not valve stems, in my opinion. That all jives to me. I’d start with a compression test and then a leak down. I’m thinking you’ll see some low numbers.

      Ty i was wondering how to start attacking it. The shops out here they automatically want to change engine. Without giving me any full details . Compression test it is ty man i really do appreciate the information.

    What companies did you try before the OEM? I am replacing seals this weekend and purchased the Comp Cams 531-16 after hearing that the Fel-Pro are garbage.

      It was definitely Fel-Pro was one, and the other might have been Victor Reinz? Not exactly sure. OEM still running right though. Cheap insurance IMO.

    I didn't notice in the video but did you lube the seals before installing them?

      No I did not, I thought dry was best. I even considered some form of adhesive, but decided against that.

      I haven't had any problems since I went OEM. That was about 2 years ago, and it's still doing just fine. Most or all must still be holding.

    Did u have a bad misfire wat was your signs it was bad valve seals instead of piston rings

    • @wlhequipment1730
      @wlhequipment1730  8 месяцев назад +1

      No misfire. The signs that it's a valve and not a ring is a combination of a few things. The absence of a misfire and just a puff of smoke on startup without significant oil burn while driving are the signs the problem is valves.

    im no expert, but i thought the hemi 5.7 seals look like a hat and is held down by the valve spring ???

    • @wlhequipment1730
      @wlhequipment1730  2 года назад +2

      Those are called "top hat" seals, and yes are held in place by the spring. I was HOPING I could get that kind, but apparently for this engine, that's not the case. Bummer.
