What a fun experiment. It might be easier to get a controlled placement if you took shavings from a sharpener or pieces shaved off with a blade or veggie parer. Then you could set them as you like before heat swirling. Cannot wait to see neon colors.
Used to do this decades ago with epoxy. Never used it with UV. But did batik artwork too with crayon shavings which do work better I find. Gives quicker melting. Use a lighter though and not a torch type. Love the crook neck lighters. Those are great for adjusting exactly where you want the flame. 🥰
@@2degucitas left it melted onto the material as it was framed and didn’t sag. And I used foils over the melted crayons so a mock batik. Came out quite nice and more textured. But I did boil one to remove the wax and it came out nice too. Just a pain to mount that one. Took a couple people to do it right and tight. I liked both though.
Very pretty! I have TONS of crayons, both pieces and grated crayons. I sharpened the crayons and them chopped them up to pieces and I can’t wait to try this…. Thanks Daniel! Your experiments are THE BEST!
Very neat! I also got impatient this weekend and used a torch on 2 of my molds 🤦🏼♀️ Ruined both of them. One was a large clock and the other is the exact same mold you are using. UUGG
@@daniel..cooper Yes, I most certainly need to buy a long neck lighter. (Preferably one you can bend) I tried a new resin and the air bubbles were horrible! My regular lighter kept burning me and was just not doing the job so out came the torch. Ohhh I was so upset with myself. The clock turned out beautifully though! Myrtle Beach sand and shells were brought to me to make an ocean clock. Still sux I have to buy 2 new molds though. 👎🏼 (note…. Ive secretly been using a torch for a while now) 🤫
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this technique, Dan! As much as you use LR UV resin (& nearly everything else!), I am staggered that LR *hasn't* sent you one of those cool double lamps! I mean...how did they miss you?!? P.S. If you want small bits of crayon, use a cheese grater! 😁
They are pretty. I like how the heat melted it the second time. I know other people have done this with two part with varying results. I wonder if you waited until it started to get warm and thick if it will do this same type of lacing. Let me suggest painting the inside of the mold with resin and curing that, then doing as before. That what you can be sure the underside is cured and you can easily flip it to make sure it cured all the way through.
Thank you 😊 The resin would seperate on the silicone if I try painting a shell though 😔 Have tried that before, it's doable in lots of small amounts I suppose but would take a long time.
@@daniel..cooper you are right. Ah but what about thick resin? It doesn’t shrink as much. Yes I think thick resin is second coming of craft. It will probably cure my sciatica 😆
Daniel, you probably already know this, but you can put crayons in a glue gun to melt them vs a torch. Clever idea, you never cease to amaze me with your ideas.❤
Hi Daniel, these are so effective and look great! I've got so much stuff in my studio, but I know full well what I don't have, is crayons! I will get some and have a try! ...oh random thought, I do have some very old oil pastels...hmmm....🤔🤔🤔when I get 5 I'll give those a go. Thanks!
I tried this but I shaved the crayons (neon colors pretty disappointed 8 pk with 3 oranges no purples 😢) then I sprinkled the shavings on top heated it up real quick and mixed .
I’d love to try this like you said with neon or pastel colors with black back ground I bet it would be stunning I think I’ll try it and see IF I can do it I’ll post on Facebook page👍👍🤗
Also Daniel, what's going on with Let's Resin? I've an Amaz sub I haven't had for a month as out of stock, everything is oos on there pretty much. The website is down. USA one not shipping to UK. I like their uv the best. Seems so many resin brands have vanished the last year. Any communication from them as to when they're allowing orders again?
Have you heard of Faber Castell gelatos? They're like the grown up version of art crayon. I reckon they would be ace with this technique. I've got tons of them and you only need the smallest amount for epic colour. Will report back!
Very cool effect.. i wonder if you would heat uv resin and add the wax and then pour it in shampoo or what ever lol and cure would that work do you reckon Daniel? If there was a way to heat the uv to keep the wax runny and see what effects you could make as you are pouring it 😅
That's insane! Who knew crayon could work in resin? Lol. Now how would it do in different brands? The only crayons we ever buy is Crayola because other brands are just too waxy to us. ✌️❤️🤣 peace, love and happiness
I really cant wait to try this again with so many colors! I will also try epoxy soon and see if i can get similar results with my swirls! 😍🤩
could you use a mirror to reflect the light from the bottom to the above
@@jeffcook8501 sure can 😊😊😊
Hmmm what if you used waxed crayon shavings.. as the heat from the lamp melts the crayon anyway , you could get some interesting effects..
Nice. I will surely try this👌👍🏼
@@frogzone7250 I was thinking the same thing.
Wonderful experiment!! And how amazing did that turn out!?!
Thanks bud 😊😊😊

Thanks, yes, trying shavings soon 😊😊
Its amazing how gold tye yellow turns. So pretty.
You are a true inspiration.
Thanks so much 🙏
Sooooo Beautiful!! Love it so much! Thanks Daniel😍🥰
Thank you so much 😊😊
They look great, another thing to try 😊
Thanks 😊 And super cheap too 😊😊😊
@@daniel..cooper and so many colour combinations available too 👍

How did you get the crayon off the fabric? Boiling?

Hey Daniel! What fun with a box of crayons!
Holographic glitter in the black layer would be fun, too!
Thanks 😊
On the last one, there's an orange dinosaur at the bottom!

Love this!
Thank you 😊
I've used the metallic and pearl crayons in epoxy resin and liked the effect. I tried this when I was just starting out. ❤
Good to know! 😊😊😊
That was fun.. made me think of dripping birthday candles on a bottle... great effects ❤😊
Your BRILLIANT MIND at work again. HOW COOL 😮😮❤❤❤❤
Thanks Tammy 😊
Your videos are awesome, mixing everyday things into resin saves money and attains beautiful results.
Thank you! 😊😊
Very nice tutorial. Crayon shavings might be interesting. ❤🧡💛 thanks Daniel
Thanks Maddie, yes, that's definitely something to try! 🤩🤩

Maybe try the stirring with a low wattage soldering iron.

Some of that crackle paint would really finish this making it even more spectacular 💖 love this experiment!!
Thank you! Cheers! May try soon 😊😊
Very unusual. Yeah I've never seen this done before.
Thank you 😊 not as great as alcohol inks but definitely an option for uv users 😊
Hi Dan...yes they make neon crayons. That is so cool. Its so much fun watching you create. Ty! Til the next time take care. :)
Thanks Lee 😊 Gonna order some 😊😊😊
Ohhh WoW gonna be fun to do this… now to find all the crayons 🖍️ at the bottom of the cupboard ❤❤❤❤ thanks 🙏

I'll need to try this!

Can you add a sinker white to it?
I'm not sure it would work, it would need to be my own sinker for uv resin

Love that comment, 'it started me thinking!'.............❤
It's a dangerous thing sometimes 😂🤣
Cool 👏👏
Thanks Alison 😊
I have always wondered what would happen with lipstick so now I’m thinking it would be the same as the wax. Thank you
Oh, yes, that should work then 😊😊
Whst was the purpose of putting the resin piece in water?
To ensure a full cure 😊
It could be really cool to use a heated metal tool to swirl the wax in the resin.
🎉Very cool 😎 😊
Thanks 😊
how about melting wax first in shapes then cool down then resin over them so creates shapes like as if body lotion, take out the wax after cured resin
Yes, that could work 😊 May take a bit to get the wax out after though, maybe a release spray before pouring the epoxy on 😊
Beautiful swirl
Thank you! 😊
