How to Shop in a Mexican Supermarket | Lost in the Supermarket | Epicurious Хобби
How to shop in a Mexican supermarket? Put items in a cart and pay at a cash register, just like any other supermarket. Not that hard.
she's dropping stuff all over the floor, touching the entire bin of items, snacking, how about the tag line "how not to behave in a grocery store?"
W comment
Why tf is she shoving her nose in the yerba buena? It's just spearmint 😖
Because it smells like mint you dolt.
I think the point being the smell won't become more intense by shoving it up her nose.
I believe she is merely saying it’s a typical herb...but she treats it like a new thing...
Mari M depending where this Yerba buena is from it could be something different from spearmint. Minty yes, but another species.
this is not "how to shop at a mexian store'' this is ''how not to behave in a mexican store'' lol
Adilene Vazquez hahaha yes
Ruthlessnoodle don’t eat stuff before you buy it, and don’t touch everything,
@@caramelc0rn especially nowadays
For real 😂
*fish*
México it's from North America, not Central America. Not only gringos are north americans.
Exactly and they're not even from America in general considering how they always forgot that Natives came before them?
Watching her eating things before buying them put me on edge.
haha you're allowed to
Toni Sutton I think he was talking about the walking down isles and opening bottles and bags of stuff.
Copper T I was thinking the same thing.
how did this chick not get thrown out !??
I think, since she's doing a video for Epi, she's asked for permission. It's not allowed and not normal, nope. It makes the video awkward.
Why is she touching EVERYTHING?
Zaida Delflor Because she probably paid for it all beforehand. They most likely asked the store owner for permission before filming and probably paid in advance for anything she ate
Pretty sure the store management made her pay for everything.
And now with COVID she would be forbidden to enter the store again.
she is mr beast and bought the whole store beforehand
I think the store allowed this eating and opening of packages because she asked permission first, probably the manager thought it was good for the store, free advertisement and all, what he/she didn't know is that this lady was going to put her hands, elbows deep into the produce, or rubbed her face and nose into it either.. Lady this is a No-no! no matter which store you walk into. You should know better. I hope you bought all that stuff, it was the polite thing to do..
Blanca Tobon More importantly, did she wash the guava before biting into it? I hope so.
Why did she open the package of candies when stores sell individual candies? Just go to the front section of the store.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY A "MARIACHI" BAND??? Please, oh, please!!! At least you could google them first to see what they really look and sound like!!!
Don’t get your panties in a wad
Lol this makes Americans look dumb which I know many aren’t! That band is from Peru by the way!
One Musician is from Ecuador, one from Bolivia and Pedro is from Chile.
As an American, I totally agree with you. 😂 Except, this makes me think that everyone from California is stupid.
just remake this series with a new host for every type of market so they know what the fuck they are saying
It seems like she just walked into a store and was like hey look at this, hey look at that with absolutely no knowledge and made a lot of assumptions on what our culture likes/uses.
Jerardo Gomez I still don't get the complaints of her being ignorant. Outside of calling the music group a Mariachi Band, what else was she ignorant about?
@@corneliussnow8215 It would have been helpful to have had someone who knew Mexican dishes and pointed out what they make with each item. Like that big cactus leaf, would have been nice to know how they cook it instead of talking about how it looks like a surfboard. This doesn't tell me anything "How to shop" because it's not pointing out the various foods needed for at least popular dishes. This is just an exploratory video.
"How much i still have to learn about Central America and tex-mex cooking?"
Doesn't she knows that Mexico is not in Central America and tex-mex is not mexican food?
That's the US education system hard at work.
Thank you for pointing this out. I was already so annoyed at the general lack of any understanding that I didn't even hear this BLANTANTLY IGNORANT statement. Epicurious should maybe be more CURIOUS and at least GOOGLE some basic facts about their videos.
mariachi band???? lol
Ollin Rojas Native music lol
LOL It looked like an Andes music band.
Ollin Rojas I’m Mexican and all the super market I’ve been to I’ve never heard or seen a mariachi band in a store. I may be wrong but so far I’m not
Such a dumb obvious mistake.
White people...
Step one : grab a cart and buy the things you need. Literally no different than any other store...
"exotic variations of bingo" THATS A LOTERIA PLEASE ajkhdsf
This is NOT a Mexican supermarket. It's no wonder the video has many dislikes.
This is a USA supermarket that sells products from Latin America.
I do hope that she bought the plant that she put in her face. That was the worst for me (the bitten guava it's not gonna be bought if she left it there).
todos los productos que se ven son mexicanos , tanto las verduras como la comida, todo eso se vende en un supermercado mexicano
jorge miranda monge NO invententes! cuándo has visto pencas en un súper? NUNCA
Las pencas se venden en los tianguis.
Korrozion... O las cortas del maguey
Acá en Monterrey venden pencas en HEB y Soriana
The level of ignorance
Susan Delong ummm how? Just because someone doesn't fully understand another culture doesn't make hem dumb
@@roccop3760 ignorance is not an indicator of intelligence it is just signifying someone's lack of understanding or knowledge in a Certain subject. Like this woman in the video. I think the video would've been much more comprehensive had they put someone who fully understands the marketing and cultural standpoint of Mexican markets. She is more like a tourist than a guide.
Damian Olmedo well yeah if you got someone who understands the culture this video would probably be better but just because she doesn’t understand the culture doesn’t make her ignorant
@@roccop3760 technically yes this makes her ignorant of the culture. Being ignorant in it of itself is not a bad or a good thing. In society it has negative connotations of course when used informally, but saying someone is ignorant is not equating that person's level of intelligence to the lack of knowledge they have yet to acquire in a certain subject. Obviously she is learning more about the culture via the video which is how one overcomes ignorance and what she hopes to do for people watching the video.
Damian Olmedo yeah I view it as the exact opposite of ignorance considering she’s learning about the culture just like you said
can someone do a parody of mexicans shopping in an american supermarket lol
as a mexican myself, i'm very annoyed by this video
Aislin Palomares I’m annoyed and I’m not Mexican
oh please..you were annoyed already... it was done with a joyful i love Mexico spirit and fun,,,w o u l d you rather a trumpie commentary..i mean really get a grip
why ??
Because she has no idea what she's talking about and she's basically gawking at people. "here I am at an african american marketplace. oh look they have fresh okra. You know this is commonly eaten with giblets and pigs feet so delicious, and look over here they have hair care products for people with natural hair. omg I look so silly with this durag on." That's what she sounds like.
I'm not just annoyed, yet why is she acting like it new for her??
Does she know how to shop? Or Is this her first time?
mariachi? where
I did a semester abroad in Mexico and not even supermarkets in Mexico are this Mexican...the supermarkets there are just normal.
Jessicaisrealawesome but in the US we, Mexicans, need these type of supermarkets because it’s the only place we are going to get all the Mexican imported goods. In Mexico you can go to mom and pop stores and open air markets to get all these things. Supermarkets are usually more Americanized in mexico so you can get the things you won’t find locally or things imported from the US.
Jessicaisrealawesome .. hahahaha, is because in the U.S they put everything into one store, I guess is for the customers convenience and for the sales and the profits.. from produce to meats, from bakery to tortilleria to restaurant, etc... all in one.. kind of you Wal-Mart stores. I like the ones in Mexico better, but some people prefer to shop at one place only..
I live in Mexico and I'm so jealous. I wish our supermarkets had all those products. You can get those products but some like Maguey leafs (the one she called a surf board) are really hard to find unless you live where they grow them. Plus it would never be sold in supermarkets.
Get someone who knows what they're talking about, or at least have the host going through the super market with someone knowledgable.
The spoon is actually used for most things that are huge..... But in my house it's used more for stirring mole!
That is such bad manners and an insult to the market, she just opens the products like if she owned the store.
Schnauzer person12345 You do realize that she paid for it all and asked the store's owner for permission beforehand? Unless she is good at hiding her eating products in the store, they mostly did that
By they, I mean the people who comment about her nonchalant attitude toward sampling supermarket food.
Like a typical American. Let’s build a wall to keep them out of Mexico.
Could've gotten a Mexican host that knows what she's actually talking about and have manners.
chrissyxx So, just because we're taking about a Mexican Supermarket, only a Mexican can talk about it?
Cornelius Snow yes.
chrissyxx Why?
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Cornelius Snow It’s our culture first of all, so it should be us that sets the narrative and secondly she gets a lot wrong and is overall disrespectful in this video. A Mexican who grew up regularly shopping in supermercados would have better insight and respect towards our foods and spaces. Hope that explains it!
Am I the only on triggered about her just opening stuff and eating it 😤 like she completely stuffed her nose inside the the greens and then put them back... have some decency.... And I feel like she may be kind of "insulting" their culture... I mean... I'm Puerto Rican I feel kind of upset.... especially when she said "when we walk past so called Mexican cheese"
Monica Tharp, I thought the same thing, but then I thought it some more and I'm thinking she said it because not everything that is made in the U.S is 100% mexican, why?, because the U.S says no to a lot of ingredients. So, it's something alike, but not the original.. at least that's my theory.
Monica Tharp I'm triggered by you saying that you were triggered 🤣
Monica Tharp i feel the absolute same way 😤 it’s disrespectful to me cuz I’m Hispanic
I thought it was actually nice she said that, it felt like was giving credit to the autentic stuff instead of for example the processed "mexican shredded cheese" they sell in those major US supermarkets.
Monica Tharp I think she paid the store beforehand. Unless she was super good at hiding it, she probably paid and asked for permission first before doing anything.
Just a dumb question by a dumb german guy: Is it normal and fine with the supermarket staff, if you eat and open up everything in the store? I mean of course they bought it after the shoot, but are "normal" customers doing that as well? I don't want to complain, but it really distracted me watching this video.
BTW: Good video, but it would have been a little bit better, if the hostess would have know more about the products, she seems a little bit overwhelmed.
Many will offer samples. Yes you can, as long as you pay before you leave the store - you are not going to have an entire meal but if you would like to bite into an apple as you stand 20 minutes at the checkout line, go for it.
In my town (Ixtapa Mexico) this is not normal...if you do this here, persons from the Market will ask you to go to cashier to pay it.
You can do that in any market in the world, provided that you asked permission for making a video that involves testing the products in front of the camera. It is very rare seeing ordinary customers eating the products at the moment.
personally, my answer is so-so/more or less.
for example I live near the border and I have spent years on both sides(US/MX), there are few stores I feel safe enough to open say a bottle of coke/tea and drink it if I desire, all I have to do is pay for it, be it before hand or when im ready to leave.
noone will bug me because they (if someone say from security) gets to see me, they will know im saving the bottle and I will be charged for it, usually they will stop you if you attempt to drop the bottle.
now about this lady, she took TOO MANY liberties, I wont lie.
every true Mexican marketplace will have one or two places to taste products, like ham or cheese, even some beef or creams.
if you go about your day like this lady the guards will scold you no doubt, she gets to get away with it because she asked for permission.
so this is not "normal" but can be done at the same time, it depends on the people running the place and if they trust you.
noone is going to blame you for opening a can of soda or a bottle of tea if you really need it, as long as you pay for it.
Thanks for the addition, I recently had a bunch of friends argue that she is being culturally insensitive. Most of them Doctors in cultural studies.
Clueless Host:
so this food here is more like a meal?
Knowledgeable-person-about-said food:
No its like a snack.
Clueless host:
Yeahh Im going to say its more like a meal
😂Lmfao Why is this host asking questions if shes not going to listen ??
Ok the employees probly think shes a code inspector or store evaluator becuz Y the fkk dose she keep comfortablely opening and tasting everything lime that. Maybe me feel uncomfortable to watch.
veronica213LA I'm pretty sure they asked for permission before filming but I can see why you would think that
Vids like this eradicate my guilt for using ad block.
Do you have to full body hug the produce? Really? ...and repeatedly drop produce to the floor in multiple videos. someone get rid of her please.
It annoys me as well.
Fr
This is the "Do not touch challenge" Lets see if we can go through an entire supermarket without touching anything!
I’m the guy at 2:34 with the shopping cart in the background as I watch this video. Confused and slightly offended. 😂 Hahaha!
don't know how i ended up watching this, but i be hungry now, lol
I don't like how much she touches the food she isn't going to take with her. At least get some gloves if she's going to do it. And she needs to stop dropping produce!!
why do I need instructions to buy like a normal person like nobody does that or somthing
party jojo she is teaching you how to behave in a supermarket. I was really annoyed throughout the whole video
I don't get why people are bitching about her? Obviously she paid for the things she opened, she's done it in other videos. I'm also guessing she isn't Mexican so it's understandable for her to not know everything about the culture.
Why so much hate? Do people seriously not realize that she got permission to go through this supermarket? She obviously got permission to go in and film and try things from the store's owners, it's promotional like something you would see on Food Network... Think people!
Why can’t a actual Mexican that can say the names the right way, and knows what the Store is selling do a video

New title suggestion: How To Loose Your Mind at a Mexican Grocery Store
5:55 LMAO did she just say *exotic variations of bingo* I'M DONE
Rude host..
Huh? What makes her rude?
The Mean Arena People don’t behave that way in a Supermercados- she walks around with a lot of privilege touching and putting her face in things, no one does that, it’s rude. Secondly she gets a lot wrong in the video, it’s ignorant.
@Carlina Guzman - She's not some random person just touching random things. This is all pre-planned ahead of time with the Supermarket's and then the show is filmed. She would be kicked out if she were some random person touching and opening things. The Supermarket's know she's there and they know what is happening, plus all these things that are touched and/or opened are fully paid for.
Can you do a better job then......?
The Mean Arena except she is a typical entitled white woman touching everything that doesn’t belong to her.
Mariachi? That was some Peruvian musicians. LOL. Great video by the way
Me to gringo friends “Y’all wanna play an exotic variation of bingo? *Holds up the Loteria*
Anyone else feel like is is kinda disrespectful towards other cultures food? I just feel like she isn’t informed on what she is looking at or showing us.
Cheyenne Dreese i do becuz I’m Hispanic
Let her be, she's only exploring.
it is called LOST IN THE SUPERMARKET. she's exploring.
Momma Kat the title of the video is HOW TO SHOP IN A MEXICAN SUPERMARKET, I don’t see exploring anywhere in the title. She is extremely disrespectful towards others cultures.
Cheyenne Dreese The title is a bit misleading but, she is generally exploring. She doesn't need to go into full detail or explain something. Just show off some of the strange or unique stuff that a Mexican Supermarket sells. As somebody who's parents are from Central America, this stuff is perfectly normal to us but, to an outsider willing to explore, like her, it's strange.
For me, I never leave a Mexican grocery store and/or market without buying a bottle of Sangria Señorial.
I really enjoy this super market tour series! :D
Everything looks delicious, will visit. Thank you.
DO YOUR HOME WORK FIRST LADY.abaut the products
why she walking around looking/touching everything like a rare treasure 😂 y'all don't got anything at whole foods? Hahaha
Kudos! Me encantó este video. Saludos desde México!
i hate doing my grocery shopping but if we had a store like this here in my small town in wisconsin i would love to go there everyday!!
You did not just call that group a mariachi group...
i love everyone giving so much hate for her picking up and trying everything like she didnt have permission and like this isnt a regular show this channel does.... HOWEVER i do get the hate about her calling things the wrong things.. like the "mariachi" band lol... remember.. this is an american born person giving her perspective. she is giving you a tour of the latin american restaurant.
remember she has permission to give the tour!
What no chancla polishing section? My grandma is going to be mad.
I got it that they had permission to filmed a video there and eat / drink before buying then, but it still make me awkward 🤣 not in the bad way
I live in San Antonio, Texas I love shopping in our fiesta markets!! One of my favorite grocery stores besides H-E-B
@C Salinas That’s amazing 😻 Nice to meet you here
How are you today?
Her: just put it over you car
Me: but i dont have a car;-;
her: *canceled*

Ive been going to that fiesta since i was kid love that place!
Yerba buena=mint leaves
"It smells minty!"
Me: ¬.¬
Opening food in packaging and paying for it later is one thing but taking a bite outta produce? Cmon now
Why am I watching this, I’m Mexican?
This looks so good
Never knew that you can taste test food before buying in Mexican supermarket, will try that tomorrow.
I hope she paid for the items she ate and drank.
DIONNE FRANCIS-BROWN Of course. Either before or after filming, she most likely paid the owners for everything not packaged that she touched and ate
s h e put them in her purse..didn't ya see?? klipto
Love the Mexican supermarkets.
This comment section makes me sad. We can assume she payed for everything, she tried her best and wasn't disrespectful. Out of the videos in this series that I've seen so far, this has the rudest comment section. Frankly, I'm a bit embarrassed to be a Mexican right now.
Mythical Slytherin It’s impact not intention. I’m proud to be Mexican, always. I’m happy people are calling her and the program she works for out so they know it’s not okay to make ignorant comments and behave that way in any grocery store, no matter the geographical spotlight. Perhaps she didn’t make such ignorant comments in other videos? I don’t know, I won’t be watching them. Even if she paid for everything and did her best, it’s not okay to behave that way and it’s not wrong to be honest about it. It would be wrong to attack anything other than the content.
We have stores like that here in the Central Valley area of California. We have La Perla Tapatia and Rancho San Miguel. Both have excellent food.
That's how I be looking like grocery shopping baked
I've expected her to at least respect the store
Girl that guava has freaking GREEN. some people prefer it that way but since it's your first time having one. Wrong choice!
As for the fish. Girl you can't just eat it that way, remember it has the really small little fish bones that you could CHOKE on.
My Family and I use our hands to eat it, never a form.
You really needed someone guiding you.
I’m missing lost in the supermarket! I hope there are more soon!!
Nooo I can't watch this😭whyyyy is she eating the produce.....I just cant💀💀💀
mannn loteria is no joke how i made my money from ages 6-15 along with helping abuelo clean the garage
Being bloody Foodie from India with spice business family background I can say this is nice range to any creative chef go berserk crazy with excitement after seeing those ingredients MAMA MIA I WISH I COULD B THERE TO GET EXPERIMENT WITH THOSE INGREDIENTS...LOVE IT MADLY
"Always wash your produce" As she walks around stuffing produce in her mouth.
Thank you for explaining my culture:)
Please can you do more of these???
The thing I don’t understand is how you make a video called “how to shop in a Mexican market” when the host doesn’t even know what half this stuff is
i love this channel
Cringe
"exotic variations of bingo" talking about the lotería hahahah
Couldn't finish watching this. Sorry. Lol.
More knowledgeable host please. Unsubscribed...
caramimi yep, thats not even a mariachi band, but sure, who would know lets just add it to the vídeo....
Seriously. How to shop at a Mexican supermarket- Walk around like an entitled American, eating & drinking what you wish, guess what 'the strange things' are for, without educating or enlightening yourself or others. I thought this was gonna be a Mexican person giving insight into the culture & importance of these supermarkets. Better title would be "Girl explores Supermarket".
Pretty sure it was set up people. Seriously you think someone would do that? Come on! She had a whole film crew with her obviously she was allowed to do these things. Lol wow I'm amazed how many of you said the same thing. It's pretty damn clear.
I like this video, she is testing all flavors she can found on the store. I´m Latin by the way and I dont feel offended.
Actually supermarkets in México are just like normal wal-marts, and even tho that fiesta mart looks better than most i´ve been to, it still looks ugly for what a normal mexican supermarket is.
I really wish they'd continue this series.

clicked on the video randomly, notice it’s my childhood fiesta, haven’t been there in years because now theres El Rancho
this is top tier surrealist comedy
who does this girl think she is, if you wouldn't do this in Whole foods or Albertsons why does she think it's okay to do that in a Mexican grocery store.
Sparkle Galor she does this in all her supermarket videos. It's for epicurious lol
this makes me think why other countries make fun of the u.s with brains like yours
Sparkle galor your dumb as fuck
Matthew Medina IKR?! This is an Epicurious video regarding a Mexican market. They are also done on Korean markets and Chinese markets and Whole Foods. It's not a Prejudice thing and she didn't single out Fiesta Mart just to go through there and pick up things and try chicharon! LMFAO
Sparkle Galor yeah who does she think she is working for Epicurious and going around to show us what other ethnic supermarkets look like and what they sell!? LMFAO you twit!
Love this lady 😀
How to not behave at ANY grocery store
I hecking love fiesta
