This is an incredibly useful video. It adds to the information you've already helped me with when we chatted a few months ago. Plus your website. Such incredibly helpful data you provide with this particular problem for the bar crossing novices. Thank you for putting this together! And a great haul, to boot!
Do you by chance know why the wind picks up in the afternoon around here? Fishing Puget sound beaches in late fall and the winter for cutthroat i noticed the wind would consistently pick up around 3-5pm, and last till about sunset
It’s a pretty constant effect in many areas and I believe it just has to do with temperature differentials between morning and afternoon and how air responds to that 🤷♂️
Thanks for doing this video! I had a ton of questions about this, looking to read up before giving the ocean a go next year. Are there any rules of thumb for calculating additional wave height and bar conditions?
Some basic rules are: 1. Don’t cross the bar within 2 hours of max ebb 2. Only go when wave duration / wave height equals 2 or less 3. Get off the water before wind kicks up and don’t go when unstable weather patterns are arriving while you are far away from shelter
What model boat are you in? I have a Duckworth 20 advantage XT so 22.8’ overall but don’t think I’d take it out there… went last weekend in a buddies 27’ NR offshore and we got beat up. Yours looks close in size to mine so just wondering

@PNWBestLife I think so too. There's cooler air up north and the sound does weird things
