  • In this video, we attached a Go Pro to one of our downrigger balls and sent it down to the depths for an evening of fishing! We were thrilled to see the action below the surface and we hope you enjoy it as well!

    I was on a charter once years ago and proceeded to apply some sun tan lotion. The captain screamed at me and said don't ever put that stuff on out here it gets on everything and will kill the bite.
    Now I take that into consideration whenever I am fishing. Great vid.

    In the late '80s/early '90s there was a show on TV called 'Charlie White's Fishing Machine' which was filmed off the coast of B.C. Charlie had developed a camera that he would lower down to view the action of the salmon as they came into the lure/bait on a TV monitor at the back of his boat. It was fascinating to see what was really going on down there. It was a great show! 'Must see TV' for us salmon fishermen! lol

    Great video. "S" turns were a great indicator for what the fish wanted. Prime trolling speed used to be 2.8 - 3.1 mph. During the "S" turn if an inside rod tripped, the fish wanted a slower presentation; when an outside rod tripped they were looking for a quicker presentation. Catch a laker, you're moving too slow. Catch a steely, you're moving along okay for kings....

    Replace those treble hooks on your spoons and tail hooks on stick baits with a single hook. You might miss a hit every now and then, but hook ups are more productive. Cold water salmon and lake trout can work two hooks on a treble against the third to spit the hook. Or that’s what we observed back in the 80’s and 90’s when we started fishing Lake Superior.

    A trick that l employ after a rigger is in and set,take a release,clip it to that cable free sliding,and let out about 20’ of line and lure and pinch it on.An ounce of weight might need to be attached to the clip to get the release past belly in the cable.Now have the most bored person on the boat pull the clip up and let it settle back down.Over and over .This works good!

    Most baits are trying to mimic injured fish. That’s why the pattern of pulling straight doesn’t produce as much as turning. Fish aren’t just mindless predators, they actually help cull the weak and injured and avoid the healthy fish that can reproduce. It’s actually fascinating when you really think about it.

    If you can get fresh salmon eggs you can pop them and rub the juice on the lure. It turns white and sticks to spoon. Just one egg makes huge difference in bite or pass. Trick I learned spinner fishing steelhead. S turns my dad taught me 50 years ago. Game changer.

    Interestingly, turning when fishing works remarkably well for Trout also. Even running a troll in a lake with electric motor it works. And it works by running the boat/kayak Around fishing spots while the leader line passes through the area that the boat/kayak avoided. Fish see the hull and hide. Going Around the fish in spots while the length of the line makes it troll through the area doesn't spook the fish, resulting in a bite.

      I haven't experimented with other soaps! Lemon joy is a trick that came from the west coast years ago and there rumor has it salmon prefer that scent👍 It has always worked well for me so I haven't changed. I would lose sleep at night thinking about washing all my baits with a soap scent the fish didn't like😅 I let them sit in a bucket of soapy water or ill wash them like I'm doing dishes! No real formula for it.

      I’m not sure on that one😅

    • @fishontv6834
      @fishontv6834 Год назад

      You are right. If a fish hits your lure, it will kept getting hit over and over. Even when using meat on meat rigs, never replace that meat unless it doesn't swim right anymore. If you need to, rinse the meat rig in the lake water when done. I know @AdventureChasing recommends lemon soap - and I did try it at one time, but it didn't result in more hits. The thing about fishing is that you have to find out what works for YOU and YOUR boat. What works for one guy won't always work for another. Many, many factors involved.

Me I use a Apex 1" pink yellow gold but I am in the salt water off Vancouver Island BC. Oh yeah that little Apex is unreal. But Coho are very aggressive as you know. Just so ya know Sockeye are very fickle but once ya get them going hang on. Anyways awesome channel I'll subscribe. As I was subscribing the prop wash in the opening was worth a1000 words to me. Coho fishing is the most fun. Do you guys get tide lines with weeds and logs if so get back to me.

    Great video. A lot of charter captains DO NOT clean lures or add scent. In fact, they leave the 'fish juice' on the lure as the enzymes may help make the lure more attractive. Some guys even take new lures, flies, etc. and place them in a fish's mouth to 'break them in' and add those enzymes. When I run Brad's cut plugs I do add alewife scent to the pad for those fall kings. Tight lines! What model GoPro do you use? How do you attache it to the ball? Thanks
