Your video is exactly what I needed to prepare myself and my son to get over the bar and fish for rock bass and salmon safely. I have since studied the web pages you provided and am confident I can get over the bar in the right conditions with no issues. You cleared up any confusion as to the data that I have seen and cannot tell you how grateful I am for this video. I have been studying bar crossings since this spring and have never had so much information in one place as you provided. Thank you for the video and your time. I am going out tomorrow with my son and his friend and hope to report a successful day fishing. We have never been out in the open water but looking forward to it. Thank you.
Thanks 🙏 Yeah, I’ve been trying to get that footage in a way that’s helpful. I typically go out when the bar is pretty flat, but would love to show a good example of if
I run a 16 foot arima and have always wanted to try Westport one of these days. Honestly might just follow one of the charters out and just mark the path on my GPS
Jack, I would not recommend following the charters out of Westport. They are quite keen on this and they will run in circles until you give up. A better plan is to pay for a trip, go over the bar with them and get your bearings a little bit. You can also study the marine charts and look for rock piles / structure. I
You bet man! I'm not a big risk taker, so I wanted to make sure it was all dialed-in. I will be watching my own video again soon to prepare for that March opener :)
It’s all about your skill with the boat and navigating marine weather / forecasts. Please visit my PNWBestLife.com/marine-weather-safety/ guide for some ideas. It can be done, but I obviously don’t know enough to judge whether anyone can do it via the comment section here
Yeah man, there’s definitely going to be a summer salmon season. I don’t usually go to Westport for Salmon but I believe it opens late June or July 1 at least. Check the regs
What could u catch out of Westport by boat end of June we are debating seiku or Westport for the 4th of July normally do Garibaldi but might change it up for fun thx
So…end of June can be pretty epic! Usually there’s one last halibut opener, and ocean chinook open in both places. Couples with the fact that lings and rockfish are still in play, you can have an epic time!
Mostly 7’6-8’6. But if I had a preference I would go all in on the 7’6 one piece twitching rod from Okuma. Makes a great boat jigging rod. I’ve even landed a 35 # halibut on it
This greatly depends. There are days when it’s flat calm and others that are just nasty. I would use the same approach in this video to have a safe trip

Jason, thanks so much for sharing this! Now I need to hear a report back on a successful and safe trip!
Great information. Would love to see a video of you driving over the bar. Thanks.

Hell yeah dude! I love Westport. I swear I seen your boat when I was fishing on the jetty last year!
Oh that’s awesome! That would be funny if you saw me! We’ve only got like 3 weeks to wait before it’s go time on the Lings again!

Appreciate the information. I plan to take my 22ft not out of Westport next season and was really curious how to get out safely.

How were you guy's able to fish with the state closing the fishery down do to the COVID-19 No WDFW?
Great video nice fish too
Fishery was open when we went. It closed a few days later.
Great video and advise. You say any rocky area will hold fish, I'm trying to pinpoint how far out I'll have to travel. Did you head north?
There are a few rock piles about 5-8 miles north, yes
@@PNWBestLife thank you so much for the info!!! Tight lines
How do you find these fish and how far were you guys out? we went out this weekend to get comfortable with our boat before we went to far.
Look at the charts and look for rock piles and structure! We were only about 5-7 miles from the mouth
I’m planning to hit Neah bay soon, do you think 18.5 foot with 2 foot bracket is good for Neah bay for bottom fish ?

What’s the outlook this season 2021?
I want to go fishing on Sept 2nd.
Hopefully it will open by that time.
Please let me know. Thanks.

What size kinda boat are u in we have 18ft raider pro sport
20 ft Alumaweld stryker with a jet pump.
What could u catch out of Westport by boat end of June we are debating seiku or Westport for the 4th of July normally do Garibaldi but might change it up for fun thx

I plan to go in June and September if you charter. Thanks.
I do not charter, but there are some excellent options out of Westport. The slammer is a can’t miss option
Super helpful, thanks
Glad it was helpful!
What size rods and reels are you using? Ratings and action?

Is it safe to kayak fish near the jetty?
This greatly depends. There are days when it’s flat calm and others that are just nasty. I would use the same approach in this video to have a safe trip
You need a WhoDat Tower on that boat
Yes! That would be awesome.
