    These pool maintenance videos have been so helpful!!
    I bought a new/used home last October (the pool was already closed, as per the closing agreement), but it’s up to me to get it open this spring!
    I’ve made a playlist with all of your pool maintenance videos l! 😅
    I think you are also in Ontario (looking at your other videos), I’m between Toronto and Barrie, so this has been so helpful compared to other videos where people live further south in more temperate and warmer environments where they aren’t dealing with closing and openings that are more complex.
    Thanks so much!!

    I like the idea of vacuuming the debris into the skimmer basket but don’t have a cover like you show. What’s best way to vacuum debris without that? On waste?

    • @jonahvlogsdiy4143
      @jonahvlogsdiy4143  8 месяцев назад

      If you can cut out a circular plywood to sit on the skimmer & drill a hole to fit the vacuum, it should work.

    Thank you for all your detailed video’s. Just bought a house with a pool and had no idea how to run it. With your help I got a clean pool. Just wondering how to get my ph up. Mine seems to be low and not sure how to fix that. I’m sure you have a video on it but I can find it. Any help would be very much appreciated.

      PH is always a little tricky for me also.I end up buying PH+ or PH- to get it as closes possible. Adding city water when the sun evaporates helps the pool since the water is at perfect PH. Don't try baking soda. I tried that & it didn't work for me.

    Ive seen videos where they dont add that cover on the bottom of the skimmer? What happens if i dont add that

    • @jonahvlogsdiy4143
      @jonahvlogsdiy4143  4 года назад +1

      You really don't need a sock for your skimmer but I highly recommend it. It saves you water from too much backwashing and it picks up over 95% of debris before going into your sand filter.

      JONAH VLOGS & DIY i understood the sock but the control plate? What if i dont use that and just connect the hose at the bottom of skimmer

    • @jonahvlogsdiy4143
      @jonahvlogsdiy4143  4 года назад

      @@josearaiza903 I've never tried that before but I suppose it would work. You may need an extra person to hold the hose so it doesn't jump around. An another idea is to make your own control plate DIY with 3/4"plywood cut to the diameter of your skimmer basket and a hole for the hose. Good luck which ever way you want to go. let us know how it works out.

    • @descendantoffools9767
      @descendantoffools9767 4 года назад

      Most people just put one end of the hose into the skimmer pipe. But the vac plate is the best way, otherwise all the material you vacuum ends up in your pump basket which you will probably have to empty several times if you have a lot of debris.

  • @karenmartin9992
    @karenmartin9992 Год назад +1

    Actually I bypass the skimmer basket and insert the vacuum hose right into the suction line - this is the way my Dad always did it. We have an on-ground type pool with a sand filter. It seems to work okay like this. We just don't seem to get enough suction power to use a cover plate on the skimmer basket for some reason.

    • @jonahvlogsdiy4143
      @jonahvlogsdiy4143  Год назад

      Your pump might be under powered. You can do it that way also but that means all that debris go directly to your sand filter & clogs it up faster. Therefore you have to backwash it too often since the the pressure goes up & the suction power also go down.

    I never knew about the sock. I wondered how I could trap the fine dirt. Much better option than sending the dirt to the sand filter (my only option bc I dont have a waste setting). Thanks for the tips!

    Can I ask what you put the filter on when vacuuming? Then I know you have to back wash and rinse I just don’t know what setting to actually vacuum on

    • @jonahvlogsdiy4143
      @jonahvlogsdiy4143  3 года назад

      The sock filters are just to catch the debris so I don't have to clean out the pump basket all the time & less stress on the sand filter. I only have one setting to vacuum & that's the Filter Mode.

    • @chuckaaron2014
      @chuckaaron2014 3 года назад

      I always vacuum on waste!! Shoot that mess into the yard. A sock is ok, but even a sock won't catch dirt, like it's a smokey type of mess on floor bottom, if not your putting it right back into your pool through the return. Then you will see it the next .morning in the middle of pool again..... frustrating.
      On above ground pools, that's your best bet. Just a pool guys opinion. Yes, keep water hose in pool, vacuum slow and then turn off. Then backwash, then rinse, then back to filter. Nice video tho.
      Vacuuming on waste, shooting it out the pool completely will keep the small dirt n dust like particles from getting right back in. Make sure to keep eye on water level and never go below 1/2 skimmer level on water. Keep water going while vacuuming, it may cost a bit more on water bill, but cleaning and not vacuuming again next day it's worth it. It doesn't take that much water, especially above ground. Same for in ground, vacuum on waste!!! If your doing a vacuum just for leaves, you can filter vacuum, but I don't recommend it. That's your call. More work on pump, you saw the basket and sock, it was bad. The pump is pulling hard. Keep eye on pressure gauge.
      To each his own....
      Enjoy y'alls summer and keep your daughter happy!!😁

    Hi Jonah, just bought a home with a 30,000 gallon pool and the owner didn't maintain it very well. The bottom is all full of gunk and a thick layer of leaves and debris. Just wanted to ask--in this video, cleaning was done in circulate mode for routine maintenance? For heavy jobs like the one I have ahead of me, I should probably be vacuuming to waste instead turning the pump on and off between emptying the skimmer basket with a fresh water hose running in to help maintain the water levels? Thanks!

    • @jonahvlogsdiy4143
      @jonahvlogsdiy4143  5 лет назад +1

      Great question. Yes sounds like a good idea. Use the waste but keep the skimmer basket on with out the sock to catch any large debris that maybe at the bottom of the pool. Keep the water hose running into your pool at the same time. When most of the large debris is gone, switch back to regular maintain mode. Hopes this helps . Good luck.

    Solid points here, Jonah. I have used skimmer socks for years. Any opinion on how often to backwash after vacuuming? I hose out the filter grids, regardless, once a month in season. 15x32 kidney-shaped in-ground.

      If there is a lot of debris or bugs on the bottom floor I'll back wash then, but very second vacuum other wise. Thank so much for the visit Sal.

    I use skimmer socks and buy in bulk from on line...some get so nasty I just throw them away, otherwise just hose off first then wash by hand or on gentle cycle in my washing machine with no soap just a little bleach

    Have question sir. Do you keep your setting on FILTER while you vacuum or BACKWASH? If your answer is Filter than why, is it because you are using Skimmer Sock? Just curious becz i like your idea using skimmer sock but i was just confused about your setting that you are using Filter or backwash while vacuuming. BTW i have DE filter. Does that have anything to do with??

    • @jonahvlogsdiy4143
      @jonahvlogsdiy4143  4 года назад +1

      Yes I keep the setting on Filter when I vacuum and back wash. Yes the skimmer sock picks up all the bugs and dirt before to goes into your sand filter or DE Filter. This helps the sand filter/ De filter and gives it longer life.

      Do you mean how to use the pump?

    • @chuckaaron2014
      @chuckaaron2014 3 года назад

      After you get air out the vac hose and I'd ck the vac itself. Pull it up towards you n stick hand in water n make sure you have good suction. Then cut off pump. Move pump to WASTE!!! VACUUM ON WASTE, ADD WATER WITH WATER HOSE, KEEP LEVEL AT MID SKIMMER.
      AFTER VACUUMING, CUT OFF, THEN BACKWASH, TURN OFF, THEN MOVE TO RINSE, CUT OFF PUMP AND MOVE TO FILTER, DONE.
      CUT OFF PUMP BEFORE MOVING TO EACH SETTING. NEVER MOVE FILTER TO BACKWASH OR FILTER OR RINSE WITH PUMP ON. Socks are ok, but they won't catch the small smokey looking stuff in pool floor. It will shoot it right back into the pool through the return.
      Nice video
      Enjoy the 4th of July holiday weekend n be safe!!!

    I prefer the other method to take the basket out, plug hose directly into hole, vacuum to waste if it’s bad, or vacuum to filter and backwash. Also, looks like you have a copper issue, I’m seeing some copper staining in your basket. Get a c u later bag….
